I never did understand with Kansas and Arkansas are pronounced so differently at the end. To this day, that remains one of the world's biggest mysteries to me. Am I alone on this?

  2. 2

I do agree with this movement. If a child is to be adopted, I firmly believe it should be placed into a mother & father household. I'm gay and do not believe in gay adoption. It's just wrong on all levels. If someone has a kid and then chooses a gay lifestyle, or if a parent is forced to be a single parent after a divorce/death, that's different. These are circumstances that were inevitable or just played out like that and caused the child to not have a mother (or father), but I don't feel it's right to deliberatly place a child into a "dad & dad" or "mom & mom" environment, when it could be placed in a "mom & dad" household.

Re: Andy27 – i got relocated to kansas and i can tell you the difference (besides how you say it… which yes makes NO sense) kansas is waaaaaaaaay more west coast then you'd realize and arkansas is FUCKING arkansas…. (hillbilly music plays in the background). kinda like st. louis… backwards crack whore overall wearing rednecks

  5. 5

    *deliberately

  6. 6

Secede already! The South is bringing the rest of the counrty down who needs them?!

  7. 7

Re: hottie – not ALL kansas (west coast mentality)… just kansas city and suburb areas (the rest is just quiet… and flat)

  8. 8

thats a bunch of bull!!! BOO ARKANSAS!!!!!!!

  9. 9

Looks like Ricky Martin wont be visting Arkansas……

  10. 10

I SAY GOOD FOR ARKANSAS!! AT LEAST ONE STATE HAS IT RIGHT! KIDS RAISED IN A HOMO HOUSE WILL GROW UP TO BE CONFUSED ABOUT THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MAN AND WOMAN AND THEN THEY WILL PROBABLY GO SOUTH WHEN THEY GROW UP ALSO. CALIFORNIA NEEDS TO FOLLOW SUIT!

  11. 11

Fuck those ignorant back woods fucks…Arkansas sucks ass anyway! And no you aren't alone on that thought Andy!

  12. 12

    Control much ArkansAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!???

Two people who love and treat each other with respect should be allowed to adopt. Who cares what their orientation is? You know how many married couples (male/female) are fucking up their children on a daily basis?
Arkansas needs to get it's head out of it's ass…again the Loudest pop heard around the world….

  13. 13

    Re: BiancaBABY

    Hahahah your so bad

  14. 14

Re: Andy27 – LOL! Ive always wanted to know this… I used to get in trouble when learning the states in elementary school for purposely saying ARE-KANSAS -my teacher hated me cause i was the smart ass in the class =(

  15. 15

Perez, what you don't understand is that what works for one state doesn't necessarily work for another. That's why I'm much more in favor of states' rights. Besides this, if you don't like how your state government is working for you, then go find the right state. But I do not appreciate being told how my state should be run by some random guy from California.

  16. 16

Well, I'm from Arkansas and I can tell you that there are a lot of people here who both agree and disagree with this issue. There are a lot of issues that are going on in this state right now that prove that we're not all "backwoods rednecks" or "backwards crack whore overall wearing rednecks." Just so y'all know…

    xoxo

  17. 17

Being liberal and everything I have no problems with gay marriages. But I'm not ready to support gay adoptions. I think a child needs both a mother and a father. A gay couple and a lesbian couple can go together and get children and raise the children together, to make sure the children get a father and mother(if you get my drift).

  18. 18

IT WILL NEVER PASS, AND it is quite ridiculous… can't we just have the rights given to us by the bill of rights??

  19. 19

    Re: suskiru

    Lol K.

    Go feed your livestock

  20. 20

Alright folks. I'm from Arkansas. And there are lots of people here who both agree and disagree with this topic. We're not all "hicks" or "backwards crack whore overall wearing rednecks" to quote the wanna be hottie. :D jkin. But I'm just saying that Arkansas isn't bringing down the country. Unfortunately we are the belt buckle of the Bible belt.

    xoxo
    Blair

  21. 21

I guess homophobes would rather kids be stuck in large group homes with no personal attention than be placed with a couple that wants them and wants to shower them with love.

So backwards! There is no denying this is a Civil Rights issue!

  22. 22

This is absoloutly ridiculous. A lot of gay people would make better parents than some straight people.
I happen to know kids who are being raised by two moms and they are very happy and normal kids. They are great kids who have a good relationship with their mothers. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH GAYS BEING PARENTS.

