Tropic Tanker

Did the protests work?

According to early reports, the big budget film Tropic Thunder won't make back what it cost to make in its first full weekend out.

Thunder opened this Wednesday to $7.5 million, that's just 40% of what Pineapple Express made in its Wednesday debut last week.

The film is expected to pull in $41 million tops this weekend, well below expectations.

Thunder cost about $100 million to make. Express only cost about a quarter of that at $27 million.

And, unlike the stoner movie, when surveyed ladies revealed they aren't really interested in seeing Tropic Thunder.

Inneresting!

Are YOU going to seeTropic Thunder?

    Re: YepIsaidit
Yah, Ima girl too, and this movie looks VERY funny.

  3. 103

As a former ASSistant to Mr. Stiller, Hell No!!!!!

  4. 104

i saw this last night with a bunch of girl friends, i think this movie was BETTER than pineapple express becuase of the awesome cast and it was funnier throughout the movie vs. pineapple only being funny at certain points. the theater was packed and sold out

  5. 105

Ben Stiller is old and irrelevant.
    So ten years ago.

  6. 106

It was the funniest fucking movie i have ever seen! fuck all the protest. if people cannot take a joke then fuck em!

  7. 107

completely dissapointed. it wasnt bad, but it wasn't what the hype made it out to be. don't waste the money, see Pineapple Express instead!

me and my mom went to the movies when it premiered, and The Dark Knight was sold out so i was gonna see it, but honestly i knew my mom would not like it, and frankly, im not at all interested in this "film" (and i had free tickets so imagine).

Good luck to Ben Stiller, cause he's hella funny, but this doesn't appeal to me in the least bit!!!

  9. 109

I went and saw it on the opening night and while at first I was like "This is not a chick's film…" and thought of various ways to make my escape, it turned out to be really bloody hilarious by the end of it. I was rolling!

  10. 110

im a girl, i saw it, i loved it, i was interested in it ..

Nope, I'm taking a stand against ignorant hateful words. And to all the hypocrites saying get over it, it's just a joke. Go call a homosexual a f** or a Black person a N**** and tell them it's just a joke and find out how funny they think it is. If you called a person with down syndrome a R***** they'd probably just give you a hug. Think hateful terms toward innocent people are funny? The joke is on you.

  12. 112

UGH……I wont see it in theatres or on DVD. I normally like Ben Stiller but i'm not at all interrested in seeing this crap. Stoner Express i feel the same way about, for the pot head's im sure it will be fantastic but i'm not lighting up a doobie and watching it. Im not into stoner comedy's….

  13. 113

most good movies don't get such bad press.

  14. 114

This movie does not look appealing in any sort of way to me. Or to anyone that I know for that matter.

  15. 115

It was really disappointing! There were one or two humorous bits in it but for the majority of the film it was just stupid, unfunny banter which became boring after about 10 minutes. I really wanted it to be good too, especially being a fan of Stiller.

  16. 116

This movie was surprisingly funny. It was meant to poke fun at actors, and be satirical in all aspects. If you don't get that, you won't like it. I, however, strongly believe Mr. Tom Cruise might have redeemed himself as a legitimate and LIKEABLE actor, with this movie. Gasp.

  17. 117

I saw it last night…SERIOUSLY THE FUNNIEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN!! I'll definitely be going to see it again!

  18. 118

Lame. It is lame. Saw it. Not funny. Should have seen Mirrors!

  19. 119

    Totally wanna see it!

  20. 120

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA GOOOOOD, I'M HAPPY IT TANKED.

  21. 121

Re: phoenix_scribe – Well said and I agree.

  22. 122

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT. Especially Tommy Boy dancing at the end. He is totally make fun of what ya'll said about him when he was dancing at a concert with Katie. Yeah, he can't dance, but he can dance his ass all the way to the bank. I loved that he was a chubby, hairy, bald, executive producer. That movie was funny and classic Stiller. He just like to rip on everyone and make fun of how everyone takes themselves so seriously. It's comedy/parody. I loved it and will be seeing it again. Alpha Chino. hhahahhahahah. i heard people thought Al Pacino was in the movie. another great send up by Stiller. and the trailers of other movies in the beginning. you gotta know comedy and be at least slightly intelligent to get this stuff folks.

  23. 123

Watched it on opening day already, and it was okay.
There are some really HIGHlarious moments though.
Go watch it if you like spending money people!!

  24. 124

Absolutely going to see this - looks hilarious! Step Brothers was better than Pineapple Express…

  25. 125

    Re: phoenix_scribe
What about when the Wayans brothers were in white-face and made fun of white people in White Chicks? As a white person, I wasn't offended because I know it's a movie…and I don't have to see it.

  26. 126

I saw this at an advanced screening, and I'm seeing it again this weekend with my friends. It was absolutely hilarious, and that's being restrained about it. I haven't heard from anyone that Pineapple Express was better than Tropic Thunder, and Tropic Thunder is all about making fun of the film industry, which I LOVED.

  27. 127

    Yeees I am.

  28. 128

I saw it. It was f**%$! hilarious. I am absolutely seeing it again….

  29. 129

I actually saw this movie last night. It was really funny. I loved it. It even had fake previews that were funny as well. And the thing about the mentally challenged talk was really how Ben Stiller said it was. It was making fun of actors who portray those characters in order to win Oscars. Check this film out it was hilarious.

  30. 130
