Big Names Backing Tintin Flicks

Filed under: Film Flickers > Old People

stevens__opt.jpg

See what happens when old people control the money!

DreamWorks is planning to do a few movies based on the Tintin books.

Do we even remember who Tintin is????

Steven Spielberg, one of DreamWorks' heads, is going to direct the first film.

And, Lord of the Rings movie mastermind Peter Jackson will direct the sequel and serve as a producer on the first film.

The first Tintin film will be based on two books, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure.

Are you excited about this project?

We aren't!

Guess it's a baby boomer thing.

Perez, honey, pick you up some classic Tin Tin's and read that shit! I can't believe they're finally making Tin Tin films! This is my favorite gossip of the day. :)

But you know what… My boyfriend didn't know who Tin Tin was either- so maybe its an American thing. You guys need to get with it, you're missing out! You HAVE to tell us if you get any info on who's being cast.

  12. 12

Perez-theydon't just make movies for American audiences. TinTIn is big overseas and I here in the US have the original books, my kids read them, my neices and nephews also. There will be an audience, believe me. I can already see the Asian market too.

  13. 13

OMG! My friend has a crush on tintin! LOLZ this will make her day! xD

  14. 14

sounds like a good name for some boobies… "my tintins look so good today"…. "would you like me to put my tintins in your mouth" … etc.
    just sayin….

  15. 15

Very skeptical, but with both Spielberg and Jackson running the show how can it fail?
Hope they won't ruin my child hood memories from watching the cartoons on TV.

contrary to popular belief there is a world outside the United States. Tin Tin is insanely popular all over the world, the books have been translated into countless languages. I grew up with with books and television series and so did everyone else I know and I'm in my 20s.

  18. 18

Yeah, you probably wouldn't be familiar with a 1930's belgian comic strip Perez. But rest assured, its a lot of fun. Not sure if I like the idea of a movie though.

  19. 19

Tin Tin is an old comic book from Belgium…and it kicks ass… It follows the adventures of a young dude around the second world war time in Europe… I used to watch the cartoon as a kid and loved it…It should be a fun movie to see….

    AMEN!!

  21. 21

Yes, finally some news about TinTin movies!

Come on?! Not exited?? you totally should be, Tintin is from Belgium (where I live)
And it's like one of the most famous comic books EVER!!!
People who don't know who Tintin is, totally don't know anything about Europe!

  22. 22

OMGGG!! i used to LOVEEEEE the Tintin cartoon!!!!
noone i talk to about it seems to remember it
but i recall watching it on Nickelodeon in the mid 90s
    I CANT WAIT!
def one of my favorite cartoon everrrrrr

  23. 23

not a boomer thing dumbass but a euro thing

  24. 24

Hey - Don't knock the Baby Boomers. We Rule!!!!!!

  25. 25

tintin is huge everywhere but the US… its going to be great =] i cant wait to see who plays him and milou is going to be funny =]

  26. 26

if youve never heard of tintin you are culturally challenged. I think tintin as a movie would be cool if done right….I've already seen the tv series though and that was awweesome.

  27. babet says – reply to this

    27

omg i love tintin. I used to watch the shows. You must be like 10 yrs old not to know who tintin is.

  28. 28

We GenXers love Tin Tin & the Thomson Twins too, babycakes. I can't wait to see it. Blistering Barnacles!!

  29. 29

You show your ignorance when you make foolish comments like this.

  30. 30

as everyone else is saying… tintin is huge everywhere else in the world. you should look of the artist sometime. His attention to detail is absolutely amazing. He had endless catalogs and other resources to make sure that everything was accurate. Even down to Chinese cigarette adverts.

  31. 31

not exciting…..altho neither is Miley Cyrus crap. Maybe we need a new definition of tweener - not a senior citizen, but not into disney created musicians.

  32. 32

I'm excited! I grew up with Tintin, read pretty much all of them.

  33. 33

Im 22 and I used to watch Tintin when I was little. Here in Quebec it was really popular and kids loved it. I saw a store on St.Denis ( nice street in the french neighborhood in Montreal) that sells Tintin stuff like figurines, books, etc.. Not because you have no culture that other people don't and can't appreciate a classic..

  34. 34

For the ignorant persons who wrote Tin Tin: It is Tintin in one word and his dog is called Milou. Wildly popular all over the world - except maybe the USA. Thanks to Spielberg you may acquire a little culture from another country. Good luck Steven S.

  35. 35

Ummmm, it's not about a damn unicorn that's for sure.

You can't just throw the unicorn name around and not have a unicorn in the show.
    Ugh!

