    UGH! Leave Toby Keith ALONE!
That song has been out for ages! Y'all can sit around all day and bring down celebrities all you friggin' want, but Toby Keith is not a racist, or anything like that! This songs for a bunch of hicks sittin' in a garage, workin' on cars and drinkin' beer! If you don't like it don't listen to it! Simple as that. It doesn't say anywhere in the song that he hates black people, or thinks that they should be hung, or anything like that. He's talking about the Old days when people used to do it! Don't be so friggin' literal, because seriously, there's so many other things going on right now that need your attention instead of a song! Like what Perez wrote earlier about the attack on the bus. Why don't you put all your anger or something out on the people that do that, instead of dropping it on a song that talks about crap that happened years ago!? There are so many people in here cursing him for what has been said, but seriously, IT'S FACT!! THIS SHIT DID ACTUALLY HAPPEN!! Seriously, y'all need to get a life.

    502

Bullshit, he is not trying to be racist. The song is talking about mobster, theives, etc, we all know that black people are not the only people who break the law. Even the "bad guy" in the video, the prostitute serial killer is white. Also, white people were lynched too in the south.

& for those people say, "That's why I hate country music." Get over yourselves! Even IF it was a racist song, its not the only genre of music that does.. Rap/hip-hop has much more prejudice & offensive remarks, but I don't discriminate on an entire genre of music because of that, I just don't listen to or buy music that does.

    503

Perez, you are a fucking idiot. This song has been out for at least two years — get with it, asshole! And so fucking what? Maybe we should lynch criminals, regardless of their race.

  4. Queen says – reply to this

    504

Big fucking deal. People give their panties in a wad for anything (particularly from a white person) that seems the least bit politically incorrect.

  5. Curri says – reply to this

    505

wow, I am starting to not even like like this web site anymore - when did the Perez become like EVERYONE else??? Way to go peopl, take a song about giving bad PEOPLE (not white or black or blue but BAD, DIRTY NASTY KILLING RAPING)what they deserve and turning it into the singer doing something wrong. Maybe if we did start hanging ppl in the street for doing awful things would ACTUALLY cut down on the number of pple doing bad things!!! NAH!!! instead we will yell at the people who had the balls to say anything about it and make them out to be a bad person instead! wow!!!!

  6. Lolli says – reply to this

What the hell is his problem?

  7. magus says – reply to this

    507

I have read the lyrics on a news site, and, if you try really really hard you can make it a racist song, but America needs to get over this shit! We are WAY too PC in this country, and we are now starting to see the backlash of it. Toby is a good ole boy, and country singers never make it onto my music radar, much less influence my thinking in any way, but all I believe he is saying is we need to clean up the shit-disturbers in this country and weed them out, and I'm not so sure that would be a bad thing! We seem to tend to villainize the WRONG things nowadays, and don't take care of our real problems!

  8. Abby says – reply to this

    508

That song has been out for quite some time its a duet w/ Willie Nelson…That article is so stupid talk about reading too much into it…. Sometimes I think Perez you post things without looking into them…Toby Keith is alright in my book!

  9. May says – reply to this

    509

oh hell they should never of taken it away in the first place. If you got a good rope use it. criminals these days need get what they deserve . You go Toby!

  10. wow says – reply to this

    510

wow…your all idiots if you think thats offensive. Jesus, its just a fucking song people need to stop nit picking.

  11. EVA says – reply to this

    511

Perez, I think you're overreacting a bit to this video. First of all, Toby Keith is more westerner than southerner (he's an Okie). Second the references in the song are to the vigilantism of the West not the lynchings of the South. Third, the evil-doers in it are Anglo. And finally, while mentioning the vigilante actions of grandparents, the video actually tells a tale of tracking down and catching criminals using modern methods and legal methods, not lynching. You will note the bad guy gets caught and hauled off to jail. Ok, so maybe it's a wee bit macho and silly, but it's not at all what you are trying to claim it is. And I agree with others, take down those horrible photos that are YOUR posting not from the video. They just don't relate and they distort opinion about the video. And by the way, where was all the outrage when this song first came out well over a year ago.

