As we previously mentioned, Harry Potter bosses, Warner Bros. moved the new Potter movie's release date from November 2008 to Summer 2009, much to the disappointment of Potter fanatics.
Well, something's come up that should cheer up you 'fantasy' film fans!
It's just been announced that Twilight is opening earlier — from December 2008 to 11/21/08.
Yay!

No, thanks…I'll pass. I would rather watch Harry Potter, than a clone of 'Interview With A Vampire', or the recently canned vampire series (I believe it was on CBS. I can't even recall the name, since it didn't last very long).
What is with all of the Twilight to Harry Potter comparisons Perez?
They are two completely different stories with totally different story lines. Some will prefer one and some will prefer the other. I've read both series so I'm not someone just complaining about something I haven't read or anything, but the Twilight series failed to remain consistent and the Harry Potter series stayed very consistent through out in the quality of the books. Breaking Dawn was a sick joke. I am a fan of both series, but I doubt I will go see the new twilight movie on the earlier release just because that studio is no better than Warner Brothers. They're doing it so they can get the Potter money.
Harry Potter fans have been called the most devout in the world and Twilight is really only big in the US…without a worldwide fan base the film will fail to register elsewhere. I think that they will be severely disappointed that they have moved their date, but Warner Brothers should be too.
This industry is all about greed…but there is no comparison between the two because the story lines have absolutely NOTHING in common. One is a love story between a mortal and a vampire, the other is a story of a boy wizard and his friends trying to fight evil and save the wizarding world. Quit comparing.
the harry potter movies suck. they put the books to shame. yes…the twilight books might be nothing more than a pre-teen, over dramatic love story, but at least the movie can't possibly ruin the books. the harry potter books ARE AMAZING, and anyone who watches the movies without reading the books is retarded. once you read the books, you see how much the harry potter movies suck..
Blah!!! the only movie i like better than potter is Narnia….J.K is an amazing writing no one is going to take harry potter's place in my opinion…..when twilight gets this press worldwide then i'll be convinced that book doesn't have that status yet.
Re: veelabelleza – hey, don't generalize "all you people".. I truly enjoy both series of books and am more than aware that he was in "Goblet of Fire" and is now Edward. The guy scored. (and sometimes I think he's beautiful and in other shots.. not so much.. he kinda goes two ways depending on the view). Anyway, no generalizing please. I love both and am happy with both coming out (in due time).
One other thing that is not in response to veelabelleza.. I think it's getting ridiculous (though not shocking) that this war over the two are getting so political in fever. If you love both, great. If you think Harry is best, awesome. Twilight is more your cup of tea? grand! I don't see the point in beating each other up and making proclamations that are purely opinion over something that is SUPPOSED to just be entertainment and bring joy to people. Like what you like, live and let live.

Oh my gosh — can everyone flipping quit the comparison already???? the ONLY things similar b/w the two are that 1. they're both series and 2. mythical creatures…nothing alike…and it is possible to like both — my gosh…and while i can't WAIT until Twilight comes out (yay for the bumping up) i still don't think it's going to do as good as HP — HP has way more guy fans and is way more popular internationally versus Twilight which is more popular in the US and its biggest fan base are girls…

The Twilight series books could have been written by a 12 year old. The language is simplistic, the story line predictable, and the writing mocks the intelligence of teenagers. JK Rowling writes with insight and creativity and her characterization is indepth. (Not to mention that she doesn't write in constant simple sentences lilke Meyer does) A comparison cannot be made except that they are both fantasy. I'm glad that both invoke teens to read, but you won't learn much from reading the Twilight books. Except maybe how to dim your sexual mojo so you don't fall prey to a vampire.

Both JK Rowlings AND Stephenie Meyers are brilliant writers. And FYI, "Bella" is written as an ordinary looking girl in the book, which makes Edward appear deep and not shallow. I, who was just recently a very big Twilighter, was so dissappointed by Breaking Dawn, that I'm suddenly seeing the series in a brand new light. Seriously guys. Edward sparkles? Really? How is Bella, the worlds most bumbling human, magically transformed into the worlds greatest vampire, with no newborn bloodlust? Ok now I'm done ranting
And by the way, Harry Potter owns this series. Saying that Smeyer is the new JK Rowling is a travesty against literature. I've even come across people calling this series classic.
If you're looking for an interesting, addictive and well written series, I say read the "Uglies" series. Ugly name, kickass series.

Okay, you crazy people need to chill out. They're just two series of awesome books. And I personally prefer Twilight over HP. I think Twilight is amazing and I love the characters and the story line is brilliant. But really, anyone who has read the HP books and then have seen the movies, you know that the movies don't really do justice for the books. So… chances are that the same will happen to Twilight. It's not the end of the world though. They're only movies. The books are always better. With out a doubt. And anyone who chooses to see the movies without reading the books are stupid. Anywho! As a fan of (first and foremost) Harry Potter, I am upset (livid, if I may) that HBP is being pushed back to July. That's 11 fucking months! I thought 3 more months of waiting was going to be hard. Hopefully by then the momentum for the movie will still be strong.
Now, TWILIGHT! I am a fan of the books. The series does not live up to Potter, in my opinion…but I still love it for what it is! Stephenie Meyer has never claimed to "be the next J.K Rowling" - that has been said by the public. Obviously, dear Smeyer has some talent - otherwise these books would not be as popular as they are today.
So I say - why can't we all coexist harmoniously? My god. If you don't like Twilight, then fine. If you don't like Harry Potter, then fine. I don't like onions, but you don't see throwing them around and screaming like a lunatic. Or running up to people who do like onions and telling them that they suck.