  36. 36

    Eeeee! Tintin!
I used to read the books and watch the TV show when I was younger! Good times…good times. And I'm 19, so it's not like you have to be some old person born in the 1950's to know who he is.

Infact, I was Tintin for Halloween last year!

  37. 37

TinTin is known as "Kuifje" in The Netherlands and really popular. One of the best Belgian comics!

  38. 38

Tintin comics rock! I think the fact that few Americans even know about Tintin shows how insular as a nation we can be.

  39. 39

    Re: Miss Mac

LOLZ my friend said Matt Damon as tintin - i could see that! XD

  40. 40

Of course I remember Tintin! I used to love him when I was younger. Not a babyboomer by the way. You should like him too Honey. Rumor has it that Tintin is gay an sleeping with the Captain in Moulinsart!!!

  41. 41

    wtf?
im 18 and i used to read tintin when i was younger.
    their bawmb!

  42. 42

Perez, dear… There was a Tintin show on freaking NICKELODEON about 10 years ago. You're not much older than I am so I don't know how you've never seen it. Don't go making rash comments like "guess it's a baby boomer thing" because it embarrasses the rest of us who are actually intellectual and cultured.

  43. 43

I'm excited! Just because something isn't popular in the US, doesn't mean that it's not popular in other countries. Tintin really rocks!

  44. 44

Such American ignorance. Yes, people care.

  45. 45

It's not a boomer thing; it may be more of an international thing. The Tin Tin books are still very popular around the world

  46. 46

Isn't that a dog or something? No wait, that's Rin Tin Tin. Who the fuck is it?

  47. 47

Re: Cleopatra – His dog is called Snowy

  48. 48

I fucking HATE Baby Boomers! And I hate Speilberg's face, hope he goes bankruped!

  49. ar says – reply to this

    49

    vive Tintin et Milou!!!!

  50. 50

Tintin is classic, but I've got to say I'm skeptical of a dreamworks feature. At least it's not George Lucas making this.

  51. 51

I am in my 40s and have never even heard of Tintin.

  52. 52

Tintin is a french cartoon caracter that "ignorant i dont know whats going on outside state lines" have no fucking clue of knowing who is, unless he was related to superman… its europop cult from the 70' n 80' th

  53. 53

Re: amandamandy – Yes, but in French, it's Milou.

  54. 54

OMG WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???? How come you guys never heard of Tintin? He's one of the most famous cartoon characters EVER, together with Pippi Longstockings and Asterix. WAY bigger than Mickey Mouse in most parts of the globe!!!! Come ON!!!!

  55. 55

    Re: Dlight – Ehem… belgian, not french…

  56. 56

    Re: Andy27 – u look cheasy 2 me

  57. 57

    love pippi

  58. rose. says – reply to this

    58

    OMG I LOVE TINTIN

  59. 59

Tintin is fucking sick…can't wait! I heart snowy :)

  60. 60

OMG, I used to love love love reading Tintin! I didnt think anyone else read those comics before? haha

  61. 61

I used to read the comics when I was a kid… en français.

  62. 62

Uh, I love you, Perez, but welcome to 2006's news. I've been lamenting this since I heard it. They're turning my fandom into a cg-smothered, Speed Racer-esque clusterfuck… THREE TIMES. Why does big Hollywood have to ruin beloved classics?

Oh, and Tintin is only one of the original comic book heroes. Superman and Batman owe him their success.

  63. 63

Re: amandamandy – Um, Snowy's name is Milou in the original French. Cleopatra was right. He's also known as Bobbie, Spunte, Kuttus and Struppi.

  64. 64

You guys in the United-States read only cartoons with super heroes . It's so boring and repetitive. Tintin is huge in the rest of the world. If you don't know who Tintin is , your culture is probably really limited .

  65. 65

Tintin albums are great. I love the crazy professor and the captain. I can't wait for the movies!

  66. 66

I never read the Tintin books, but I loved the cartoon that was out a few years back. I'm actually really excited about this and the fact that they had Stephen Moffat write the script. Great writer!

OMG! Are people stupid? Tintin is great, it's classic. Educate yourself people!

TINTIN! One of the reasons why I hung out in our school library after classes when i was in grade school. I'm 30 and from Manila. age isn't an excuse to not know what's happening outside your…uh.. world… go to www.tintin.com
Choose english if you don't know french. and get hooked like you got hooked on perez.
Oh isn't it still baby booming time now, really? hehe

  70. 70

It's not a baby boomer thing. I'm a baby boomer, and I don't know WTF Tintin is.
