Uh oh!

Rose McGowan has been in Toronto promoting her new film, Fifty Dead Men Walking, an adaptation of IRA informer Martin McGartland's autobiography.

In a new interview, the fiery actress told reporters that she would have joined the extremist Irish group, the IRA, if she had lived in Belfast during the 'Troubles'. She also went on to say that her "heart just broke for the cause".

Boy, oh boy, has she caused a stir across the Pond!

A spokesperson who works with an organization that help victims of the IRA says, "She may as well add that she would have joined al-Qaeda and flew those planes into the twin towers had she been born a disgruntled Muslim."

Peace and love, y'all. Peace and love.

I used to like her but now she can go to hell for what she said!! As part of a southern irish family i can just say you evil person you must be extremly stupid to even conder feeling sympathy for those foul people!!

  20. 20

Stupid ass bitch. IRA are terrorists, the man who works with victims of the IRA attacks makes a damn solid point. And to the moron who said the English army is out of Northern Ireland are you stupid? N. Ireland is a part of Britain it's not the English army it's the British army!

  21. 21

seperated at birth? her and hilary duff?

  22. 22

ireadtheblog4thecomments, get a fucking history book.

Her dress in that picture is fabulous, despite the idiotic comments she made!

  23. 23

two very different wars…….can't be compared.

  24. 24

Back in the early 1900's being a member of the IRA was something to be proud of - my Grandfather was a member, but by the late 1900's it was a group that brought shame to those who were members & were members to fight injustice - they were not terrorists like they are now & were during Martin McGartland's time. Have to wonder what era of the IRA McGowan sympathizes with ….

  25. 25

I think before people comment on what she says, they should research the IRA and Ireland. To outright say the IRA should be compared to Al-Qaeda is bullshit. Look at what hand the British had in it. There are no guys in white hats in this story.

  26. 26

Can't believe she said that…the comparison to Al-Qaeda is totally justified, they were glorified terrorists. Although, sad to say, I know a lot of people who support the IRA, which really irritates me as a Protestant living in a Catholic area. Thank God people are more accepting these days.

  27. 27

  32. 32

Is that a dress or a bed spread from the movie desperately seeking susan?

  33. 33

OMG I can't believe how many people hink that dress is gorgous! LOL! Tragic! Maybe thats high fashion in Omaha but in my opinion that dress is a Dead on arrival train wreck okay!

  34. 34

i think she looks like LILY ALLEN here

  35. 35

    Re: kickyourass666 – #10

Amen. And I don't ever pray unless I'm cramping horribly and afraid of death by gastrointestinal implosion but amen, lol

  36. 36

Oh, hun. Supporting the cause and supporting the IRA, two different ball games. The IRA willfully killed hundreds of people. Your heart "can just break for the cause" but that doesn't mean you should advocate an extremist group. I believe that Tony Blair was an idiot going into Iraq, but I also believe that the 7/7 bomber were murdering bastards, never mind if they called for the removal of troops. Get a clue!

  37. 37

The Mrs: "The Troubles" refers specifically to the 1960s onwards, when the IRA had definitely changed!

  38. 38

    yeah, "toublemaker" … toublemaker…

  39. 39

  41. 41

You mean she looks like Lindsay Lohan Hahaha

  42. 42

Re: M3chick – she's always had red hair

  43. 43

she's getting her acting mixed up with her real life… I wonder if she really thought she was a witch on Charmed!!!

  44. 44

    I'm on her side.
Yea the IRA did kill people and use guerrilla tactics.
But thats all anyone ever focuses on.
No one focuses on how for hundreds of years the english were on the irish island inflicting oppression on the irish people and how that heightened during the irish revolution of the 1920s and during the troubles.
Maybe that spokesperson should review her history and remember that on bloody sunday in 1972 that it was the english troops in northern ireland that started the horrific murders of that day and the irish catholics being harmfully targeted were just fighting back the english. even though they were defending themselves against the english attackers, the catholics and IRA got blamed for bloody sunday.
the point is the troubles are a two way street.
rose has every right to express how she feels just as there are people who would express that they would have been one of the enlgish killing the irish catholics in northern ireland.
its unfair how one sided this issue is.

some may say this isnt a site that i should be talking about stuff like this on but its something i really care about and i would have said the same thing as rose. infact, i have.

