It's On!

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama > John McCain

wenn2068614.jpg

Republican Presidential hopeful John McCain isn't ready to face his first presidential debate, set for this Friday in Mississippi.

As we mentioned earlier, McCain wants to "suspend" campaigning to go to Washington and "help negotiate a financial bailout bill, a dramatic move designed to seize a powerful issue."

But Barack Obama's side isn't having any of that!

A senior Obama campaign official has responded saying that Obama "intends to debate." Adding that, "The debate is on."

McCain is even going as far as calling on the Commission on Presidential Debates to postpone the debate scheduled for this week in order to "ensure quick congressional action."

In a statement released by McCain's camp, the potential future Pres says, “I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me. I am calling on the president to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.”

When asked about McCain's plan to postpone the first debate because of the administration's bailout plan, chief debate negotiator, Democratic Rep. Rahm Emanuel, said that "we can handle both." Adding that progress is being made on Capitol Hill and that should not stop the debate from taking place.

Amen!!!!

An Obama campaign official added that Obama is willing to go to DC, "if it would be helpful," but stated that they still intend on debating this Friday as they see no need to postpone.

Mike DuHaime, McCain's campaign political director said McCain is "going to do what he thinks is right. He’ll make a vote as a leader in this country, and people will look to him."

DuHaime added:

“Quite frankly, I think you could ask Sen. Obama if he’s going to do what he thinks is right. I mean, he has never — I believe — never once made a decision that is an unpopular decision or went against the orthodoxy of his party, and was one that was a tough decision to make. . . . Sen. McCain has done that throughout his entire career, his entire life — not just in politics, but his life.

When you start talking about $10,000 per household or per family to go toward bailing out Wall Street, they have legitimate questions about it. People understand that that is a big thing and it affects them, and they do legitimately have questions about, is this really going to go to bail out companies or leaders of companies who now are relying on taxpayer dollars to bail them out, and are going to get these huge compensation packages after they come to the taxpayers for it.

There is some frustration, certainly, in that, and it’s understandable to say the least. And it has not been a quick rush to say yes or no. People understand the gravity of this, want to see it done right, while still understanding the timing factor.”

So what do U think?

Should the debate go on, or should McCain be allowed to go to DC and fight for what he believes in?

    Re: demeter – #377
That's where you're wrong. McCain is possibly the ONLY person who can rein in the Republicans to get legislation passed.

McCain said, "I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues." To me, it is refreshing that someone doesn't PRETEND to know everything there is to know about economics, and is willing to admit there is more to be learned. You're telling me that a CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYER and COMMUNITY ORGANIZER knows more about Economics than McCain? The fact is that NOBODY foresaw this crisis, and NOBODY warned their constituents. At least ONE PERSON is willing to admit the truth. NEITHER CANDIDATE KNOWS SHIT ABOUT ECONOMICS.

  2. 502

    Re: TEAM MILEYY – #411
Exactly what I would expect from someone on "Team Miley" lol.

  3. 503

Both McCain and Obama need to be working on the bailout. They are both Senators who need to be doing the job they were elected to do. The debate can wait.

  4. 504

    Re: sweetpiece – #417
Of COURSE Obama wanted to wait. He has gone to extraordinary lengths in his career to not commit to ANYTHING until he was sure which way the political wind was blowing. He prolly wants to host a forum or poll a focus group to find out what to do about the economy. He has no clue. Neither does anyone else. But LEADERSHIP is key now. NOT talking. NOT prevaricating. NOT stalling. Obama's behavior is NOT PRESIDENTIAL IN THE LEAST.

  5. 505

    !!!!!OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!

  6. 506

    !!!OBAMA CAN MULTITASK!!!

  7. 507

    Re: sweetpiece – #444
Awww…. sweetpiece. Yes, factcheck.org is a good place to check the veracity of rumors. Also Snopes and Truthorfiction :)

PS - You are nice, too!!! We'll not to McCain, but to me >.>

  8. 508

Re: Smirks – Though one is more intelligent than the other to figure it all out. Can't believe you buy into all the McCain 101 strategist bullshit!

