Perez, STFU. If you knew one thing beyond your own scope of thought, you'd get the idea that maybe talking about Walmart actually brings more people to a walmart. Don't you remember from your gay witch hunts? Negative publicity really isn't negative. IT's just more attention. Dumbass.

  3. 203

Who cares… I go for the low prices. :) We need to save up money because this economy sucks! I'll go shop at walmart all I want!

wal mart tells the truth, is that why they suck? PLEASE. If people hated them so bad they would not be the worlds BIGGEST retailer and trying to break in to banking. People want cheap CRAP or else they would not be there. Get over your self Perez. Bet your mom shops Wal-mart like everyone else.

i work at walmarts and i havent heard anything about this at all. there were a few comments that were totally wrong as well. one said that walmarts is a very homophobic company. i find this funny considering the manager of my store is gay and he isnt the only one. there are a couple other managers that are as well. another comment said that women are paid less that is also wrong. i have many guy friends at the store and pay is based on your department and experience. those in my department started off at the same pay as i did. also walmarts pays the best compared to the other college jobs in my area. i had heard bad things about them before getting this job but since starting there i have found every single complaint to be false. dont believe everything you hear.

Until you know what the Employee Free Choice Act really is you shouldn't comment on it.

It's a way to coerce employees into signing a card that essentially unionizes them. The union representatives are NOT required to state the positive and negative aspects of the union, so naturally, they just present the positive.

If walmart is required to pay upwards of 9 or 10 dollars across the board…(not just here in CA where the min wage is already higher) they will be forced to cut jobs.

Then you can post another blog about how unemployment is going up…only this time, it will be the fault of your democratic buddies.

    Learn. The. Facts.

    For fucks sake.

Working at Sam's Club, I can tell you that some things are set up to fail you there. Cutting hours little by little so once yout year (YEAR!) of employment comes up for benefits, you will be right under the requirement for benefits. Also forcing people to go home early.

You anti-Wal Mart people kill me…. talk about morons! Don't believe everything you read about the place… you hear alot of horror stories with only a small percentage of them being true. Seriously, think about this news story, EVEN if the management was suggesting not to vote for Obama, how would they know if you voted for him or not? I seriously doubt that the store manager is gonna be looking over your shoulder in the damn voting booth. I've worked for Wal Mart for over 6 years and started at over $8 an hour, go to most other retail stores and your lucky to start at minimum wage. Another thing you people need to realize is that Wal Mart is a DAMN STORE! You don't work at Wal Mart with the expectation of getting rich unless you are looking to get into management somewhere down the line. I'm not sure what people expect of the company at times… you'll all rattle off this and that and not really have a clue what your talking about.

    209

    unfortunately, money equals power.

walmart is one of the richest (read:powerful) corps in the biz. they got that way off of money from poor and lower middle class families, and the people that truly can't afford to shop elsewhere. i was raised family like that. now that i'm older and can afford better, i'm glad i'll never have to shop there again for many reasons.

it's disgusting to see cooperations get rich off the less fortunate, than turn around and treat their own employees like dumb, unless trash.

walmart employees AND shoppers deserve more.

Another reason to hate WalMart - they are NOTORIOUSLY anti-union. Not only that, their stores are filthy and a cluttered mess, their parking lots are unsafe at night, their produce sucks, their customer service is non existent and nothing but ghetto/trailer trash shops there, at least at the one closest to where I live. No thanks, I'll stick to Target and ShopKo and Costco!

    Re: Good!

are you serious?? this isn't a partisan issue AT ALL. i'm a democrat, and if i worked there and they told me to vote for obama, I WOULD STILL BE APPALLED.

the irony here is that america is based on democracy, ie the freedom of choice to vote for whomever one wants to–this action is a slap in the face to all those who fought and died in the revolution so people could vote for who they wanted to!!

