China's Opening Ceremony Lies

reddress.jpg

There was no need to fake!

Beijing's Olympics Games Opening Ceremony would have been brilliant without some of the faking shiz that's now coming to light.

When we heard about the fake fireworks bruhaha, in our minds we gave China a 'pass' because of the 'safety' excuse issued.

But the latest scandal that has emerged has wound us up!

Remember that little girl in red (left photo) who 'sang' and captured our hearts?

Well, turns out she was lip synching!

Apparently, the 'real' singer (pictured to the right) wasn't cute enough to perform.

A Chinese official said, "The main consideration was the national interest. The child on the screen should be flawless in image, in her internal feelings, and in her expression."

It just doesn't seem right for a government to be all "Hollywood".

The U.S. would have let a less cute, better singer take center stage at a national event, right?

awwww i think she (the REAL singer) is adorable. poor thing now she will probably deal with shit all her life not feeling good enough. that is a fucked up thing to do to such an easily influenced mind. :(

  2. 102

Either way, they both did a great job. It takes a lot of courage to even lip sync in front of that many people. At least it was a good show. I mean look at stars like Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson, and others… they were caught lip syncing while on stage. I think the girl in the red dress did a good job for a little kid.

I don't know why people's always pointing to the Chinese government when something goes wrong. Olympics is supervised by the Olympics committee. When something like this happens, automatically, people start criticizing Chinese people and their government. I'm sure 95% of the critics don't even know how the Chinese government works. I don't understand how people can link this to Communism. Feel free to enlighten me.

  3. 103

"The U.S. would have let a less cute, better singer take center stage at a national event, right?"…YES, AMERICA WOULD LET A LESS CUTER CHILD TO SING BECAUSE THE RATIO OF LESS CUTER KIDS IN USA IS HIGHER THAN THE CUTE ONES. ITS HARD TO FIND CUTE KIDS IN THE STATES. THEY ARE ALL HEAVY! CHINESE KIDS ARE GENERALLY CUTE, ALMOST ALL, THEY WILL NOT ALLOW A SINGLE "ACUTE" ONE TO RUIN THAT IMAGE.

  4. 104

"The U.S. would have let a less cute, better singer take center stage at a national event, right?"
Fucking Americans and their belief that they are the measure for all other nations to follow.
who gives a shit what america would have done?
this is CHINA dickhead. not america

  5. 105

I could see she was lip synching. Not surprised at all.

  6. 106

the other little girl is just as cute to me. ou could totally tell she was lipsynching though. whatevvvver its not a big deal

  7. 107

wow thats fucked up. i wonder what they told the real singer that she couldn't perform.

"The U.S. would have let a less cute, better singer take center stage at a national event, right?"

    WRONGGGGGGG

  9. 109

The little girl who was the real singer was most probs just SHY and couldn't perform like the acress could, China did the best opening americans are just so full of envy, thats the only thing green about them.

  10. 110

aww i think the ohter little girl is cute too….FUCK CHINA!

  11. meme says – reply to this

    111

The real singer is adorable. Shame on China once again. This time for making a little girl feel like crap. I wonder what they will do wrong tomorrow.

  12. 112

Wow, that is one of the saddest, dumbest things . . . Poor girl. As for the US, well, "ugly people" don't get recording contracts at all these days, while untalented pretty girls like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears (back then) fill the airwaves, so . . . you tell me, perez.

  13. 113

um.. ashlee simpson. ring a bell?
please, united states is the plastic-iest of them all.
granted this whole situation has been incredibly unfair to the little girl with the talent, but please, don't bother pretend you'd do any better.
hollywood is shallow as a tidal pool, tanning salon, botox, triple d boobs?
stop being such a self-righteous hypocrite.

  14. midi says – reply to this

    114

the US is guilty of its own lypsincing crap–but i don't think at such important events.

  15. 115

I think the girl on the right is cuter…The one on the left scares the shit out of me…

  16. midi says – reply to this

    116

    Re: savoytruffle

you got that right, china the sleeping dragon is awake–and ready to take the position as the next super power.

