This is so silly - this woman read a speech from a Teleprompter, she is full of fluff and sadly most of those that think she is amazing will be charmed by the flat northern accent, and the family.
Americans, aren't we concerned with environmental issues on drilling in Alaska for oil that won't be in the US for eight years instead of finding new technologies? I view McCain and Palin as throwbacks from 1971, they want the sames rights for gays, the same type of rights for women in their right to choose, the same myoptic view of the US against the rest of the world.
The RNC looks as diverse as Alaska.
I was disappointed by her speech. All potshots and low blows no issues discussed, no solutions presented to fix the economy. All she cared about was low blows when Obama himself never ran on the platform of experience, he running on the platform of change. As expected I said this before on another thread, if her/ McCain do not address the economy then they have nothing and we are back to the same BS. Attack Obama all you want TELL ME HOW YOU PLAN TO FIX the Things WE CARE ABOUT. She inherited a town that had NO DEBT and left it 22MILLION IN DEBT. Atleast Barack's "community organizing" brought JOBS, TRAINING SKILLS, to people that were DESTITUTE. NOT discussing the economy = DODGING.
She was also clearly uncomfortable talking foreign policy as well. Maybe it's b/c she came late on the scene I don;t know. I hope she is ready in the coming weeks to answer to Biden. She has fight and grit, I like that but her speech didn't say much other than that.
BTW, was anyone else offended by that "hottest governor from the coolest state" buttons? Yeah, to me SEXISM is Alive and Well in her own party as well.

ehh this speech made her very likeable, however, all it consisted of was useless family info, Obama disses, and Alaska. She also really seemed to use the whole SCARY FOREIGNERS concept a bit too much for my liking. I'm just not convinced.
Who is she to be handing out all these insults, anyway? I doubt she was even following the election before she won some contest and got a guest roll in it.

I do think if they are elected she will end up being president because McCain looks like he will not be around at the end of the 4 years. McCain looks terrible. I am totally not committed to either one of the major parties. My children are not old enough to vote, but are at the age that very soon this is going to become ~their world~ The last eight political years have totally screwed mine, so whatever trust I had in the political process is pretty much out the window.

I have asked my children to study the candidates and understand their roles and who they are and what they will or will not bring to the United States and the rest of the world.

If my children can give me an informed choice of who they would vote for if they could vote I am casting my vote for my children's future and the world they'll have to forge their own way through soon enough by voting for their choice. Hopefully they'll choose the same candidate or I'm back on the same fence!

I'm a pro-choice Republican and I'm not one bit worried about Roe v. Wade. Abortion is just an issue that has been bandied about since 1972 - but it will never be repealed. So many people don't think this through. In the event it would be overturned, all that would happen would be that it would be turned back to individual states for their consideration.

She did a good job at the mudslinging but take that away and she did not speak about the issues - isn't this about issues? Also, I would have liked to have heard what SHE would have said, her own speech, not one that was clearly written for her. I give her an A for effort, D for substance, F for originality. Also, it is quite curious that the daughter's boyfriend is on the stage with the family…why no one else? Why just him? If you want to keep the family out of it, then stop staging things. Of course she should have her family up on stage after the speech, but why have the boyfriend up there too? I did think it was cute to see the little girl smoothing her brother's hair, that was adorable. I did not watch the entire thing, read the entire speech, and there just wasn't anything there except catchy jabs and what sounded like desperation.

Re: Minx – Minx, the word change has been major selling point in every campaign since the beginning of time. Obama didn't coin the word, it has been used in every US campaign from Mayor to President. Unfortunately for the Obama campaign, the McCain/Palin ticket has made change a reality.
A good public speaker does not equal a good VP. She's a slap in the face to more qualified Republican women, and her presence as a female on the ticket is not a step up for women when groups make pins (like I saw last night) like "Hoosiers for the Hot Chick." She also took a huge swipe at community organizers; although she was picking on Obama, she ignored the life-changing work that CO's do for communities that have greatly benefited from their work. I guess mentioning those communities, namely communities of color and people in poverty don't count? I didn't hear anything about that.
I'm so proud of you Perez! Thank you for handling this with some class finally! There is MUCH more to this woman then the initial crap the media dragged up on her. If we spotlighted the lives of all people in this way she'd look like a friggin saint in comparison to most "humans" walking the planet. This woman has singlehandedly revived a very boring, divided republican party.

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."
PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform _ not even in the state senate."
THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. i was so excited watching her last night. i was a supporter of hers, but my mom, a lifelong blue collar democrat, was moved too tears. she spoke to her in a way no previous politician has ever been able to. after last night, my parents are voting republican for the very first time.

She hit a home run with that speech. And don't forget, her candicacy covers lots of different bases (sorry for the baseball analogies):female, took on special interests in her own party, special needs mom, hockey mom, wife of a union guy, even the teen preggers thing. While I do not agree with her on everything, she's more than capable and lots of people will identify with some aspect of her life.

It was a well written and delivered canned speech. She's a former sports anchor so she can read a teleprompter, but it takes more than swipes at "Our opponent" ( nice way to try to make herself appear equal) to take this country in the right direction. She NEVER mentioned the Middle class, never mentioned Healthcare, never mentioned poverty and there were only elderly White people in the audience. Great speech, but she still has nothing to offer. OH and while she is bragging that she has executive experience that Obama and Biden don't as Senators, she forgets that McCain has only been a Senator to, ergo, no executive experience. What's worse, she managed a budget "as an executive" of 12 million annually. Obama manages that in a week! That speech was more pomp and circumstance than substance. They need to work harder to convince actual voting and thinking Americans that this isn't the 3rd term of "McBush Pain"!

She (Bristol) will either "lose" the baby OR - I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I wouldn't be supposed if they (Palin's family/Republicans) adopt or even freakin steal a newborn around the time Bristol "delivers" the baby. Perez, I'm so glad to see that you can still appretiate a good speech and commend someone for that even though you disagree with their politics. I believe we need more people who can be nonpartisan like that. I have to say that I am a Palin supporter and I was very happy to see her do an amazing job last night.
Obama is better for women. He rejected the Born Alive Infant Protection Action which would have provided protection for target "babies" who survived abortion. McCain-Palin would punish us with inconvenient baggage like Trig. Not only must women be allowed to re-abort hard-to-kill "babies", we must also be able to abort "babies" up to the age of 8 or 9 years old. Susan B. Anthony was wrong on abortion. Obama is right. Her speech seemed entirely too scripted. She made several pauses where she expected applause. And who cares about the "work" she's done in Alaska? The whole state has what, maybe one million people total? I guess she made it possible for every igloo to have cable tv whooptie-doo!
