The Associated Press closely watched Governor Sarah Palin, the GOP's VP pick, at last night's RNC convention and has outlined the many ways she exaggerated and lied.
Right or Left, a lie is a lie. It doesn't matter where on the political spectrum you are, right?
These are not 'personal' digs, mind you.
She's lying on the 'professional' stage, y'all.
Check out Pinocchio Palin's claims and the truth:
PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."
PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."
THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.
PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."
THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.
Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.
He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.
The AP report also showed how Palin's champions have exaggerated the Alaskan governor's 'acheivements':
MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply … She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.
THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.
MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. … She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.
THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.
FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."
THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.
FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."
THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.
We say if the 'means' are shady then it must mean the 'end' is shady.

Vote for a candidate who understands that what this country needs is leadership to motivate the lower spectrum of this country to get off their asses and WORK to improve things. Obama's plan for compulsory national service (civil options in addition to military) alone will revolutionize America. Who wants to create equity to help you care for your family, to protect even the most unpopular of your interests because you are an American and deserve to have all the choices that non-Americans lack.
Don't vote for the candidate who wants to suck the middle and lower classes dry with empty moral promises in order to enrich the few captains of industry benefiting off of your addictions to oil and beer. Who wants to turn her home state into a Kuwait-lite. They are not you - they are pretending to be. They don't want to hang out with you, they want you to vote, then shut up and enjoy having less of everything while they reap the rewards.

The Republicans lost this election already. Unless all of you on the blog who continue to defend them have an army of children or you're making 30 Million + a year then I really don't understand why anyone is defending these 2. What about the lies in Obama's speech - I saw no headline of that on your website. Wake up- politics is all about stretching the truth. both sides do it. Obama gave promises that only ignorant people believed (that will never happen). In Obama's speech there was a flat out lie, if you watched it, he said McCain said middle class is $5 million, McCain was totally joking(laughing when saying it) and even said to the effect that he knew it would be taken out of context. Obama used it as fact and all the democrats ate it up and were even using it in their arguments-flat out lie. Obama has been campaigning for presidency before gaining the experience needed. I am a teacher and it would be as if I went for a principal's job before knowing anything about how a school works. As long as you are so one sided I will no longer view your website!

THE FACTS: Obama's health care plan does not provide for universal health care coverage. He promises to make it affordable and would require children to be covered, but not adults. Estimates of how many would remain without insurance vary. Hillary Rodham Clinton said during the primaries that Obama's plan would leave 15 million people uninsured.
FORMER PRESIDENT CLINTON: The Bush administration "took us from record surpluses to an exploding national debt; from over 22 million new jobs an increase in working family incomes of $7,500 to a decline of more than $2,000; from almost 8 million Americans moving out of poverty to more than 5 and half million falling into poverty — and million more losing their health insurance."
THE FACTS: Clinton, helped by a decade-long economic expansion, recorded four straight years of budget surpluses. _REP. CHET EDWARDS of TEXAS: "In the last two years, Sen. Obama helped pass the new GI education bill."
THE FACTS: The GI bill became an issue during the presidential campaign because it illustrated a stark difference between the two candidates. Obama, a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, supported the bill; McCain, a veteran himself, did not. Each side accused the other of playing politics with the issue.
The bill, part of a larger war funding bill President Bush signed into law, increased education benefits for troops and veterans. McCain, siding with the Pentagon, said he opposed it because the enhanced benefits could encourage people to leave the service early during a war. THE FACTS: Reid is correct when he says opening areas of the U.S. coast, now off limits, will produce no new oil for years; energy experts predict seven to 10 years. McCain has acknowledged the time frame, but argues it could have a psychological effect on oil markets if the U.S. commits to more production. Many experts believe such an effect would be temporary and likely do little to lower prices.
Instead of being so one-sided, why don't you write about all of Obama's lies as well? If you research the democratic party for flaws as you have the republican party, I guarantee you you'll find a just as many, if not more lies!

With Bush's approval rating being lower than any president ever in the last two years, and this country knowing the HUGE mistake we made electing that douche bag twice - how can ANYONE want to vote for this broad and John McCain. If you have taken a basic college communications class; you will be aware of the way the media skews our views by the way they write the article. Society interprets the articles which is already skewed into believing what we want. "AP" is not a reliable source, and their FACTS, are as misconstrued as Palin's.

She has worked with the good ole boys club in alaska and negotiated with the big oil & gas companies, which is far more than Obama has ever done. Second, when Obama and the rest of the democrats raise taxes it does not effect the elderly or poor families as hard as it does the " working people". The middle class which makes up the majority of the country are effected the most. Why work so hard when the government just takes it away. This is why we have so many people on welfare, SSI, and medical!!! They get all that money tax free! So what are you talking about? They dont get taxed. We the average working class will have to pay for all those free loaders. The rich have accountants who can look for write offs, but they do pay their share as well.

The definition of a recession is 2 consecutive quarters of negative financial growth. The U.S. has only experienced 1 quarter of negative growth in 2007, but since then the economy has been experiencing nothing but positive growth (5+% actually this past quarter). The economy goes through natural cycles of ups & downs. It's interesting that right after Clinton got out of office, the economy began heading down a slight downward slope. That doesn't just happen immediately… it takes years to lead up to that, which means Clinton wasn't the best President everyone thought he was. And that also means George Bush couldn't have single handedly destroyed our economy

The republicans relate to the lowest common denominator. Bush won the last two terms, because so many people don't use critical thinking and want to be one of the masses. They get votes through being likable face and getting those moranic church people voting for them. Bottom line, there are too many stupid people in America, and they are ruining this world.