  17. coco says – reply to this

    117

Oh this is why I don't watch the Olympics. I can't sit and watch a show and support it in a Country who doesn't even support Human Rights. It's like if the Nazis wanted to host the Olympics. Why anyone even bothered to watch this crock of shit is beyond me.

  18. 118

They look very similar to me… both are cute!

I think U.S. would try to find a kid who sing good and look cute…

    Not so hard

  19. 119

WTF you can't even trust a chink! The little girl that sang she is adorable. See the little girl that lip sang she's got looks but can't sing! The chinks are fucked up.

  20. 120

This would never happen in America, simply because this is the country of lawsuits. Someone would definately sue over that. Besides, here, "ugly" is cute for kids. Like in Little Miss Sunshine. . . that is a cute girl, and they fugged her out for the role, and somehow, it made her cuter! :) We don't try to hide ugly until someone is at least 15. . . like Perez calling Demi's daughter "potato head". That's just as wrong, right?

  21. 121

It just doesn't seem right for a government to be all "Hollywood".

The U.S. would have let a less cute, better singer take center stage at a national event, right?>>

said the man who gives women NO END OF SHIT for having cellulite. yeah, his integrity is incredible…

  22. 122

This is wrong on so many levels. IMO, worse than the deception, is how being replaced with a "flawless" girl made the real singer feel. To be told you have to remain in the background because you are not pretty enough and let someone else take credit for your talent is a blow to self esteem, especially at that young age. China wouldn't give a rat's ass about that though. I hope this little girl, who is adorable btw, gets the credit she deserves.

  23. 123

Something is seriously wrong with China!! Yang is beautiful! There was absolutely no reason to put in Liang to lipsync. THIS IS YET ANOTHER HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE THAT CHINA HAS. When will they get their act together and get with the program???????????????????//

  24. 124

Not surprising at all from a country with their massive human rights violations. Don't be shocked if they put kids to death who aren't cute or smart enough.

  25. 125

Because no American performer has ever lip-synced before (Milli Vanilli, Ashlee Simpson, Mariah Carey…) Right…Why are we holding the Chinese to a different standard?

  26. lukey says – reply to this

    126

That's awful! That poor little girl!
    I think she's cute!

  27. 127

Maybe the one that faked it could not sing as well. Remember singing in the
rain! How Kathy had to sing for that brat movie star. Then the dame wanted it to go on forever. NOT! I hope the real singer becomes a big hit in her country.
Shame they had to do that. Wonder how the closing will go.

  28. 128

    that's fucked up! damn china

  29. 129

Except for the ponytails they look exactly alike.

  30. 130

Is anyone else boycotting the Olympics? I'm not watching this crap, especially now…

  31. 131

NO. The US would have PASSED on BOTH girls and found someone who was both Cute and could sing.

  32. JET says – reply to this

    132

At first, I thought the image on the right was one of Miley Cyrus' photos as a child

  33. 133

honestly, i thought the girl to the left was pretty creepy.
the real singer is actually cuter. *cept for the teeth* but every little kid as those.

  34. 134

Communism is what people in the USA strive for… HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ALL.
Dubbing is a Hollywood product. Remember "My Fair Lady"?
In the perfect world of communism, everyone is treated equal because everyone gets the same portion of cake. However, in the capitalistic world, you get different share of cake base on your ABILITY AND OUTLOOK. The more handsome/beautiful a person looks, the more money he/she earns. This is a capitalistic idea.
You guys want communism but you just dare not to say the communism.

  35. 135

Well, the other girl IS cuter, fer shizzle.

Who cares anyway…it's China's Olympics, they can do what they want! It's a communist country…like anyone thought they wouldn't pull stuff like this?

    Dull.

  36. 136

    perez,
    .
America would absolutely do the same thing… and it would not be such an issue… they would just spin it in a different way.

  37. 137

"The US would have PASSED on BOTH girls and found someone who was both Cute and could sing."

This blog wouldn't exist at all.

  38. 138

Its not the Government that set this all up. it is a famous Chinese director that had a budget of 300 million that tried to make it as flawless as possible. just think of it like zac efron in HSM I.

