Boycott Oprah?

A group of Republican women from Florida is boycotting the Oprah Winfrey show.
Their reason?
Because Momma O won't have Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin on her show until after the elections are over.
Well, Oprah is not going to have ANYONE who's running for the White House on her show until the elections are over, including Barack Obama.
Oprah did have Obama on her show twice in the past, though that was before he was running for president.
Maybe if Palin was important enough, she would have been on the show before as well!
The vice president for the group organizing the boycott, Cindry Graves, says that that Palin "is an icon, and set her herself up to be such a women's rights and women's issues person. To have the first vice president of our lifetime on the Republican ticket being a woman and to sit it out regardless of what her personal political beliefs were was disingenuous, we felt."
That reasoning doesn't make any sense.
They're basically saying Palin should deserve special treatment and get on Oprah because she's the first female candidate running for VP in the Republican party.
People can easily argue that Obama should go on the show since he's the first African American candidate to make it this far.
Oprah is just trying to be fair.
In fact, Oprah even said, "I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."
We agree with Oprah. If she said no one running in the election will go on her show now, then she shouldn't make an exception for Palin.

That is just an ubelievably unkind and flippant remark. You know nothing about me. If you did, you would know that I volunteered at a children's shelter full-time for an entire year, working there nights so it would impact my own family less.

I am pro-choice (not that I don't think abortion is murder, just that I think it's not the government's business) and Sarah is not, but I'll be voting for McCain anyway because I am not a one-issue voter, because I believe he is the right man at the right time for the job, and because I admire his choice of running mate - a woman who can raise a family and have a successful career in politics. Besides, Roe v. Wade will never be overturned. Liberals always underestimate the numbers of pro-choice conservatives and just see one stark, fear-inducing concept… conservative = evil and against absolutely everything liberals hold dear - when that simply is just not so.

I really don't think she needs Oprah to become more famous then she is. In just 2 weeks she has become one of the most famous women in the world. I just heard that she has single handedly brought glasses back in style and is being compared to the very understated and stylish Jackie Kennedy. So not only is she intelligent, beautiful, gutsy, and wholesome, but she's an instant icon.

There was a period of time where I was a working single-mom of one with no family support. I am now a married working mom of three. I don't depend on the government to help me out with my business in any way, and never have.

I guess it just depends on what kind of "working mom" you are. Are you self-sufficient, hard-working, and a problem solver with regard to childcare, etc.? Or, do you expect the government's help to make meeting your personal commitments and choices easier?

I boycotted Oprah the minute she endorsed Obama and I'm a registered Democrat. I don't vote strictly party, I gather information first then vote. I don't care who Oprah votes for, but when 98% of her audience are women and white women make up the majority of her studio audience, she needs to stay impartial as a talk show host. You can't say you are for women, women's rights and then turn around and bash Hillary, Palin, and put your money on a black man that no one ever heard of. I believe all celebrities need to keep their mouths shut and not endorse candidates.