  12. Vix says – reply to this

    512

If you think this is racist, then listen to Ludacris' new song. Oh I'm sorry, it's not racist because it's in support of Barack Obama (who, by the way, would not have all the celebrity support if he wasn't black; if he wwas Republican, with completely different ideas, he would have the same one-track-minded supporters).

  13. wow says – reply to this

    513

don't give a shit, still a great song and a great singer. everyone is so easily offended by everything.

QUIT YOUR BITCHING AND GET OVER IT!

Shouldn't we be a tad more concerned with the crap they talk about in wrap songs? I'd rather listen to a song that talks about something that happened 100 damn years ago then listen to something talking about raping hoes and popping caps in peoples asses.

  14. Paige says – reply to this

    514

ARe you freaking kidding me?? How old is this song?? It must be a slow gossip day. Why dont you find out what Miley is doing right now. Like I give a fuck!!! Lets all step away from our computers and GET A LIFE!!! Thank you fro letting me vent.

  15. ali says – reply to this

    515

you know this is ridiculous, first of all, that verse in the song is sang by willie nelson, but no one attacks him because he's a liberal just like the rest of the hollywood freaks. toby keith however is a conservative and is the first to catch shit. it's crazy. i love you perez but this is dumb. team toby keith here

  16. teach says – reply to this

    516

I agree with the Dixie Chicks…FYTK!!!!!!

Can't stand him. He's a stereotypical redneck dumbass.

  17. Shay says – reply to this

    517

Re: ali – Just for information Toby is a democrat.

  18. chris says – reply to this

    518

I think it's so dumb this is even an issue. Some people have nothing better to do than stir up problems. I guess some liberal ran out of things to bitch about this morning and had to find something to do… Racism will exist as long as we want it to, its that simple; if people wouldn't make discrimination the excuse for not getting something we wouldn't have these problems. Btw, how old is the song again? I don't remember hearing all this crap when it came out years ago!!

  19. SjJp says – reply to this

    519

Did you watch the video? Did you notice the lack of lynchings and the fact that the 'bad guy' in the video is white??? You put such a leftist slant on everything you write… and all your sheep follow along. Congrats, Perez, you are the ultimate leader of sheep.

  20. diana says – reply to this

    520

this song has been around for years… i don't see why people are making a big deal about the lyrics now????… maybe it was time to find someone else to make miserable. leave him alone! there are a lot worse things said in some of the most popular music today, but yet no one ever says anything about those lyrics, do they?

  21. Mel says – reply to this

    521

Fist of all…this song is years old, and the fact that this "controversy" is coming about now is only because of the movie.

Second of all…not everything can be taken as far as it has been. The song is talking about getting rid of the 'bad guys.' And gangsters haven't always been black people.

There's no reason to get bent out of shape about something like this, when there are other, more gruesome things being said around the world.

  22. Sarah says – reply to this

    522

That song is not about fucking lynching. It's about cowboys and vigilante justice. Do you really think he'd refer to black people as "bad boys?"

And Willie Nelson sings those lines, not Toby.

Anyway, this is the dumbest story I've ever seen you put up here. Find some real battles to fight.

  23. Mandi says – reply to this

    523

I've never been a Toby Keith fan, and I do agree that most of what comes out of his mouth is verbal diarrhea, but I have to disagree with this posting. Like everything written out there it can be interpreted in more than one way. In other words, you can read into it whatever you want to get out of it. Just my two cents.

  24. amy says – reply to this

    524

just because some are not fans of country nor are conservative does not mean you have to look to deeply into something that is not there.

  25. ohwel says – reply to this

    525

Still not as bad as all the gansta-rap. At least he's talking about punishing crimianls, not calling all women hos and bitches…

  26. Josh says – reply to this

    526

OMFG racist? You have got to be kidding me! Talk about squeezing blood from a turnip. There is nothing remotely racist in this video or in the lyrics. You know, it's stupid shit like this that dumbs down the real racism that occurs in this country. Trying to make things racist that AREN'T is only making it harder for the true victims of racism. They are the ones that no one will believe when it really occurs. Think about that before you open your big fucking mouth and cry "racist" at every opportunity you get.

