Madonna's Wembley Gig Crucified by Fans

We love her, but - by many accounts - Madonna failed miserably to impress her non-A-list fans at her London concert on Thursday.
In fact, a number of reports like this one and this one called the show a disaster!
We also received quite a few emails from disgruntled fans in attendance at Wembley.
Perezcious reader, John, tells us :
Was a disaster.
Noone could see the stage, or the video screens.
She came on 1 hour late, and couldnt be arsed. Mimed 98% of the gig and due to her being late, left 40,000 people stranded with no transport links in west london. Dont know about anyone else, but it took me 6 hours, 3 cabs, 6 buses and £100 to get home….
Another Perezcious reader, James, also expressed his displeasure with Madge:
…I wasnt prepared for the awful sound quality. When the show started everyone around me was shocked for the poor sound quality in the stadium. All we could hear was a buzzing noise. I couldnt understand what she was saying and it took me about a minute into each song to actually understant what song she was singing. Also watching her singing in the screens i realised that the sound was coming to us with 1-2 seconds delay. It was just a big awful mess. I dont know how the sound was in the arena area but on the upper stands of the stadium the sound was appauling. And we aint talking about a few hundreds of people being affected. Around 30.000 people must have been sitting on the upper stands. Also the atmospehere because of that and because of the stage being so far was really cold amongst the fans. You know the feeling when you are passing outside a concert and you can just here the songs with that buzzing noise? It felt like that and it didnt feel like we were inside a concert event. People around me started leaving just after 45 minutes (of a 2 hour show) and just after the hour they were leaving in masses, You could see the dissapointment. For such a bad sound and visual quality you would expect tickets on the upper stands to go for $20-30 just to fill the space. But instead tickets were going for $150 to $300. Seems that Madonna knowing that her fans would kill for a ticket and sell out the venues, replaced the quality of "smaller" arenas of 25.000 people with the quantity of 80.000 stadiums. I also left before the show ended. I read that she was really angry when their were problems with her giant screens in her concert in Nice as she is a perfectionist. I would forgive it if the screens werent working in London. But to not be able to hear the music in a music concert is really unforgivable.
James also went on to say that the UK's Times review was on point when it wrote:
Madonna was least convincing when she grabbed a guitar for a rock remake of Borderline and a dreadful Ray of Light marred by shrill, brittle vocals that surfaced sporadically throughout the 90-minute set. She even spoilt Hung Out with faux metal guitarist antics that set women in rock back about eight years.
In its review of the Madge gig, The Daily Mail also makes mention of the transportation problems fans faced due to her late start.
It really sucks to be a regular Joe.
Hope Madge has a long think about things and won't screw the little guy over in her upcoming shows!

Yep, heard about it this morning on the radio, on the way here. Not a fan, but I already (like a true gay idiot would) spent my $450 for her Miami concert! I have to see her at least once. It says so in the gay manual. Chapter 9, paragraph B, section 4, item #2.

As always, Andy27 is sooo humorous. I'm not a fan but I would've thought that the visual, if she could've been seen at least, would've compensated for poor sound quality. But not being able to see or hear? Sounds like a huge refund would've been in order.

I was at the show last night and had no problems hearing or seeing the show. My tickets were on the pitch standing and everyone around me was dancing. I feel bad for anyone who couldn't hear or see properly, but from where I was standing it was a fantastic show!
i was at the show last night and i personally thought it was amazing! the only problem was the late start as it ment that it took hours to get home, but apart from that i mean you can never see much at shows anyway if your standing but i could see the video screens… Madge rocks

