It's On!

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama > John McCain

wenn2068614.jpg

Republican Presidential hopeful John McCain isn't ready to face his first presidential debate, set for this Friday in Mississippi.

As we mentioned earlier, McCain wants to "suspend" campaigning to go to Washington and "help negotiate a financial bailout bill, a dramatic move designed to seize a powerful issue."

But Barack Obama's side isn't having any of that!

A senior Obama campaign official has responded saying that Obama "intends to debate." Adding that, "The debate is on."

McCain is even going as far as calling on the Commission on Presidential Debates to postpone the debate scheduled for this week in order to "ensure quick congressional action."

In a statement released by McCain's camp, the potential future Pres says, “I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me. I am calling on the president to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.”

When asked about McCain's plan to postpone the first debate because of the administration's bailout plan, chief debate negotiator, Democratic Rep. Rahm Emanuel, said that "we can handle both." Adding that progress is being made on Capitol Hill and that should not stop the debate from taking place.

Amen!!!!

An Obama campaign official added that Obama is willing to go to DC, "if it would be helpful," but stated that they still intend on debating this Friday as they see no need to postpone.

Mike DuHaime, McCain's campaign political director said McCain is "going to do what he thinks is right. He’ll make a vote as a leader in this country, and people will look to him."

DuHaime added:

“Quite frankly, I think you could ask Sen. Obama if he’s going to do what he thinks is right. I mean, he has never — I believe — never once made a decision that is an unpopular decision or went against the orthodoxy of his party, and was one that was a tough decision to make. . . . Sen. McCain has done that throughout his entire career, his entire life — not just in politics, but his life.

When you start talking about $10,000 per household or per family to go toward bailing out Wall Street, they have legitimate questions about it. People understand that that is a big thing and it affects them, and they do legitimately have questions about, is this really going to go to bail out companies or leaders of companies who now are relying on taxpayer dollars to bail them out, and are going to get these huge compensation packages after they come to the taxpayers for it.

There is some frustration, certainly, in that, and it’s understandable to say the least. And it has not been a quick rush to say yes or no. People understand the gravity of this, want to see it done right, while still understanding the timing factor.”

So what do U think?

Should the debate go on, or should McCain be allowed to go to DC and fight for what he believes in?

I go to Ole Miss, the school where the debate is being held. There more than likely will be a debate. This is what the school has to say:

Statement by Commission on Presidential Debates

Oxford, Miss., September 24, 2008 - “The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) is moving forward with its plan for the first presidential debate at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. this Friday, September 26. The plans for this forum have been underway for more than a year and a half. The CPD’s mission is to provide a forum in which the American public has an opportunity to hear the leading candidates for the president of the United States debate the critical issues facing the nation. We believe the public will be well served by having all of the debates go forward as scheduled.”

  2. 202

The freedom movement may have spread to a select few of the American public but it sure as hell hasn't spread to the majority. The core issues that we should be concerned about; bigger gov't and more power to the gov't, more spending and a higher deficit that my children will have to inherit, a war with Russia and Iran, the violation of our civil liberties and the CONSTITUTION, are swiped aside for issues that shouldn't be on our top agenda: abortion (pro-life or pro-choice, gay rights, and rights for illegal immigrants, a health care plan that violates the constitution and a person's right to personal choice/responsibility. Because to me that seems to be where the major differences are. What we should care about is the fact the both of our supposed choices both represent all these things. Both of them blatantly intend to have tough military action on Iran, both of them will increase our taxes and our deficit for their bigger gov't programs (where do u think the $$$ comes from to pay for these programs), both of them have relations with manipulative and corrupt corporations i.e. Obama's connection with Fannie and Freddie and well the whole world knows where McCain's connections lay. This stuff could just go on. Instead, we are all on opposite ends of the political spectrum voting for two evils.

  3. 203

One may be a little less evil then the other but they are still evils. Do you really think that in the yrs to come you won't think "damn I believed another politician." Damn I was ready to fight for this politician and put my well-being and children's in his hands? We are still going to be in a war….a bigger war, we are still going to have a bigger deficit, and we are going to have less civil liberites, while our country is left to foreign countries to buy up. AHHHHHHHH why don't you get it? Where is everyone's critical thinking skills? Vote for Hitler or Vote for the Communist. But hey its just me, what do I know?