  23. 23

    TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. 24

Secretary of State Charlie Daniels! Sweet. The devil went down to Arkansas to preach against love, for hate/ He said y'all homos just need to lie, and trick a girl into bein yer mate/ Because lies are the way to godliness, now you just ignore my horns/'Cause we right-wingers done made our choice, and think love should've never been born! Hate is the way to godliness y'all! Don't you read that there Bible now, with Jesus kissin' on men. That's dirty. You just listen to the preacher and let him tell you what to think, and who to hate, because hate is the true path to me.

  25. 25

Re: MsBlair! – the belt buckle of the bible belt………. LOVESIT!!! that belt buckled is completely bedazzled and is sold at walmart(s)

  26. ErinD says – reply to this

    26

I'm from Arkansas, and I have to agree that it is "icky icky poo". When so many children need loving families, we should support allowing loving families of all shapes and sizes to adopt.

  27. 27

I think in Arkansas you can only adopt children whose parents are brother and sister.

  28. eep says – reply to this

    28

    I don't think thats fair

  29. 29

I think it's awful and it's taking numerous steps in the wrong direction. This country should embrace diversity. The world is not what it was years and years ago, and it will always continue to change. We need to raise kids with the mentality that change is always happening and holding on to these conservatist, homophobic, and just plain out-of-date values is simply wrong, not to mention sad. As a heterosexual single female, I strongly advocate for the equal rights of of the straight and LGBT community, and I hope I'm not alone on this.

  30. 30

oh my god i can't even type out all of my digust. it's effing 2008, people!!!!!

  31. 31

PS… I don't think this is "just" a gay issue at all. What about single women or single men who want to adopt? I'm lucky to have 2 parents who stayed married, but I am nowhere near better off or more balanced or healthy than my friends who were raised by single mothers. At all. So that is so screwy, I can't even tell you.

  32. 32

Re: hottie – haha Probably so. But we really are the belt buckle of the bible belt and THAT is why this is an issue here. And I have a very strong feeling that there is a lot more to it than any of us will ever know about. I think it sucks. I mean, why can't children be fostered or adopted into homes where there is plenty of love and support? No matter who it's from? That's just my two cents. (See, not everyone in Arkansas sucks. lol)

  33. 33

HAHAHA! the secretary of state is CHARLIE DANIELS.

  34. 34

As long as the couple is providing a loving home why does it matter what their gender or status is??? With all the kids in Foster care you would think anyone who is willing and able to take on a child would be welcome by the state.

  35. FMB says – reply to this

    35

Stupid inbred redneck literal motherfuckers… OK, seriously here is the deal… Do you have any idea how many orphaned, abused, neglected beautiful kids are out there that only want a stable home with LOVE. That's all! It doesn't matter who it providing it, and let's be perfectly fucking clear that having a 'traditional' mom and dad foster parent arrangement does not guarantee perfect upbringing… There are many fucked up straight people who get approved to foster. Committed adults with a desire to raise a child with love should be the only condition that applies. Shame on you backwoods motherfuckers that are trying to put this through! I will be keeping far the fuck away from your state.

  36. 36

Being from Arkansas I will vote against this legislation if it makes it to the ballot. I wish that children could be placed in a loving, healthy environment with responsible adults. I don't care if that is man/woman, man/man, woman/woman. We need to look out for the best interests of the children. Furthermore, I would like to point out that there are uneducated, trashy people from every state. There are many great things about Arkansas. It is rural and conservative, generally. I am liberal and have two degrees yet still enjoy the culture and people- mostly. You must realize, trashing an overall state and saying we are all inbred rednecks does not help any argument and is merely ad hominem.

  37. 37

This is pretty sad. I know a few gay people who have kids that are better parents then some of my strait friends. I lived in Arkansas for 7 years and can personally tell you not everyone there is a backwards hillbilly homophobe. It's just to bad the ones that are are running the state.

  38. 38

I think this is disgusting, i find it extreamly horrible that the state would rather that children who so desperately need a loving home would prefer that they not have one than put them in a "gay home". I have met gay parents and they are wonderful and no different than straight couples. If anything they are held to higher standards because they are being scrutinized for who they are as well as their parenting so they have to be better parents. This is just another example of how religion and so called morals poisin everything. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  39. 39

Save me from this damned place! Let me be your intern!

  40. 40

with some of you i dont agree.
i think a child would much rather be put in a family with gay parents than be switch from foster home to foster home.

  41. 41

    Re: Iphigenia

who says it is YOUR STATE?

ignorance and intolerance is NOT BLISS.