    218

You wish wal-mart sucked. Don't believe the hype. Wal-Mart has done far more good than harm, not just charitably. They are a target of the left as the left wishes to quash upward mobility and hope and make victims out of everyone. More people who see themselves as victims first=the more people who will vote democrat!

  19. 219

Note to WalMart employees: Unionized workers MAKE MORE MONEY than non-unionized workers.

  20. kate says – reply to this

    220

THIS IS AIMED AT KEEYS-not all unions are perfect, but their quality is based on the integrity and the involvement of its members. Strikes are rare. Unions work to make sure workers are treated fairly and paid adequately people have power in numbers. Sure workers at walmart are never gonna get rich working their but they should be able to support themselves. Additionally, walmarts employees cant be outsourced their jobs can not (for the most part)be sent to mexico so their situation is ripe for unionizing.

  21. 221

Wal-Mart is a horrible company to work for. I was a cashier for 4 months (from Feb. 08-June 08) and I nearly went insane. So many customers are morons and all the managers are middle school drop outs. When you stand up for yourself your targeted for all types of abuse at that place. The pay is way low and the hours SUCK BOOTY HOLE! I'm glad I quit. Now I work for a call center and even with all the crap that goes on there and least I have a chair to sit in and a computer to type on.

  22. reali says – reply to this

    222

union's run and ruin corporations. there's nothing wrong with walmart protecting their company and letting people in on the "real" story on what obama will do if elected. wise up, read the ALL facts and stop believing perez.

  23. Liz says – reply to this

    223

Somebody got it right here, the ONLY people that are making money at Wal-Mart are the WALTONS! Check out the Forbes 400 richest Americans, the Waltons are listed (5 each) at nearly $17,000,000,000.00 a piece!!!!!! But don't you DARE cut into their profits. It's a great picture of America that the poorest citizens are duped into shopping there to make one family one of the richest in the world.

    226

people are idiots anyway! there are plenty of ways to get a great deal if you're on a budget OTHEr than going to wal-fart. Craigslist, Ebay. yard sales, costco are just a few other less-evil alternatives. Wake up, folks!!!!!!

  27. Kate says – reply to this

    227

SO… walmart cannot warn their employees of what the candidates might do to their company if elected- raising taxes etc….but teachers unions can make teachers contribute to elect all democrats. Where do you think their union fees go to? Please, you people think you are so righteous for not shopping at walmart. I was at a union grocery store yesterday and a six pack of yogurt cost 4.16 at walmart it cost 1.89. Don't even think that union bosses aren't telling their employees to elect democrats. All of a sudden it is evil if they suggest to vote republican, the horror.
I hope all unions get what they deserve.

  28. 228

wal-mart is dangerous because they put thier competition out of business. lack of competition is always bad for the consumer.
i know someone who works there– she paid about $400 out of pocket just for a basic physical exam because her walmart health insurance was so crappy. i'm in a union. i have great insurance and i paid $20 for mine.
i had a lot of crappy jobs for a long time until i got this job. having great health insurance is really important.
i don't shop at walmart because i think they are bad for the world. i fear what the world will be like in 50 or 100 years when walmart is the only store left.

And thanks to Walmart we have full health coverage, paid vacation, 401k, discounts, and a fat bonus every year…boy do they suck….NOT!! If they suck so bad why do so many people shop there?!?

    236

They should be fined heavily and publicly shamed to the fullest possible extent.
Additionally , people spewing anti union rubbish are completely misinformed to put it mildly . Unions AREN'T bad things they merely serve to create culpability between a company and its workforce and thus ultimately a climate of DUALITY and fairness,
They're especially essential things when companies with awful records in just about every filed like walmart exist. If they refuse to voluntarily redress the balance and make their work environments a healthier and fairer place for their employees to work in they deserve the backlash they're trying to stop.
    .
walmart - anticompetitive misanthropic and now anti democratic to boot..