  4. 204

    Keep the debate going.
They shouldn't post pone a debate because of an issue that is trying to be fixed by many people just because the two of them will be absent, unless of course McCain has a brilliant idea, but wouldn't he be able to tell what it is and still attend the debate?

  5. 205

Re: sparkys nemesis – DON'T be sooooo naive. That's what OldCaine wants people think: that he only cares about fixing the crisis. He wants people to look at what he's saying and think: oh, he's right. He does care about putting the country first. It's INSINCERE! It's his strategy, since he knows he–with his millions, 13 cars and 9 homes–doesn't give a dman about the economy–only war and since he has NO solution for the economy. His strategy is to make it seem as if he cares about country because he knows gullible people like you will say sh#t like, "McCain truly cares, he's doing the right thing and he's real leader in a time of crisis." Oh, please.

    Re: sweetpiece
Yes… Biden is also the one who mentioned that Roosevelt was President during the Great Depression when the stock market crashed… It was actually Hoover. When confronted his spokesperson said that it is not the democrats place to get facts correct…. not the exact quote, but damn near it…. what a JOKE.

Hey, since you are Biden supporter… go do the patriotic thing and take all the money you've made and give to your neighbor!!! That's the patriotic thing to do…. STUPID!!!

Re: Yadayada – amen to that!!!

  8. 208

Now is the time we need someone who will fight for us and not BAIL on us!!! He is just pissed because none of this is looking good for him and he felt like he needed a way to regain control and not lose more ground in a debate he would so badly lose this week!!
It was supposed to be a JOINT statement agreed upon and made by both candidates and McCain decided to do it on his own…making Obama look like the bad guy for not speaking up before now.
He is acting as if it makes him noble.
I think it makes McCain WEAK and a COWARD!!!
    COWARD COWARD COWARD!!!!!!

Say what?? Clearly you haven't done your research.. Because if you did, you would know that your comment is far from the truth, regarding Obama working for the people. That's exactly what he has done in Chicago for years… Maybe you are just lying on purpose, or maybe you're just ignorant.. Which is it?

  12. 212

    Like NOT STACY said

These people are running for PRESIDENT. John McCain can't work on the economic situation and talk about foreign policy in the SAME WEEK? How's he going to run the country??????????????????????????????????????????????????

  13. 213

Re: calimol – Lol… Oh do you mean when John McCain said he thought "The fundamentals of our economy are strong," on the very day that two of Wall Street’s major banking institutions collapsed.

    You are sooo Wrong.

  14. 214

I think that it is brave of McCain to step up and put "country first" I only wish power hungry Obama would do the same. (McCain has tried to schedule many town hall meetings w/Obama. He declined.) McCain isn't scared of a little debate on foreign policy. I also wish that celebs and the un news news channels would keep their opinions personal. They are much more influential than your average person. While I realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, please let the American public get up off their butt and research the options. Rather than just vote for who the most popular person likes. I'm a former Hillary supported who did my research and found that I agree more with what Sen. McCain stands for rather than Obama. I don't agree with everything, but that's normal. Please, people read and research!

  16. 216

Selfish, insensitive prick. He has yet to go to Washington and do good… why start now!

  17. 217

Jesus, Some of you people amaze me. McCain is right, they need to put their full energy into this bailout and put the debate to the side. McCain had invited Obama numerous times to debate as did Clinton and he pussied out. Unlike Obama who hasn't been responsible for a single bill in the senate to be passed or voted on, McCain knows the stakes are alot higher than any election as it pertains to the well being of the US. That to me, is being smart, not scared. I would see how Obama would shrug it off, he never voted for anything in his life like the fence straddler he is. McCain will eat him alive in the debates.

  18. 218

John McCain can't work on the economic situation and talk about foreign policy in the SAME WEEK? How's he going to run the country?