  45. 45

It isn't wrong to identify with the IRA during the troubles. LATER the IRA was bad. Look at the history. England was TERRIBLE to Ireland. They pretty much caused the famine. There was plenty of food in Ireland during the famine. The poor just couldn't afford it as the English stole their land. MILLIONS died. Look up the atrocities of the black and tans. Both side were equally bloody. I would have joined the IRA during the troubles. It was a bloody war on both sides.

  46. 46

The major difference between the IRA and Al Queda, is that the IRA was fighting for their own right to exist on their own land. Al Queda, on the other hand was using terror to further their extremist ideals upon the U.S. and Western culture in general. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

  47. 47

I am with jupiter girl about how there are both sides of the situation here but I am going to take it a bit further~ In the beginning they were protecting that little thing we call rights.

Again two sides but I don't think what she said is that big of a deal.

    Hey geniuses look it up.

  48. 48

Well, if the UK is offended, their ancestors should have thought long and hard before they stole part of someone else's country and CONTINUED to harass them for centuries later. People can only take so much. And just so you have some idea what she is talking about, the "orangemen" in Belfast STILL have over 100 parades a year where they march through the streets of Catholic neighborhoods celebrating how they took the homes and land away from these people. Ian Paisley himself was known to go right up to the windows of Catholic homes and make faces at the people inside. If you think her comments are off-base YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!! I hate to spread the rage, because the Irish Catholics (saints) have gone to great lengths to burry the hatchet for the good of all — Israel could take a lesson from them.

  49. 49

Re: getlostdancing – I felt bad speaking up here, too, because the only way of stopping this legacy of hate and war is to stop talking about it. In that vein I should say that a lot of Irish Catholics feel what Rose said and just don't speak it.

  50. 50

ughhhhh… this bitch doesn't know what she is talking about. she needs to shut her trap and just TRY to act.

  51. 51

I study Irish history. The brits have treated the Irish like total shit for over 800 years. The IRA was originally founded by Michael Collins, a true Irish patriot who spoke fluent Gaelic. Collins went on to secure the Irish Free state which is known as The Republic today. Granted the IRA did go too far later on in their existence with their theories on expanding collateral damage in order to achieve their goals and there were so many factions and splinter groups that eventually the IRA leadership could not possibly keep control over what these different factions were doing. We kicked the brits out of colonial america so I hardly think anyone should judge the Irish too harshly for wanting to do the same in their country especially in light of the savage treatment the Irish have suffered because of draconian british policies.

  52. 52

"The Troubles" refers specifically to the 1960s onwards, when the IRA had definitely changed! Re: dweezil

Exactly. The 70's being some of the worst years. The IRA did degenerate into a corrupt organization. They were even going after fellow Catholic Irish Nationalists.

  53. 53

Re: englishgirl – are u always this stupid- or is this an off day for you?- The IRA are NOT trouble makers-they are fighting for an Ireland free- The EVIL SICK british who defiled the land, wiped out the Irish-Gaelic language, and forced by punishment of DEATH, to make the Irish more "English". Your stupity is is heart wrenching- if you are a "southern irish" girl as you so claim i feel nothing but pity for you- youve lost your identity- youve lost what they, the brave men, have fought for, EVERYONE WHO THINKS THAT THE BRITISH ARE CORRECT AND THE IRISH ARE THE EVIL THEN PLEASE PLEASE PLEAAAAAAAAASE WATCH THIS MOVIE "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" it is ALL based on true stories-your minds will change
"I'm a democrat. In the last election Sinn Fein won 73 seats out of a possible 105. Our mandate for an Irish Republic completely seperate from Great Britain, a Democratic decision." 54

