The Next Superman Is?

With the success the Dark Knight had at the box office, it's only natural that they're going to come out with more superhero movies. Many MANY more.
The next talked about big superhero movie to be "reimagined" will be Warner Bros' Superman.
But the real question isn't when or if the movie will come out, it's who will play Clark Kent?
Several online fans have already been campaigning for actor Tom Welling (above left) for some time now.
Welling plays Superman on the TV show Smallville.
However, there's also a lot of support for homolicious British actor Henry Cavill (above right), from The Tudors.
Coincidentally, Cavill also auditioned for the role of Superman when they were casting for Superman Returns back in 2004.
He had also previously auditioned for the lead roles in Batman Begins and Casino Royale.
Maybe the Superman role will be his big break?
Also reportedly in the list of top contenders for the role is Canadian actor Victor Webster, who's been in various TV shows.
So whom do U think should play the new Superman?

This post is pointless. Brandon Routh is already signed for 2 more sequels. He is good in the role and I want him to remain Superman.

Re: lovestoned – the problem with Routh is that his movie bombed and the are now "rebooting" the franchise i.e. starting from scratch so they cant use the same cast lest they risk confusing the audience and having them think its a sequel.

Re: MyBlueNovember – he was only signed for one film. The studio has options for two sequels with him that they'd pick up at their choosing. If they dont want to use, they dont have to pay him a dime. Same goes for the rest of the cast as a sequel is never a guarantee in Hollywood. The only one WB will have to payoff here is Bryan Singer who had a pay or play deal to direct a sequel.

Both those guys are way too dinky and not handsome enough to be Superman. I never saw the problem with Brandon Routh, and this reboot sounds like a lame-ass rip-off of the new Batman movies. I probably won't see it.

I feel like most of the kindness items lately have revolved around women. That is all well and good, but it is nice to hear that guys can be kind as well. This one involves an actor who would be A list by the definition that he is the star of a long running dramatic television series. Films? He's done a couple, but is really known for his television role. Age? Not old, not aging, but not in his twenties anymore either.
Our actor is married, and she should be included as well in this kindness since she is part of it. Every two weeks or so, no matter where he is, our actor stops into a local toy store. Generally a big chain, but no love from me since they make him pay retail. Our actor spends $1000 every two weeks like clockwork. When he was filming and kept going to the same store every two weeks, someone asked him why he was buying so many toys every few weeks.
Turns out our actor, stockpiles about 75% of the toys he buys all year long and at Christmas time donates them all to organizations like Toys For Tots, etc. The other 25% he sends to various children's hospitals throughout the year.
You know the best part? The guy doesn't need publicity to keep doing it.

Re: Lenna – well you have obviously never seen the original "superman" movies with christopher reeve… if you had, then you'd know that brandon routh was eerily similar to christopher reeve in terms of his facial expressions, hand gestures, the way he carried himself… i could go on and on… generally speaking, christopher reeve is the "standard" of superman, unless you're a huge comic book fan and then maybe you have your own interpretation but i doubt you are… so you're probably just some "smallville" superfan right?

Re: paulj63 – big bucks!? cw fans would NOT bring in the big bucks for this movie… big bucks is "the dark knight," which having grossed 500 million dollars would mean that with the average movie ticket costing $10 there have been 50 million individual views… for a channel for whom a hit show draws an audience of like 3-5 million viewers… you do the math…
Re: SarahBell – no kidding… if the movie didn't do well then the problem was with the story (or very likely the casting of kate bosworth as lois lane, which was greatly upsetting to many superman fans!)… NOT with brandon routh! he was really good.

Henry Cavill all the way. No offense to Tom Welling, he has made a good Clark Kent, but it would be like, Smallville the Movie if he gets the role. Unfortunately, I don't think that would be a good idea for the studios that want to make money.

Please people, control yourselves! Tom is far too pretty to be Superman. Christopher Reeve looked fabulous as Superman. Large, perfectly proportioned frame with killer bone structure and jawline. Pretty is distracting with heroic male leads. Gladiator worked with a rugged Maximus. Troy flopped with a pretty Achilles. Superman need not look pretty - he needs to look rare and impressive. Smallville was unbearable and pathetic.

You seen the Fog? He's drop dead gorgeous, but he can act and is more than a pretty face.
In fact, he's perfect: he's got the large, perfectly proportioned, heavily muscled frame, square jaw, bright eyes, can act and has a loyal fanbase.
If not Tom, Henry Cavill would work too, but I'm for Tom Welling all the way!

It feels fitting to do Welling. I mean, he's been a younger Superman and it'd be nice to actually see how Superman got his start in a more modern perspective.
However, I wouldn't mind seeing Routh again as well.

None of the above! I want Brandon Routh back!!! I am nervous about this "re-boot". Just let Bryan Singer do his sequel, with Brandon Routh. He already said it was gonna have more action, and a super-villian, probably Brainiac. That was the main thing people complained about, lack of action. Most thought Routh was good. If they re-boot that likely means we have to sit through Superman's origin again, AND more Lex Luthor. Again.