Hey, Mario, are you aware that Wal Mart is the biggets employer here in the U.S.? I'd love to see you tell hundreds of thousands of people who work for Wal Mart and support their families from those wages that Wal Mart "sucks". In your liberal mind, a big company is supposed to be nice but, in the real world, a companies the size of Wal Mart can only survice in a cut-throat market by making tough decisions that some, like you, don't like (or understand).

Re: fuckt – I agree. I live in Phoenix, AZ and the Walmarts are always much cleaner than the Target stores. The Target bathrooms are disgusting and the prices aren't that great compared to Walmart. The man who's in charge of hiring at the Target in Northwest AZ essentially told me they have higher prices in order to "look better" than Walmart. Go figure. Shop wherever the fuck you want - it's your dollar. The economy is collapsing. It's a matter of financial means. Walmart's had a lot of good Perez doesn't post. But whatever. It boils down to the best deal and Walmart has the monopoly. They are trying to change their redneck image. Trust me.

SHE SAID SHE STARTED JUST EIGHT YEARS AGO EARNING MINIMUM WAGE, WHICH IN AZ IS UNDER $7 AN HOUR AND SHE'S UP TO TWICE AS MUCH IN EIGHT YEARS. SHE SAID EVERYONE TREATS HER WITH THE UTMOST RESPECT AND THE BENEFITS ARE GREAT. ALSO, WALMARTS PRODUCTS ARE FANTASTIC. THEY DO A TON OF BUSINESS WITH NAME BRAND COMPANIES: NESTLE, MCDONALD'S, ETC. SO WHILE YOU'RE OUT TRYING TO BOYCOTT WALMART, YOU MAY AS WELL BOYCOTT MCDONALD'S, NESTLE (THEY OWN STOUFFER'S, ARROWHEAD WATER, HAGGENDAAS ICE CREAM, TO NAME A FEW) SO WHY DON'T YOU BOYCOTT THOSE TOO?? PRETTY SOON, YOU'LL BE GROWING YOUR OWN FOOD IN YOUR BACKYARD AND USING YOUR JUNK MAIL FOR TOILET PAPER. MY POINT? LET IT GO. SHOP AT WALMART WITH NO REMORSE AND BE HAPPY. YOU'LL LIVE LONGER. LIFE'S TOO SHORT TO BE SO PETTY.

All of the big stores are bad in some ways -, this however has tipped the scales HEAVILY in targets favor. ugh. The line kinda needs to be drawn somewhere and I'm willing to venture a guess and say attempting to rig an election by strong arming employees into voteing a certain way and using propaganda videos to convince them into doing so is when America should be starting to worry about corporations getting WAY too big for their britches

    251

The Walmart machine isn't so bad? Please, every time they plant a store somewhere, the local economy goes bust. Walmart is like a disease to real estate value. There's a reason why prestigious neighborhoods are always petitioning for Walmarts to be built elsewhere. 'Not in my neighborhood' is a creed of the well to do. If you're smart or lucky, you will steer clear of living near one.

And I've never heard of an American company that is so obsessed with banning unions. It is so disturbing that they are coercing their workers to vote for a presidential candidate. It's downright unconstitutional. This is the same company that advises its workers to get on social welfare programs in order to obtain adequate healthcare. You can bet this is costing taxpayers every step of the way. Yes, they provide cheap products but in the bigger scheme of things, what is it really costing this country?

  52. jacqu says – reply to this

I work for Wal-Mart, Corp and they treat me very well. I love my job regardless of what other people say. I know I've heard how they treat their employees but I know about 15 people who either currently work at Wal-Mart or at one time in their life have and they don't have these complaints. Anybody who has worked in retail knows that it isn't the company that is always the bad guy, a lot of times the treatment of employees varies store to store. If you've never worked for the company I don't suggest you make comments not knowing the truth.