  27. Ashle says – reply to this

    527

First time I ever felt that I should comment…read blog daily…disagree 100%…Have you seen the video ever??? It's about western. how many blacks are even in the video? Go look, maybe 1??? Ever heard rap lyrics-and those aren't offensive???, I mean really come up with something better than that. This is an old song of Toby's, I think it's great you are getting people to see he has a new movie coming out…I'll see you Toby in ATL on Sept. 11. At least someone in this country is still patriotic!

  28. Candy says – reply to this

    528

maybe if things were more like they were back then when the law was the law and people respected that we wouldn't have all the problems we do now. i think Toby Keith is right and should not be shit on because of this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Candy says – reply to this

    529

    531

you goobs! this song is not about lynching. if any of you know, back in the day, that's how they did it, they hung people who committed crimes. where does this song say anything about lynching or being a racist? there were no electric charis or lethal injections. besides, this song has been out for ages . . . and you just now decide it's wrong?????????

  32. jbee says – reply to this

    532

Re: Dan – very very well said.

  33. Dave says – reply to this

    533

There's always an idiot out there attempting to connect an issue to racism when they can. Max is an idiot. Racism will never end when you have some moron writing a story like this, attempting to draw a connection and twisting the meaning of an artist. Find another type of work, you obviously can't write a competent story you shithead!

  34. Oh pl says – reply to this

    534

That song has been around for so long now and has Willie Nelson in it too. I never took it as a lynching song but a song about the old west meets modern times. Liberals can read whatever they want into go it. GO TOBY!

  35. lina says – reply to this

    535

this is ridiculous. he has one black guy in the video and its racist rant. america won't be "colorblind" until things stop being blown out of porportion.

  36. I says – reply to this

    536

That song is 7 years old and it was never a big deal then apparently. It was top of the charts too. Just cause now it's with a movie, its a big deal? Please, eff off

  37. Alexa says – reply to this

    537

The Huffington Post are liberal idiots.
There never was or is anything wrong with that article.
    THEY're the onces being racist,
Making it seem like when he refers to 'gangsters',
That he only means black people.
Arent white people also in gangs?
And, hes just referring to back in the day when criminals were actually punished,
Not like today when rapists roam free because of idiotic judges.
They shouldnt dissect a song for more than it means.

  38. Alexa says – reply to this

    538

    Crap!
    Song, i meant song.
    Haha

  39. Hanna says – reply to this

    539

This song came out years ago. When I saw the show I was confused why Toby Keith sang it, because it's that old. However, it's a song. Just because someone writes a book about rape, it doesn't mean they're a rapist. Toby Keith sings a song about lynching criminals, not black people, and, again, it's a song; he's not saying "Hey, do this in your spare time like me."

  40. 540

seriously, this is like a 5-6 year old song. If someone was gonna make a big deal about it, it should've been then. And the song is about bringing criminals to justice, whether you think all black people are criminals or not is your own thing. This article is dumb.

  41. Court says – reply to this

    541

I am pretty sure this was a Willy Nelson song first

  42. Sarah says – reply to this

    542

It sounds like someone needs to open a history book. African americans were not the only race to get lynched. Assuming he was talking about hanging them and only them is ignorant.

  43. pc is says – reply to this

    543

The song is not racist. People are just looking for reasons to be upset or are reading things into it that just aren't there. The song is nostalgic for the days when criminals were strictly punished. You may not agree with his politics, but he has the right to believe in the death penalty. I do not agree with all of his points of view, but he is an entertainer, not a politician. Toby Keith has the guts to say things that aren't always popular and he will defend his views. Isn't that what being an American is all about?

And by the way that song is several years old!

  44. Jenny says – reply to this

    544

Not seeing anything racial at all. When Toby's "granpappy" was a boy gangster meant something totally different than it does now. Get over it. I love you Perez but you really do buy into all the alarmist propaganda that the media puts out there. So naive!

