Paparazzi To Be Pooped

mx0134422.jpg

Could there finally be some change made to the way the paparazzi operate?

It looks that way, at least in some parts of California.

Some officials in Los Angeles are deciding to take tougher action and make stricter regulations.

This Thursday, officials from West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu, and even Calabasas are gathering for the first time to discuss how they will try to control the paparazzi.

The group's goal is for each city to create it own ordinances against all aggressive paparazzi. There will also be some uniform laws placed in locations like where celebrities live, work, and hangout.

Guess it might be safe to finally drive down Robertson Blvd during the day!

Dennis Zine, a Los Angeles City Councilman, says "This is a response to their lack of responsible behavior."

Zine is also the one who earlier this year proposed a "personal safety zone" around celebs to protect them from the paps. Especially with paparazzi trespassing onto private property, such as with Halle Berry and Brangelina.

Zine adds in comparison to the desired paparazzi regulations, "You can smoke, but you can't smoke in certain areas. You can go 55 miles-per-hour, but you can't do it in a school zone. So we're not saying you can't take the picture."

Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, says "As it stands today, the sheriff's department is confident and comfortable that the laws that exist provide enough to ensure the safety and security of residents."

This is all good, but….

We must also balance this with protecting the photogs' first amendment rights!

Go back to History 101, you ignorant tool. The First Amendment says NOTHING about the right to invade personal space. Thrusting a camera in someone's face, crowding someone's vehicle or following celebs on the road at 60 mph is not a right protected by the Constitution. I don't consider aparazzi photos of Lindsay Lohan buying tampons "press" to begin with so you can stuff your interpretation of the 1st Amendment up your fat ass. The only reason you care anyway is because it might mean fewer photos for you to draw cum stains on.

Re: snora – Considering that the public at large is endangered by the paps' insane methods, I don't think this law is frivolous. Try driving safely down PCH when Britney is being pursued by 30 paps, going 80 and weaving in and out of traffic. That's not to say the LA City Council isn't a bunch of morons - they are Grade A assholes - so make sure you vote next time to kick some of them out of office (starting with our shitty Mayor).

they should just hire their own group of paps to follow the real paps everywhere and give em a piece of what they dish

  5. 105

OMG, the First Amendment does NOT guarantee people the right to interfere with the walking, driving…whatever….a person is doing just so another person can snap their photograph.

Lindsay's skin looks better here than her mom's trashy oragne hue. Surpirsingly, for once I think more starlets should mimick Lindsay's good example. (did hell just freeze over?) Wear sunscrean and stave off wrinkles!!!

  9. 109

Trespassing is trespassing regardless of who is doing it. Other than that, the celebs are fair game.

Photogs first amendment rights? Dumb ass, the first amendment grants Americans the right to PUBLISH what they want without fear of repercussion from the government. It was mostly meant to protect people who want to voice their opinions against the government. TAKING photos of celebrities is not covered. Neither is disturbing the peace or causing accidents. You are not the most educated person on the block are you?

    114

I don't *exactly* know what you mean about First Amendment rights… Yes, we all have a right to free speech and free expression. However, I'm not sure how aggravating someone, following him/her, and continuously taking his/her picture is really free speech. That being said, celeb gossip is my guilt pleasure :)

  15. Amand says – reply to this

    115

Uhm, Perez, maybe you should read the first ammendment again. The First Ammendment does not allow the Paparazzi to invade sometimes personal space, trail them in high speeds and make it miserable for celebrities to even pick up their kids from school. You REALLY need a lesson in government.

  16. Eric says – reply to this

    116

I have a lovely idea for famous people who wish to avoid the paparazzi: put them out of business! Take pictures of yourselves inside exclusive places; pictures that the paparazzi cannot get, which will be far more sought after than a stupid fucking picture of somebody walking out the door of a club. I hope this happens someday because the paparazzi are fucking ridiculous, going onto people's private property and shit like that is just going too fuckin far.

