We're always a bit worried when an actor attempts to "transition" into the music world, but Emmy Rossum is the real deal!
She has released an EP on iTunes - a precursor to a full length album in the fall - and it's good. The songs are really good!
Rossum began her career in opera and learned to play piano before she was five. She also wrote every single song she recorded, and in many ways she has more cred than Avril Lavigne.
Emmy's sound is angelic, which is right up our alley. But it's not too pretty. The songs are meaningful, especially Slow Me Down, which we've been listening to non-stop since we bought the EP on iTunes.
If you like Imogen Heap, then you will love this. It's totally a similar vibe to the Brit's exquisite song Hide & Seek.

Emmy was a singer *before* she was an actress. Her singing led her into movie roles.
She is one of the most gorgeous women alive and she is amazingly talented. The songs on this CD are so pretty. I've been looking forward to her album! YAY!

Why does everyone assume that just b/c she sang in operas as a kid, that automatically means she's amazing?? To sing with the opera as a kid, you just have to be able to have a good ear. The actual tone and timbre of your voice mean far less at that age. In addition, I highly enjoyed Phantom, but she is not a breathtaking singer. There were lots of places in which the Phantom tracks sounded overdubbed in order to cover mistakes or weak elements to her voice. She has a pleasant tone and a good musical ear, but she is not an "amazing" singer. That would be someone who has more substance to his or her voice. That being said, I liked the song. I'd be willing to hear more.

Please. Why can't artists create their own music instead of trying to copy whoever's "hot"? This is a clear rip off of Imogen and not half as good.
I think her voice is a tiny bit too harsh for the music. Her chorus suits the music, but her verses are basically just spoken and rather loud and the 'doo-doo-doo-doo' in the background is just too 'sensitive' for that.
She's beautiful and has a nice voice, but needs to find her own style…something that suits her.

It's definitely a style - surely a breath of fresh air from all the hiphop/rap/R&B crap being shoved down our throats by commecial radio. That being said, it probably won't make it to commercial radio because it just doesn't fit the format. Then again, Perez, you have done wonders for other singers' careers so perhaps you'll be succesful here too! And to all those who say you have to be 45 to enjoy this: PHOOEY! Emmy was really a singer first, trained from wee youngster-hood.
Her big acting break was in the film Songcatcher where she played the role of a young girl who sang folk songs for a professor who was "collecting" them.
I like Enya and everything but this I found really annoying.
