Younger competitors have an advantage. If they didnt… dont you think China would have used age appropriate competitors?!?! They have 4 times the population as the US… you cant tell me that they couldn't find a team of six individuals of the appropriate age!!!
Younger is an advantage because of physics…younger = smaller = easier movement between the bars, a faster rotation and less required strength to achieve needed torque.
The IOC has become quite a disappointment.. and will be the end of the Olympics and what they once stood for. Screw being "loyal" to the host country, the rest of the world has to abide by the rules, why doesnt China?!?! If the IOC had a smidgen of decency and pride in what the Olympics stands for they would investigate this further. Will they? Probably NOT! They dont have the balls to humiliate the host country… instead they choose to humiliate themselves and the olympic dream.

It does matter that it will affect her growth, but again, she most probably has been doing this since she was 3 and knows the consequences!

Yes they were great, however, there are rules that everyone must obide by. Every other team had members that were 16 and older. If China did not, they broke the rules, plain and simple, and should be punished for it, regardless of how they did. To lie about their ages, and have them lie about their ages is wrong…all in the name of winning. it is pretty disgusting. And girls their age are still growing, and competing like that can cause serious skeletal damage, hence the rule that was put in place.

Duh of course theyre young. Look at the glittery faces and the girly colorful hair clips. Thats not something a 16 year old girl does. Something more like a 13 or 14 year old girl would do.
No one is going to do a thing about this. If you think that the IOC would strip those medals from China while the Olympics are going on you're smoking something. They would probably napalm the olympic village and then explain it by telling us a flaming ball of gas fell from the sky. Then they would, of course, doctor some pictures to give to all the newspapers to corroborate the story.
The IOC should take this seriously enough to investigate the sources offered by Huffington. If there is any truth to it, the Chinese should be stripped of their medal. Cheating should not be tolerated in any form - if the IOC stripped a gold medal from Andreea Raducan for cold medicine in Sydney, they absolutely should do the same for this.

Unless you're 100% sure this is true you shouldn't broadcast this to people to believe what could be fraudulent information. Asian people look young for their age. I'm asian and people think i'm a few years younger than i really am. These girls work hard and it is not as if they are taking steroids. I've always thought the minimum age of athletes competing in like the Olympics and the Worlds should be at least 17 or 18. It is interesting how the IOC isn't raelly checking this out, but they're throwing out drug users left and right. So yeah, IOC better step up and really check each and every athlete's age, cos we can't be having 14 year olds taking golds!
Ummmm- the Chinese steal all the technology they can- including making off with medical equipment from teams that come to help them- not to mention all the software they steal. I was on a medical team that they stole very expensive heart surgery euipment from- refused to let it back out of the country!. They have NO qualms about lying to make themselves look good. I'm sure that the Chinese are not the only country to have hosted the Olympics and have varying slip ups. Its incredibly ungrateful and bitchy to pick at every little detail. The games are still interesting to watch and China provided the venue for the games this year. Get over it. Who cares how old she is, the entire Chinese team outperformed the American team. Well, we really can't blame a bunch of 13 or 14 year old girls. We have to blame the Chinese coaches and the officials who allowed this to continue. I think the Chinese coaches should be fired and the medals that were won by Chinese underage competitors should be taken away and given to the real winners. Silver gets gold, bronze gets silver, and a new person gets bronze. Cheating is not fair…period. No rewards for that.
I loved watching her routine — if she was doping or doing roids then I say take away the medal, but why strip this girl of her accomplishment? She flipped her heart out!

I believe as much as anyone else that these girls are too young. Unfortunately, for anyone who knows anything about legitimate research (academic, journalistic, whatever) knows that an article isn't a legitimate source of information when trying to prove something. They have to dig up the real stuff somehow if they ever think they are going to prove it. Besides, the articles could have lied and said they were 14 when they were actually 12 and the lie just wasn't good enough.
To be fair, a lot of Asian ppl look younger than they are. My roommate is chinese (straight from china) and she looks 16, and she's 21. Ppl here are judging her on what it is looks like to be 16 in America.

In all fairness to the Ben Johnson comment, 4 out of the 5 top place runners in that event tested positive for doping but only his medal was taken away, yes even Carl Lewis tested positive for banned substances. So the IOC was corrupt then and and still is now,the Olympics is turning into a joke.

obviously the chinese gymnasts look very young, its a given. but thats the only team the americans have put their attention on. has anyone even thought to glance at their own gymnasts? look at shawn johnson for example, standing at 4' 9", 1 inch taller than He Kexin. the only reason she looks older is because she's covered her face in bronzer and lined her eyes with eye liner. people need to consider everyone as an equal first before putting blame on people. its so unfair for the chinese girls that are scrutinzed for their age because they looked so young when there are so many other gymnast out there at the olympics that look so similar.

Speaking as an American citizen who's traveled extensively in China.
1. Most Chinese girls don't look their age, in fact, the 30 year olds look more like 12 year olds…… jealous….
2. Working in media has taught me to be aware of the biases of both the western and eastern media. I've also learned that the western media is quick to criticize/accuse non-western countries of almost anything, and also vice versa.
As a westerner with some insight into eastern society, I think it would be wise to refrain from judgment until hard facts, not internet facts, surface and reveal the truth.

I believe the sport is referred to as WOMEN'S gymnastics, and as we know, WOMEN are not 12, I mean, 14 according to the committee. So, that is why the Chinese cheated because they used a 12, I mean, 14 year old girl, not an 18 year old young woman; they knew they were effing up when they put her up there. If they want to put 12, damn, 14 year olds up to professional gymnastics, they should have their own category, but it damn sure isn't a WOMAN category…
The proof is her passport. If it’s accurate or not, that's up for debate. However, a passport is a legal document and is accepted as proof of age.
There are rules, but I don't think age should really matter. If a 12 year old or a 14 year old has the talent and discipline to compete… than let it be. Age should not be a requirement for sports. There is no body contact, so no injury will happened if a 12 year old goes up against an 18 year old. Take away the age requirements for non-contact sports. Regardless of age, the China gymnasts are extremely talented.
I wouldn't say she "cheated", it's not like she took drugs. It was all her skill, but she did do wrong by not admitting her true age.
But let's not forget Nadia Comnaveci, who was the first gymnast to get a perfect score of 10 at the 1976 Barcelona Olympics, and she was only 14.
Age is nothing but a number.