PEREZ! i don't think you should make fun of lindsay's lack of tan. it's great that she's going natural and not slowly killing herself with skin cancer. she should embrace her whiteness & her newly lesbian side =]

    118

Give me a break Perez, you are only worried about any amendment rights of those slim ball paps because it will affect how many pictures you can put on your site. Those beasts out there are disgusting and are severly dangerous to every celebrity they hoard around and anyone with a pea sized brain can see it! Stoopid Sheriffs dept. needs to get their fat asses together and make sure tougher laws are upheld. They think they are above enforcing those laws but they arent. Those laws are to keep people safe, whether they are celebutards or random people being stalked by crazy douches!

  27. 127

I've noticed so many people claiming that certain stars love the paps… you must realize that many PR firms and such tell celebrities to try to play nice with the photogs because its not the pix of them smiling and having a good time that bring in the big bucks, but the pix of them throwing tantrums, hitting things with umbrellas, or stumbling out of clubs that make bank.

  31. 131

FUCK THE SKULL OF THE PAPS!
    .

Just adopt German legislature! Photographers are only allowed to take photos of celbrities during "official" appearance situations and events, and when ethe celeb is "in private", i.e. in circumstances where a person may not wish or even EXPECT that someone is taking a photo, especially on his own property, NO images are allowed to be published! Or else you, i.e. the paper/magazine printing them, get a really HUGE(!) fine!
The Princess of Monaco was one of the first celebrities, I guess, who manged to win several corresponding lawsuits in German courts and the German / French magazines printing "private photos" of here and her family, without her being on "official mission" had to PAY!

In Germany, you MAY take private photos of celebrities, however, ONLY if it s got something to do with what they stand for! For example, some famous ecological celeb is allowed to be photographed without the magazine/photographer being FINED if he or she does something really "
If there s no "logical connection", it s not allowed to enter the "intimate private living zone" of celebs here fpr photographers!

who cares about their first amendment rights. i say if you abuse it you lose it. people should be able to buy a box of ceereal without it landing in a tabloid. it's ridiculous.

  56. Who C says – reply to this

    156

First, I think that free speech, it should be completely available, in the truest sense of the term, to everybody. No matter how batshit insane it is.
Though, on the other hand I think, everybody has the right to privacy. Though, I think before we make martyrs out of celebrities. Think about your own privacy. It does not exist. We have given up privacy to convenience. Every major corporation knows your buying habits. They know what type of person you are mainly on your searching history. Your future employers will background check your myspace, facebook, blogs, credit scores… It's all out there. Everybody fits into a social type. Honestly I used to work on systems like this, they grade people into different social levels mainly on search and viewing histories. It wasn't for government, it was for completely commercial purposes.
I guess before you defend a person who lives and needs for the attention. Fight for your own. Seriously, It's only growing bigger.

They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.

    158

"We must also balance this with protecting the photogs' first amendment rights!"

Please, they aren't photographers they're harrassers

  59. meme- says – reply to this

    159

    Amendment I
    -
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
    -
so your saying freedom of the press should allow for the utter harrassment of individuals????

  60. meme- says – reply to this

    160

    then, there's always:
    -
    Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
    -
So, if we are into s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g the amendments as Perez is doing for the press, then "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects" clearly covers the individual in a right to privacy.
    -
    -
I feel individuals should be affored at least the same rights as the nefarious paps — one picture is sufficient — but the way they attempt to rile the celebs in order to get a wild shot makes them bottom-feeders.

  61. Sad says – reply to this

    161

I feel sorry for all these young guttersnipes. They believe because the paparazzi snappes their photos that makes them "somebody" when all the paps are doing is expoliting their pathetic lives.

  62. JenH1 says – reply to this

    162

I am all for freedom of the press, but not how far the paparazzi go to intrude on the private lives of celebrities. Since I read your blog everyday, I obviously love some good celebrity gossip and photos, but… there are limits to freedom of the press. Everyone has the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, " but that right does not allow someone to infringe on someone else's right to happiness or safety.

  63. jess says – reply to this

if you took a government class in high school then you would know there are limits to the first amendment. its not a free for all. your rights end where another person's begins.

How is sneeking onto someone's property and taking pictures of them when the swim or sit around in the back yard covered by the first amendmant? Perez you have proven once more that you are nothing but a fucking moron with a web site. Just because you suck dick and blog does not mean you are smart enough to talk about the first amendment and what it means.

