MTV's VMA Ratings Rocked

2008's MTV Video Music Awards delivered!
In the key 18-34 demographic, this year's show ratings were 15% higher than the 2007 broadcast and 41% higher than the 2006 edition.
The show was also the highest-rated telecast on all of cable in the 12-34 demo this year.
Dayum!
We guess casting the unknown Brit comic Russell Brand didn't bite the net in the ass!
MTV.com also saw a boost this year.
Its VMA-related pages delivered more than 10 million page views, a 110% increase over last year.
But, y'all know there's a certain someone MTV needs to tip its hat to for the massive ratings.

I dont know what show all you were watching but the VMAs sucked. The host russell brand was the worst. If i wanted any political views i would watch Fox. And to come over here from the UK and bash our president is not the way to be welcome here.
Part of that boost was from TWILIGHT fans…seriously! I would NEVER have tuned in to the VMAs, but MTV heavily promoted the fact that the Twilight cast was showing up…

UGH… the awards were horrible. I recorded it and couldn't make it thru half when I sat down to watch it. It gets worse every year! Soooo sad! I remember when the VMA's used to be the shit!
Actually Mtv had about 3500 complaints about Russell Brand as the host. THey set up a hotline because they had so many complaints. He needs to go back to the UK and stay there.
This is the first time i've actually took the time to watch the VMAs, and the only reason i did was to watch Tokio Hotel win best new artist, otherwise i wouldn't have bothered to tune in…

I tuned in last year to watch Britney Spears. I knew her performance was going to be a major train wreck and I couldn't help but watch. Heck, I watched that performance over and over and over again it was so funny. This year? Not so excited to see her say welcome to the show. Didn't bother to watch.

people only tuned in because the cast of Twilight were presenting something…and that is why MTV.com has a big spike, because of their Twilight Tuesdays.
but on another note, britney did look stunning, but i dont think she is the reason people tuned it.

i tuned in to watch Brit, but Brand kept me entertained. MTV's PR stunt to revive Brit made me sick, but said things we as Americans are scared to think of. Most of us do not dare turn a critical eye to our system, but Brand laid it out there to that key demographic. I was amazed. He was great, insightful, and aware.
I think Lil Wayne made the show.

I did watch it because I thought britney was gona do a performance or something but that didnt happen..the host sucked tho and once he started to endorse obama i turned it off. i was there to hear music..but i wasnt suprised that the liberal network tried to push their views on young americans once again..one reason i dont watch mtv any longer. its crap! britney rocks and i hope she performs soon. she still looked nervous and unsure amongst the crowd. get a better venue and better host next year mtv..oh and how about something other than hip hip artists who sound like crap and pushing emo music..u know you dont like it so just stop.

Yeah, I watched the Packers show the NFL that they are going to be okay without Brett. It was such an exciting game too. I rather watch something that has a position labeled "tight end" because usually it is.

I think the awards were kind of boring and uneventful this year. Where will all the big names/bands/singers of past?? I wish MTV would go back and redo the award show like they did a few years back, circe 2001-ish (huge venue, big crowds, many respected musicians, etc). I was upset that I couldn't see Katy Perry and others perform their songs, too. I did here from a few people that Britney's awards were bought and paid for by her management team (Moorefan) to further the comeback thing. I think that makes sense considering I have never heard the song she won for on the radio and I live in a major market. I have to say the other people totally deserved those awards.

Honestly, the ratings probably went up because of all the Twilight fans. We all wanted to see the cast introduce Paramore.
thats really hard to believe considering how bad Russell Brand was. He will go down as THE worst host ever. The set was very cheap looking and the show had poor direction. Im thinking Britney and the Jonas Brothers were the only reason anyone watched that trash. I turned it after 15 minutes because I was embarassed for Brand and the uncomfortable feel from the audience.

What is it with people and Britney's "comeback"? If you've seen one slutted up, gyration heavy, skimpy outfit wearing, bumping and grinding, overengineered "music" with backing tracks you've seen them all. These acts are a dime a dozen now. They think they are being edgy and "sexy" but they are overexposed talentless hacks that are 90% image and 10% talent. Most of these "musicians" today don't even play instruments.

i watched the vma's because it's something i've been doing for a little over fifteen years. 2008 VMA'S WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER IF RUSSELL BRAND DID NOT HOST THEM. i don't know what it was about that guy, but he made me want to switch off the tv!

I totally watched for Brit Brit! And she looked amazing! However, Russell Brand ROCKS! He is so funny and it was nice to see him live and not weeks later on the BBC chanels. Cheers!

A) I guarantee you most of those who tuned in did so because of the buzz surrounding Britney Spears and her possible performance (I know that's why I did).
B) If it weren't for that, I guarantee you the show would have bombed because it was complete CRAP this year and ESPECIALLY CRAPPY for being the 25th anniversary of the awards!