Seriously Perez, you just soak up whatever North American media feeds you. There was a reason the IRA resorted to violence. They were fucking repressed by the English for hundreds of years. Pick up a bloody history book. I am not saying that violence was the right way to go but the British unionists resorted to a shitload of violence as well. The IRA was deemed "terrorist" by the British media. If the Irish media had had more power and influence then the unionists would be seen as "terrorists" too. I agree with Rose. If I had been alive back then, I would have been for Republican cause. Not all Republicans resorted to violence back then and a majority did not support the IRA. Rose did not say she supported the IRA and violence. But of course this is typical of you to distort a quote and turn it into something bad.

  55. 55

    Re: o0oIrelandActresso0o

    Cead mile failte.
Let's not forget the confiscation of land by the english, the evictions of tenant farmers by cruel landlords, the diplock courts, the gerrymandering, the withholding of access to and application for government jobs from the catholic Irish as a way to control votes. Famine? There was no famine. There was food in Ireland but there were laws passed that the Irish could only eat potatoes. If an Irishman was caught "poaching" any fish or fowl they would be thrown in prison for an irrational number of years and their families would 've been evicted.
    Dia duit.

  56. 56

    Re: Cottonquinn
And the English taking away everything Irish like- including any social gatherings-to call the Irish the terrorist is ignorance, know the facts, not just the English's side of the story- The Irish fought back for a country they love-&& im sooo glad they did!- it was said correctly in the movie 'the wind that shakes the barley', what were they supposed to do?-ignore the english taking over their lives-telling them who to be what to eat who to speak to
    i support the cause!

    Slán agus beannacht leat!!!!
    An bhfuil Gaeilge agat?
    Tá cúpla focal agam.

  57. 57

The conflict between Ireland and Britain is very complicated and has been going on for hundreds of years. Whatever your beliefs, I don't think that you can comment on the situation until you know all the facts which most North Americans do not. The IRA is a terrorist organization now that has committed many atrocities. They have no support from the Irish people. During the War of Independence in 1922, they were a completely different organization that people were proud to be a part of because they were fighting to win back their country from hundreds of years of English rule. The amazing thing is, the Republic of Ireland and N. Ireland have been able to put the troubles in the past and move on. Rose McGowan should have carefully thought about her comments and specified which period of time she sympathized with the IRA.

  58. 58

    Re: o0oIrelandActresso0o
I agree with the person above, watch The Wind That Shakes the Barley. It is an amazing film and will help you understand how the IRA used to be and how persecuted the Irish were. By the way, the IRA are not called the IRA anymore. they are now the Real Irish Republican Army ( RIRA ). On the flip side, watch the movie Omagh, about the bombing by the RIRA in the Northern Irish town Omagh where 29 people died in 1998 including a woman pregnant with twins. It will show what the IRA became.

  59. 59

What a muppet. That is just so entirely socially and morally wrong. I was born into and lived trough “the troubles” the average terrorist on either side of the fight was not killing for any cause, they were killing because hate was ingrained in them from birth, because generations of hate had come before. They were killing for the sake of killing. Little kids being heckled, spat at and abused on the walk to school because they had no choice but to walk down a street that supported the opposing side. You couldn’t be neutral, if you went to that school, you would be hated. If you married into the opposing religion you were a clear target for violence from both sides.

  60. 60

I lived in a town that was part of the murder triangle of “the troubles”. I remember walking into town with my Grandmother at the age of six and having a bomb go off behind us, it was normal and we carried on with our day. I remember that every time a helicopter would fly low overhead that I as a young child knew there was trouble going on somewhere, I remember walking to school past an army patrol and knowing something bad was going down in my town. Every time our town centre got rebuilt it was bombed down again. People were routinely ripped from their beds in front of their families, taken away by men in masks never to come home again. So do not tell me this was a thing to applaud, a thing to be excited about joining in with. This silly little actress would crap her pants if a bomb went off within ten miles of her, never mind round the corner.