    Re: Urdesire
News Flash since you obvously just started following politics this year after jumping on the Obamanation Bandwagon, let me inform you…..
    -
MCCAIN WHO HAS ACTUALLY BEEN IN THE SENATE FOR 20YRS UNLIKE OBAMA'S 154 DAYS AND VOTING "PRESENT" 130 DAYS..WHICH BASICALLY MEANS HE JUST SHOWED UP AND DID NOTHING…………
    -
MCCAIN WARNED THE DEMOCRATS 3YRS AGO OF WHAT WAS TO COME AND DID IN FACT TRY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENEING, HOWEVER CLINTON AND THE DEMOCRATS THOUGHT IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT TO GIVE OUT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN LOANS TO PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T QUALIFIED AND EVEN PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY, THEY BASICALLY GOT A HUGE LOAN, NO MONEY DOWN, WITH A HUGE INTEREST RATE THAT COULDNT BE PAID BACK, BUT OF COURSE IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE AND AN IRRESPONSIBLE DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS FELT EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A LOAN FOR A HOME, EVEN IF THEY WERE GROSSLY UNQUALIFIED. MCCAIN ALREADY VOTED AGAINST THIS AND WARNED ABOUT OUR CURRENT CRISIS 3YRS AGO, AND IT'S NICE TO SEE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE DEMOCRATS DIDN'T LISTEN HE IS STILL DOING WHATS RIGHT TO HELP THE CONGRESS AND SENATE FIX THIS MESS!!
    -
HOPEFULLY THAT CLEARS IT UP A BIT FOR YA!

  23. 223

Re: Melissa is always right – The Democrats have not stood for Deregulations like the Republicans have so I don't care that Obama has voted along side his party 97% of the time…That's a good thing in my book especially since he voted against this war which is Fucking everybody up.

Also the reason the WORLD is waiting until after the election is because Obama and the rest of the Democrats can only pass things into law then…not before, duh.

  24. 224

Biden says "When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on television and said, Here this is what happened."

Hmmmm Hoover was president and TVs were not even invented yet!!!

What a joke. If Palin would have said this, it would be ALL over the place!!!

  25. 225

Re: sweetpiece – was he able to recall which President was in office during the market crash in the early part of this century this time, or did his dumb ass blame it on FDR again?

  26. 226

Do you people not have money in any bank? How could you not want these two rich jerks to go to Washington and do their jobs. Fuck some dumb ego boosting Obama jerkoff debate fest.

  27. 227

Re: arrora – U are the shit! Thank you for educating these people!

  28. 228

Both of these men are SENATORS- they didn't resign like they should have. if you run, you should resign your office. This is important- they need to BOTH be in DC.

  29. 229

McLame and Palin are NOT prepared.. this is just an excuse to STALL for more time before the debates… LOL.. UTTERLY PATHETIC

  30. 230

    Re: arrora
AMEN!!! My husband and I were smart enough NOT to buy a home when the economy was like this even though we could have afforded it… duh!!! It's a no brainer that this was going to happen! It's no one's fault except the idiots who signed a piece of paper w/out reading… but, like most Americans, they feel the need to blame others for their stupidity and expect us (the hard working people of America) bail them out… are you kidding. Do you people realize that these CEO's made 90 million or so over the past 6 years. Doesn't this piss you off???? They are walking away w/out even a slap on the wrist AND those idiots who got homes when they shouldn't have are going to get to keep their homes b/c WE the people are going to bail them out…. This is a JOKE!

  31. 231

Re: arrora – You should be the debator….YOU ROCK! It's so much more refreshing than the sophomoric "MCCAIN THE SAME", "OleCaine" etc comments that these morons are posting, like stating it 20 times makes it better. Childish Obamanation, what cute phrase is next?

  32. 232

Re: Urdesire – Obama didnt vote against the war he wasnt even in the senate at the time of the vote. He opposed the war. Do your homework.

    Re: EastLansinglove
TRY WRITING SOMETHING SUBSTANTIAL BESIDES "OOH ALL CAPS YOU'RE SO DUM" YOUR FAVORITE COLORS CLEAR ISN'T IT?
    -
nice to know you have nothing better to say, poor Obama and all the hours and weeks he's spent trying to memorize everything to say during this debate, if he actually cared about his job as a senator he'd be in Washington instead of so worried about his debate, there are 40 days to debate and maybe only a week to solve this crisis, but you probably still live with Mommy and Daddy who pay all your bills so I'm sure the economic crisis doesn't concern you =)
    -
If Obama was so concerned about debating he would have taken Mccain up on his 10 offers to debate him in town halls but he can't to that without his people prepping him first!