  65. Will says – reply to this

    165

The First Amendment is about Freedom of Speech. Not stalking people or taking their photographs. Do you understand that? Of course not. You are a moron. They need to pass these laws and ban anyone from taking anyones picture unless they have permission or are in a recognized area where someone can presume their picture will be taken. But to stalk people at their homes, in their cars or in stores, restaurants, etc., is unacceptable. As soon as they pass these laws they need to slap you upside the head with my ten inches of limp dick. Douche.

  66. 166

WHEN WE VISITED CALIFORNIA, WE SAW ABSOLUTLY NO SIGNS OF PAPPARAZZI ANYWHERE SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT. I THINK THE CELEBRIYIES THEMSELVES CALL THE PAPPS AND THATS WHY THEY KNOW WHERE THEY WILL BE.

  67. Maybe says – reply to this

    167

Perhaps the city could consider leasing the sidewalk space to the businesses that front it. It would then be considered private property and the business could decide whether to let paps loiter there or they would be within their rights to shoo them off the property. Since they're not suppose to disrupt traffic by standing in the road (yeah right), it would certainly limit the vantage points for photos if they had to keep moving.

Fact is, celebs love the paps and they do call the paps with tips, but celebs want to control it.

    It doesn't work that way.

If celebs want to avoid paps, then move out of L.A., or at least don't go where you know paps are - it is hilarious when they go to the Ivy, etc. and complain about paps.

Celebs can't have it both ways. Auctioning off baby pics for millions, but mad when others seek their pic.

Celebs can go into another biz if they can't take it. Every job has a bad side.

    175

    SCREW THE PAPARAZZI.
    .
I think they make the world more unsafe. This kind of thing was unheard of 20 years ago. Yes, paps have always taken photos of celebs, but they used to do it either at red carpet events, or verrrry verrrry discreetly (think of the pix of Jackie-O).
    .
I think at this point they should not be allowed to follow celebs around in groups, period.
    .
They are putting the general public at risk.
    .
Yes, I enjoy seeing the pix, but I'd be willing to give up ever seeing a paparazzi photo again, if it meant getting the world back to normal.
    .
And as someone else said, the paps really have taken advantage of their position, and have allowed it to get way out of hand. Most of them are young men who don't have a brain in their heads and are selfish bastards. So I say, let them find a new profession. Paparazzi should be OUTLAWED IN GROUPS. Only if you are blending in with the general public and you happen to catch a photo; that is the only way it should be allowed, and maybe not even then.

"We must also balance this with protecting the photogs' first amendment rights!" Nope. I'm sorry but I gotta disagree here. That's one thing that's wrong with this country. Criminals violate the rights of innocent people every friggin day. I think it's only fair that when someone breaks the law and violates the rights and freedoms of others they they lose some of their own rights and freedoms. Why are the laws always protecting the lawless more than the good people that follow the rules? That's what I'd like to know.

Wow, perez, you are dumber than Aubrey! What does 1st amendment have to do with this? I'm sorry, but if I don't want my picture taken, I have a right to say so, I have a right to privacy. And guess what, so do celebrities. All of you people who say that celebrities sign up for this are cruel and frankly, a little stupid. Yes, there are celebs like Heidi-frickin-Montag that are attention whores, but there are also normal people who just happen to sing or act. They deserve their privacy just like you and I do. Papparazzi are a threat to everyone's safety, not just celebs. And again, taking someone's picture has nothing to do with 1st amendment, read the fucking constitution.

  83. Celia says – reply to this

    183

Celebrities are people. Granted, fame dictates that they're constantly in the public eye. Still, there needs to be boundaries. I say make a reasonable distance to be kept between the paps and their targets both in public, and private. Paps are shocking, and you'd be done for harassment if not stalking when doing this to an ordinary person. It's about time something was done about it.

You idiot! It wouldn't infringe of their "freedom of press." You can still write a story without a picture. What about people's safety? Not just the celebrities safety but the rest of the public who have to maneuver around these lunatics with cameras. Not to mention the press used to be intelligent people who had two thoughts to rub together. Now adays the "press" are half witted unemployable idiots who bought a camera at Best Buy and think they are legit.