  42. 42

Of course gay parents can be great adoptive parents,as can a single mom or dad ,gay or straight, the bottom line is there are many more kids who need to be adopted and I think if someone is gay or straight shouldnt be the litmus test for that,it should be how good of a parent or provider someone can be. This is a backwards bigoted thing that can only happen in the southern states of backwards poverty ,these are the same places that gave us slavery and contine with the most repressive ,oppressive laws.

  43. 43

I cannot believe they would rather a child be homeless, than let a gay person adopt it. Bet none of the ones pushing this thru would adopt a homeless child either!

  44. 44

Andy 27 WOW!!! IM NOT SURE WHATS MORE DISGUSTING ,THE WAY YOU LOOK OR YOUR THOUGHTS,ITS CLOSE BUT IM GOING TO HAVE TO GO WITH YOUR MIND. HOW DARE YOU SAY GAY PEOPLE CANT ADOPT,DO YOU THINK THEY ARE INFERIOR HUMAN BEINGS,IS THAT WHAT YOUR WHITE TRASH PARENTS TAUGHT YOU,TO HAVE SUCH LOW SELF ESTEEM. AND IF YOU CHOSE TO BE GAY,YOU ARE THE ONLY GAY PERSON I KNOW THAT CHOSE TO BE GAY,AGAIN YOU ARE LYING AND BEING A DISGUSTING PIG,GAYS DONT CHOOSE TO BE GAY,AND STRAIGHTS DONT CHOOSE TO BE GAY,YOU ARE BORN THAT WAY,JERK AND I CAN GO ON AND ON,BUT SOMEONE WITH YOUR LACK OF INTELLECT,MORALITY AND HONESTY SHOULD STICK BEST TO WHAT YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IN LIFE,COMMENTING ABOUT WHAT BRITNEY IS WEARING,YOU DISGUST ME ON ALL LEVELS.

  45. 45

    Re: Andy27 – you're an asshat.

  46. 46

Re: knowitall – LoL…you are a real IDIOT. Truly, you are. I never said in my comment that gays CANNOT adopt. All I said was how I personally feel about the issue, and if you don't like it, well, you can eat my ass, Idiot. I'm certainly entitled to voice my thoughts on here as much as anybody else, I could give two flying fucks whether you like it or not. You think I came on here looking to please you? LoL…keep dreaming, Idiot.
And as for the "choosing to be gay" remark, perhaps you ought to take a look around you. MANY, MANY people out there go and marry someone of the opposite sex, has kids, then CHOOSES to divorce that person and go for a gay relationship instead. THAT, YOU FUCKING IDIOT, IS CHOOSING a gay lifestyle. I did not say that they CHOSE their sexual orientation (Lord knows I didn't choose mine), but many do CHOOSE a gay lifestyle after they've attempted the straight one, whether it was out of genuine desire or to please their family/society's expectations. So don't sit there and make an ass out of yourself, by making such IDIOTIC statement, about how people don't choose a gay lifestyle. You can be 100% gay and not choose the gay lifestyle, you moron. Next time get yourself right before you come at me, cuz I will disassemble your ass real quickly. IDIOT.

  47. 47

It is banned in my state as well, but their are ways. A gay couple I know had one go to China, get their boy, and they are living as a family. It sucks that you have to sneak around like that and they won't be married ever as long as this state has it's way, but they did what they had to do. Fucked up–you can adopt as a single man, but not as a loving couple of two men.

  48. 48

Re: hottie – i just had to respond to your analysis of kansas. As A well traveled west coaster i must say that kansas is fAAAAAar removed from the west coast mentality as could be. a city that you cite in your example -kansas city- is ,majority wise, in Missouri. kansas city isn't named after the state, it's named after the kansa indian tribe. and i don't know where you went in st. louis, but that town is fuckin cool, you want redneck crack whores you can find them in the slums , as with any major metropolitan. in kansas, never before in my life had i been asked "yeww ain't from around here, are ya?" so much. they spot the outsider and they let you know it. being down here in Arkansas, where i am now, nearly isn't so bad as it was in kansas. have you never heard of the westboro baptist church? it's out of witchita. they have a website called GodHatesFags and they're the dickheads that protest military funerals. that fuckin state is as backwards as it gets.

  49. 49

I wish this was up for a nationwide vote - finally the gays will understand that they are looked down upon everywhere, not just in the hillbilly states!

