No Dogs Allowed

This seems like they're going just a little too far. And by "a little" we mean a whole helluva lot!
It's somewhat of a common trait for single guys here in the U.S. to walk their dog in the park in order to pick up chicks.
Well, it seems Saudi Arabia isn't too happy with that happening in their country.
In an attempt to keep the sexes apart, the extremely religious Islamic country has made a new law.
All sales of dogs and cats as pets have been banned in the capital of Riyadh. Walking your previously purchased pets in public is also banned.
We're not making this up!
Othman al-Othman, from the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, said the ban was ordered because of "the rising of phenomenon of men using cats and dogs to make passes at women and pester families." Not to mention they are apparently "violating proper behavior in public squares and malls."
The new law took effect this past Wednesday in Saudi Arabia's capital and will be strictly enforced by authorities, unlike previous bans in two other cities which were ignored.
Those that violate the law will face the consequences.
Anyone found outside with their pets violating the law will have their doggies and cats confiscated by the agents of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. Yes, that's the official name of the religious police which has the task of enforcing the strict Islamic codes.
Al-Othman added, "If a man is caught with a pet, the pet will be immediately confiscated and the man will be forced to sign a document pledging not to repeat the act. If he does, he will be referred to authorities."
Sad.
No information has been released on whether the pet ban would extend past the capital, but let's hope not.

Sure, its terrible about the pets, but why are people not throwing a frenzy over the suppression, and abuse of women and children in that country? To me that seems far more repulsive.

I was a US soldier in the Iraq war, and I saw how the Arab men would treat their women. It was disgusting. When the men were not around, the women would make passes at us. They desire freedom, and see us, and our women as how they would like to live, but the religious society prevents the women from taking a stand due to fear of death.
Muslims won't touch dogs because they think they are unclean like pigs, so anyone with a pet dog in Saudi Arabia would be a non-muslim, of which there are very few. It's ridiculous, of course, because muslims are dirtier than pigs and dogs.

All pets stay in their houses (cats & dogs) and they are all being treated with top care.

Out of all the middle eastern countries, Saudi Arabia is known to be the most strict when it comes to adhering to these religious rules. Men and Women cannot be together in public unless they are in a family seating area and they're husband and wife or unless it is strictly for business (although, there have been cases where people have been arrested for that anyway). This is common over there and not a surprise. Perez and others here who are making derogatory comments about Muslims and Arabs, please, lay off and chill out… or at least do your research first/leave this type of topic to those of us with a little CLASS. I just came back from a pet shop and a pet clinic. After talking with my vet, he said they did not get any official papers that confirm this law. And it will never take place.
All the animals were doing well in the pet shop too. However I'll be honest I didn't take my cat with me, but after talking to the vet, me and my cat are going there in 15 minutes.
Everybody I would like to thank you for your concern and good wishes fir us and our pets.
And for those close minded people dissing Islam and Saudis, I would like to tell them (bravo! you just showed the entire world how ignorant you are, and you wasted time from your life writing a comment filled with hate

This is rather amusing to me. Wahabism is very strict about the opposite sexes mingling. So the cat and dog thing is one those many clever ways the opposite sexes come up with to establish contact. If the holy men are worried about "mingling" they need to close down the malls. Saudi teenagers, female and male, are very clever about devising ways to communicate especially using the malls. Actually, its charming and, by western standards, innocent.