  61. 61

sorry, just want to specify, in my first post I meant that now the IRA is a terrorist organization. It wasn't then.

  62. 62

I wasn’t born into a family that didn’t buy into choosing sides, we all of us at one time or another had friends who were of the other side, friends who like us didn’t buy into the hate game. The average Northern Irish person just wants to get on with their lives, choose a school for their children according to whether it is good, not on what religion is promotes, choose a job they regardless of how many Catholics or Protestants work there, walk down the street without worrying about whether the kerb stones are painted red, whit and blue or, green, orange and white.

On both side of the fight, the gangs involved have now turned their hands to protection rackets and drug dealing… that says it all.

    Unite don’t fight.

  63. 63

Maybe her comments would be in line if she knew what she was talking about! She clearly hasn't a clue of the negative outcomes caused by the terrorist actions of the IRA in the last 100 years. Sure anyone living in Ireland knows that would be an offensive comment. Now, thats not to say that originially the IRA didn't have good intentions or that the way the British treated the Irish was in any way ok. It was just a naive and ignorant comment from someone who should research the subject a bit more since she is acting in the film! But in the big scheme of things, shes grand and she obviously wasn't trying to offend any of us, she was trying to be sympathetic to us! She was just ill-informed as many non-Irish are on the subject.

  64. 64

She's an uneducated imbecile. She probably saw some romantic movie that mentioned the IRA and knows absolutely nothing about it. Actors/actresses should just shut the fuck up and just do their job, which is to speak the words other people write for them (aka acting). Why do they think their opinions are relevant is truely amazing to me.

  65. Kaitx says – reply to this

    65

Right, let's get a few things straight. first of all, "Ireland actress", is amadan mor thu. Nil tu abalta a thusiciant stair in aon chor, ta se sin fior. Eist do bheal. Your use of irish in your posts in non-sensical, "an bhfuil gaelige agat? ta cupla focal agam" that means "do you have irish? I have a few words." what the hell does that have to do with anything?! Don't comment on something you clearly know nothing about, you're probably some idiotic 12 year old boy bored at home.

Secondly, this dates back hundreds of years. None of us can grasp it fully, especially those who never had to live through it. Don't insult the hundreds, thousands of victims by making your stupid uninformed opinions known. I come from a southern irish catholic family(although I don't consider myself a catholic) and I bear the english no ill will. The past is the past, we have moved on from those horrific times and now the IRA have been decommissioned.

Finally, the IRA were TERRORISTS!!! Unless you think laying pipe bombs is not a terrorist act?

    GET A CLUE!!!

  66. 66

A lot of people had no choice but to turn to the IRA because of the harrassment and abuse of the british army on the streets of N.I. during the troubles. Its been said that the IRAs greatest recruiter was Thatcher because of her appalling policy decisions in relation to the North. This is a very complex issue but a lot of people will agree with what Rose McGowan has said here.

  67. 67

    Re: Kaitx
    woooow…
some one is a huffy little bitch

    68

fair play 2 her, the irish have suffered long enough at the hands of the British. i wonder who the spokesperson is…

  69. 69

Fucking witch!! She so feels for the IRA does she? Well, maybe someone should show her what the IRA actually liked to do and murder her family just because they go to the wrong church. See what she "feels" for them then. She should have made this comment in the UK then she would have got the attention she deserves!!

  70. 70

Funny how it's all the americans who say they've "studied" Ireland supporting the IRA. Have you even noticed that everyone from the UK (which Northern Ireland is a part of, by the way) is very much anti IRA?? Why the fuck do you think that is thick-shits?? You can read all the books you like, it can NEVER compare to living through something. You cannot justify what the IRA have done IN ANY WAY. The argument that the English did it first 800 yrs ago doesn't wash. Yes, back then the IRA's intentions may have been honourable - but during the "troubles" from the 1960's onwards there was no famine, no oppression by the English - just terrorism. You americans know nothing, there is soooo much more to it that you'll never read in any textbook. If you haven't lived through it don't even dare to comment.

