Obama's Camp Responds!
Filed under: Barack Obama > John McCain > Sarah Palin
So, what does Team Barack think about John McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his Vice Presidential running mate.
Well, Obama's spokesperson, Bill Burton, says:
"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.
Burton also criticized Palin as a vice presidential pick for her support of oil drilling in the Alaskan wilderness and her anti-abortion stance, referring to the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in the United States.
"Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies. That's not the change we need, it's just more of the same," he said.
So, that's what they say.
What do U say????

Re: Agent 99 & 1/2 Now I am voting for Obama, no question. McCain showed a lack of judgement an aggressive stupidity and antagonism toward the environment and women's rights when he chose this pageant runner up who panders to the big boys to get her little place of power. –
Oh she is for woman's rights. She is just for EVERYONE having rights too. Even those that can't defend themselves for selfish sociopathic sheeple.
Re: Minx – Post 497
Didn't you say this yesterday. Copy / Paste.
[re=2815334]Re: Minx Post 494
That was an arrogant ignorant thing to say. People support their candidates b/c what their candidate stands for or says resonates w/ them. It's that simple.[/re]
No not that simple at all. I know people who are voting for Obama that have NO CLUE what he stands for. When I told them he's for abortion till the final minute, they were clueless. Some think "Oh, he is so cool and is a good speaker, and doesn't look icky and old like McCain" Some people are THAT shallow. And are too self absorbed to really understand what is going on. So they go with the status quo of the "popular hollywerdos"
It's been happening on BOTH SIDES for a long long time.
Re: zach –
Hillary is/was a whiner. And blamed her losing because of sexist reasons. I don't know how many people made comments about how the right would never let a woman in office…
I guess there are a lot of people eating crow now. Hillary included.
Re: KevinK – If you'd done any reading, you would know how vapid your premise is. Non-partisan documentation of the sexism that ran throughout the primary speaks for itself. Hillary never whined nor blamed, though she did call out bs when it was present.
.
By the way, no one is eating crow except the empty headed celebrity worshippers who actually see Mccain's pick of a pageant runner-up who got a little power by playing up to the boys as a genuine respect respect for women and what they have to offer. He's trying to hump the leg of disenchanted Hillary voters but they see thorough this and find his shizzle insulting.
.
The American public knows Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin is NO Hillary Clinton. She's not even on a par with Condoleeza Rice. There were a number of far better qulaified Republican women he could have chosen and he picked this cheerleader for the NRA and Big Oil. duh-duh-duh-dumb.
I posted this on the other thread but will re-post here.

“We may be seeing the first woman president. As a Democrat, I am reeling,” said Camille Paglia, the cultural critic. “That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails.”
-
“Good Lord, we had barely 12 hours of Democrat optimism,” said Paglia. “It was a stunningly timed piece of PR by the Republicans.”

The only reason anyone rational was considering voting for McBush after the last, disasterous 8 years was because he seemed a saner, wiser choice than Obama.
With his choice of this gimmick running mate, he has blown that illusion. No more Bush or McBush!!

Ah now for the lame character assassinations. Typical of a conversational terrorist.

Sexism will always exist. I never said it didn't. I just said it's not what LOST her her spot. People didn't like her, not because she was a woman, but because of what type of woman she was. She did more damage to Obama's rep that the Right ever has. . What you did above is called projecting. You made a baseless accusation, and treated it as if it where the truth. This is insulting to me, and pretty much anyone in here that reads your post and knows what they are talking about. If you can't respond with facts, don't use FUD. If your rant was so just you'd not have to revert to such shenanigans. .
.
"The American public knows Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin is NO Hillary Clinton."

And the America people are GLAD she is no Hillary. I know I am. Hillary couldn't get in office. This gal probably will.

Rice has already said she had no interest. And the left will just make uncle tom jokes like they did when Bush first gave her a job. Remember that? Anytime the right gives a woman, or someone that isn't a white man a job, the belittle it. Because that hurts their smear that they don't care about such people. Which is another dishonest ploy.

