Presidential hopeful John McCain's campaign is strongly calling for an end to all the questions and news surrounding the background of VP nominee Sarah Palin.
Seriously??????
Campaign senior adviser Steve Schmidt wrote in a statement, “This nonsense is over."
The Republicans are crying sexism!
Says the McCain adviser: “This vetting controversy is a faux media scandal designed to destroy the first female Republican nominee for vice president of the United States who has never been a part of the old boys’ network that has come to dominate the news establishment of this country. The McCain campaign will have no further comment about our long and thorough process."
Are McCain's people sure they did adequate research on Palin and her background? And why shouldn't we talk about her, her life, and her career?
Seriously, McCain is OLD. We're not sure he'll last two, full terms. Maybe not even one.
So, if this lady might potentially be the first female President if McCain dies while in term, then we should know all we can about her.
We also have a feeling that if the same thing were occurring on the Democrat's side, they'd be plastering it all over the news.
Unfortunately for Palin, it turns out this little-known, first-term governor had a lot to be made public. And here are some of the juicy items that have been released, aside from the news of her teenaged daughter's pregnancy:
- A private attorney is authorized to spend $95,000 of state money to defend her against accusations of abuse of power.
- Palin sought pork-barrel projects for her city and state, contrary to her reformist image.
- Her husband once belonged to a fringe political group in Alaska, with some members supporting secession from the United States.
- She has acknowledged smoking marijuana in the past.
A senior McCain adviser, Tucker Eskew, tries to clean up Palin's image by saying that tonight “She will speak as a governor, a former mayor and someone with both hands on the steering wheel of America’s energy economy. She will detail her record of shaking up the status quo in Alaska and standing up to entrenched interests to put the government back on the side of the people.”

I was disappointed by her speech. All potshots no real issues discussed outside of drilling. She was also clearly uncomfortable talking foreign policy as well. Maybe it's b/c she came late on the scene I don;t know. I hoe she is ready in the coming weeks to answer to Biden. She has fight and grit, I like that but her speech didn't say much about her other than that. Only time will tell, she hasn't swayed me to the Republican side though, sorry.

She gave a really good right wing speech, but I would hardly go so far as to say that she handed the dems their ass. Sarah Plain admitted to smoking weed when she was a teen. During that time, Marijuana was legal in Alaska. So she wasn't breaking the law. Barack Obama has also admitted to smoking it, in addition to Cocaine, which, in Chicago, wasn't legal.

McCain has a history of cancer, and would be the oldest sworn in president. We have to assume that she will lead the country at least for a short time in the next four years. Furthermore, she sounded a lot like the speakers in the Bush 2004 convention. I heard a lot of hate and sarcasm.
She tried to hit Obama hard. But Obama's strength isn't experience. His strengths are his ability to mediate situations, to reason, and make informed decisions based on advice from advisers. In case anyone missed the passed six years or so, the knee jerk reaction to invade Iraq wasn't the best decision.
I see the same policies: tax cuts for the richest Americans, shrink government (although no programs are EVER listed to be cut), and fight terrorists. Come on people, like any politician is going to eliminate the CIA, NSA, FBI, Homeland Security, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines. The real heroes protecting us are not the suits in Washington. Rather, they are government employees who continue to serve regardless of the administration. Tonight I heard that these government workers unions are in jeopardy.
More of the same. More hate. More greed. More condescension. Did anyone notice how she kept saying "I grew up with THOSE PEOPLE."

Could you remind me again what Senator Obama has accomplished, besides campaigning successfully? "But Obama's strength isn't experience." Wasn't I just reading here yesterday how he was more experienced than her? What situations has he mediated? What actual bill has he passed? How many times did he vote present again? I could have sworn he said Georgia and Russia were both to blame? On the Iraq thing, so you preffered we left Saddam in power. I know a few Iraqi's, in Iraq that would slap the heck out of you. Well firstly, try to do something the liberal media doesn't usually do and CHECK YOUR FACTS. It was proven false that she was associated with the AIP. Look it up, and I'm not talking via abc news.
Secondly, who gives a good god damn if she smoked marijuana? Who hasn't? Certainly not most people, and that includes politicians. The difference between Palin and others is she admits it.
Third, about the sexism: I find it extremely difficult to believe you can just laugh off cries of sexism (even amid the Obama camp's egregious use of the word "racism!") Can you really say that attacking a female politician's pregnancy without any evidence, bringing up her teenage daughter's pregnancy and then implying this politician is an unfit mother and should have stayed at home to tend to the children is completely discriminatory. Would these questions be raised at all had Sarah Palin been male? Would we be calling into question the politician's skills as a father? Think about it…. it wouldn't be an issue.
Come on Perez. Don't be like US magazine. Stick to the policy and celebrity gossip; that's what we come here for.

Thanks Skittles. She can say what she/he wants, it's a free country. It just saddens me that this is the future of our country. Ignorant kids that hide behind the anonymity of the internet, no respect for anything or anyone.
