Recap: Travis Barker AND DJ AM Critically Injured in South Carolina Plane Crash, 4 Dead

As we reported earlier, Travis Barker and celebrity music spinner, DJ AM were critically injured after their Learjet 60 crashed during takeoff from South Carolina's Columbia Metropolitan Airport, just before midnight on Friday. The plane was headed for Van Nuys, CA.
The former Blink 182 drummer, Baker, and DJ AM are in critical condition and being treated for severe burns at an Augusta, Georgia burn center.
Barker was transported by ground to the burn facility from the site of the crash.
DJ AM was airlifted.
Four people died in the crash.
The deceased have been identified as pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, CA co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, CA, Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, CA, and Charles Still, 25 of Los Angeles, CA.
Chris was Travis's assistant.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families.
The plane crash is still under investigation, however, during a press conference late Saturday morning a spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that the plane overran the airstrip and proceeded to run into a number of the airport's lights and antenna.
Air traffic controllers reportedly "saw sparks coming from the runway" before the crash. Investigators don't know if that was from the aircraft or its engines.
A South Carolina resident named William Owens was driving down a highway next to the airport when he said he saw a fireball go across the road. He told local TV station WIS News 10:
"I didn't know what I had seen — it was maybe 800 feet in front of me, but as I approached it closer though I made out a fire. By then I was able to see the tail of the jet and I recognized it as a jet," Owens said.
Owens then described what he saw as he tried to make it to the wreckage.
"It's in flames and the fuel is running across the road and I had to cross the fuel to get to the two guys that seemed to have been dumped on the highway," Owens said.
Owens said the two men (Travis and DJ AM!) were running around and stripping down to extinguish themselves. He then asked the men if there was anyone else on board the plane and they said four more were with them.
"We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do," Owens said.
Travis and AM were in Columbia, South Carolina Friday night for a T-Mobile sponsored concert at Five Points, a popular shopping district.
Musicians Perry Farrell and Gavin DeGraw were also part of the festivities. Their reps confirmed to us that they WERE NOT on the plane that crashed.
So sad, sad, sad.

Update on Travis Barker and DJ AM

A news conference was held with Dr. Fred Mullins, the medical director at the burn hospital where Travis Barker and DJ AM are being treated. Mullins said that they are both being treated for second- and third-degree burns, and that recovery from such burns can take as long as a year. He also noted that Barker and DJ AM had no other injuries.
Mullins says Barker was burned on his torso. DJ AM was burned on his hands and part of his head. Mullins added that they are both still in critical but stable condition.

I think we've all noticed through out the times that no one on Perez's staff really works weekends because this site is rarely if ever kept up on weekends.
You'll just have to check TMZ or yahoo news or some other news outlet for updates.
Too bad and so sad for Perez. But if the cat's away, the mice will place. A staunch lesson learned.

if you check eonline.com, a doctor from the hospital where they are has made a statement and said he expects a full recovery:
"Since both Barker and [Adam 'DJ AM'] Goldstein are in overall good health and didn't suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected," said Dr. Fred Mullins at a press conference on Sunday morning.
"Anybody who can survive a plane crash is pretty lucky," he added.

This is such sad news. My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and my thoughts and prayers are with Travis and DJ Am and their families. They will have a long journey since burns are involved - they need to stay positive with their family and fans support. I have a family member who went through the skin graphs and numerous operations - she is thriving, beautiful nor did she ever feel sorry for her self once during all of this - she is my hero. I pray the same will happen for these fellow too.

How can some of you sick twisted people say that you wish Perez and Shana were on that plane as well? A very sad thing happened, people lost their lives and the 2 that survived were (what sounds like) injured pretty badly, and you actually wish that on 2 innocent people? What is wrong with you people? Perez REPORTS this stuff, he doesn't make it up and just because your favorite celebrity did something stupid and Perez calls them on it does not make it his fault. And Shana, as much as I don't care for her, there is no reason to wish something so bad on her. You don't even know her. Those of you saying stuff like that make me sick.

Buddy, we own two businesses……. TWO. One we own with a partner and have other employees. One my husband runs by himself.
In order to keep it up and running, it has to be nurtured and cared for or people will take their business some where else.
If Perez wants people to come to him, then he needs to:
A. Stay on top of shit.
B. Hire someone else to stay on top of it for him.
Quit whining for him. When you got a job to do, you got to do it well. Most of his information is old and out of date. It's posted somewhere else before it is here. My mother always said, there's no point in doing something if you're going to do it half-assed. Give it all you got or give it nothing at all.

A doctor has announced that Travis Barker and DJ AM are expected to have a full recovery after yesterday's horrific plane crash.
Barker and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein were severely burned yesterday when their Learjet crashed before takeoff from a Columbia, South Carolina airport. The crash killed four people, including Barker's assistant Chris Baker.
Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, said both Travis and Adam suffered second and third-degree burns. Mullins said Barker's torso and Adam's hands and part of his head were burned.

Prayers go out to the victims and Nicole Richie. You can tell how much Nicole loved DJ AM in her book The Truth About Diamonds. She must be in shock and going through a lot - I cant believe its her birthday today. How sad. Her current boyfriend seems like a class act and they are so good for each other. I hope their beautiful baby is doing well.
Oh, that's a shame. As a burn unit nurse for over twenty years, believe me, you would rather be dead. Severe burns all over your body is very, very painful. We can pump you to the max with morphine and you are still going to be in a lot of pain. Believe me, you would much rather be dead.

My heart skipped a beat when I read Gavin could have been on, and I have to say, I felt such a surge of relief when I heard he wasnt and is safe.
It's awful about the people who died in this crash, but Travis and Adam are fine. They were running around and got out fast and have no broken bones and according to somebody I spoke to this weekend from a band who knows Travis very well, he's okay and the burns aren't life threatening or as serious it's all been made out to be, but I expect he's very upset about those thousands of dollars worth of tattoos being burned off his chest (if he really has been that badly burned on his body).
Weird how all the former members of Blink 182 have had rather a lot of bad luck since they split, not only are their current bands no way near as successful (er, they're shit), they've had other personal problems. Once Travis recovers, looks like he and Mark Hoppus should make an effort to call an old friend…

Re: Krista66 – No, I've been a nurse for many years. And believe me, you don't want to go thru it. The worst part isn't the burns themselves, it is the changing of the bandages and the scrubing of the wounds. Maybe I exaggerated a little in saying anyone would want to be dead. But beleive me, I have cared for many people over the years who were begging me to just let them die. It is not a pretty sight.

RIP Che Still and the 3 others that were lost in this tragedy. Che (Charles) was a bright and energetic person who was beautiful inside and out. my prayers go to all the families and friends of the deceased and to Travis and DJ AM that they stay strong and fight.