Yes she is. And she doesn't need any cue cards. One of the reasons she was picked. That's the reason Obama's side made that hateful knee-jerk response she did. THAT is why they are on the attack. If she wasn't a threat, they wouldn't care.
She likable, she has charisma, and she has scruples. Something lacking in the US right now. On both sides.
I loved it when she sold the previous administration's private jet on Ebay to put money back in their state. That took brass ones.
Re: seamus – Anyone that calls McCain McBush tells me that they haven't been paying attention. Do you not remember in 2004 when the left was using McCain to ATTACK Bush? That the right was pretty much all against McCain.. and Joe Biden himself told Kerry he should ask McCain to be Vice President? If not, I do. And the left LOVED McCain then. Funny how things change
Esp Hillary who has done more damage to Obama's rep than any R has, now acting as if he's the right choice.
She really doesn't want him to win. She wants to be president again too badly. Wont ever happen.

Brash McCain pick of AK Gov. Palin neutralizes historic Obama speech, stunts the Dems' convention bounce.

The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden.
Re: Minx I do not care what your pesonal experiences w/ people are I know that of others voting McCain. Doesn't changethe fact that there is something about the candidate that resonate w/ them whether it is rational or irrational. –
Minx I was just pointing out that my comment was valid. There are people out there voting for either side out of ignorance. They have no clue what the candidates are for. (well we know Obama is for change… ) Hell they have no clue for the most part what THEY are for. It's a popular thing.
And McCain will also get votes from these people. Esp some women that will vote for him cause they like his VP.

Actually Obama has very little black in him. Also a moot point. And again, this in no way debunked anything I said. :\
As far as people voting with their conscience I am not saying people don't. But there are people that exist that vote for purely social reasons and not conscience or moral reasons.
Re: Squirrel The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden. –
And that right there is why the Obama supporters have been so edgy and hostile lately.
BILL MAHER, ON HIS HBO SHOW FRIDAY NIGHT: I think there is a problem, though, with the media gushing over him (Obama) too much. I don't think he thinks that he's all that, but the media does. I mean, the coverage after, that I was watching, from MSNBC, I mean these guys were ready to have sex with him.

Priceless - Even Bill Maher thinks Olbermann and Matthews want to have a 3-some with Obama
Sarah Palin is grody. McCain’s awful running mate is Anti-Gay, Anti-Abortion, Pro-Guns/Hunting, Love fur coats, Hearts MooseBurgers, and is an Evangelical Christian. She seems TOTALLY our cup of tea. (Anyone have a noose so we can hang ourselves if we have to call her our VP?!). This fur hag need not be our President. She has zero experience and McCain has a history of heart disease. it frightens me to think so many young americans actually support a candidate like john mccain with politics so backwards we might as well be repeating history. history we should have all learned from and mistakes that should never be repeated. yet, mccain '08? i assume most of you are middle-classed citizens, like myself. john mccain doesn't even understand the living situations we are in. his definition of the "middle class" is anyone who makes under 5 million dollars a year. now, i'd love to be in that middle class but he obviously has NO idea what he is talking about and NO idea about the america is he living in.
your perceptions are skewed by the media attacking barack obama for being a "celebrity" or worse, a "muslim terrorist". and when you say "osama" it makes me embarassed to live in a country so ignorant. if you think obama is a terrorist then you should see what will happen to this country if mccain is our president.

Saw this on another blog -
-
It's interesting. Many seem to think Clinton's support was all female and that Palin was selected merely to pander to that group. They are right when they believe that few Democratic women are going to be swayed by Palin's gender. But they forget that many of those 18 million voters were rural and working class males. They will be at least interested in someone who actually fishes and hunts and has worked for a living (and is married to someone who works for a living) and who probably has never eaten arugula in her life. Palin will connect with those voters in a way that Obama and Biden never will. And the percentage she gains doesn't have to be large to make a difference in key swing states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, etc.