To the douche that said Toby Keith was a DEMOCRAT: please remove yourself from under that rock you have been living under.

  45. 545

that is so offensive….he would have had to know the meaning of his lyrics.
my aunt and father grew up in the racist south and had to witness those kind of things on a routine basis, does he not know who he is offending?

  46. Me says – reply to this

    546

Like a persons words or not, those words only have power over you if YOU give them power.

  47. 547

Re: me. – it doesn't matter. the n word has been around for ages but it doesn't make it alright to use it! it's offensive, period.

  48. Arizo says – reply to this

Everything turns into a race issue? Where the F@ck to you come up with this shyte. Team Toby!

  49. Jenny says – reply to this

    549

Please show me where he uses the N word in that song. I'll wait.

  50. Katie says – reply to this

    550

Re: Linds – I agree with you 100%. And I just gotta say, Fuck You Perez! Do you even know anythign about this song? Its inspirred by an old Rodeo saying. Toby Keith is not saying he is going to go out and hang anyone. He's just talking about not letting criminals get away with their crimes. And just for good measure, FUCK YOU PEREZ!!

  51. amand says – reply to this

    551

Ok this is just stupid to get upset over this song Perez. NOWHERE in the song does he mention lyching a black person or any certain race or color. They are lynching the bad guys. And maybe if more people actually paid for their crimes instead of sitting on vacation in jail while us taxpayers pay for it, there wouldn't be so much crime!

  52. m says – reply to this

    552

I didn't find his lyrics offensive.

What do gangsters contribute to society? Nothing. Are you trying to suggest that their existance is somehow a good thing?
I wish they'd do civilized society a favor and all kill each other. There- problem solved.

  53. Toby says – reply to this

    553

Re: May – You are great!!! Love your post

  54. bluen says – reply to this

    554

it isn't about hanging blacks or jews it's about, criminals being dealt with too lightly.Just because he says gangsters doesn't mean he means blacks, gangsters used to be associated with the mafia, any criminal can be a gangster.Stop looking for excuses to hate white people, 99 percent of us really don't care what color you are as long as you are a good person you're fine by us.

    555

I am impressed you read the Huffington Post, Perez! That was a surprise

  56. Logic says – reply to this

    556

This from the Huffington Compost. Low life liberals will try and make anything racist if it helps thier cause. When in reality it is liberals who are the most racist low lifes around.

  57. radou says – reply to this

    557

perez I love your page and read it all the time but you just proved that YOU HAVE GOT TO BE THE BIGGEST STEREOTYPER EVER. How could you have honestly read that article and agreed with what it says? it cannot backup ANYTHING it accuses Keith of. just because Toby is a country singer and from the south doesn't make him an ignorant racist you bigot. why don't you practice what you friggin preach and show some TOLERANCE for others.

  58. Rhond says – reply to this

    558

Huffington post is so coy. Just when ludicrus releases a song with lyric like "we gonna paint the White House, black and frighten them" huff post and perez hilton start chatting about racist Toby Keith and his racist song from three years ago. Its not even about lynching black people, its a song about the old west, cowboy justice, hang em high! Toby Keith and Willie Nelson for goodness sake. Its also a little pay back for Toby being outspoken about the Dixie Chicks. You know how the left loves the "Dixie Chicks"

  59. Ange says – reply to this

    559

It's a fucking song, get over it. Its entertainment. Your idea of it conflicts with his and many other peoples. Thats the joy of living in a free country.

  60. StayC says – reply to this

    560

racist ass country singer… he gives white people a bad name and is ignorant as all hell! Let's go hang him and see how he feels about lynching then… he's probably the head of the KKK

  61. 561

Perez, you are a retard. The song is about justice. After all the drama you caused, I wouldn't be surprised it Toby wrote a song about you.