  71. 71

The atrocities that the British committed against the Irish were TERRIBLE (i.e. Potato Famine), but you can't support terrorism. I agree with THEMRS - excellent recap.

  72. 72

Re: IHateVictoriaBeckham – I totally agree - living through it was no laugh at all - plus she should try saying that to the relatives of the victims of Omagh and Enniskillen - oh, and the parents of the 2 little boys they blew up whilst they were out shopping for Mothers Day presents.

  73. 73

Re: getlostdancing – How the hell could you say you agree!!
Ok during the ”troubles” An IRA extremist walked into my grandmothers house, picked up her NEW BORN baby and said ”let me search your house”. your so stupid its unreal, stop reading the ”I love the IRA” website and grow up!

  74. 74

Re: o0oIrelandActresso0o – Just to make a point i'm far from stupid. I find it quite funny that you tell people to watch a FILM to understand the IRA.
I've never said a bad word about the Irish thank you. All I said was the IRA were foul, which they were. Killing innocent people is ok in your eyes then?
And Ireland hasn't all been so great you know, I bet you didn't know that the irish language actually comes from the welsh language, they stole parts of it to make up there own, after they invaded wales. and lets not forget that During the war the Irish PM stuck up for Hitler and let war criminals into Ireland but wouldn't let Jewish people in.
So don't give me all that ”oh feel for the IRA”
My family are Irish, 90% of them anyway, and trust me not all of them are so proud of that fact, considering most of them moved to England, it can't be that bad over here.

  75. 75

A touchy subject, its a pity that her true opinion was reduced to a sound bite.
However the comparison between the IRA and Al-Qaeda is wrong and probably made for impact!

  76. 76

The IRA are cowardly terrorists who only understand violence (as are the UVF, UFF etc). I'm from the Republic of Ireland and I'm proud to say my grandfather fought with the Irish Army (then known as the IRB - Irish Republican Brotherhood). They fought for freedom from the British, nothing else. What the IRA did between the 60s until a few years ago was disgusting and shameful - killing innocent people (not the mention all those horses in Hyde Park!!). I have a cousin who 'donates' money to them and I have no contact with him because if it! He has blood on his hands as far as I'm concerned. Yes, what the English did to our ancestors was barbaric, but that was a long time ago. Lets' move on, I have - I married an Englishman :)

  77. 77

That ignorant bitch. I'm Irish and have seen the damage that the IRA have done here. She should really do her research before making comments like that.

  78. 78

Re: englishgirl – you are an idiot … Irish coming from Welsh, whoever told you that must know how gulliable and stupid, definately stooopid are now read this an educate yourself … but I think you probably won't understand it .. "During the Early Christian Period, expanding Irish tribes established settlements in southern Scotland and introduced their language and culture to the Picts. Saint Columba, from Derry, is believed to have converted the Picts to Christianity in the middle of the 6th Century. As the Irish strengthened their political, military and economic position, their language rapidly spread eastwards and northwards across Scotland. In modern Scotland that language is now called Gaelic and there are still many similarities between it and the Irish spoken in Ireland. The very term 'Scot' was first used by the Romans to describe raiding parties from Ireland and later became associated with the Irish abroad"

  79. 79

She is so stupid! Maybe if she knew the Americans funded the IRA to bomb England, then that might make her feel a bit better???

  80. 80

Re: Cottonquinn – erm, Eamon De Velara was the IRA, Michael Collins was the Free State Army. The IRA assinated Michael Collins so maybe read up on it before you say Collins founded the very army that killed him!!!

  81. 81

It's very easy to call the IRA "terrorists" and "scum." People in North America didn't live through the Troubles, so they don't fully understand just how awful it was for the Catholics/nationalists/republicans. Catholics were demanding equal rights in the late 1960s (sound familiar, America??), and the British beat them, hauled them off to prison WITHOUT TRIAL and even murdered them (read up on Bloody Sunday).

