Such sad news.
Comedian Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia.
This was confirmed by his publicist.
He was only 50-years old.
As y'all know, the funny man had been hospitalized for about a week.
A few years ago, Mr. Mac disclosed that he suffered from sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs. However, his reps claimed early on that the bout of pneumonia he was fighting had nothing to do with the sarcoidosis.
He's survived by his wife Rhonda McCullough, their daughter, Je'Niece, a son-in-law and a granddaughter, Jasmine.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I'm actually crying. First time I've ever cried for a dead celebrity. I loved his comedy. OMG…
Sooo sad. He is my favorite "Kang" of Comedy. He will be missed!

At the end of the year five minutes before a new year, I seriously think about the past 12 months and the next 12 months and just think about who died and who may die and it makes me realize that tomorrow isn't promised. You gotta live everyday to the fullest and take time to thank someone or something that you're able to get through the end of another day.

A journalist would apologise for false and flippant comments about the deceased's reason for his hospitalisation. Oh, and have his copy proof-read. And honour his promise to keep e-mail addresses private.
A blogger won't mention his tasteless error, convinced everyone will forget anything on the internet in two weeks, and won't mention the $25 million lawsuit launched because he and his deliberately posted someone's contact info.
I heard about this at 6 this morning and it put a damper on my day. My friend has sarcadosis and while she says it is nothing to get excited about, w still worry…
I hope his family knows how many laughs he gave his fans and how much he will be missed.

What a talent & what a loss. I find comfort that he's far from the pains of this world. He's moved on to fulfill a higher destiny. Earthly legacies seem so redundant, but his will live on as he will be remembered as not only an entertainer, but as a loving & devoted family man & friend.
It seems beneath him to use him as an example, but still this reminds us that celebs are humans too. It's so dirty & shameful that this is how we get our entertainment. I'm just as guilty of it, but it puts things into perspective. I won't throw stones at Perez. He lives for reaction & we give in. Luckily from time to time he's exposed for who he really is, & we get to see what we're becoming. I'm sure this isn't my last post (can't quit cold turkey). However, I think it's time to think about the big picture & find entertainment that doesn't rely on the shortcomings of others. If you don't believe in God, believe in Karma. I doubt either one are smiling kindly on our sick obsessions.

This is such sad and tragic news. I always enjoyed watching his show and one of my favorite movies was Guess Who?. He reminded me so much of one of former co-workers. Sending my heartfelt condolences to his family. Such a sad loss.

His rep said, "Mr. Mac is responding well to treatment and will be released soon. He asked that his privacy and that of his family is respected while he gets well."
The rep went on to explain that the pneumonia is not related to Mac's diagnosis of sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in organs such as the lungs or lymph nodes.
The Ocean's 13 star has been in remission from sarcoidosis since 2005.

There could have been tact that pneumonia was a cover-up for "drugs". Seriously. Have you had pneumonia? Is it even an excuse associated with drugs? NO. Do you know of any drug problems he's had? NO. Me neither.

Sarcoidosis had everything to do with his pneumonia. If you know anything bout the disease, it would have left him very susceptible to the disease and would have probably caused the compilations. Sarcoidosis doesn't go into remission and it isn't curable. It's a horrible chronic, systematic disease that can affect all of your organs, nervous system, heart, joints and muscles. That fact that Bernie has the disease and was able to accomplish everything him did and live life somewhat normally is a testimate to his optimistic attitude and strong family network. Completely heart broken. Bernie Mac, unlike some celebrities, will be sorely missed by more people than I think anyone could ever imagine. Perez, your post about him suggesting he was in the hospital for drug use went too far and though you aren't, you should be completely ashamed. When I heard that he did die, I lost my breath and knew that the world had just suffered a tremendous loss. When you die, will anyone fell that way?

I woke up to sad sad news today, you're gone. Bernie was one of the best comedians, he always made me laugh even when my day was going like sh*t. He will be missed and there is a huge hole in the comedy world now and Chris Rock said it better than I could. I have respiratory problems and nearly died of pneumonia too so this hits me so friggin' hard. I just hope Bernie is having a blast up there with George Carlin and all the rest of the great performers that moved on to another world. Luv and sympathy to Bernie's family.

My heart goes out to Bernie Mac's friends and family. This hits very close to home as the disease runs in my family.
I lost an uncle in 1996 to the disease at the age of 38, and my aunt who is 50 had a double lung transplant in april of this year. Doctors know little about the disease and how to treat it. The prescribe steroids..but a cure…or remission…I doubt it. Upon my uncle's death..they said at his 38 years, he had the heart of a 90 year old. By the grace of God, my aunt got a donor in time…and she's not in the clear yet, but we'll keep praying.