There has been a drastic shift in Madonna's career thanks to the GREED of LIVE NATION. Madge made a deal with the devil, and now she has to pay them back. I'm a HUGE fan and seeing the show x3–at least she is giving American fans proper respect. I'm seeing her at the Izod Center in NJ which is a great more intimate venue. I don't think Miami and LA fans are going to be happy with her stadium gigs there.
Madge, I love you, but LIVE NATION is just greedy, and your fans know they are bilking us for as much money as they can. This is NO way to do business–but it looks like that the way things are moving in the industry. I'm seeing Tina and Janet, and will let you know how those go.
Also — no one really wants to hear ROL, Hung Up (tired), Spanish Lesson…six songs from Hard Candy is plenty. We want new stuff mixed with older hits that aren't tired already. Dress You Up, Where's the Party?, Causing a Commotion, Justify My Love, Open Your Heart……even La Isla, which I love, feels tired. I am VERY excited to hear You Must Love Me, the arrangement is beautiful. I'm sure I will have a blast, but Madge, take control of LIVE NATION, and listen to the fans more. Wembley is a bitch at night. I remember having to leave a good concert early and run to the tube to catch the last train into the city. London, really needs 24 hour train service. Can't have this still going on for 2012.

THIS IS BOLLOCKS! I was there last night and was sat near the back and I heard everything perfectly and could identify every song. I had a full view of the people stood on the floor area and the seating stand AND PEOPLE WERE NOT LEAVING UNTIL THE SHOW ENDED. She put on an AWESOME show and deserves the credit for this.
However the transport problems were huge, it took us an extra 2 hours to get home than it should have done.
BUT THE SHOW WAS INCREDIBLE AND I WAS SAT NEAR THE BACK AND THERE WAS NO SOUND DISTORTION AND I COULD IDENTIFY EVERY SONG.
She sucks. Her arms look like a plastic action figure.

I really hate waiting for a concert to start - the 'artist' has no feelings for the fans. She should have apologized and offered something up. Other people have sang at Wembley successfully-does she have cheap equipment? I am sorry, but I think anyone who pays over $200 to watch a concert from the top section is nuts. that said, they should still have been able to hear everything clearly. What was with that group, just getting up and leaving. Should have reacted somehow, with going to the box office and demanding a refund(I know, they won't get one), booing, shouting, something so Madge there would react somehow. Just leaving, gets bad press, but she got her money, so screw that fans.

Replying to lukey_uk: all I can say is that you were in a lucky spot. Check the reviews elsewhere, so many people saying the same thing means they can't be wrong. They heard what they heard, and that was 'very poor sound'. Just consider yourself lucky that it sounded good to you.
Futhermore, a woman at age 50 should not be dressed like that, no matter how good her shape. It's just not right.

I am not surprised. That magical red bracelet convinced her that she was owed everything she ever got- that's why she loves kabbala- and the result is, she thinks she is destined for all the riches she can get- so that sense of it being owed to her means that she just doesn't have to try that hard. what difference does it make to her?? The late start didn't particularly bother me. Her performance and the stage layout however did. We had top price seated tickets at the side of the stage and couldnt see her when she was on the main stage at all other than when she was at the very front. All the effects at the back of the stage were lost on us. Not only did we have a restricted view but her vocals were appalling. The one song she sang well was the Evita ballad. When her voice was going she would shout the lyrics at the audience. She mimed to several of the songs - and thank god she did because she was so badly out of tune and flat at times that miming probably saved her.
I saw the last tour and I loved it, she absolutely shone.
AFter last night I'm not sure I will ever want to see her live again.
The stage was badly set up so that a quarter of the audience would have had a restricted view and these people would be the ones who paid top prices for seats. The dancing was also shocking… it was unoriginal, lacklustre and very very disappointing.
A huge huge let down. Very very disappointing.

Well… this is what her brother wrote about in his book isn't it ?? She really is on her own planet and what would she know about trying to get home after a concert in LONDON !!! It's hell on earth, but she wouldn't have to worry about that because she was driven home in a limmo. I do actually like a lot of her music but she is overreated. I have seen her "live" and it's always too big !!! She should do a smaller arena tour so that people can actually say that they saw her, and not on a screen !!
