Presidential hopeful John McCain's campaign is strongly calling for an end to all the questions and news surrounding the background of VP nominee Sarah Palin.
Seriously??????
Campaign senior adviser Steve Schmidt wrote in a statement, “This nonsense is over."
The Republicans are crying sexism!
Says the McCain adviser: “This vetting controversy is a faux media scandal designed to destroy the first female Republican nominee for vice president of the United States who has never been a part of the old boys’ network that has come to dominate the news establishment of this country. The McCain campaign will have no further comment about our long and thorough process."
Are McCain's people sure they did adequate research on Palin and her background? And why shouldn't we talk about her, her life, and her career?
Seriously, McCain is OLD. We're not sure he'll last two, full terms. Maybe not even one.
So, if this lady might potentially be the first female President if McCain dies while in term, then we should know all we can about her.
We also have a feeling that if the same thing were occurring on the Democrat's side, they'd be plastering it all over the news.
Unfortunately for Palin, it turns out this little-known, first-term governor had a lot to be made public. And here are some of the juicy items that have been released, aside from the news of her teenaged daughter's pregnancy:
- A private attorney is authorized to spend $95,000 of state money to defend her against accusations of abuse of power.
- Palin sought pork-barrel projects for her city and state, contrary to her reformist image.
- Her husband once belonged to a fringe political group in Alaska, with some members supporting secession from the United States.
- She has acknowledged smoking marijuana in the past.
A senior McCain adviser, Tucker Eskew, tries to clean up Palin's image by saying that tonight “She will speak as a governor, a former mayor and someone with both hands on the steering wheel of America’s energy economy. She will detail her record of shaking up the status quo in Alaska and standing up to entrenched interests to put the government back on the side of the people.”

Pot smoking should not preclude anyone from holding public office. Hell, Bush was known as quite the coc head. Youthful drug use is no longer a big deal. If she is still smoking, I might have some concerns.

I just think this is getting ridiculous. I am by no means in support of Palin because I feel that McCain's move was cheap pandering BUT everyone needs to stop attacking her personal life. So what, she smoked pot? PROB when she was in college. So what, her daughters pregnant? Her daughter made a mistake and is now going to deal with it in the manner that she sees fit. I think its about time we listen to Obama and jump to policy because if things keep going like this, both campaigns are just going to be marred by dirty political mud slinging. We are looking for a new leader for this country of ours, and we need to start acting like it. We don't want another Bush. AND We need to stop acting entitled as citizens of this country. I think a big problem is alot of people take this high handed approach to discussing politics. The "I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG" stuff isn't going to get us anywhere. If you're coming here for up to date political news or commentary about our elections, then I'd strongly suggest going elsewhere. If you can't know (or find out) for yourself what's right and what's wrong about who you're voting for, I feel sorry for you. Whether this story is true or not, we need a change in the office and we need it now. If the tables were turned the Republicans would be doing the same exact thing, so I it is really doesn't matter either way. I do not think that John McCain made a good decision in choosing her, mainly for the fact that she has very young children. I mean she just gave birth in April. She should be a mother 1st and her job should come second, but the job that she wants I feel requires more than she should be willing to give. I am a stay at home mom of 4 and cherish every day that I get to stay home with my children and care for them and just be with them. Young children need their moms. I understand that not all mothers can stay home with their children, and I didn't stay home with my first, but regret it now. She should be taking this time to enjoy and take care of her children, not trying to be the Vice PResident.

I think this is stupid because you can bet Hasselbitch and the rest of the GOP would be foaming at the mouth over this, pregnancy. Religion never used to be a issue either but the GOP went after that didn't they, and that is in the constitution, to seperate church and state.