Did you NOT see the Saddleback Q & A session?!? LOLOLOL. Go look at it on youtube and get back to us.

  10. 510

    Re: PixTweak – #512
I have seen too much to BUY into ANY political bullshit. And BOTH candidate are in it up to their fucking NECKS. Sorry, Obama is just not the guy for me. WAY too liberal.

  11. 511

McCains right. Fix the economy first. Then debate. Does'nt everyone know who they are going to vote for already. This is going on for far tooo long.

  12. 512

This one is SO simple: McCain is trying to create a situation where the Vice-Presidential Debate is cancelled on 10/2/08 because they'll need it for the one he is now trying to "postpone" on 9/26/08. Republicans lying and playing dirty - as usual. What's the matter, John? Don't you think Sarah Palin can handle debating Joe Biden? Gee, why not? His choice of Palin as his VP was 100% reckless and an absolute indication that this man has zero capability to lead this country. Today's little song and dance is the icing on the cake….

Hey John McCain! America does not EVER "suspend" our Constitutional electoral process - for ANYONE - and that includes YOU. We will have a new POTUS in 6 weeks, whether you are there or not.

    VOTE OBAMA 2008!

    513

Right DuHaime…why dont you tell it like it is…McCain is upset about the polls and
between he and Karl Rove, decided this would be a distraction, and he sneakingly had
a press conference to say he was leaving for washington at once, blha blah blah, even
tho Obama had called him at 8;30 in the morning to discuss the situation, of which
he never returned his call until after he had a press conferrence!! Its all so POLITICAL!!!
Why would you suspend your campaign when you have a vice president nominee
also running and could take up where he left off..Was he afraid to leave it with
Sarah Palin???thats what it sound like to me…They dont want either of them in
Washington at this point! We already have a President, ahem, remember all you
republicans, your darling George Baby Bush!! in other words, duh duh ! sorry it was a political stunt!! Also Noneoftheabove…why is he scared…he's leading in the polls
    dumbass!

  14. 514

think of the american people instead of yourself obama!
    .
whether or not a fast and carefully thought-out solution to the economic disaster is implemented will have a vastly greater and longer effect on all americans than whether mcain or obama is president
    .
help work on economic nightmare instead of your campaign, you a-wipe!

  15. trix says – reply to this

    515

Oh please, what can McCain really do to save the ecconomy? He's not even in the house committee. It'a a political stunt. I agree with Obama. He needs to get his old ass to the debate.

  16. 516

solving the problem is better than debating it you a-wipe! get to work !
    .
help solve it if you have the stuff to be president , instead of just a good organizer and campaigner

  17. 517

It's kind of like pretending to be sick so you don't have to go to school on test day.

As an American, I want to hear what our next leaders think about the issues. I want to know how they plan to fix this giant mess that we find ourselves in. Grandstanding and pretending to roll your shirtsleeves up to save the same America your campaign advisors are in the process of looting is pretty pathetic.

  18. 518

if a presidential candidate doesn't feel he can AND SHOULD personally contribute in washington to solving this very threatening situation then he shouldn't effing be in the race
    .
get to work obama ! are you presidential material? then start now!
    .
eff the campaign theatrics and show what you can contribute!

  19. 519

Re: Chuckina – what about our next leaders CONTRIBUTING in a crisis instead of yapping about it
    .
shouldn't our next leaders have some input into the so-called solution that's being hammered out at this moment and in the coming hours?
    .
if they have no useful input are they presidential material?
    .
the candidates should get to work in washington, it's more important than the debates, and more important than whether mcain or obama wins the election

  20. 520

    Re: mb00

McCain is alot smarter than you all give him credit for…yeah hes
older than Obama but soo what!!! He more experienced and has better
ideas for this country's future, get over yourselves, stop putting
down McCain and actually look into what these men are for, then
you will realize McCain is the right choice!!!