The IRA (who DO NOT speak for ALL Irish nationalists) were defending their national identity from a foreign entity - one that had been torturing and abusing them on their own land for over 800 years.

By that same standard, you could argue that it's a dumbass thing to say you would pick up a gun in the American Revolution.

  82. 82

english girl, you need to get a clue, for somebody who is from a southern irish family you wouldn't even have a clue what people in the north went through, you say the ira are nothing but foul but what about the uvf etc, all the fighting was done on irish soil so you cant even say the ira terrorised the english people like we have been terrorised, you are nothing but a west brit and you should cop onto what our people have been through the last 900 years, get yourself a history book, and lastly ur fighting with americans who you know have no clue about the cause, you should actually look into what has happened to irish people by the hands of the british

  83. 83

The girl is obviously not so bright is she?

If you want to romaticise about the 'Troubles' please go ahead. If you wish to have infantile and inaccurate accounting of history please feel free.

This British were bad Irish good doesn't wash with most of us from the Irish Republic. Irish have a history unlike America, but for agruments sake lets follow a number of trivialisations that have been made.

IRA were fighting for their rights, so are Al Queda.
The British invaded Irish land, isn't that what you did to the native Americans.
British did the potato famine… yeah they had really mastered the isolation of the fungi and introduced it into the crop… just thick

Even I enjoy the odd rebel song, this doesn't make stupidity right.

If you are going to try to understand history, you have to understand both sides of the argument.

What is not funny however is the terrorists carrying out knee capping, murder of people in shopping malls, bombs to public servants, placing bombs in Warrington killing children in prams, the murder of journalists. The bank robberies and drugs sales for arms.

Many people suffered during this time so learn a degree of senstivity and back off with the bellacose rhetoric.

Sponge - sorry English Girl is right partially.

The expression 'beyond the Pale' comes from the lands around Dublin that was settled by native English & Welsh following the Norman invasions and expansion in England.

These lands were known as English lands for over 700 years. Anything beyond the Pale was primarily Celt, Pict and Scot.

Call someone from Dublin English now and you would probably punched in the face.

  85. 85

What an utter moron. Has she no idea how many people the IRA murdered? They were terrorists and many innocent people lost their lives.

  86. 86

    Publicity stunt mayhaps?

lets not get excited or offended by an ignorant/ill-informed celeb anyway.

  87. 87

    We'll sing a song, a soldier's song,
    With cheering rousing chorus,
As round our blazing fires we throng,
    The starry heavens o'er us;
    Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we wait the morning's light,
Here in the silence of the night,
    We'll chant a soldier's song.

    Chorus:

    Soldiers are we
    whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
    Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
    Sworn to be free,
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal,
    We'll chant a soldier's song.

In valley green, on towering crag,
    Our fathers fought before us,
And conquered 'neath the same old flag
    That's proudly floating o'er us.
We're children of a fighting race,
That never yet has known disgrace,
And as we march, the foe to face,
    We'll chant a soldier's song.

    Chorus

Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale!
    The long watched day is breaking;
    The serried ranks of Inisfail
    Shall set the Tyrant quaking.
    Our camp fires now are burning low;
See in the east a silv'ry glow,
Out yonder waits the Saxon foe,
    So chant a soldier's song.

    Chorus

    Re: CassieD
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! How in the name of God can you translate Amhran na bhFian into English? That's just so wrong! It will only ever be sung in Irish. Don't get me wrong I'm not a Rebel or anything I just think some things are sacred. Aaaaight.

  91. 91

OMG…OK IM FROM NORTHERN IRELAND AND THAT WAS SO INSULTING IT IS UNREAL…IM CATHOLIC (LIKE MOST PEOPLE IN THE IRA WUDDA BEEN) BUT WTF WAS SHE THINKING! I HONESTLY DONT KNOW ANYONE HERE WHO WOULDNT TAKE OFFENCE TO THAT. THE IRA MURDERED MANY PEOPLE…THE WERE A TERRORIST GROUP NOT SAINTS!!!