  34. 234

I see McCain”s tactics have really fooled alot of people into thinking he is more concerned about the country… Either he has fooled you guys' or you just believe what u want to believe, no matter how false it is. McCain recently stated that the economy was in good shape, despite what experts were/are saying. He's constantly accused Obama of avoiding a debate with him and now when the time comes for the debagte, he wants to use the economy as an excuse to delay the debate. The point is, there are many, many citizens of this country who may not be sure who they want to vote for yet and the debates are necessary to help people make up their minds. The economy is not going to be fixed over night. These gentlemen should be able to debate and still be involved in the decision-making process that will come up with a potential solution to the economic problems…. So don't be fooled. McCain is not ready to debate Obama, and McCain is not ready to be the president of this fine country!!!

  35. 235

    K's MOM… AMEN!!!!!!

  36. 236

Re: Urdesire #225 – Obama has shown no desire to do his job, only to run for the presidency and contribute minimally. It shows in his inability to make a decision. John McCain has shown his ability to reach across the aisle to work with Dems. Barry voted against the surge - that worked - not the war itself. The WORLD will have to wait until January, not 40 days from now. Instead of politics as usual, they need to be doing their jobs. I thought the hot issue fucking everyone up right now was the economy???

  42. 242

Re: DiamondDean – As opposed to a 156 day in congress, vote abstaining, fence straddler like Obama? The reason why Obama has no problem doing the debates is because like his history in the Senate, albeit short one, shows he has no mind of his own, indecisive, and inept in the art of supporting or implementing an actual plan of action. He would have to actually put in some input which his history shows he is clearly incapable of!

    Biden garbles Depression history

Joe Biden's denunciation of his own campaign's ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.

He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

As Reason's Jesse Walker footnotes it: "And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, 'Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?'"

  44. 244

Re: TheTruth1972 – did you see the saddleback forum.

  45. 245

"A few moments ago, President Bush called Senator Obama and asked him to attend a meeting in Washington tomorrow, which he agreed to do. Senator Obama has been working all week with leaders in Congress, Secretary Paulsen, and Chairman Bernanke to improve this proposal, and he has said that he will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution. He strongly believes the debate should go forward on Friday so that the American people can hear from their next President about how he will lead America forward at this defining moment for our country," said Obama-Biden spokesman Bill Burton.

  46. 246

Re: && I got a thing for you!

Wanta buy one of the eco-friendly cars, guess what, they won't loan you the money to get it if they don't get this shit fixed. OBAMA

  50. 250

    1) HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO DISCUSS THE ECONOMY IF THEY ISN'T A RESOLUTION TO THE ECONOMIC CRISIS WE'RE IN?

    2) MCCAIN CALLED OBAMA OUT A BUNCH OF TIMES TO HAVE DEBATES THIS SUMMER WHY IS MCCAIN GETTING SHIT WHEN WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOMETHING MORE IMPORTANT GOING ON?

    3) WOULD OBAMA REALLY BE A CANDIDATE IF BLACK PEOPLE DID BLINDLY VOTE FOR HIM IN THE PRIMARIES?

  51. 251

Actually, the job of both these men is to act as representatives for their people — both are Senators, whether or not they're currently playing hooky from their duties on the campaign trail. Not to say that McCain isn't trying to use this as leverage, because of course he is. However, Obama might want to consider actually going back to DC and doing his job for a little while.

  52. 252

Re: dd1 – Hilarious! Looks like Obama picked another Quayle (SEE: "POTATOE")…I bet he goes to bed everynight thinking…"Why didn't I pick Hillary?"

  53. 253

Re: arrora – Lemme clear things up for you…. I have not just started following politics this year I first registered to vote in 1992 and have voted in every election local and otherwise ever since.

The collapsing housing market is a symptom of a bigger problem and the way I see it the Republicans had control over the House and the Senate up until 2006.