You just sunk your own argument. If that is what McCain thinks, then that's a GOOD thing. MCain is against raising taxes for the "middle class." Obama claims he is also against raising taxes for the middle class, but to him, people making over $100,000 per yer would be screwed, paying MORE tax, and having their cap gains taxes hiked to the moon. I'm socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Let the states fight for their civil rights, and let the FEDS (ie pres) work with the economy.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOObama 08.

I never do personal lives of politicians .
If you want to travel down that slippery slope look at McCain's own "spiritual guide" Ron Parsley who spews hate speech against Muslims. Look at Palin who supports Creationism (which is fine, her choice) but I don't even want to entertain the Scopes Monkey trial debacle all over again along w/ Roe v. Wade. Creationists are pushing to have the Bible brought back into schools ( intellgent design argument) , I am very sorry but I would rather educate my children (when I have them) myself when it comes to religion…
bashing perez for putting important matters such as our presidential candidates announcements is unintelligent and ignorant. We need more people to speak the truth about politics and get people informed… If you read these posts you can surely distinguish btw the two…stupid conservative repubicans….who are mostly just selfish and want the rich to get richer….and I love the Osama jokes on here, if you have done any research on this matter you would realize that OBAMA is not Muslim and even if he was that is a bias and ignorant comment to make. we cannot continue to categorize all Muslims as terrorists or allow this. it makes me sick to my stomach to see such ignorance. no wonder why America has allowed us to be lead by the man that will go down in history as the worst president ever for the last eight years…McCain's VP pick is a disgrace to fellow women and she is being used as a puppet! educate yourselves people, and perez please dont stop posting highlights from Washington it's important that people see the TRUTH. Re: sillygoose –
Yep, you got your act together.
Pretty damn cool girl in my book.
HERE'S WHAT I HAVE TO SAY***** BULL SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!
Sarah Palin
for President in
2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
Sorry Hillary,
you can run and win in
2020 with your
"Sisterhood Of
The Traveling
Pantsuit" campaign.
Palin has been governor of Alasks for 120 days. That is it. She admitted she did not know anything about what a VP does.Palin is being used and will be tossed away when her purpose is served. Obama was seen as inexperienced and an product affirmative action even though he served for eight years in the Senate and practiced law, and he had to go through hoops to get the American public to believe in his abilities.
And do the Repubs really think we can believe this woman who is from Alaska, a woman that we just been introduced to, is more qualified to be POTUS( she must be ready to be pres. esp with McCain's old age) than Obama, and in only TWO months? And just because she is WHITE and CONSERVATIVE, (I call it as I see it, and this is the truth. She is more qualified because she is 'white' and if we don't think so we are 'sexist'.)
If they say Obama is affirmative action this woman is even more so, face it, she was only considered for VP because she is a WOMAN and white to top it off.
You get more experience being governor of the largest state in America than sitting in a room with a bunch of politically biased men. McCain's own foreign policy experience is far more than Obama and Biden put together and Palin should reach out to women.
I personally would have loved romney or lieberman

"Go get your insides taken out if you don't want kids. Get on B/C and USE condoms too at the same time. Do whatever you have to from reproducing please. It creates less pro-death people.
Like killing a baby is the same as killing anyone else. No matter what you want to call it to make it seem politically ok.
And no, it's not YOUR body that you are killing. It's someone else's."
-
That is the most ridiculous ignorant statement I have EVER READ! Get my INSIDED taken OUT? Do you know ANYTHING about womens health issues? Do you know how many young women have been refused the right to tie their tubes? Do you know the DANGER of removing your reproductive system? The increase in other health issues, hormone therapy, cancer?!
BTW, Scientifically speaking I don't care what the daddy wants It is my body and I should have all say to what hapens to it. You don't pay for female abortions so stay out of people's private lives and take your personal views and apply it to yourself.
I believe in Obama. We need something different. Maybe he hasn't been in the senate for a long time like McCain but he has life experience and experience with grassroots politics. (Have you read his books???) He's here to inspire people to change the country and. We need a leader who can unify our voices, inspire us to be better and give us hope that the country can change. Just like JFK once said "ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." I believe Obama upholds these same ideals.
And i think it's aweeeesssommme that Perez posts political jargon, go perez!!!!! Just because we're young and love to have fun and read celebrity gossip doesn't mean we can't be politically informed and, of course, VOTE!
Re: missmorgana – Dear miss moron
It is truly unfortunate that you don't understand how your political system works. I will give you a brief teaching. A senator has to consent to treaties effecting your entire country, on the other hand, A governor only make decisions effecting a minute portion of your population. Hopefully this teaching wasn't to difficult for you to understand…. A senators job is far more important .