  39. Galen says – reply to this

    139

What is the Chinese symbol for Milli Vanilli

  40. 140

If the US can find both the beautiful and talented, why do this blog exist????
If every star in the US were that perfect and talented,
you would have nothing to laugh at.
Communist is a very very good idea.
Why do people in Hollywood earn the amount of money that you couldn't earn in your whole lifetime? Why are they so special?? Look at this blog. They aren't special at all. They're nothing if they aren't packaged.

Capitalism kills lots of people too. Poor is a capital punishment when you get serious illness. Foreclosure is also a torture.

  41. 141

I disagree. Considering the fact that America is completely Hollywood focused, they wouldn't of even had a non pretty girl sing in the first place, they would've picked someone pretty from the get go and tune up her voice in the beginning.

  42. 142

Are you fuck!ng serious! She is as cute as a button!

  43. 143

This is absolutely NO shocker! China has the wool pulled over everyone's eyes. Those poor people.

  44. 144

thats honestly like, realllly fucked up.

  45. 145

The opening ceremony is directed by Zhang Yimao.
You should treat it as a movie instead.
"My Fair Lady" is regarded as a great movie even though Audrey Hepburn didn't sing.
At least the Chinese government give credit to the real singer.
Both girls are lovely but the "signer" is prettier. Most East Asian would agree.
I understand that Westerners can't tell the differences.

  46. 146

"Considering the fact that America is completely Hollywood focused, they wouldn't of even had a non pretty girl sing in the first place, they would've picked someone pretty from the get go and tune up her voice in the beginning"
That real singer is 7 years old but she's already in a SECONDARY SCHOOL for singing professionals. She's too talented to miss. The real singer is now world famous. If she wasn't picked just because she wasn't get the whole package. She had no chance at all.
People, please don't blame the other girl. She's very cute. It wasn't her decision.

  47. 147

OMG! That is so rude. But, in a way, it dosen't surprise me.

  48. 148

"When we heard about the fake fireworks bruhaha, in our minds we gave China a 'pass' because of the 'safety' excuse issued."

    "Safety" -
The fireworks are all real. TV crews couldn't film on helicopters because everyone is scare of the 911 incident again.

Even if Hu Jin Tao didn't care, the Bush family would care.

  49. 149

So many bigotry and prejudices and racial slurs in here.
    WW3 is coming.

  50. 150

awww the little girl is so cute! how could they do that to her!

I disagree with the ppl that say the US would do the same shallow thing…how about the US glamourizing Will Hung and Tina Chen??

Goofy-looking and talentless people get glorified in this country!

  51. 151

This is like so SMELLY CAT!!!

  52. 152

i think that other girl is cute anyway! it's really sick cos that girl is going to have such low self esteem in life!!

  53. 153

    Re: moneyshot – Shitney Smears.

  54. 154

that's what chinese do. make all fake and pretty

  55. 155

    William Hung wasn't glorified.
He was NOTORIOUS because he was weird looking and suited the image of western stereotype of Chinese.

  56. Anonymous says – reply to this

    156

Flawless in her internal feelings? WTF? That's a lot of pressure to put on a child!

China did these Olympics because they wanted international attention. So now we can all see what China's really like, good and bad.

I can't even believe I'm about to say this, but I think G.W. Bush is finally doing something good by calling out China on their issues while he's on this trip.

  57. 157

    Re: ahlmkim02

I guess Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Ashlee Simpson and Hohan are very real.

  58. huc says – reply to this

    158

US would get the, less than perfect, child plastic surgery.

  59. 159

This is so sad!! I told my friends that girl was lip syncing when we were watching this (it was super obvious)…but I thought she would be lip synching to her own recording. I can't imagine how heart-broken the little singer must be.

  60. 160

This is just pathetic. I would like to think the U.S. wouldn't do something like this, but I think instead of having someone lip sync they would just choose someone cuter to sing.

  61. 161

Only an idiot would not know she was lip synching. Even Stevie Wonder would know.
Is this some big national disgrace? Seems kinda petty.