From what I recall the economic consequences for the Gulf Coast region were enormous. More than a million people were displaced, thousands of businesses and jobs were disrupted or destroyed, and the infrastructure—notably for energy—took a severe beating. Also the Housing market saw a cooling off period at this time as well.

If McCain and the rest of the Republican Party were so blessed with such foresight in regard to Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac they should have introduced their plan prior to 2005. It should have been presented in 2003 when sub-prime mortgage lending was at it's peak not when it had experienced a cooling off.

To me I still see his plan as too little too late and as for Obama I have yet to be as disappointed so having to choose between the lesser of two evils I chose Democrat all the way Baby.

Oh and IN YOUR FACE WENCH!!!!

  54. 254

My local news reported that McCain only requested to delay the debate, not to cancel it or evade it….and they reported that he is suspending his campaign to go to Washington. i.e. no commercial ads, no fund raising, no town hall meetings. If these financial institutions fail, the news is reporting that the housing foreclosures will skyrocket, all lending will be curtailed, and unemployment will rise. I see his request for a delay as proof of his love for his country and the American people. He is being true to his campaign slogan, Country first.

    255

This is ridiculous, I can't believe people are calling McCain a coward. Some senators that run for president resign from their senate positions to focus on campaigning. McCain and Obama both chose to remain in Senate. Therefore, they have responsibilities to the country and state's that elected them to be in Congress at this time. Each of their respective parties see Obama and McCain as leaders, BOTH of them should be in Washington at this crucial moment in our history. The fact that Obama can't quit fundraising and campaigning for a few days to help the country in a time of a national crisis comes off as selfish.

  56. 256

Answering questons that these "candidates" have no knowledge of will do NOTHING for us. While they are debating my money will still be at risk. I say fuck debating, fix the damn problem first. If nothing happens with this enormous bailout, nobody will be happy when they go to the bank and there's no money. So go ahead Obama(you dipshit) and focus more on the debate rather than the more important issue, the economy. I already know this prick wants the economy to fail so he can get elected, fix it, and look like a hero. Go sit on a pool stick asshole!

  57. 257

Obama can handle both b/c he'll do absolutely nothing about it. He'll just show up and vote "present" like he always does but not actually fight for anything.

  58. 258

    Re: baldwin4pres
Where does Obama say he plans on continuing this war in Iraq? Frankly you're right the war will spread to Iran, N Korea and Russia, but Obama is a Flip Flopper who says back and forth that he's withdrawing all the troups, and now he wants to move all the troups to Afghanistan as if that makes sense. He doesn't support protecting this country so if you're going to pick the lesser of 2 evils at least vote for the Man who has the Foreign Policy Experience, Understands what being in the military is about, served our country for our freedoms, and understand the crisis's we face in this country.
    "McCain!!"

Here ya go Arrora! Just in case you missed it!
    .
From the man who said "the fundamentals of our economy are strong!", less than 2 weeks ago, while Lehman Bros.and Merrill Lynch were collapsing.
He went on to say later that we should not bail out AIG, then the next day changed his rhetoric again. Confuses SEC with the FEC after stating he would fire SEC chairman Cox.(oops! President cannot do that) "I believe that the chairman of the FEC should resign and leave office and be replaced." Ha,ha,ha!
He is an IDIOT as is anyone who would waste a vote on him! Remember back in 2004 when he stated the economy wasn't his "strong point"? Nothing has changed!
    .
THIS MESSAGE IS APPROVED BE STAY THE SAME MCCAIN!

Black people only make up 12% of the population of the U.S. I think Obama has alot of white votes too. Did you see the support he had in Oregon? Did you see the turn out in Germany?? People believe in him because he possesses a quality that McCain and Palin don't. He's genuine! He comes across as a sincere person that cares about all the citizens of this country, not just the rich ones..

A McCain supporter said it best earlier, Obama's and McCain's votes would most likely cancel each other's out, so there presence in Washington is not the highest priority. Bring on the debate!!!

  67. 267

    1) You can't call mccain a coward when he repeatedly called out obama for debates all summer.

