It's news like this that makes us happy we live in a FREE country.
According to new reports, China will censor the Internet used by the foreign media during the Olympics in Beijing.
This completely reverses the pledge the government had made to offer complete media freedom during the games.
Sun Weide, a spokesman for the organizing committee, said "During the Olympic Games we will provide sufficient access to the Internet for reporters."
He also added that journalists would not be able to access websites or any information connected to the Falungong spiritual movement, which is banned in China.
Weide added that some other sites would also be unavailable to journalists, but did not specify which ones.
Oh, and did we mention that the Chinese people have to deal with this every day? The same thing in Cuba.
Their government blocks out certain sites and restricts access to their people.
Craziness!
If you think China is bad, then do not vote for Obama. Because this is the type of goverment we will end up with. We may be "free" now, but it won't be that way for long. Some changes are not always for the better.

The Olympics have been a long running thing and they are honoured to be hosting it so of course they want everything to be PERFECT.
China as a government can do whatever it chooses. Their residents don't have to stay. They are welcome to relocate to other countries. But…they made a commitment to the world media that there would be unrestricted access. They are not recinding agreements yet reaping the profits from it. The Olympic Committie should slap them with breach of contract and sue their ass for a large portion of the profits in Geneva. That will show countries that they can't fuck with the rest of the world.

Well in Canada some websites don't work. Any kind of movie or show clips on MTV.com never ever work and say their blocked from being played in our country
God, did anyone ever really believe China was gonna do what they promised to? A communist country with people being thrown into jail and even killed for thinking the system is not working? Has everyone forgotten about Tiananmen? A model example of what how the country works. The leaders get to be little dictators and have the best of everything, the people is suffering and if they dare say it out loud, they're run over by tanks, sounds like a noce place to live in doesn't it?

I don't think that the U.S. government is in any way stable or not corrupt but it is bette rthan the Chinese government… By a long shot…. SO anyone who argues with that is pertty stupid. I feel fortunate to live in this country when i compare it to countries like China. HOwever compared to some other countries the U.S. has a lot of work to do and i agree that we are not free. We are stuck in a system taht we have limited control over but by far a lot more than China….

Re: jaldj – NOt meaning to be RUDE, but jaldj, I'm not sure you know that much about the Chinese government OR the US government. So, everyone tries to censor journalists, but maybe look at how the US are treating the journalists in Iraq before you talk too fast. Sure they're not thrown into jail, but there is proof that some who refuse to be embedded with soldiers have 'inexplicably' been killed despite not being on any kind of military target (see Philip Knightley's book 'The First Casualty' for a hint of what has been happening)
ANYWAY, we are talking about China and not the US. China would do the same, but everyone would know about it. Far less covert and, in my view, far less dangerous.
Re: annie – Hong Kong is a part of China and has been for over 10 years. They just still retain they're own currency and are not considered mainland China.

They cage up moon bears for their whole lives to suck bile out of their stomach, they skin animals that are still alive for their fur, they have dog & cat farms that all the animals live in horrendous conditions & have an even worse death so suck that moron. I know animals all over the world are treated badly & as humans we should be totally ashamed of ourselves. It sickens me the way pigs, cows, chickens & anything is treated for human consumption.