When I worked there, they would have meetings in the back with associates to discourage them from speaking with anyone, who maybe affiliated with a Union. Unless you were actually at one of these "meetings" you don't know what was said. I was at one last month. The purpose of the meeting was to inform us about the Employee Free Choice Act that was coming up for a vote. The only thing said about democrats was that they were pushing for it to go through. No one was told how to vote in the election. The meeting focused on explaining unions, what the EFCA was, and telling us, as supervisors what we could legally say to any associate who questioned us about unions and union cards. It was important to educate the hourly supervisors on this topic just in case the bill passed because even though we are not management, by union standards we are considered management. As for those who say Wal-Mart pay is so very bad, think again. I started out making a great deal of money as a part time cashier. To those that say they treat women badly, our store has more women supervisors and managers than men. To those that say they are homophobic, I know several gay and lesbian workers in our store alone including a manager.

Wal-Mart is held by the Walton's in the majority so they are the recipients of the profits. Yes, I do have the means to shop just about where ever I want, but I don't. I do not care to waste my money but I also do not care to fund the undeserving rich. Yes, Sam Walton built the company, but he's DEAD and his heirs are reaping the rewards. this is a backward interpetation. The secret ballot is the foundation of freedom at every level.
To do away with it for union organizing would allow retaliation against the people who are free to vote for the union if they choose to.
It would also allow the employer to know who is pro union. Mario has got to be smart enough to know that doing away with secret ballots does not further the cause of freedom.

Look, I'm what many people would classify as poor, with two kids to feed, and I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart. I worked there once in my teens and that experience exposed me to how this company systematically lowers the US standard of living. I'm not a snob, but I just can't buy from a corporation that promotes those kind of values just to save a few measly dollars. I can get food at an actual grocery store and you know what? I can pick though produce that isn't half rotten and crawling with bugs and buy meat that doesn't look at though its been sitting there for a week. I'll go to locally owned store in town to buy clothes(I don't need jeans with rhinestones on the rear pockets) and manage not to look like some bargain rack nightmare. I go to the library for books and movies. I'm one of the many, like you, that has no health insurance. But I pay all my dentist and doctor's bills in full. I've never received government assistance. Those of you who don't care and shop there anyway, great. If you've had a positive experience working there, great (I sincerely mean that, by the way). That being said, everyone has a choice. I choose to not to give some faceless, selfish business like Wal-Mart more ability to further screw over decent people. Just don't base your choice on your financial situation.

And he also said, anyone who believes Walmart is cheap, just because they are kind…forget about it. He said NEVER buy electronics at walmart. While comparison shopping you might find the same tv, but of course walmart would be much cheaper, he warned…NEVER ever buy it from there. What happens is, walmart buys the insides from the shadiest of all places and where they can buy them in bulk CHEAP. Once you have a problem, the place you get it fixed will see that the parts are NOT under waranty. Then you are screwed. Family values?? Thats laughable. A good friend of mines brother interviewed and he was told if he had a family, he better put them on the back burner because Walmart would be his family from the moment he was hired. DEMOCRAPS love unions. They supported the United Auto Workers and the workers got big money which you paid for when you bought an auto. Now UAW cannot help their union people with all of the lay offs, so the DEMOCRAPS go after Wal-Mart who have lower prices than most stores, put a union in and you will be hurt again by these people who love to fool the the comman working man. Unions are the close to being the American version of COMMIES.

Re: slick – Funny how rich / uneducated red necks are quick to shout COMMIE when the every person JUST MIGHT have additional rights afforded to them that gives them a right enshrined in law to command and get a fairer deal from their exploitative employers. Also walmart AREN'T really cheap they keep prices ARTIFICALLY low by deferring their responsibilities to provide health care to the state . Medicaid is paid for with your tax $.. so get a clue and educate yourself you evil tumorous republican jerk.

Perez why must you push your beliefs? You rag about the economy and unemployment rates yet why would you encourage boycotting a retailer when, like or dislike what they do, in my state many people are able to provide more food and clothing for their children because your dollar DOES go farther at Walmart. My dad belongs to a union and they do nothing for the employees but raise costs for Employers, thus raising costs for the people that shop there.
Get educated, and pull your head out, Perez.