    2) our current economic situation is a bit more important than a debate

    3) this is for the person that said all mccain supporters would blindly vote for mccain, I would've voted for hilary however black people blindly voted for obama in the primaries because black people are so happy to lay claim to anything "black" and now we're in this mess. Not only am I voting for mccain because I'm making an informed decision but i'm also converting many of the young uninformed voters out there who are voting for obama, because of his hype campaign, to non obama votes

  68. 268

McCain has the right idea. Mr Charisma Obama bin biden just want to talk has pretty speeches with empty words. Remember who else gave charismatic speeches-Hitler!

  69. 269

    McCain is a crybaby!

Re: Urdesire – Looks like a smart thing to do - show the people you are serious about leading by stepping up and taking action; rather than waiting until the scheduled debate to TALK about it more. Why doesn't Barry want to step up to the challenge of figuring mess this out?

  73. 273

    Re: TheTruth1972 – #270
    1. It's closer to 14% now.
    2. … and we care what the turnout was in fucking *Germany*???
    3. They shouldn't cancel each other's votes out - this is a bi-partisan clusterfuck that REQUIRES a bi-partisan solution. The time for playing party politics is NOT RIGHT NOW.
    4. Whomever wins in November is going to inherit this stinking shitpile of financial meltdown and it is CRITICAL they both be there to hammer out something EVERYONE can agree on.

  74. 274

Re: Ron – 251 Personally Ron, I think they both should stay the fuck away from it because the problem is beyond presidential politics. I thought the goal was to stay bi partisan about this issue. McCain successfully screwed it up again by trying to trump Obama to the podium. All he has done is successfully show how arrogant and deceptive he is. The men had an agreement not to do anything with the debates until they came together on a bi partisan statement regarding the financial fix Bush proposes.
This was underhanded and a pure political move during a time of crisis.
Another McCain knee jerk reaction! And a botched political move.

Re: Smirks #264 – LOL Smirks! Great post!

  76. 276

I dont understand how people can say McCain is afraid to debate Obama. If anyone saw the Saddleback forum McCain even impressed the Librals and that gave him confidence.

Re: harrybalsac – LOL. She has been trying to smear you and snatch on several posts now, didn't think you'd let it go, so not like you!

  79. 279

    Debates should go on!

McCain is the problem in the first place!

I'm able to do two things at once, why can't he!?

    VOTE OBAMA!

  80. 280

Re: TheTruth1972 – McCain has been called because he has the ability to bring both sides to negaotiate a deal on this bailout, he is a heavyweight Senator with a track record of working with both sides of the aisle. Stating that Obama's vote would cancel McCain's is irrational, McCain has the ability to influence because he is respected. Obama is hardly as respected, you cannot compare the two.

  81. 281

I think that the debates should go on as planned…..this would be a great opportunity for America to see which presidential candidate can hold it together in the face of an economic crisis. This is just another scheme from the McCain campaign in an effort to make Senator McCain look like he is someone who really cares about the issues, but it fails miserably because there are both Republicans and Democrats that have stated that McCain’s presence in the Congress would be useless. If anything McCain is trying to avoid any debate on the economy because he is slipping in the polls and he offers no real solutions to solve the crisis. This is guy who thinks that fundamentals of our economy is sound and intact….really???? I hope that Americans realize that McCain and Palin are desperately trying to hide their flaws.

  82. 282

Re: noneoftheabove – and what could they possibly do before Friday night that is gonna fix ANYTHING? I think if you're running for President of the U.S. you should at least be able to multi-task….

  83. 283

Re: Tara17 – Of course, McCains followers have no shame by support him and obviously have no brain. Just zombies!

  84. 284

1)"When you start talking about $10,000 per household or per family to go toward bailing out Wall Street"
Are you kidding, the top earning 10% of America pays 70% of taxes…$10,000 of my money is not going towards the bailout.

2)Is it so wrong McCain is actually doing his job as a Senator…something Obama knows nothing about. The first debate is about flipping foreign policy–that's not exactly something Obama is known for.