  50. 50

thats AWESOME…I hope the vote passes

  51. 51

Why is anyone surprised? It IS Arkansas, after all…

  52. 52

Good ~ because gays and lesbians are suffering from gender dysphoria, and other mental health illnesses. As individuals, they (might) be good caregivers, but they are clearly putting their personal desires ahead of the best interests of children (who absolutely would not benefit from having to deal with issues of homosexuality, and everything that flows from it, during their formitive years).
    ~..~

  53. 53

::sigh:: why America chooses to leave kids in orphanages and foster care, rather than giving them a willing family, is amazing to me.

I bet if you asked the lonely children, they'd take any loving parents, regardless of whether or not they were BORN gay.

  54. 54

Since I am from Arkansas I have something to say on this. Do you understand that we are in the bible belt? We voted to ban gay marriage in our state, why would we allow gay adoptions? Come on Perez not every state is California.

  55. 55

yes! let's deny these children loving parents! growing up in 11 different foster homes can't be nearly as bad as having two moms or dads!

    rather sad, really.

  56. 56

I'm a straight woman from Texas and I wrote the governer of Arkansas today to tell him how wrong I feel this proposed legislation is. If you feel the same, write and tell them about it.

  57. 57

    Good move!
Now all other States should do the exact thing!

  58. 58

    Re: PickleG29

Arkansas will never let that happen. I would make sure to make the polls if that ever comes to light, actually I would drive a bus to pick up voters and take them to the polls for that vote.

  59. 59

thats not shocking. its arkansas. take a visit. you"ll understand.

  60. 60

Well, at least first cousins can still marry there, yee haw!

  61. 61

I live in Arkansas now, but I'm from California. I was asked to support this proposal and sign the petition, and did NOT I do not agree. It's stupid gay people are people too and they're very capable of being loving parents. I hope it doesn't pass!

  62. 62

I'm from Arkansas and I think that all the finger pointing at our state as being the only one that has this bill is just sad. Fact is there are a few states like this. The harshest of them all is Florida! Read up on their little bill about this situation!

  63. 63

A child will be better off with 2 parents that love it, no matter the combination of genders or marital relationship, than with NO parents.

  64. 64

I am from Arkansas and I am TOTALLY against this. Don't worry - we will NOT let it pass!

In addition, I think that stereotyping is wrong - no matter who the target is. So, to all of you who assume that all Arkansans/Southerners are ignorant bigots, you are no better than the folks trying to pass this legislation. After all, the first Miss Gay America was from Arkansas and the Miss Gay Arkansas pageant is one of the biggest around!

  65. 65

I'm so tired of hearing how redneck/hillbilly/backwoods people from the south are. I'm an Arkansas girl born and raised and I now live in Chicago. I can tell you that there is nothing like Southern Hospitality. People believe what they want to believe and obviously those in power feel that it's wrong to put a child into a gay/lesbian home. What most of you seem to forget is that those people don't make the final decision. If you don't agree, get out and vote against it. But quit talking shit about a place and people you know nothing about. There are very intelligent, successful, creative people from Arkansas. Those of you calling us "backwards crackwhore overall wearing rednecks" are no better than the people trying to pass this bill. Judging people you don't know. Grow up, do something to change it and quit bitching!!!

  66. 66

I'm from Arkansas. And I definitely don't agree with this. It pisses me off quite frankly.
I am so sick of everyone who judges Arkansas and all the other southern states. You shouldn't judge a state especially if you haven't been here. Arkansas is a nice state and there's not people running around in overalls with a banjo and missing teeth, out in the middle of nowhere living in a house with no windows, and a collapsed ceiling. It's a nice city. Just like anywhere if you want to see that you have to go out to the middle of nowhere in the country. And most of Arkansas consist of nice, big houses. With nice normal people.
And we are not "backwards crack whore overall wearing rednecks"
Just trying to make a point.
And just because this is going on, don't think that everyone here is going "Oh yeah, I totally agree with this!"

  67. 67

OK! This is to all of you people saying that Arkansas is a state full of inbred crackwhores…

Put your big girl/boy panties on and get the hell over it. If you dont live here, what the does it matter if we banned gay people from adopting and fostering? Also, all of you city slickers need a reality check! If you really want to bitch about something, bitch about something that really matters like the crime rate in California and New York and all those other 'major' eyesores of America. Our law enforcement has its shit together and can control a state because most of us werent born with a silver spoon in our mouths and know a little thing about respect for another persons property.