  21. 521

I WOULD HAVE THE DEBATE BECAUSE I THINK THAT McCAIN SHOULD PROVE THAT HE CAN DO MORE THAN ONE THING AT ONCE. THIS IS JUST HIS WAY OF GETTING PUBLICITY. HE IS OLD AND HAS BEEN IN POLITICS ALL HIS LIFE, HE KNOWS HOE TO PLAY THE PUBLIC JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN DOING SOMETHING FOR LONGER THAN SOMEONE ELSE DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU ARE BETTER AT IT. KEEP THE DEBATE.

  22. 522

Ha. Don't you guys wish Kucinich was still running for president? He was the only candidate who actually made sense. Both Obama and McCain suck big time. Clinton too.
Btw, how come noone ever talks about the Green Party's candidate? If debating in order to know where candidates stand in tems of the important issue is so important for you to make up your mind, wouldn't you also want to hear about ALL the options you have at hand? There are more than just two parties to choose from people! That's the beauty of democracy, having options!

  23. 523

Smart move from Camp Mc Cain…….
So he want to put everything on hold to 'save the economy'

Well the usa is almost a 3rd world country anyway, i don't think that not debating will save the nation. Still it will look good for Mc Cain as people will think he put the economy before himself……WRONG

That your economy is crap is not a secret, and most probably discussed on a daily basis between decission makers, smart marketing & pr will no look as if Mc Cain really gives a shit.

Reform will save the US economy, not 2 weeks of chatter amongst guys in suits, resulting in the fact that next year that old fart and that scary lady can fuck it all up again.

  24. 524

    Re: rejoyce2
Fix the economy first you say……
Little too late for that and can't be fixed overnight.
Didn't old fart say there was no economic crisis? So than there is no need for him to go to washington for photop ops…oh sorry 'to help fix the economy'

  25. 525

None of these tools even understand the nature of the economic problem so how the hell are they going to solve a problem of which they have no understanding? (sarcasm on)I'm so relieved that congress, who created this mess, are now going to help fix the mess…we can all sleep better at night knowing we are in the capable hands of a do and know nothing congress. Hurrah!(sarcasm off)

  26. 526

McCain wants Congress robbers to reward banking robbers with your money.Which you and your kids ,and their kids and their kids, will be paying for for next 100 + years.

Of course the debate should go on.
Go read ICH ( real news you will not find on CNN or Fox or NBC )

  27. 527

i'm for the debate.it sucks to be mccain right now but i realy dont care about him.
if he's not ready that's his fault.
    i'm for Obama!!!

  28. 528

Bullshit stalling tactics. McCain even said he wants to go and "help", but you don't cancel an important engagement like a presidential debate, which has been planned and involves the entire country, unless you have a good reason. Helping someone else to do their job, is not a good enough reason. Republicans want to talk about change… so how about if you let George Bush do his job… for a "change".
    c( ^ )c

  29. 529

how about the greatest economic crisis since the depression- is that good?

  31. Maca says – reply to this

    531

Perez you watched the democratic debates and should know Obama got his ass kicked in ALL of them. Why are you supporting him? You should back McCain, he knows what he is actually talking about and makes decisions unlike OBama, who as McCain stated couldn't even vote yes or no, he voted present. Obama is just using this to focus on himself, rather than focus on the problems the country is facing. He only cares about himself(the one jajajajjaja!!!) not the country.

  32. 532

[7] says: No Debate - looks to me like Obama is scared to cast his vote…
    ————————
You are buying into the Repub. rhetoric. You would actually vote for the administration that put you in this precarious $ situation? You are one of the most dangerous Americans with a voting card; since you can't even see that you are being played. Obama knows it; and it shows in his body language.
And you would elect McCain for Pres., even though an Ethics Committee found that he "used poor judgment" in the criminal matter of Charles Keating; where 3 other senators served jail time? McCain totally slithered out of that somehow, but he still got away with the public purse, because he got $112,000 in campaign $ from Keating, who paid McCain and the others with money he stole from the Lincoln Savings & Loan collapse, which taxpayers had to cover. The other 3 senators went to jail, because the campaign $ turned out to be bribes for getting Keating off racketeering charges. Sure…it was only campaign $ to McCain, even though it was bribery $ to the other senators' campaigns. Yes, that stink you are smellin' is Johnny rotten. McCain also referred to Leo DiCaprio as "an androgynous wimp"; that's ignorant for someone who wants to be the President of the U.S.A. And you would elect a "First Lady" who has publicly admitted to stealing narcotics from a medical charity? That's cold; and that's NO Lady. How can you be so blind and gullible?

