Governator Orders Pay Cuts and Layoffs

Lots of folks over in the Golden State are very very pissed off at the Governator!
California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says that 10,000 layoffs and 200,000 pay cuts are necessary because of the state's dire financial straits.
Other government officials claim that it's all politics. Duh.

This is the biggest problem with THE PEOPLE, we just step aside and let Politicians do as they please and US the PEOPLE are the ones who have to deal with their problems and fuck up. I'm a student assistant…well, WAS a student assistant for the State Personnel Board, and yesterday was my last day with the people I came to consider my family. I'm eligible to come back, but who knows if I can. I'm so sick of hearing people thrash state workers for being lazy and rude. DMV does not represent the whole of state workers. Just because some dick put you in a bad mood years ago doesn't mean they all act that way.
I counted on this job to put me through college. You'd be upset too if you were punished for the shortcomings of the government

I'm kinda happy that these workers are being paid minimum wage. Perhaps the fat slow workers at the DMV will have to move a little quicker. I mean really, when you go to the DMV and half the windows are closed but there are 50 people in the office running around doing seemingly nothing it just doesn't seem right! Not only that we should take away all of those ridiculous holidays that the state workers are paid for…liike fricking Columbus Day and Flag Day!! I don't want my tax dollors going to that?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! This has been a loooooong time coming.

do you really the government is being efficient by laying off workers and cutting the wages of employees. i work for the government and once the budget has been approved majority of those that were laid off will probably get hired back to their jobs and all those salary cuts, they're going to get paid off.
so the government is going through allt his work to "layoff" people and "cut salaries" well in a month once the budget has been approved, measurements must be taken to return the government agencies to how they were before.
in other words, it's a lot of effort for nothing that WILL just waste even more money.
it's all for show. every year the budget is signed late and every year they get creative with ways to distract people. one year they gave employees IOU's and banks HAD to take them.

For the record:
Arnie doesn't collect a paycheck and all state employees, including elected officials, will receive the $6.55 minimum wage, that's Federal minimum wage, not CA minimum wage which is over $8.
I work hard and am under paid by about $20,000 as a state employee in my field. I have 2 BAs and 1 Masters and don't deserve to pay for the Governor's ignorance. The budget NEVER gets passed on time. He can suck it!
I am one of the state employees affected by the Governor's order. This situation is the fault of Arnold and the legislators that you and I elected. The Governor and the California legislators fail to pass a budget on time every year but this year Arnold is making the employees the scape goats for their failure to do their job. Its time to get rid of Arnold like the California voters we did to Gray Davis. California is in no better shape finanically then it was before Arnold took office. In fact it is alot worse. Just my two cents…..

Many of the state workers who receive a drastic pay cut or are laid off, will suddenly have their lives thrown into turmoil. People who don't have a damn thing to do with the state budget. Lay-offs like this are happening in every state. Why is it so important that it's california? CONGRATS Gov! Most politicians are extremly overpaid. Here in NB, Canada they are even introducing 10% bonus on just doing their job. They are disconnected from the middle and lower class, like MYSELF, and don't make policies that are beneficial to the majority of the population. As for the layoffs, unless I read it wrong, it said student assistants and retired annuitants. Those are not the "normal" state workers. RA's are people who already retired & are getting their state pension but are working again for the State. The student assistants I feel badly for as they often do more technical sorts of work and get less pay and few if any benefits.
As long as there's no budget, technically there's no money. And if there's no money, well then nobody gets paid.
I understand the Union's point and they really need to go after the Legislature!!

Finally, Arnold showing some cajones. If he doesn't do what he's doing, then the state legislature will raise our sales tax and try to find a way around Prop 13 to raise our property taxes. We are already one of the most highly taxed states in the nation as it is!
They also want to get rid of tax exemptions for households with children…that's okay to do? Gimme a break.
I suggest that if the legislature doesn't like what Arnold is doing, they should show the California people that they care and cut their OWN salaries. The state would definitely balance the budget with all of that extra cash.

Yeah as your income grows so should your taxes. EVERYBODY pays taxes. Even after 35% people making 300k and up are still going to be better off than the rest of us…. Unless your Ed McMahonn and a plethora of stars going bankrupt. I think the concern is for Americans making 85k and under budgeting and cutting where they can only to still struggle. So I'm sorry I can't squeeze out a tear for the wealthy. You are sadly mistaken Fluff. You mentioned that illegal immigrants pay taxes. Yes, they pay CA sales tax when they make purchases. However, a very large number of these immigrants receive wages "under the table" and do not pay social security or medicare taxes (or any income taxes for that matter). Additionally, if they are receiving legitimate paychecks, they do not make enough money to pay any Federal or CA income taxes. Also, the majority of illegal immigrants are not home owners here in CA, so they don't pay property taxes either.
Not to mention the fact that they are provided free health care and education…which isn't free for those middle-income Californians who are trying to raise families here.
Lastly, a large number of illegal immigrants send the money they make back to their families in their home countries. Therefore, this money is NOT going back into California's economy like it should.

Every state differs in how they handle their Illegals. I can tell you if you are dealing with illegals at your job they HAVE A TAX ID IN ORDER TO BE PAID. Therefore, it begs the question… HOW COME WE CAN GIVE THEM TAX ID NUMBERS TO COLLECT A CHECK? Uncle Sam made sure to not screw the tax man over. Secondly in regards to healthcare, How many Americans currently do not have it???
