Batman Wins Again

joker.gif

Another weekend of dominance for The Dark Knight.

Despite stiff competition from The Mummy 3, the new Batman movie has once again come in as the #1 movie in America.

The Dark Knight took in another $44.8M this weekend, putting its total at $395.88M domestic.

Unfortunately for Brendan Frasier, his The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor performed worse than expected this weekend.

That film only took in $42.5M domestic, good enough for second place. The movie was projected to make $50 mill or more.

But, back to Batman!

If it keeps up at this pace, The Dark Knight is EASILY expected to gross upwards of at least $480 mill and put it up at #2 on the list of highest grossing domestic releases of all time, just behind Titanic.

    Dark Knight is AWESOME…♥

  21. ceec says – reply to this

    21

first, that is a freaky picture, 2nd-the Mummy 'ONLY' took in $42m-the studios would be estatic if most movies opened at $42m -alot only make that much before being doomed to video.

  22. Allie says – reply to this

    22

uhh Perez, I like the Dark Knight but it would have to sell out theaters for weeks and weeks to come to beat Titanic's 1.8 billion dollar gross.

  23. linz says – reply to this

    23

    that is really creepy perez

  24. ok says – reply to this

  31. andy says – reply to this

    31

i think it's more respectful to let the deceased really rest. why on earth do we still need a fake tirelessly moving image on a gossipy webpage that aims at nothing but sheer emptiness?! it takes someone sick to derive any pleasure from that

  32. sally says – reply to this

    32

this movie is so great, I saw it 2 times and I will see a 3 times. THe joker deserve an oscar.

  33. drea says – reply to this

  34. POO says – reply to this

    34

No way! I loved DArk Knight but it's nowhere near as epic as Titanic.

  35. ashle says – reply to this

  36. Ella says – reply to this

  37. NEWS says – reply to this

    37

Heath Ledger is ALIVE people! I saw him at the WinnDixie in Tampa the other day buying cookiedough!!! The studio had him "die" to make money off this movie! People are only watching it out of morbid curiousity! Don't be fooled! HE IS ALIVE!!!!

  38. 38

Not surprised!! It was a good movie

  39. danie says – reply to this

    39

OMG I SAW IT 3 TIMES AND I CANT GET ENOUGH!!
im in love with the joker

  40. Rak says – reply to this

    40

Re: sally – Not just an Oscar, but the Best Actor award, NOT the Best Supporting award. The Joker character was on screen longer than Batman, and Joker was the person who moved the story forward - Batman was more like a side character. Also, for the person complaining, the image is meant to portry the character, not the actor underneath the makeup and costume. No insult is intended.

  41. fred says – reply to this

    41

when adjusted for inflation Gone With the Wind is the highest grossing film of all time at 1.4 billion…. Titanic doesn't come close

  42. Danii says – reply to this

    42

Saw it last night for the 1st time. LOVED IT!!!!! Heath was AWESOME!

Going again next weekend!! Batman all the way!!

  46. 46

you should put loads more of gifs! btw, that picture of Heath clapping his hands creeps the hell outa me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. Donna says – reply to this

    47

I can't help but wonder if this movie would be raking in as many millions if Heath Ledger hadn't offed himself. People are flocking to it like rubberneckers to a train wreck.

  48. aj says – reply to this

    48

Re: Donna – that is a good point, but even if that's what got you there, (like you, I think peoples curiosity to see it, the ones who aren't big summer blockbuster fans, like me) it still kicks ass over any of the other Batmans before.

  49. Laure says – reply to this

    49

I say see it multiple times…the world needs The Dark Knight to beat Titanic for the highest grossing film.

  50. 50

OK that picture is WAYYYYY to friggin' creepy!

  51. Louby says – reply to this

  53. ytytu says – reply to this

    53

Heath was a great actor, and the role of the joker as pretty cool BUT the Dark Knight was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen, I had to force myself to watch most of it, could't even watch the last hour. It's overrated,

  54. sad says – reply to this

    54

I just saw it last night and it was AMAZING! I absolutely loved it! Heath's character was soooo creepy and he did such a good job at it! It's so sad that such a young actor had to pass away, his character was so unique, I can honestly say I have never seen anything so amazing and intriguing in a character before. He's awesome. He MUST MUST MUST win an oscar!

  55. 55

That animation is really really creepy!!! You scared the $$$hit outta me!

  56. jojo says – reply to this

    56

Wow, the industry keeps underestimating the power of these movies this summer. They thought SATC would open at a respectable #2, it doubled their estimates and beat Indy. They thought this would open big, but not as big as Spider-Man 3… beat it.

    I'm glad it topped again.

  57. Rich says – reply to this

    57

Congrats to "The Dark Knight"! However, I love how you grossly exaggerate things on your website, such as stating that "The Mummy 3" ONLY took in $42 million and performed worse than expected. I'd hardly call that a disappointing opening.

  58. Novel says – reply to this

    58

    What do you mean>??

Do you mean Domestic Box Office Gross or total Gross after Dvd releases?

You sound like an idiot because you're not being very clear.

  59. grus says – reply to this

    59

I went last weekend. I am very critical of movies and I liked it. The Joker was the darkest most evil joker that I have ever seen. I left the theatre saying wow! I wouldn't want that guy loose in my city.

  60. 60

I Luv the Dark Knight The Best Movie Ever!

  61. Ode t says – reply to this

    61

The accompanying picture to this article is hair raising! I simply cannot quit watching Ledger clapping his hands. God Bless his, Matilda, and Michelle's soul. Post mortem Oscar nods are bittersweet. RIP, Heath.

  62. 62

Very cool to post that "clapping frame"! Made my day :)

  70. tomca says – reply to this

    70

Even tho Brenden is in 2 moview out now, no one really cares about him. He looks like he aged 15 years in the past 5. And his hair looks so fake. He is trying too hard to look like his 'salad days'. When 40 y/o men try too hard to look 26, it's ridiculous.

  71. Amand says – reply to this

    71

Best movie of the year. hands down, it was fantastic. I have seen it 3 times already.

    Heath was very convincing.

  72. tomca says – reply to this

    72

Oh, and as long as inflation exists, Box Office records are going to keep on being "broken" until the end of time. In the next 10 years, when tickets cost 18-20$, there will be yet another 'world reocrd' BO, and on and on.

Yes, someone above stated GWTW would be #1 of all time if inflation is taken in account.

  73. vanes says – reply to this