  33. 533

Re: && I got a thing for you! – YOU ARE A FUCKING MORON

  34. 534

MCCAIN KNOWS HE WILL LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT AT THE DEBATE, IT IS REALLY THAT SIMPLE. IT IS SUCH A SHAME THAT THERE ARE SO MANY DUMB PEOPLE THAT JUST GOBBLE UP WHATEVER THE REPUBLICANS SAY. SARAH PALIN IS A FUCKING JOKE. THE WHOLE REST OF THE WORLD WANTS OBAMA. LOOKING FROM THE OUTSIDE IN I BET THEY WONDER WTF?

  35. 535

Wow, I leave the board and it carries on. However, going through the posts, I still haven't seen an answer WHY Obama doesn't think it would be "helpful" to go to Washington, why the campaign (that seems like it has been going on for 4 years now) is more important that the econony???????? And to Steink (is that pronounced Stank?) and you too sweetpiece, glad you get it now that I am a right winger but as far as "cunt", that is such an ugly, nasty word. If I were ugly or nasty, I wouldn't take offense. A cunt (other than then obv) to me is a fat, sloppy 150 pound candy munching hag who sits on the perez hilton site all day & night long, attacking people because their lives are so inadequate and they simply long for human contact so they are forced to resort to this board for attention because in reality, they are far too heinous for anyone to ever want to be around in real life. And ehg, if you simply can't like me as you said, the FIGHT the urge to hit "reply to this" next time you see one of my posts. But you seek me out every time. I have witnesses remember! ;-)

  36. 536

secondcoming [534] says: "but you don't cancel an important engagement like a presidential debate, which has been planned and involves the entire country, unless you have a good reason" unless you have a GOOD REASON??
how about the greatest economic crisis since the depression - is that good?
    :l
You missed the point……how is that a good reason for [McCAIN]? What do you think McCain would bring to that table, that couldn't be done without him? There are certain political strategies that come into play at strategic points in an election campaign, and we all know that this financial crises did not just happen overnight. Either America is going to bail out Wall Street, or they aren't. Of course they will. That decision has already been made, and the bail out has already been drafted, so delaying the presidential debate is clearly nothing more than a Republican stalling tactic.

  37. 537

its an excuse to avoid the debate cause mccains numbers are falling in the polls, whose he fooling with that "doing it for the people" mess grandpa munster just avoiding issues cause he's too busy trying to figure out how to get in Palin's panties as of which I hear isnt all that difficult she seems to like creepy old men.

  38. 538

Ahh ~ you old SaltyDog ~ we all know you want to do some of that drilling up in Alaska ~ I hear that if you put a blond wig on Sarah Palin, and add a little lipstick ~ she's a deadringer for Miss Piggy.

  39. 539

Re: uraPIGperez – "What do you think McCain would bring to that table, that couldn't be done without him? "

obama wants to be president. he thinks he can make better decisions than bush, who's now, like it or not, creating a solution with paulson, bernanke and congress that will affect our lives dramatically
    .
does obama think his input is not useful, that he can't, as wannabe next president, contribute with insight, ideas, motivating skills, or ANYTHING? if he doesn't think he can be useful in such a crisis, why the hell should he be president? why would he suddenly become useful in this or any future crisis should he BECOME president?
    .
obama has a chance to show his stuff now, if he's got any.
    .
it's more important and it's urgent. eff the debates

  40. 540

Re: uraPIGperez – "That decision has already been made, and the bail out has already been drafted, "
    .
in case you don't read the news, it's NOT finished, it's still BEING drafted and some of the most important points/ideas are being thought out and negotiated AS WE WRITE.
    .
shouldn't a future president be involved?!! and think himself that he should be involved?! WTF?!

