I am so disturbed by this story. Then I read about Toby Keith's (think that is his name) song and see pictures of mob lynchings with people dead hanging from trees. This world is scary, overcrowded, and filled with such horrible prejudices and horrible events. This act of violence is repulsive and words cannot explain it. When the deinstitutionlization (sp?) started occuring in the 1980's most went home to families or where put out on the streets (so to speak). While our understanding of mental illness increases through research the access to treatment has diminished greatly. I don't think they need to bring back the sprawling "asylums" of the past but people who clearly need intensive psychiatric treatment are being left out in the cold.

this is devistating… i cant believe that there are people out there who can do these things… anyway, in all honesty, i have traveled on bus in alberta before, and the edmonton bus station is unreal. anyone who has been there can tell you, "dont look anyone in the eye" "hang onto your stuff like its made of gold" "never go there alone" i know it can happen anywhere, but come on, out of all the bus stations in canada, there has got to be reason why edmonton gets the most crap, and if im not mistaken, this guy got on in edmonton right? anyway, with all the crap that goes on in edmonton bus station alone, how come people can travel on a bus, without going through security? i think all bus stations should be the same as an airplane… metal detectors, id proof, whatever, its cheaper to travel, so you know more crazy people can travel this way compared to a plane…. anyway, JUST my opinions, nobody eat me please…

It doesn’t matter where it happens; events such as this are horrific. Canadians tend to have a good sense of humor about ourselves and the stereotypes perpetuated about us. My sister just told me about this. We both live in Edmonton. It's very sad but not surprising that it happened on a bus. This isn't the first time for "Deadmonton" that someone was killed on a bus for apparently on reason. I wonder why this bus driver isn't being held accountable for not helping the victim like all the other bus drivers were though.

I woke up to this news this morning. It is very disturbing and my heart goes out the the victim's family. I live in Ontario and I have always considered Canada to be a very safe country. I sincerely hope that the actions of this one obviously very mentally ill individual does not sully the reputation of our great country.
This is literally out of a horror movie! Riding the bus sleeping then some psycho decapitates someone sitting beside them, then scares the others holding the head in one hand and the knife in the other! Scary!!!