  92. 92

My grandparents live in Northern Ireland–my (step)grandfather was framed and jailed by the IRA for YEARS. My grandmother, who was unhappily married and living in NY was sending letters to this man in prison and fell in love with him. She divorced my blood grandfather, moved to Ireland, married him in the courts and waited for him to be rightfully released from jail.

I met my step grandfather a few years ago for the first time and do you know what he said he did to the man who framed him after he was released from jail?

    He said he killed him.

I think Rose McGowan is beautiful and lovely, but I don't approve of that statement. I don't think anything could make what the IRA did right…EVER. There is no excuse for the murdering of tons of innocent people. And it doesn't matter if she was married to Marilyn Manson–that man is a fucking genious and would NEVER agree with her statement in a thousand years. And I am not saying that because I like his music, because I don't…but Youtube the interview with him by Henry Rollins. He's insanely smart!

  93. 93

Re: grace-e – OK MAYBE ONLY PEOPLE WHO STUDY IRISH HISTORY (LIKE ME) OR PEOPLE FROM IRELAND SHOULD COMMENT ON THIS POST CAUSE SOME AMERICANS JUST DONT HAVE A CLUE…

BASICALLY THE IRA MURDERED MANY INNOCENT PEOPLE … THEY MAY HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR CATHOLIC RIGHTS BUT THAT STILL DOESNT EXCUSE THEIR BEHAVIOUR

AND THERE WERE OTHER ORGANISATIONS WHO WERE FIGHTING FOR CATHOLIC RIGHTS WHY DOESNT SHE SAY THAT SHE WUDDA JOINED THEM!?

  94. 94

Re: asmith3391 – INTERESTING THAT U SAID THE "SOUND FAMILIAR AMERICA" CAUSE THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT HERE WAS INFLUENCED BY THE AMERICANS!

  95. 95

    He's an idiot! No Comparison!
Rose can say whatever She wants!!

  96. Poppy says – reply to this

    96

american's really have no clue about current affairs or history of anyone but their big bad selves do they? sure i see where she's coming from, but unfortunatly "the cause" increasingly became a great little excuse for drug dealing and gunrunning, all in the name of raising money for the cause. the cause breaks many peoples hearts, and the IRA break many people's kneecaps.

  97. 97

some people have 2 luk up their history - i dont understand y the IRA gets blamed 4 all the troubles - wat about the UDA, UFF, UVF?????????? I live in belfast and hav experienced the troubles 1st hand and have had family killed due 2 the UVF but no1 mentions them - so when ur family is killed by those bastards then yeah i wud join the IRA

  98. 98

Awful comparison. the IRA and Al-Qaeda are nothing alike.
People should learn some Irish history before they make comments like that.

  99. 99

Get your Irish history straight, people! Do you remember Bloody Sunday and the Stalker Commission? The British Army was sent in to protect the Catholic minority, who had the audacity to want civil rights. They faced discrimination daily in housing and employment. When they had the nerve to want 'One Man, One Vote' their peaceful marches were met with violence - mostly by the RUC (police) who later teamed up with and worked in cahoots with - the British Army.
And who was there to protect the minority? Not the police. Not the British Army.
I am not an advocate of violence and I do not condone the IRA and their violence, but you have to understand the political - and economic climate - of Northern Ireland in the 1970s and 1980s. And, for Englishgirl, Southern Ireland - or the Republic of Ireland as it is known since it gained it's independence from ENGLAND (don't get me started on that imperialistic, brutal colonizer)- and Northern Ireland may as well be on different islands, they are that different. These days with the EC making all up the United States of Europe things are a little different. But prejudices die hard and as long as Ian Paisley spouts his poison rhetoric there will always be conflict and bias.