  41. 541

obama says they each have private jets that can get them there and back in no time? not very 'green' is it? that's the big thing these days, being environmentally friendly, and i think obama just proved he is NOT, regardless of what shit may flow so freely from his lips.
    *
and people, come off it. mccain is ready to debate, he's been trying to for months! obama said no because he knew there wouldn't be loads of publicity - that is the only reason he's pushing this one so bad! the stupid fucker wants to be on tv!

  42. 542

MCLAME IS USING THIS AS A COPPOUT BECAUSE HE'S NOT PREPARED! OF COURSE BOTH CAN BE DONE! AND IT WASN'T MCLAME WHO ASK OBAMA TO THIS MEETING IT WAS PRES. BUSH! NICE TRY MCLAME!!

  43. 543

    Re: Smirks
    Post 499
while you express a noble concept THAT is NOT how Gov't works. That is what committees are for and the fact still remains regardless whether they are there or not holds no sway. Do I want a committee making decisions… that's how it's been done fo how long now? Two hours for a debate will not kill anyone. Multitask like the rest of. What next delay elections? You don't like go vote to change policies on how things are done. Smoke and mirrors period.

  45. 545

I love the fact that JOHN MCCAIN HAS NOT EVEN READ THE 3 PAGE BILL!!! WHEN DID THIS MELTDOWN START? Now is when he's going to take decisive action? Sorry we are on a timetable people 5 weeks lets get down to business already. The details will be hammered out and the sticking points are a/b regulations that's the hold up coupled with getting rid of Paulson and is 700 billion just an educated guess as to what would be needed. Also, Paulson wants the $$$ w/ no conditions and we are supposed to trust these same people to not make the same mistakes twice. Please, give me a break. So far the Dems are asking for these issues to be addressed BEFORE approving any type of bill it is currently Repubs balking @ the stipulations most Dems and a few rational Repubs want to include. This Bill should be subject to regulation and Judicial review As much as some on here want to think this should be rushed and put in place THAT is NOT how our gov't works. Never has.

  46. 546

Last time I heard Obama was still a Senator with the obligation to help the people of the United States rather than spend ALL of his time working on that promotion… OBAMA THIS IS REAL LIFE ! Cancel the debate and help those who are paying your salary today!!

  47. 547

McCain should go straight to Washington. Obama can stay home and tickle his wife's feet. Regardless whether they debate this week or a week from now, nothing will change what will happen on Nov. 4. Obama should just stay in and not go to Washington, what will he do??? Say he was "Present"?????? PLEASE!

  48. 548

I LOVE that everyone calls McCain a wimp…and yet if the roles were reversed and Obama was a POW he would crack and say "I hate my country" as quick as you can say "BLAH!" Who's the real puss??

  49. 549

McCain has already said that economics is not his strongest area of expertise. How is he going to fix the problems on Wall ST? Go debate, Puss.

    SELFISH SELFISH SELFISH!

Fossil McCain is gonna have to "face the music" after his Republican Party has fucked up so many things the past 8 years. He voted 90% of the time with all of the issues that have fucked this country up. He is probably worried that he will look like a complete fool if he has to do the debate now. Don't worry ya old fart-bag…you already are a fool.

