Plus, I'm not ridden with STDs, which is usually what happens when a person mixes lots of booze with lots of random sex with strangers. Celibacy is grossly underestimated in today's sex-ridden society. It should be considered just as viable an option as whoredom, but often those who've chosen this path are denigrated, chastized and thought to be crazy.

Such attitudes that espouse having lots of casual sex is good to help women “decide what they want in a relationship” are to blame for the continuing increase in STDs and HIV cases. No one is using condoms or practicing safer sex. If people were, the STD and HIV rates would not be increasing, they'd be stable or even decreasing. Lots of those casual "no committment" sexual encounters are without the use of condoms. Even a couple of my good friends have admitted to not using condoms in the "throes of lust" or they're too snockered or drugged out to even think of condoms. The new HPV vaccine has also lead to complacency (I got the shot I don’t have to worry about getting anything so heck with condoms). I would hope someone of Alannis’ age had the smarts to pack a box of condoms and was sober for each of those dates not to mention making sure each guy had his “papers” (lab report that says he is STD and HIV-negative).

Do you know what I have realized about human nature? There are two things in this world that can be used to dehumanize someone. The first thing is violence. The second thing is sex. Sex is something that you can have with someone you don't even care about. You don't even have to like that individual. When you choose to feed, clothe and shelter someone as well as worry about how much sleep another person is getting, that means you care about that person. Sex is something that you can have with a sex object. That is what is happening in our world today. People see other people as sexual resources to exploit for thier use. Do most people even know what the definition of a sex object is? When you choose to objectify someone, you take everything that makes that person a person and compeletly remove those things. Sexual objectification is when you do the same thing to that person with the exception of sexual qualities which you use for your own desires. When you are done, you walk away from that person like you have thrown that person away like a peice of garbage. I think it's disturbing that young people thses days think that being a sex object - which in my opinion is degrading - is empowering. Also, it's not a question of whether men or women are doing it. It was degrading to begin with. Now that we have both sexes doing it, I guess that objectification goes both ways and everyone has an equal chance of being downgraded to a sex object.
