My husband and I watched about half and then turned the channel. I honestly feel bad for the torture he must have endured but I can only see him as psychologically damaged. He's not all there and I am scared to death at the thought of him being president and the zealot in waiting.

Ugh. I saw this speech by Tom Ridge and it gave me Nightmares. He claims we won the War in Iraq and have scared Al Quaida. I totally agree. American is a third world country with a debt that will make us even more poor should another Republican take office. I go to Europe every summer and even they say that can understand why we would even think to vote for another Republican. They also say that were all "Dam Yanks" who are holding onto to these so called "Moral Beliefs" yet we have more skeletons in the closet and oppressed views than the ignorant people who blows themselves up for cause of their God. Not as hypnotic as Obama but the words were clear and interesting. So he's not a good speaker…when did we all start to think just cause someone talks good that they are good? Change is a central theme…didn't take a genious to figure that out. But I'm not going to vote someone in just to, "help make history." When Obama spoke of his grandmother who didn't get the chance to get promoted due to her gender and race, though she was qualified. I thought that's sad for your grandma she had to work so much harder…but i don't really think HE's qualified and it's not because of race or gender this time.

FYI, read the memoirs, and know a little about the situation in the middle east. I've also lived in asia and met people from around the world (Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa) who i taught with an saw on a regular basis who told me exactly what the world thinks of our country's cowboy attitude. We need a statesman. We need a diplomat. We need someone who engenders the respect of the world so that we can enlist their help in cleaning up this horrible mess we've made. Not someone who is looking to go it alone and feed the middle class to the rich. If McCain gets in we will just keep going down the same spiral. No healthcare, no help for the middle class, stangnant wages and lost jobs because our kids can't compete in a global market. As for McCain, he gave numerous factual inaccuracies about Obama's plans and anyone accusing Obama of being a liar needs to take a good hard look at John McCain. Obama is NOT for raising a zillion different types of taxes. He is about releasing our foreign dependency on oil and the production of alternative fuels and gas, which McCain was claiming he is for yet voted against EVERY TIME. McCain keeps bashing Washington, like he isn't a member of the political elite which he is. He keeps talking about change, yet he voted with Bush 90% of the time. Trying to gain the sympathy vote by going on and on about your status as a POW is sad. People, wake up. Just because someone was a war hero doesn't make them qualified to run the United States. He can say all he wants that he "hates war", but that's obviously the biggest lie of all. He was a soldier, comes from a strong military family, and is military above all else. He wants to continue the war and possibly instigate new ones. He insists that we are winning the war in Iraq, when nothing could be further from the truth.
If anything, the major issue people are voting for Obama on is an end to the pointless war in Iraq and the safe return of our brave troops so that they can live to fight in a war that's actually worth their sacrifice.

I appreciate your thoughtful remarks. I too, have lived overseas, and have worked in America with people from other countries. You and I will just have to agree to disagree. As one whose behavior has never been influenced by "what people will think of me" I'm not an apologist for American foreign policy. America needs to put itself first and do what's best for America. Should we do that as diplomatically as possible and try to build consensus with our allies? Sure. But at the end of the day we should always do what's in our best interest. To act otherwise is not to serve the people of the US.

As for healthcare, yes, we do need to make it available and affordable to all Americans… but socialized medicine is not the way to go. Most Canadians and Brits I've spoken with are deeply unhappy with the care they recieve, and their access to it.

I personally will probably vote for Barack because Hillary will be on his side. If he doesn't make it on his own..I think, based on his ordeal with Georgia..he will seek advice. She is from Alaska and isn't culturally aware as Obama, or Hillary. So, you are trying really hard not to be of european descent? Many Hispanics are mexicans of SPANISH descent from the age of exploration. Of course, with DNA, we know that even most american indians are of european descent, which means plenty of europeans were out and about the world long before Columbus- like by thousands of years. So, you are trying really hard not to be of european descent? Many Hispanics are mexicans of SPANISH descent from the age of exploration. Of course, with DNA, we know that even most american indians are of european descent, which means plenty of europeans were out and about the world long before Columbus- like by thousands of years.