  53. 553

    1. This is a HUGE financial crisis and both candidates should be first and foremost doing the job they were elected to do (get their butts in the senate and vote) in order to protect the US citizens rather than campaign for a chance to get into office in 5 months—in 5 months the economy could be beyond repair if it steps are not taken now. Economists are warning that if there is not a plan by Friday than Monday morning stock market will open 6ft under… Presidential debate can wait one week–this can't.
    2. I don't think McCain is shying away from debate. Hasn't he been the one inviting Obama REPEATEDLY to doing town hall debates and Obama has refused…
    3. This financial crisis is a direct result of Clinton's bright idea to force mortgage lenders to ensure that a large portion of their loans be to low/moderate income borrowers by the year 2001 or face discrimination finds…another brilliant idea by Billy C. that we get tax asz raped for even years later…

From the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Barney Frank:
    -
“All of a sudden, now that we’re on the verge of making a deal, John McCain drops himself in to make a deal," Frank said. "I really worry about this politicization of it."
    -
    -
"We’re going to have to interrupt a negotiating session tomorrow, where I think we’re getting pretty close, and troop down to the White House for their photo-op, and then come back and get on to it," Frank said.
    -
    -
“We’re trying to rescue the economy, not the McCain campaign,” he stated.

What a f'n joke. He has NO answers so he knows it is pointless for him to go. He will get called out for being an empty suit.

It ain't about helping us just in our taxes you moron, it is to benefit the fucktards in Wall Street. The government wants us to think that this is about us….
You know every news channel is saying this shit, that "it will help us, the bailout will help us!!!!"
    Wrong! Wrong!
These banks got sooooo greedy, especially with those who borrowed these loans and the banks knew that these people could not afford to pay back the loans. It is because of these rich motherfuckers that we are in this state. These companies (AIG for example) are connected with the CIA and the government is willing to cover for their asses in order to not be purchased by a foreign bank.
Obama owns McCain big time and when it comes to the vice presidential debates, Biden will pound the unqualified, sexist puerca Palin right in the bunghole. :)

  60. 560

Obama would probably vote "present" on the issue.

  61. 561

Obama is passing on voting on a crucial subject AGAIN. He would rather shot his mouth off than do what's right for this country. Postpone the debates, so what?! It will happen and when it does, McCain will STOMP him. It was stated on Fox News this morning, the dems voted down a proposal back in 2005 to fix the problem of the economy. Bet Barack didn't vote then either. Remember, I'm from Illinois and Barack has done NOTHING for this state. NOTHING!!!!!

The core issues that we should be concerned about; bigger gov't and more power to the gov't, more spending and a higher deficit that my children will have to inherit, a war with Russia and Iran, the violation of our civil liberties and the CONSTITUTION, are swiped aside for issues that shouldn't be on our top agenda: abortion (pro-life or pro-choice, gay rights, and rights for illegal immigrants, a health care plan that violates the constitution and a person's right to personal choice/responsibility. Because to me that seems to be where the major differences are. What we should care about is the fact the both of our supposed choices both represent all these things. Both of them blatantly intend to have tough military action on Iran, both of them will increase our taxes and our deficit for their bigger gov't programs (where do u think the $$$ comes from to pay for these programs), both of them have relations with manipulative and corrupt corporations i.e. Obama's connection with Fannie and Freddie and well the whole world knows where McCain's connections lay. This stuff could just go on. Instead, we are all on opposite ends of the political spectrum voting for two evils. One may be a little less evil then the other but they are still evils.

  65. 565

"damn I believed another politician." Damn I was ready to fight for this politician and put my well-being and children's in his hands? We are still going to be in a war….a bigger war, we are still going to have a bigger deficit, and we are going to have less civil liberites, while our country is left to foreign countries to buy up. AHHHHHHHH why don't you get it? Where is everyone's critical thinking skills? Vote for Hitler or Vote for the Communist. But hey its just me, what do I know?

Re: ss794- – It takes a real wimp to let himself get captured. Wuss. Boo hoo. How many boots did he lick to keep himself alive for 5 years?

The REAL heros are the men to died for this country….who are dying now in a senseless war……a war that McLame wants to continue.

    Obama/Biden 08 baby!!

