Re: mamajud – I am not your mama was not in any kind of reference to your own mother. God rest her soul, said with all due respect. It was more out of aggrevation. Two kids running circles in the living room, screaming their heads off and a 500 million page lab paper due on the effects of Thyroxine on a lab rat with no thyroid. Sorry, I was about to lose it. Anyways… You should no first hand how our medical system treats people. It makes me sad, figuring I will be in nursing school soon and working the very system I hate. There are other countries in this world that have universal healthcare. Canada, most european countries, etc. all have universal healthcare. No system is w/o flaw, look at our own. Ours is so EXPENSIVE &full of special interest. I believe future medical professionals (doctors, for the most part) should have a choice. You either have a paid for education by the government, work for gov't hospitals and offices w/ a 5 year contract OR pay for your own private school and go into private practice. It won't happen, but it's a good idea. Cuba and parts of S. America aren't the only ones with poor universal healthcare, LOL.

Re: Steink – I meant to say… Universal Healthcare doesn't just exist in impoverished countries

Re: Steink – hey steink…no offense taken…..we can agree on one point. I too hate the system we have to "work " with today. We disagree on the solutions. I just can't understand how we can even begin to discuss turning it over to the buffoons in DC………talk about special interests!! In due time…whomever ends up in the white house, will hopefully get the message, and get the ball rolling on true reform/change. I know, admitting that I will be voting for mccain leaves me open to attacks. The assumption tends to be that if you take sides, your some kind of extremist. I just want to do my civic duty…I'm making a choice between the remaining options. It's too bad that these days, the voices with the power to make choices for us in DC, echo the nonsense reflected by the "screamers" on boards like this one. Both parties have been hijacked by extremists, and until the voices of reason regain control, I want them as far away from my body as possible.
    .
.I hope you got your paper done…I give you credit for doing what you are. I can't imagine trying to focus on any kind of school work with the pressures of "real life"…..I am in awe of those who are able to go into the medical field. I would hate to see bureaucracies get in the way of your ability to practice your craft to it's full potential.

Re: Steink – p.s. One of my best friends is Canadian. She has recently watched her grandfather loose most of his face to cancer…..while he waits to get to the top of the list for treatment

While that is sad to read a/b your friend, I'm thinking they lve in an area of Canada w/ high privatized practices. Secondly, Canada mortality rate is TWO to our TWENTY FIVE!!!! And we are a wealthier nation than Canada. There are many different universal healthcare programs out there. The prob w/ Canada's system is that The Tory gov't half implemented an inadequate reform of Ontario's healthcare system that closed hospitals and emergency rooms w/o putting the necessary supports for homecare. Also, Canada's economy is thriving so Nurses do not want to back to that practice b/c the job is stressful & nurses r few in #. Canada only spends 9.2% of their GDP on H/C which is a very small sum. 80% of Americans in financial ruin is b/c of H/C! IfCanadaAustralia,Austria,Belgium.Finland,Denmark,France,Germany,Netherlands,Japan,Spain, Sweden to name a few can afford Univ/ H/c Why can't the states? all stats and info can be found via WHO ( world health Organization) and also on the Council of Canadians website.

Re: MINXLIVES – hi minx…it's funny, i'm trying to remember how i got involved in this conversation to begin with. I don't remember making any declarations on healthcare before i got called out as thinking it was some kind of a handout. Anyhoo….I need to see reform on many levels of our gov't before I come on board to uni health care. Guess we'll just have to watch this one play out.

  21. 321

    that was hilarious