  85. 285

    Re: sweetpiece
Bla blah McCain=Bush2 yeah we've already heard that one like 50x, but if you actually knew anything about the political parties, you'd already know that Mccain is nowhere near as conservative as Bush and was almost not the presidential nominee because Republicans didn't find Mccain Conservative enough. McCain is nothing like Bush, frankly I even find him a bit to liberal especially with off shore drilling and Illegal Immigrants, calling him Bush2 is just a cop out that you have nothing better to say and are repeating what you here from your liberal news stations if you even watch the news.
    -
Not all republicans are photocopies of Bush, thats just generic and so played out, how about actually debating on an issue instead of just saying the same old Bush2, Mcsame, PLEASE SAY SOMETHING NEW ALREADY!

  86. 286

Last week John McCain said, “The fundamentals of America’s economy are strong.”

Today, John McCain has dropped 9 points behind Barack Obama in the polls!

AND, today, John McCain wants to “suspend his campaign and postpone Friday’s Presidential debate” because “our economy is in crisis.”

OPEN YOUR EYES, AMERICA. This is one of the nastiest and most cynical political stunts ever attempted in American Presidential politics.

Call it what it is! It is not noble; it is not honorable! It is despicable!

McCain is once again grasping at an American crisis and playing it for whatever he can gain politically.
He chose Palin for that reason, and he halted the Republican Convention, not because of the suffering, but because he needed an excuse to not have Bush and Cheney appear!

McCain’s slogan is NOT “country first” but “winning first!”

  87. 287

Re: Smirks – 268 The timeline went like this. Obama got the AM call for a bi partisan statement to help out congress. He agrees.
He puts in the call to McCain.
Obama waits until that afternoon for McCain to return his call. They talk for some time and agree on setting the statement before discussing whether to postpone the debates.
    Obama goes back to hotel.
McCain runs and finds the nearest podium to try and convince the world he is going to have to cancel the debate and be superoldman.
WE ALL SEE THROUGH THE POLITICAL PLOY!
    .
    STAY THE SAME MCCAIN!

of course you have no clue - go ahead and drive that BMW off to your sweet little country club while your trophy wife is bangin' the gardner -

    Re: obama sucks
I fully respect other people's views and opinions, but she obviously doesnt know what she's talking about. Example: "most voters have already decided who they are voting for, the debate process doesn't change this" False. The debate is a huge deciding factor for alot of people. Example"…and he even asked Obama and the parties to come together.. I am not on either side, but while Obama seems to have in mind this debate and not coming together with McCain to help a serious issue we have going on." False. Obama spoke with McCain first about coming together to work on the crisis. I oppose stupid people having a vote, not Republicans or Democrats.

Re: erhg74 – At least we can punctuate and form a complete sentence. Now who has the brains? LMAO!!!!! CLASSIC

  94. 294

Shouldn't a potential president be able to multi-task and handle whatever kind of crisis the country may find itself in AND show up for an appointment that has been set for quite a while - like, say a debate. PLUS, how much preparation should go into a debate, shouldn't their answers be how they really feel, the info should roll off their tongues, etc. If both their duties as senators and a debate that will last a few hours can't be handled, how could they handle running the most powerful nation in the free world? Seriously, does anyone really doubt that Obama wouldn't fulfill his duties as senator during this time? It's not like he's going to play hooky so he can have a debate! Maybe Obama is more secure in his abilities to handle both and remain calm and McCain is being dramatic so he has an out, rather than being a calming and steady leader.

Re: amylala – Oh please, respect must have republicans for their lives cause they fucking love them to send them all to wars. So if you talk about respect then start respecting the life of people and don't manufacture proof of weapons of mass destruction to the world so you can send soldiers to war.

  97. 297

Kendoll, the meeting with President Bush is scheduled for Thursday, not Friday.

  98. 298

Re: Brendalove – Thanks to republicans and their ideals you are right. It is going down the toilet.. Just when you nothing else would come up under Bush term.. he couldn't hand the government in peace lol

    Re: honeybee
Don't take his quote out of context. That quote saying the fundamentals are strong was referring to the working people that continue to work day in and day out. So you're saying "Country First" is continuing to fundraise and campaign while our nation faces a big crisis? And "Winning First" is putting your campaign on hold to help pull our country through a rough time? Sounds to me like you have things backwards. If this is only a plan to win votes why would John McCain invite Obama to join him? Obama should be there too, and he should do more than vote present this time around.