These financial institutions approved these bad mortgage loans because they were strong armed by the government in the 1990's to diversify their lending or face fines…
"Did You Know? Failure to comply with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act or Regulation B can subject a financial institution to civil liability for actual and punitive damages in individual or class actions. Liability for punitive damages can be as much as $10,000 in individual actions and the lesser of $500,000 or 1 percent of the creditor’s net worth in class actions."
These companies gave out loans to deadbeats because they didn't want to face fines in not doing so… WE ARE NOT BAILING OUT WALL STREET–WE ARE BAILING OUT EVERY DUMB SHMUCK WHO HAS DEFAULTED ON THEIR HOME MORTGAGE!!

  68. Sammy says – reply to this

    568

Obama is doing what he has done in the past not taken his job as Senator seriously, he is always missing Senate sessions and now this sad! Mccain has been the one asking for a debate (anyone watch the view) Obama has not wanted to debate so why are people saying Mccain is scared? Mccain has years of experience in debates and public speaking, Obama is a great actor but, does not have the same debating experience, Hillary ate him up alot of times in the democratic debates.

    Re: MEGA BITCH

Thank you. It's good to know Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong Il would vote for Obama. Another reason he's the WRONG choice!

  71. 571

Re: amylala – i agree, 100%. they should just do it. if mccain can't do both in one week then why is he running for prez?

  72. 572

The best part about all this is that McCain is not even ON the committee that is involved with fixing this situation. The meetings are closed door meetings that only senators of the finance committee are allowed to be in. No exceptions. So when he gets to Washington he will have nothing to do except "meet" with Bush who as we all know is useless and will not be in those meetings either. So delaying the debate will not solve this crisis.

  73. 573

OK, John McCain is not the President (Thank. Fucking. God.). He has no duty or obligation to be helping out with the financial crisis. I believe this is the current administration's problem… and since they are probably reason for blame, they should clean up their own mess.

Stalling the debate is pointless. People need to see where McCain and Obama stand on issues, like the economy, ASAP.

  74. 574

    Re: LordKain
How dare you say that! McCain was given the option to be released because his dad was a general. He turned it down because he knew the enemy would use his freedom as propaganda. It takes true courage to stand up for your beliefs in the face of death! He is an example of a true hero! I do agree heroes are those who live and die serving this country.

    MCCAIN / PALIN 08

  75. 575

    Re: Sammy – wroooooooooooooooong.

    Enough said.

  76. 576

    Re: LordKain
Also, there were soldiers in that POW camp who were there longer than McCain. The only way they could have their freedom is to say bad things about America. None of them did!! That is bravery. I suggested you learn your history.

  77. 577

    DO THE DEBATE! Go Obama!

  78. 578

He lies so much. He took money from Fannie and Freddy for his campaign and they broke our banks and housing. If he cared he
would of listened to John McCain last year when he said to do something about this.
Obama nevered showed up for his Senate meetings. Sounds like he will be another Dickyboy Cheney, hiding from everyone and
    not showing his face.
Obama sounds like the Bush administraion, not McCain.
McCain fought for this country unlike the PLANNER FROM CHICAGO.
    STUPID IDIOTS.

  79. 579

    Re: ss794-
I mean "I suggest you learn your history."

  80. 580

    Letterman was hilarious last night:

    -Re McCain:
    -
"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president?"

  81. 581

    Re: ss794- – Post 578
Wrong, I do not take away his bravery however, all were instructed NOT to take early leave. Military policy. Please read Phillip Butler's why I will not vote for John McCain he was a fellow POW w/ McCain he was @ the Hanoi Hilton 8 and 1/2 years and is heavily decorated and NO he DOES NOT bash McCain, just read the article to understand how the POW situation was.

  82. 582

Re: ss794- – I say this cause I can. Don't like my opinion of that wuss…tough. Bootlicker McLame….I like that name. Fits him just fine.

    Obama/Biden 08

  83. 583

    Just for the record, folks:
    -
McCain has MISSED 377 votes in this Congressional Session. (FACT)
    -
McCain has missed more votes than any other presidential candidate in history — except for George W. Bush.
    -
    -
And NOW, as his numbers get lower by the day, McCain wants to pretend he cares?
    -

  84. 584

Re: ss794- – None of them did cause they knew it was bullshit!! Either way thy weren't going to be released. Duh.