If anyone has Comcast cable and On Demand, please watch "Wal-Mart - the high cost of low prices". They are the scourge of the world and unfortunately, most people who shop there do so out of necessity because most everything is imported.

Wow if you think for a second that if walmart did in fact drive out the smaller, family owned business and that for another second that another driven business owner would not start up or find a way to provide services, then you need to pack your bags because you have lost all faith in the AMERICAN SPIRIT!!! there will ALWAYS be OPTIONS in this country and people who think there will not are being driven by FEAR! CHILL out!!!!!!! vote for who you agree with in general- don't go by what walmart or any other company says! THINK FOR YOURSELF

Not only were we warned about Obama, it was just a few weeks ago we were warned how we should rate the store favorably on the next grass roots survey. We were warned that if we didnt rate favorably we were not 'good associates, we were not "engaging associates"' The store manager went on to say that she wanted at least a 70%, I believe is the figure she used.

Re: Perez – Walmart tried to pull something similar with ASDA in England (their largest and most profitable non-u.s. operation) which is unionized and made in excess of $12.8bn profit in 2007. -FROM WIKIPEDIA- "In February 2006, Asda was fined £850,000 for offering employees of a newly taken over distribution depot a pay rise to give up union rights. An employment tribunal found the American-owned supermarket chain guilty of promising 340 distribution staff a 10 per cent pay rise to give up the collective agreement negotiated by the GMB union – an act which is illegal under a 1992 labour relations law. The court ordered Asda to pay £2,500 to each employee at the County Durham depot. In June 2006, GMB Union members at the company's UK distribution depots agreed to strike for five days from 30 June 2006. The two sides failed to agree on how many of Asda's 12,500 depot workers belong to the union across its 24 depots around the UK. The GMB claimed the figure as 7,000, but Asda claimed the number was nearer 4,500. The depots affected include Bedford, Chepstow, Dartford, Didcot, Erith, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Ince George in Wigan, ymedale (in Staffordshire), Lutterworth, Portbury, Skelmersdale, Teesport, Wakefield, and ashington. ASDA threatened legal action, citing flaws in the ballot process, but after discussion at the TUC, an agreement was reached for a national level consultative body and the strike called off."

Perez, please stop with the political shit. You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. My god man, you what to sway the weak minded into voting for your canidate, as most celebrities seem to do, yet you don't realize why. Whats good for the average american worker is not the same as what is good for you. You make millions, the rest of us don't. Trust me, the more you hurt big companies and dig away at their profits, the more it will hurt the little guy. When minimu wage was raised, so were prices not to mention people getting laid off. You have 3 doing similar jobs and the pay goes up, what do you do, you get rid of 1 and make the other 2 fill in the gap.

  89. 289

i worked there in high school and we had to sign an agreement that we wouldn't unionize or try to unionize. we couldn't even discuss it with fellow employess either without getting fired!
watch the documentary on wal-mart I think its called High Cost, Low price or something like that. very interesting and certainly makes you reconsider if the savings is even worth it.
the crime rate alone in the wal-mart parking lots alone should be enough to deter customers from shopping there. we had a shooting at one of our walmarts and I live in Iowa! and they won't pay for increase security which would make the crime rate drop to like under 1 percent.
WE ALL NEED TO STOP SHOPPING THERE MYSELF INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see anything wrong with a company letting it's employees know how a candidate will affect them. It's still up to each person to do their research and decide for themselves. It doesn't seem any different than the celebrities who endorse a candidate.

I urge everyone who reads this to visit Wal Mart wearing a large, very noticible Obama pin. You might also want to have a few bumper stickers and signs on your car. You don't ahve to make any purchases, just walk around the store and drive slowly through the parking lot.
