Such sad news.
Comedian Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia.
This was confirmed by his publicist.
He was only 50-years old.
As y'all know, the funny man had been hospitalized for about a week.
A few years ago, Mr. Mac disclosed that he suffered from sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs. However, his reps claimed early on that the bout of pneumonia he was fighting had nothing to do with the sarcoidosis.
He's survived by his wife Rhonda McCullough, their daughter, Je'Niece, a son-in-law and a granddaughter, Jasmine.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I think you saying he was on drugs was an honest mistake, we've all made assumptions that were not correct now and again. i guess you're just used to all the celebrities who use that disease as a code for drugs!!
RIP Bernie. You were a brilliant comic and a positive role model who helped many change and improve their lives. You will be missed.
I am somewhat skeptical of your best wishes Perez especially after you initially insinuated that the man had pneumonia because you believe he was on drugs. This is a man who had a legitimate history of illness. Next time can you just report the facts instead of putting in your prejudicial two cents.

I have to question the character of a man who attacks others on such deeply personal levels, without provocation and for self-benefit, monetary or otherwise….If he's emotionally incapable of exhibiting even the tiniest bit of compassion for closeted people, if he can't be sensitive to the fact that coming out is a very personal decision and that the process can be difficult for some — especially celebrities — I feel sorry for him. If Perez made the "pneumonia-is-code-for-drugs" comment on Lindsay Lohan, or Paris HIlton, or Wesley Snipes, etc. — ANYONE ELSE — you guys would be laughing right along, until they — oops! — DIE.

Perez's site has always held a lot of merit. There have been a few stories that were far-fetched and untrue, but the number of times Perez has broken a story far outweigh those few tremendously!
If his comments were made about any celebrity, as long as they didn't die, you would think it was funny. So you really need to chalk this up to one accidental, coincidental, off-color joke. Does attacking Perez make you feel any better? If you can't take a joke, and take an off-color comment with a grain of salt, then you really need to get a better grip on reality.