  62. 162

    C-O-M-M-U-N-I-S-T

please why is anyones surprised by this. I was more surprised they digitally put in some of the fireworks. Weren't they the country that invented them?

  63. 163

Poor kid. That lipsynching chick looked a bit scary to me, though. I mean, her smile was just… too… smiley… D:

  64. 164

The little girl that originally sang the song is absolutely adorable. Shame on China..but what's new?

  65. 165

so horrible. I would hope that we wouldn't do that in our country, but you know how obsessed we are with beautiful people here.

  66. 166

imho the girl on the right is adorable and far cuter than the other girl. The other girl looks like an anime carachter. Thats totally wrong for china to do such crap, poor girls the both of them, what a message to the one on the left your cute but you have no talent and the girl on the right you have talent but your not cute! UGH these are girls who will grow up to be women, poor girls they deserve better.

  67. 167

the kid in the left looks freaky as heck… I hated what happened in this, poor girl (the right one), and she isn't even ugly.

  68. 168

Re: I Love Lamp – Racist.

  69. 169

Thats so stupid! The girl on the right iz also cute! China iz so dumb, they treat their people the way an abusive controling husben does his wife. So pointless to have a stand in for that girl.

  70. 170

OMG THE OTHER GIRL IS JUST AS SWEET!

THAT'S A BLOODY STUPID THING TO DO!

  71. 171

China's version of Hollyweird's and New York lip singer Love you long time!

  72. 172

Are you kidding me? We the shallowest of them all. We would have made the uglier girl have plastic surgery at five.

  73. Pezzy says – reply to this

    173

The girl on the left might be a little cuter, but does the Chinese government really think that American viewers would be able to tell the difference? Come on — I still have trouble distinguishing Lisa Ling from Lucy Lu. An Asian is an Asian. Case closed.

  74. 174

How do you know if one chinese is better looking than another??? they all look the same only in different sizes!

  75. 175

What's the big deal. Of course America would have done the same thing. Their entire entertainment industry thrives on deception. Ashlee Simpson/ Britney Spears? And the opening ceremonies were thrilling, America would never be able to pull off something that amazing and grand. PLUS the girl in the ceremonies is MUCH prettier and cuter. The real singer is cute too, but no way as cute as the "faker". Don't give me that crap that all kids are cute. I SEE UGLY KIDS EVERYDAY.

  76. 176

    aww how sad

  77. 177

No. America would have a terrible singer who was cute. And probably also lip synching because they can't really sing live :)

  78. 178

Oh please. In the US we care a LOT more about appearance than talent. How else can you explain the shiteous Shania Twain?

  79. 179

when a five year old girl sings that good, it would make her cute! thats ridiculous. china just lost like 10 cool points.

  80. Jenji says – reply to this

    180

The US would definitely do the same, if they haven't already. At least China is admitting their mistakes, whereas anyone in the States would have just tried to cover it up more. You Americans are so bloody self-righteous.

What I found completely hilarious is your ignorance and the fact that you are all surprised by this. The Olympics is one of the biggest corporate funded events, of course it's going to be all about image and what's accepted at face value.

  81. 181

I believe I heard that the singer is 7 and the lip-syncher is 9. Almost ALL 7 year olds look 'goofy' … their teeth are 1/2 in and 1/2 out, they are in the middle of 'baby-fat' and they pretty much don't care about being perfect (would that we could all remember to be 7!). 9 year olds are loosing the baby-fat, have their teeth are slimming down in their face and have more poise. I understand there was a huge contest to pick the winner/singer. SHAME on China for letting the 7 year old 'win' if they wanted a 9 year old in looks. What will that poor little 7 year old grow up thinking about herself. WRONG, WRONG and CRUEL!

  82. 182

Re: refreshe1 fake fireworks. As I watching it, I'm pretty sure they mentioned that more than once
The press said that NBC did mention it, but most country's TV stations did not … thus the feeling that it was kept secret.

