In response to this post we did earlier in the week, we just got this very troubling emails:
"Greetings…
Could you please delete our listing from your website, one of our volunteers thought that it might be a good idea to get the word out to people by being on this site , but after seeing the comments that we get and the disgusting stuff that you publish we are asking if you would kindly delete us from this site. Please confirm back to us that you have been able to do this for us. I believe that we just lost a $25,000 grant yesterday from and organization that was about to donate to our cause after they found out that we were on your site. Do you have any way of offsetting this loss for us?!

I think it's sad that people would say rude things about any charity. And I think people our age need to get involved in as many organizations as possible… donating both time and money. So posting charities to get involved with on perezhilton.com is a great idea b/c it makes it easy for people to click on the links. I understand that these people might want to remove the association… BUT…. THINK IT'S DISGUSTING THAT THEY ASKED IF HE COULD PLEASE COMPENSATE FOR THEIR LOSS OF $25000. What charity would ask that???!!!! They knew what they were getting into and probably have no proof that the $25k grant was revoked.

Thirdly, the wording sounds oddly like those e-mails I get from people claiming to be a poor person in Africa, or the son of a prince or something needing money. And for CEO of a compnay….well he doesn't sound too brilliant. It's just really weird sounding.

It is so ungrateful of this guy. I wouldn't consider it a problem if he just wrote and said "after some of the comments we would rather that you remove the article from your site although we appreciate you helping move us closer to our goals." but its appalling that he just insults your site. If I knew that was the sort of letter he was sending to people trying to help then I would give the $25,000 to someone else as well. And to think that's his "respectful" letter.

It must be especially embarrassing that this message purports to be from the senior officer of an organization promoting reading and literacy.
If this message is indeed from you, you are an embarrassment to your cause. You have disgraced children, donors, charities, and professionals alike through your ignorance, rudeness, and self-righteousness. I have to wonder what kind of professional uses run-on sentences–I had to read the message twice to understand it–and such childish or otherwise elementary language, including "disgusting stuff." I am further shocked that a seemingly-noble organization would boast about a grant in such a low manner and then ask another organization to compensate for a probably-untrue loss.
Your cause is wonderful, but your organization is an embarrassment to it. Frankly, I am surprised that you have partners at all.

I honestly don't look at the read and donate postings. There are too many and some are in just one location and not global. I personally think you would do better if you focused on one charity a month or something like that. You got to concentrate your efforts to make a bigger impact. Not a scattered approach.

Are donations generated by a post on your site any less valuable than donations generated otherwise? I doubt the beneficiaries of the donations made to the organization would feel it is appropriate to judge the value of the donation by the donor. Charity is charity and it comes from a place of love. The response you received shows unbelievable hypocrisy and while it is not surprising , it is still saddening. As for the claim that donations were lost because of your post, it's appalling and ridiculous. I would be very reluctant to mention anything along those lines unless I could back it up with some kind of documentation. I really can't see how it is relevant. no offense but it makes sense that they're upset. you were prolly rly trying to help out but this site is not the best for something like this. this charity has built up a good reputation and wouldn't want people leaving nasty comments especially how ur site uses a lot of foul language and the comments/drawings you add on photos (cums, dicks, etc.) since they specificly deal with minors.

I looked around a little for information on With Wings and a Halo- R.E.A.C.H and I didn't see much– they don't have a Form 990 posted and they basically have no information available on their assets, etc which means that they must be pretty small. They are classified as a 501 (c) 3 public charity, which is good, but still… It's totally suspect that they're saying they lost $25K in funding because of your link– so don't lose too much sleep over it.
I understand what you're tying to do by linking to charities and highlight worthy causes, etc; but I encourage you to investigate the charities you choose a little more carefully and get in touch with them beforehand (like one of the other posts suggested). A lot of non-profits would be happy to provide a detailed briefing for you that might highlight them a little better than something that you might just be lifting off their website. It would also be nice to give them a heads up so they could take a screen shot or something of your post for their records or archives. anyway. just something to think about.

If people are not going to donate to that cause, because of their association with PerezHilton, then they are not able to fulfill the cause. $25,000.00 is a major contribution they have lost, but I don't blame the donator from pulling out. You may call his site disgusting but you obviously do not understand the magnitude of people that go to his site weekly, daily, hourly, etc. Perez Hilton uses his populartiy to help out good foundations. Most people would be thanking him for that kind of exposure but not you. Posting your foundation on his site was a nice act and the only person losing people to your charity is yourself because you wrote a stupid letter to him.

It does not matter what you write, if you want to support someone's cause, it is your freedom to do so. They should be ever so grateful! If any traffic comes from your site to their own, and someone leaves a ridiculous comment or sends a mean e-mail, that is on that individual and their own ignorance. Do you know about the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary? My boyfriend & I visited there last year, and took one of the tours. It is amazing, and we need many, many, many more of these in America. Just a thought on another great cause to support, and I can't imagine them not appreciating it.

And BECAUSE of the type of website you have, you raise awareness in people that don't go actively LOOKING for causes like this, or may not think about these types of situations that people and animals face, so I say, keep it up. 1) If there really was a donor who withheld a donation as a result of an ad appearing on this site, that person or organization deserves to be ruthlessly mocked for trying to create a world where only people like them can have sympathy for others.
2) Everyone in this thread who thinks Perez got what he should expect, expects a world where what it is do be a do-gooder, isn't to do anything good, but to be the "sort" of person worthy of being a do-gooder. Just remember, charities are organizations. Non-profit has no meaning, as well. There is good that is done by donating, but as you found out, they are more interested in the money. Also, if there was a company, or a person for that matter, willing to fork over that amount of cash, they would do it regardless. That is complete garbage, P.

ALso loosing 25k because of moonlighting on a well known gossip site? Well sorry but NO charity would just overnight 'Loose' a 25k grant Unless the they had paid to advertise here and those going to award the grant found out about it.
So if they had no idea about the post advising people to donate why are they so disorganized they didn't about it.
No grants are taken away because of their website being linked to another website, without their knowledge.