So, it's probably a FAR better idea to have a president who is WAY too young and has absolutely ZERO leadership skills what so ever to lead our county isn't it? Uhh yeah, I don't think so!!!! Palin is the GOVERNOR of ALASKA…. Obama is only a Jr. Senator from Illinois. Her years as Governor along with her years as Mayor add up to 12 years of executive experience. Obama has 0 Executive experience. She is also versed with Foreign Relations since Alaska borders both Canada and Russia. She has also flushed out crooked Republicans leaders in her own state. "john mccain will not be the next president. even if he is elected his old ass is probably not gonna make it through the whole 4 yrs."

McCain is fit. If he wasn't, his doctors would have told him not to do it. McCain has survived worse things than the Presidency. Spend 5 years in a POW camp them come back to us. BTW next time show a bit more respect for someone that lost 5 years of his life so you can slam him on the internet.
.
.
"THEN we're gonna be lead by some trickkk from [ALASKAAA] that dont know what the hell she's doing…"
.
.
You calling her a prostitute now? Really? That's nice and sexist of you. I thought the left was all about woman's rights. I guess a woman should only get equal rights and be treated fairly if she's a left wing shill… What you said about her says more about you, than it does her. And she has more experience than Obama does. But that doesn't seem to bother you.
Part II
"0BAMAAA is about changing this country for the better and not because he's black, cuz for one he's HALF-BLACKKKK and yea theres a big effin difference. "
You have no idea what he wants to change. And he's more 1/4 black, mostly Arab, and partially white. Not that it matters. It should make no difference to you, or anyone else. You are acting like the very people you claim to hate.
.
.
LOL! Sheeple talk. He just says "Change" he never said for the better.
"maybe if some ignorant close-minded republicans listened to him for once they'd understand. BARACKKK THE FUKKiiN V0TE BETCHEzzzz…"
LOL I am not close minded, or a R. But I have listened. And the only thing he's said was "I'm for Change" That doesn't say a lot.. at least with McCain I know what I am voting for.
BTW Obama is doing the VERY SAME THINGS Kerry did the last election that lost Kerry the election.
Being about "Change"
No specific agenda just running on the "Not going to be like Bush" platform.
People WANT to hear what that change consists of. Otherwise they think you are hiding something, and then they don't trust you. Great is the evil you don't know, than the evil you know.
And that my friends is how Bush got in office not once, but twice. The second term he got more voted in the electoral AND popular vote than Clinton EVER did. And the left considered Clinton's last presidential vote a landslide.
The reason Obama is being so "secretive" is because most of America is somewhere in the middle to the right. The other half is somewhere in the middle to the left.
Obama is somewhere to the left, to the FAR left. American has never and will never in the foreseeable future vote for a far lefty.

Re: Minx – Post 565
The word you are trying to use here is pander. Compare the two words.
-
Ponder - to weigh in the mind, to think about : reflect on
-
Pander - to provide gratification for others' desires, to act as a pander; cater basely - As in - "His latest speech simply seems to pander to the worst instincts of the electorate."