Please, Perez and other whiners, cry about something worth crying about.
When the world comes to an end because of gay people not being able to marry or adopt kids, THEN talk to me. Otherwise, crack open a bible why dont you. Hey, heres a thought, GO TO CHURCH!! And yes, God will forgive me for my ranting and cussing. He does every time. See y'all in Heaven! (the believers at least)

  68. 68

Even though I live in Arkansas, I definately hate that you can't adopt/foster if your unmarried regardless of what gender the couple are. Why should it just be hetero married couples? A lot of married couples don't even stay together now anyways. It's definately not fair.

  69. 69

OMG I am not homosexuell but this people are bastard (the arkansas family council NOT the gays ;) ) . If you want to adopt dear arkansas gay…come to germany :)

  70. 70

It's not all of Arkansas. believe me. It's really awful that we are run by a bunch of homophobic republicans. Sorry it has to be this way.

I love where I live in Arkansas and have absolutely no control over things like this. it really sucks.

  71. 71

Okay, I am from Arkansas. We aren't a bunch of hillbilly, backwoods people. Sure, if you go to small little towns that consist of 600 people, they are. What state doesn't have those? We're not all from Judsonia or Pangburn..
I don't think this bill is right at all and I would much rather a child live with gays and lesbians than go from foster home to foster home their whole life.

  72. 72

I am guessing you people who are calling those of us from Arkansas have never actually been here? Because, not ALL people from here are hillbillies, hicks, crackwhores, or whatever else you want to call it. People like this live in every state in the union! Arkansas gets a bad rap because it is a poorer state (i.e. not developed like say NEW YORK) people have not decided to settle here because I'm guessing it's because there's no close beach access…being landlocked kinda sucks. However, I live in AR and the NW part is really beautiful…so before you start throwing out blind judgments, look at yourself…only someone who has a one-sided point of view would say something like that.

  73. 73

This is just fucking stupid. Unmarried people can *have* kids but unmarried people can't *adopt* them? Yeah that makes perfect sense - NOT

A child should not be denied a loving home with someone who'd care for them just because that person may be single. A home with a single parent is better than no home at all.

  74. 74

    not right

  75. 75

Re: theregoesonenow – i'm from cali….. i think i know what west coast is…….. and i lived in st. louis for a year and went all over and it was ALL FUCKING REDNECK OVERALL WEARING CRACKHEADS…. wichita is considered western kansas and they are all idiots the more west you go. i specifically said the suburbs and in the city area, and by the way kansas city kansas and kansas city missouri are all combined together. thanks for playing

  76. 76

Re: theregoesonenow – p.s NO ONE talks with an accent like that in kansas that is in ST LOUIS and ARKANSAS you fucking idiot…. YOU obviously haven't traveled kansas too much there have ya. YA ALL COME BACK NOW YA HEAR?? give me a fucking break

  77. 77

I have to correct the southern white trash hag who said Californias and New yorks crime rates are higher than the arkansas cesspool, you are wrong. When you take California a state with almost 40 million people the crime rate is much lower per capitat then arkanas, and both New York and Californias crime rates have been going way down every year. Texas the cesspool has a much higher crime rate.So stop listenting to your inbred parents about crime rates, because per capita California and New york have some of the lowest crime rates. Now look up per capita you rightwing white trash toothless hillbilly.

    i

  78. 78

Again I have NEVER heard of a gay coupld molesting thier own children, but you hear of PLENTY of straight men who moleste their daughters, while the mothers turn a blind eye. Your sexual preference has NOTHING to do with how well you raise a child. I would say these children being adopted are SAFER because to be adopted you have to go through rigourous backround screening! Anyone can just have a baby and then abuse their child for the rest of the child's life. At least THIS way, you can keep some sort of TABS on them! Don't you think?! Keeping children in crowded orphanaged or denying them the opportunity to be raised in a happy healthy home is just STUPID. Perez if you read this PERSONALLY I would love to talk you more about this issue. I think you need to stand up and DO something about this ludicris situation! i agree with whoever said it, we have the Bill of Rights for a reason. EVERYONE is equal. Not everyone who is STRAIGHT is equal. Church and "State" (meaning government) are supposed to be kept seperate, that is what our country was founded on, and yet if someone doesn't have the same beliefs or sexual preferences as we do, then they can't have the same rights as everyone us. Didn't we solve this after we abolished salvery and gave women the right to vote?! Is there a REASON we're STILL being stupid and blind and ignorant in this country?!
