Presidential hopeful John McCain is beating out Barack Obama in popularity.
McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention actually received more television viewers than Obama did last week at the Democratic party's event.
According to preliminary data from the Nielsen Media Research, McCain's speech on Thursday ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share, as opposed to Obama's 4.3 /7 average.
We wonder if once all the data comes in, if the numbers will change, but as of right now it seems more people are tuning in to watch McCain.
And according to reports, McCain's speech pulled in over 26% more viewer's than Obama's did.

The only reason I watched was to see how horribly he would deliver the speech. I was not let down. And I think it's dangerous to judge popularity by ratings. We know a bunch of democrats were checking out the competition and unfortunately count toward those ratings. GO OBAMA

I live in Wisconsin so this morning I took a drive to Cedarburg WI. I parked over a mile away and just followed the voices. You walked up this little hill and you could see the crowd down below it was a great feeling. They expected 8,000 people but there were close to 15,000. People of all ages, colors and walks of life. There was a great vibe in the air. After the event was over the McCain buses were pulling out and Senator McCain and Governor Palin made the bus driver stop, they got out of the bus and started shaking hands, taking pictures. These were the people who were about 4 blocks away, I was one of those people. We could not get in, they opened up the area at 8AM. There was a guy who got in line at 7:45 and missed getting in by three people. The secret service were freaking out, none of these people have gone through security. It didn't matter they kept on doing what they were doing.
I'm glad people are checking out both and I'm glad Mccain won. I hope people see the great man I see when I listen to him. Great job Mccain!

Think about this, its not that Mccain is popular. No one knew him or what he had to say, nobody knows his VP accept that she is in the news. So people tuned in out of curiousity of who these people were, what they had to say, and how they were going to defend themselves. I for one am a Obama supporter as well as a couple of my friends, and I watched the RNC. Not because I support what he says but because I was curious. Now if a poll was taken of how many democrats tuned in for the same reason, he probably didn't win. But congrats to his camp any way, controversey always boost ratings.

Gotta fill you in on this. There was an article recently that stated how obsolete Nielsen ratings are becoming due to newer technology, such as DVR. Republicans tend to cling a little harder to older times, while Dems tend to be more highly educated and technologically savvy. One can thus deduce that the "ratings" were higher only because more Repubs watched live while more Dems watched via different forms of media.
McCain is an adulterer, Palin needs to leave Willow at home with Grandma instead of dragging her to events so she can go to bed at a decent hour and to school with other children her age instead of showing her off as the only normal member of that family, Bristol should be known as the pregnant married 17 year old, instead of the one that will get married. They are all a bunch of hypocrites.

Hey Perez, you're forgetting that McCain had the NFL opener as his lead-in. On the flip-side, Obama was also broadcast on BET and another cable network. So the comparisons between the audiences are very skewed.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT HE HAS MORE SUPPORT! First off, I watched his speech just to be an educated voter…not because I like him or want to necessarily vote for him. Second of all, just off the top of my head, I know of 3 different Obama parties where people invited their friends over to watch Obama's speech. If you get 30 people at a party watching 1 TV, that counts as 1 TV, not 30…… Those rating systems are whack. Let's not act like this means anything special for McCain.

i really dont know how this works. but obama's speech was broadcasted on more networks then mccains. so it depends on where they are getting their ratings from.if they are getting it from cnn then they' are probably right becuase no one else broadcasted thr rnc. but i know of at least 2 other networks other then cnn that broadcasted obama.he is more diverse, that obama. mc cain isnt.now if the rating are all together, then it's only true becuase of palin. i wouldnt have watched if it werent for palin.it was just so interesting to find out who the hell she was. and she delivered. so people wanted to compare her to mccain.why did he pick her. im sure he isnt gonna win in the end tho.

People are uncertain about the aggressive nature of his foreign policy and want to know if his next moves will one day involve them. Also, Obama AND the liberal media exposure combined with the simple fact that there are so many outlets to GET information has made it easier for Obama to expound the fact that the economic policies of this country have failed us and that the citizens are not reaping the rewards in a more efficient manner. Re: jlenoconel – bush has messed up big time, everyone knows that, but i honestly cant see mccain doing the same thing as him. look at him crackin jokes on bush and how he is distancing himself from the whole republican party because bush messed up so bad. obama just likes to hear himself talk and has no experience to change anything in this country for the better. john has all the experience needed along with a new pitbull, palin, by his side. obama is raising taxes to solve the issues of this country. that is his whole plan. our economy is so shitty right now no one is out buying things or doing anything anymore because no one can afford it, imagine getting taxed double what you're making now! that leaves people with even less money!! mccain doesnt want to add anymore taxes, but instead give money so you can SPEND IT, which will help our economy. it's the only way things will get better. mccain is a hero to this day and i think we need someone strong like that to run our country.

orrr how come you dont ever hear about the crime rate of black people?! you only hear about the crime white people have against black people. well a national study (FACT) shows that in the past year 3% of hate crime from white people were commited against black people but there was 45% hate crime from a black person commited to a white person. you never hear about that because black people always single themselves out.

People are tuning into watch him because McCain actually has something to say, whereas Obama is shady. They don't want someone who was a community organizer or in the senate for less than 200 days-they need someone with experience and who's proven himself to this country time and time again…unlike Obama, McCain can detail what CHANGE is and HOW to get there. Obama's solution to all of our country's problems are more taxes, more taxes, and more taxes.