SINCE you included this in your response TO ME, you are PREACHING TO THE CHOIR. Love my bold fonts… I know you don't
NO ONE who has read my posts can state I never advise researching each candidate on legit sites such a fact check , the candidates websites that states their agendas, wikipedia or government websites (i.e) Rand.org Congress Quarterly to name a few. So please, stop posing as an impartial I as an INDEP. am for Obama and Most already familiar w/ me and READ already know why.
Re: Squirrel –
Squireel Please don't start that BS I make a lot of typing errors so if your going to bitch about spelling and rereading then just ignore my posts.
Thanks.
Re: Minx – Post 568
Well, normally I wouldn't point out a perceived typo. But since you used the word twice in the mentioned post and since this isn't a typo due to keyboard layout, ie blue vs blur ( the "a" and the "o" are on opposite side of the keyboard). Nor was this a simple misspelling, then I concluded you were using the wrong word. Judging from your response, I obviously have hit a nerve with you. I suspect this is not due to me pointing out the misuse of a word.

No need to apologize, I wasn't being nice. I still think you are disingenuous and your comments on this board reflect your position as being one coming from an emotional base more so than an objective base. I accept your declared position as that of an Independent and this may be the case regarding past or future elections. But regarding this election I can only conclude that you are pro Obama. I have yet to read any comments from you that would lead me to believe you have even considered McCain. Your attacks on McCain for his choice of Palin, calling him a liar and her a coward, buttress my belief. Now I will admit, I have not read every single post you have made on this subject. I will also state that I may be somehow misreading you. But judging from your positions and arguments, I can only arrive at the understanding that I outline above.

Re: Squirrel –
Um Squirrel,
Sorry to disappoint but I was BIG TIME McCAIN fan BIG TIME! Also, you can't judge me based only on this weeks Posts b/c this election has been going on for how long now? So as it comes to the wire and I am listening to the candidates John McCain officially lost me when he came on National tv and shocke the hell out me imlying war w/ Iran, not knowin about the economy and stupified on a healthcare question!! I mean come on! Are these NOT the issues Americans are discussing. The faith I had in him was shook to the core. So yes, today I am for Obama and what was once a HARD sell became VERY easy when I mulled over Obama trying to find FLAWS to NOT vote for him. So please do not sum me up b/c of 3 days of posting I don't ASSUME that of you, extend the same courtesy.
I just have to say..that i wish people would educate themselves on both candidates. When you do you will see that Obama has no clue as to what he's doing or what he wants. He changes his mind and who is to become who he is around. He said he has opposed the war from the beginning, yet he voted three times to support the war a fund it with 360 billion dollars. (And he wasn't even in office when we first went to war) He has no clue how to run anything. Palin at least for the last 2 years has been running a state and before that a town. Obama is an idiot who got all the wind sucked out of his sails when McCain made his genius pick. McCain/Palin 08!
People say that obama should shut up - but i say keep talking…cause everytime he does his foot moves farther down his throat. Wake up America…vote the issues not the person.

"Your attacks on McCain for his choice of Palin, calling him a liar and her a coward, buttress my belief."
Yeah, John McCain lied and yes, I do think Palin is a coward. My "attacks" are quite MILD compared to what I have read others post on her (i.e) The DS baby is not hers but her daughter's, She doesn't believe Global Warming is real, she wrongfully tried firing a fellow politician b/c he wouldn't fire her Bro in Law… I have not stooped to ANY of that. If Palin is the definition of the most qualified and experienced McCain could find in the Republican party then the party should be scrapped. She is riding on Hillary's coat tails and she only made the cut b/c of what's between her legs.
Now I could have been a petty bitch and say for her being touted as so morally upright, that was dirty politics to fire someone because you're pissed at your brother in law. Her pedestal is WAAAY up there so the fall would not have been pretty. I call it the way it reads and the fact is, for McCain to meet this woman only once and choose her smells of desperation and for her to accept and NOT KNOW THE ROLE OF VP labels her a cowardly opportunist that is only versed on her surroundings.
Re: Minx – Post 574
I don't think anyone has to assume or decipher my position. I have been crystal clear as to the candidate I support and the reasons for that support.