  62. jessi says – reply to this

    562

dear perez, you are an idiot and a fat fucking slob that obviously doesn't do his homework. In the original song, that verse is sang by willie nelson, not toby keith, so the facts about his "grandpappy" have nothing to do with him. you're such a liberal ass. criminals of all color have been hanged in the past, so turning this into a racial issue makes me sick. maybe if all people wanted equality, they should stop being winy bitches. every race and religion has hardships, past and present. its time to stop punishing this generation for the past generations mistakes. get the fuck over it

  63. crick says – reply to this

    563

How stupid.People have to search for something to bitch about in every thing. It's a song for Christ sake. It's not a call to bring back lynching, every body whining about everything being racist all the time is getting out of hand.

  64. Teryn says – reply to this

    564

Are you kidding me? Are you really this ignorant?! Why are you putting a racial spin on this?! He is saying that if people would stop getting slapped on the wrist, maybe, just maybe, all this wacked out behavior would slow down. Sad………..I am addicted you, Perez. But this time, you are waaaay off!!

  65. Laure says – reply to this

    565

Whether you think this song is racist or not, it was released in 2003! That was FIVE YEARS AGO! So why should everyone get so upset now? Sorry that you haven't heard of Toby Keith until now, but this song has been out forever, and I have never heard anyone say anything about it!

  66. WHAT? says – reply to this

Bad guys(girls) should be punished for their crimes. I fail to see the problem. If criminals thought that they could be hung in modern day America maybe we, the public would be safer. I am not white and I find no offense in this.

  70. Curt says – reply to this

    571

oh, so no white men have ever been hung before???…check your history books, and what about rappers who call woman hoes and b**ches and killing each other.. Or what about foreign countries who rape, murder and mutilate children and women for not "following their laws"..thats all excusible, the left side media and all your horse**it ideas of RACE and DISCRIMINATION..shut your pie holes and get a real job!!!!!!!!!!

  72. curti says – reply to this

    572

I think I'd rather not give beer to horses given PETA's stance on the issue. It could also get expensive. However, I just find it funny people crack on southerners not being smart enough to know what the song represents, and I must laugh and say maybe its dumbfuck northerners that can't read or comprehend anything that doesn't have pop up pictures with a detailed explanation. Think Back to the old days when all races were hung for evil deeds, and none of these crimes he mentioned are exclusive to a race, nor is the word Gangster. I think Cosa Nostra and the Triad can attest to that.

  73. haha says – reply to this

We need more public hangings, the world would be a better place

  74. Jen says – reply to this

    574

People need to relax. It's just a song, a good song too, but then again I listen to country music. It's the same as Eminem and his lyrics about killing Kim, 50 Cent killing other gangsters. It's meant to be a song of back in the day when cowboys rode horses through town. Get lives!!! How many times have you said "That's gay" or "That's retarded". Same thing, insulting to some, not to others. Get over it. Move on. I'm sure somewhere Paris or Britney isn't wearing panties, go flock.

  75. phil says – reply to this

gezz man i'm no toby fan but have u ever heard of the OLD WEST the dudes a cowboy!they hung um high…really thats way overboard

  76. 576

This song is a couple of years old…? Why all the controversary now?? This song was written as an old western….a song about stories handed down to family members generations for many years…. Again this song is a couple years old so why now?

What is up with all the historical pictures attached to this article? If they are going to pick this apart then can you imagine what would happen if they read some of the "historical romance" books? I can only imagine the pictures they would come up with to attach to those…

    577

Perez is an idiot, he doesn't know his head from his ass! Ever heard of Free SPeech! ITS OKAY FOR GANGSTA RAPPAS TO KILL PEOPLE, SMACK BITCHES, SELL CRACK, BUT A WHITE PERSON HAS ONE LINE AND ITS RACIST! FU PEREZ U STUPID COCKSMOKING ASSHOLE JUST REPORT UR CRAP STOP JUDGING OTHERS. IF U DONT LIKE TOBY THEN DONT BUY HIS STUFF, BUT DONT TELL THE REST OF US THAT HE IS A RACIST.