  83. 183

It's really sad that they would do that to a small child…. If they can do it to her… PLEASE do it to Mariah Carey!!! That bitch is FUGLY!!! Sick of seeing her fat chipmunk cheeks, bad eyebrows & clothes that a 20 year old should be wearing, not a 38 year old…. Poor little chinese teenie…. Send her my way, I will adopt her & give her love. Don't the chinese hate girls anyway???

  84. 184

Umm Perez darling, if you had of actually watched the ceremony it was pretty damn obvious that she wasnt really singing, she couldnt lip synch for shit…

  85. 185

China sucks on every level, I wish they would all die already.

  86. 186

Wow. That's really crappy of them to snub the real singer because she wasn't "pretty enough" to represent her country.

  87. 187

Thinking in terms of more or less cute is wrong!!!

"The U.S. would have let a less cute, better singer take center stage at a national event, right?" —–> still typical for the U.S. to think that a child is 'less cute'….

  88. 188

this comment coming from the guy who makes a living out of pointing out the flaws of celebrities. I think we all know that aesthetics are what get you ahead in life.

  89. 189

What's wrong with the little girl on the right who really sang??? She looks fine to me. Maybe the Chinese officials were scared of her being too "round-eyed" looking, the little girl on the left is cute but has clearly more typical Chinese features. They both have the flatter faces common in the Chinese.

  90. 190

Brings new meaning to the term "saving face." My husband was in the military in Japan and says the "saving face" thing is big in all the Asian countries and cultures, but the Chinese are especially big with it. I remember when that Chinese pilot was hotdogging around one of the US military jets back in 2001 and they held our people captive for a while. I was watching the return of the US folks on TV with my friend, who had been to China and she mentioned something about saving face, to which her grandpa replied, "How about I shove a pie in their face?"

  91. 191

um china actually wants to include as much children participating in the ceremony as possible

and especially they're honest about it
they had a big segment in the major chinese news channel about this girl

  92. 192

Re: soplas – Not necessarily. Koreans are a mix so some of them look more Chinese while others look more Japanese. For example, comedienne Margaret Cho and actress Grace Park (from "Battlestar Galactica") are both Korean, but Margaret looks more Chinese as she has a flatter face while Grace looks more Japanese to me, her face is not as flat. The Japanese also tend to have a bit darker skin tone, while the Chinese have paler, more yellow complexions.

  93. 193

Maybe the US shouldn't take the moral high ground on this …. they would likely showcase the less good singer who had the cute image.

  94. 194

It was pretty obvious as the lip synching as she couldn't probably have sang with that smile so big. Since the girl on the right is also as pretty, they probably used another girl to make sure that she won't be frightened at that big big stage.

  95. 195

Doesn't anyone ever think that the singer was not ready? And that the lip syncher was there because she could stand in front of that many people (and smile that wide while at it)? That could make one cry. (It would probably scare the hell out of me)

  96. 196

people need to stop worrying about how they look so much…that poor little girl…what did they tell her? she must have wondered why she wasnt the one performing…there's so much more to life than "looking good" and we should be teaching that to our little girls so we dont have problems like bulemia and anorexia and even suicide because of it

  97. 197

I am a Canadian who worked in China for 4 years, and I have to say, I am not surprised at all. Outward appearances are a HUGE thing for Chinese culture, and time and time again I have seen things like this happen. They don't want foreigners to see poor people, so they forbid foreigners to enter slums/poor villages. Rather than fix things, they like to put on a facade for the world…it's true in their media, their censorship, their movies, their schools…everywhere. They just do not understand how, culturally, the rest of the world will react to such things. I'm quite sure that they saw absolutely nothing wrong with what they had done. After all, it was in the country's 'best national interest', which somehow makes it all okay in their eyes. They've lived with their fakery for so long, that it's become part of their culture and they see nothing wrong with it.

  98. D-Bag says – reply to this

    198

Good for them. The chink on the right has wonky-ass teeth. The one one the left (who "performed") is much cuter!

  99. 199

Although it's sad America would have done the same damn thing.

  100. 200

We all know the Chinese are like that, hence the pirated DVDs and shit.
This makes China such a disgrace, and makes any of them look like fools.
