Seeing as how I am NOT a nurse - only a living, breathing person interested in living a long, healthy life in which I can enjoy my family and the fruits of my labors - I understand very well that I am not a qualified spokesperson on the issue of healthcare. I also know that I am not an asshole. Asshole being defined as "a person who does not believe what they see" in this instance.
Socialized medicine with a heaping dose of preventative care incentives has worked and is working for countries the world over. I'm not the kind of person who can see it, turn my back and convince myself that it's all smoke and mirrors while behind the scenes those people are dying by the millions while waiting for lumpectomies. Sure that fat bastard you talked about got what was comin, but for every fat bastard there's 5 unlucky bastards who will get the shaft from their long-standing health insurance providers when a major expense rears it's head. Meanwhile our politicians start waving a big red commie flag in our faces with one hand while the other hand's shoved in those same provider's pockets as soon as people start asking why those that we care about have to choose between life and financial ruin.

Guess what??? It sucks. They actually have town lotteries to see who gets to have a primary care provider. Know why?… because the docs get paid by the government so they cap their patient list. Wait for months and months for surgery. I had two friends die of cancer last year. And I'm only in my 30's. So, in regards to your earlier post…. why don't you move to France and live with the other douches.

This is off topic, but with regard to China, I watched a PBS documentary last night on the student uprising in 1989. The events of that year are even more fascinating viewed through the lens of almost 20 years of history. Chinese leadership is evil. I agree with you there, even if not on much else.

From what I understand of Canada's healthcare system, the reason current conditions exist is because of a half- implemented and inadequate reform of Ontario healthcare sytem by the Tory gov't that closed hospitals and ER rooms w/o putting the necessary replacements supports in place i.e. homecare. Also b/c of your ecenomy, Canada is short nurses and can't reopen hospital beds b/c of the nurse shortage. Now your life expectancy according to WHO ( World Health Orhganization is ranked # TWO compared to the US which is ranked # TWENTY FIVE!!! Canada also spends in terms of h/c $3300 per person for ALL it's citizens in comparison to the U.S. That spends $7000 per person and NOT everyone is covered. This info can be found on the Council of Canadians website. The waiing list for surgeries also tends to be longer if you are in an area heavily populated with private clinics. Most physicians are in private practice & accept fee- for- service Medicare ptmnt rates set by the gov't. This info can also be found on www.phnp.org and WHO.int ( world health Organization)

Well all I know is that it's a mess. I was home last summer and there was a story on the news about a guy in the hospital that had to have his portable bed in the shower because there was no space. Everytime someone had to shower he had to be wheeled out. I know people back home that have waited months for cancer surgery. My nephew moved out of province, when he moved back his doctor wouldn't take him back. Now he has to go to a walk-in or ER instead. Canada only has 25 million people….. Can you imagine the US trying that with 250 million??

Yeah I know Canada has a population of only 30 million, however; as I said Universal Healthcare DIFFERS and the US has to choose the formula it would employ. COnsidering the fact that your Life expectancy is #TWO to our TWENTYFIVE, Canada could have been in worse shape. Now I personally like France, Germany and Japan's Universal healthcare plan and since the US has the funds it is definately doable.