  78. 578

You DO realize, don't you, that lynching wasn't exclusive to BLACK PEOPLE right? Whoever wrote the fucking article needs to take off the blinders, get his thumb out of his ass, and do some real research.

  79. stuup says – reply to this

    579

You are the one who is playing the race card! Just because a lyric mentions lynching, you assume it has to be a black man? I'm no country music fan, but you have got to lighten up Perez. The song may be bad, but it isn't racist.

The douchebag that wrote that piece of shit article should kill himself and save the rest of the world the grief. Im getting sick of how everything that is done is being construed as racist. Come-the-fuck-on! Have you heard any of Toby Keith's songs before? His music isnt racist! Its the dipshits that think its racist who are the real racists! Jesus Christ! Get a fucking life you losers! And as for his choice of actors to play the "bad guy", look at almost every other movie or tv show: Oz - blacks were beyond brutal on that show, The Shield - they have had more bad black people on that show than i can remember, and gee i wonder how they got the idea to use black people as gang members or as bad guys? Could they be racist on the shows? NO! they turn on the news and open a news paper! Get over yourselfs! and last but not least: SUCK IT FUCKWADS!

    Re: Ross – Thank you!

  83. Tiffa says – reply to this

    583

Although Toby Keith is not one of my favourite people, I do agree with the lyrics to his song. I don't believe that the song is about hanging "blacks" or "jews" or "mexicans", I believe it is about standing up to the bad people that are out there getting away with murder. We have far too many repeat offenders to think that harsher punishment is not needed for these "animals". Nobody wants to talk about it until something bad has happened to someone they love, but by then it is too late. There is no such thing as rehabiliton for some criminals, and if the answer is to "hang them high from the old oak tree" then so be it!

People are too up-in-arms about stupid shit! Take you Peter Puffers, the Fag and Dike Alliance made Snickers pull the Mr. T commercial. Why? Because he was making fun and shooting Snickers candy bars at a speed walker, and they said that it was an assualt on a Homo-sexual man (the speed walker). Stupid asses.

If you're offended by this, you are admitting that most likely, if someone is shot or abused, if a car is missing, and if there are gangsters and crime in the streets, it is related to a black community. Otherwise why would you even think that?

The song is about doing away with evil, it doesn't have anything to do with black people. I agree with Rocky and am so sick of people getting offended by looking too far into things. BTW the song is a couple years old— if this was a problem why is it just coming up now??

  88. 588

Boohoo. What a load of crap! It's just a stupid country song by a guy who needs a haircut. Isn't there anything better to cry about today?

First let me start by saying that I was intrigued by this posting because of my distaste of Toby Keith and his treatment of Natalie Maines during the whole Dixie Chicks scandal. So, I read the story and I am clueless as to what the hubbub is about.

The article dissects the lyrics to say that when Toby's Grandpappy was around, blacks were lynched, etc. The author needs to take that a step further and realize that when he says, "whiskey for my men, and beer for my horses", he's talking about a time when men traveled in groups by horseback, stopped at salons to drink, fought crime like vigilantes and actually did hang people, of all races, for the public to see based on the crimes they committed. This is NOT a "lynching the blacks ruled" song.

What?! Not once does Toby Keith mention "black" or "Mexican" in the song! A gangster is a gangster - black, Mexican, White, whatever your Heritage may be! Why does everything have to be made into a racial issue? If you ask me the people who started this fuss are the racists. Wake up people.

Seriously, that is taking everything WAY out of proportion. I agree with the song and love it. This is what i say to that article. gimme a break!

Okay, he isn't talking about hanging black people, but great way to be quick to judge.

I love you perez, but sometimes you're just fucking stupid.

Typical anti-south crap from Perez. For a man that gives so much grief to those he sees as not open-minded, etc., you seem very hypocritical.

Perez, I do love you so, but do you have to believe everything you read? The Huffington Post writer of the Toby Keith article is blowing the lyrics of the song WAY out of proportion. What happened to people in colonial times that were caught doing something wrong? They were hanged! Just because it talks about hanging a criminal doesn't mean Keith is pro-lynching.