McCain has never changed his position on the war or attitudes toward other countries that he, and we as a country, consider a threat. Nor has his understanding of the economy diminished leading you to suddenly conclude he no longer has a grasp of economics. He has always stated his strength is not economic issues. He has never been a proponent of nationalized health care. No deception there. So I don't understand exactly what McCain did that "shook you to the core" and make you change your mind about him. If you were naive about McCain, then I can see how you might change your mind about him once you got to know him. But to call yourself a BIG TIME FAN and then to lay out those reasons for changing your mind only proves that you are a neophyte.
Post 577
Squirrel Now I have to cut it short with you b/c you are now taking the liberty of putting words in mouth. What you implied by typing that sentence first w or w/o "" is that I stated that. Those words are YOUR interpretation. If you are going to argue me use MY direct quotes NOT your Interpretations.
Secondly, Have you read McCain's book? THAT was where I became a big fan. He just RECENTLY came out and said he knew nothing of the economy. He never stated that in the 8 years I've been familiar with him. AS for healthcare I know he isn't 4 Universal care But is it wrong to expect him to know what healthcare entails, Especially giving his stance on abortion another issue big in America? Once again don't make rash decisions
Re: Minx – Post 576
This only proves that you are not on the fence and were not on the fence prior to her selection. If you were truly objective, you would not be put off by the petty arguments you make regarding her and his selection of her. Objectivity requires you to look deeper than that.

Did I ever stated he did? What I stated was that now he is implying war w/ Iran. I am tired of spending $$ overseas when shit needs to be done here.

I type what I think necessary and important to type things that people are familiar w/ not everyone is well versed in poilitical science nor world affairs Since that was my major and current PhD pursuit I do not think it arrogant to know a little bit more on the sugject than your average American ( don't distort that i'm saying you know nothing). Lastly, As I have stated before I do not do namecalling so from this point on do not expect any responses from me b/c name calling is such negative energy that distracts from issues that matter. Have a good day

Well said. I wondered why the records weren't made public. Whether people admit it or not age is an issue. Ronald W. Reagan was I believe our oldest president and when his age b/c an issue he released his records and made fun of his opponent saying he would notuse his youth and ignorance against him. That was pretty fun then, I don't think it would have gone over in today's time though.

If you were so informed about McCain then you would not have used those reasons for and excuse to change your mind about him. Please do not distort the man's position and claim he flip flopped on these things. He has always been clear about these issues.
-
As for the war with Iran, if you knew McCain as you pretend to know McCain, his saber rattling should be no surprise to you.

Squirrel please read post 574 where I clearly stated where McCain lost me and where Obama gained my support. DUH! OF Course before either VP's were selected I chose Obama. I have only said on this thread I would not pass judgement on Palin till I heard more on her and considering how light the material I have to wait. In regards to HER ACTIONS and Speech CLEARLY CITING HILLARY she is riding on Hillary's coat tails, This is abut getting Hillary's votes my opinion. We can agree to disagree but don't take liberty with my words. I don't do that to you.
With that said I am sticking to my guns now and signing of w/ you.

Please state where I said he flip flopped on war w/ Iran? Last I checked I said I am TIRED of wars and want to bring the focus back here. Is that NOT what the following sentence says? You chop and cherry pick what you want and then attempt to distort.
This is such a waste…. GOODBYE! GOODBYE! GOODBYE!

I'm sorry you find my challenges too difficult to belabor. I enjoyed the exchanges. However, I will not back down from my points nor will I take back the neophyte charge. I think you are transparent and I really enjoyed jerking your chain.

P.S. - I correct in assuming you would not respond to my post 998 on the other thread.
Re: Minx – Post 584
I used "flip-flop" because you seemed to infer he changed his mind about Iran with his "tough talk" regarding the possibility of war (you were "shook to the core" as if you never thought this was possible from McCain). Sorry to mischaracterize you if that's what I did.