  85. 585

Obama is such a tool. Just like his present votes, he wants others to work out this deal so he can avoid being associated with it if it goes bad. This is not the action or position I want from a leader. I can't believe his supporters don't see right through this empty suit.Even Bill Clinton is on McCain's side in this. Obama is such a wimp. Grow a spine you man-child. Take a position and fight. But why should he. He and his wife hate America. I'm sure they would like nothing more than to see America fail. They can both Fuck Off.

  86. 586

    If I remember

  88. 588

Re: LULU~* – Yes!!! That "go fix the economy first and then debate" decision backfired on McCain.

  89. 589

Re: arrora – Obama may not have a long track record in the Senate but as an individual I see him as a high achiever with a long record of Public Service in his past. His education and common sense is something I have identified with and in my studies I found not every War Hero, good Emperor, Kind and Ruler began with incredible experience prior to becoming the best this world has ever known.

Read your history there are many that have a keen awareness and leadership ability that have made a huge impact on the betterment of the World that did not have a long record of Leadership in their past when they came into Power. My vote is for something unlike our past 8 years and because of that I will be voting for Obama/Biden and your argument that he doesn't have a long record in the Senate means little to me because unlike you I am very familiar with our Worlds history and like many Great Leaders of the Past Obama doesn't need the experience he just has to have the wisdom to do a good job in Power.

STUDY THE POLITICS OF OUR WORLD HISTORY & YOU WILL FIND THAT IT TAKES WISDOM NOT A LEGACY OF BAD DECISION MAKING TO SUCCEED IN LEADERSHIP. OBAMA HAS MADE MANY WISE DECISIONS IN HIS LIFE AND POLITICAL CAREER AND I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT HE WON'T CONTINUE MAKING GOOD DECISIONS AS OUR PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF.

  90. 590

Re: Smirks – But Obama has more smarts than McCain to move this country forward in the right direction. The fact that you are calling Obama too liberal is the reason why I know you buy into all of it. Would you call the way Republicans spend billions and trillions of our tax money on the war and now they want to spend even more of our money "to Save" our economy, "Conservative". That sounds more like they've been way too liberal with our money!!!! Don't kid yourself. You are not thinking out of the box.

  91. 591

I think this shows how selfish and inexperienced Obama is! McCain is trying to take a moment to put country first and face a very serious matter because the wealth of our country is at stake and Obama doesn't want to get involved. I don't know what's scarier the fact that Obama was the best the Democratic Party could do, or the fact that people are foolish and uneducated enough to vote for him. He is taxing us 56% of our checks! Thats more then half going to the government! He is going to take our primary language and make it so it is NOT primary anymore, take our GOD and erase him and basically take the history and culture of a Nation and shatter it. Many men and women have died to preserve the history of this Nation and I think its a disgrace that anyone would try and change anything this country stands for. Anyone who votes for Obama is Anti-American. He comes from a Muslim background and in case you didn't notice his name is Barack HUSSEIN Obama (Rhymes with Osama!) Not the guy you want in office when your nation was attacked by Muslims. He may not be anymore but he can convert back anytime. He is an inexperienced candidate and not fit to be class president let alone president of the USA! If you love your country (AMERICA for those who forgot) then you can't support a man who wants to shatter an entire culture and history of a nation!

  92. 592

why suspend ads? Puhlease! We have a 5 week time table to elect our president. Are we going to suspend the election? Neither are even on the committee that will be making the decision! AGAIN, NEITHER ARE EVEN ON THE COMMITTEE THAT WILL BE MAKING THE FINAL DECISION! All these stalls and not addressing the Issues are ridiculous. As a matter of fact, when Obama addressed the economy early in the campaign most of you Repubs were on here DENYING we were on the cusp of an economic depression. When Perez posted the fact that unemployment was up 6% and posted on the alarming rise on Foreclosures most repubs IGNORED these facts and stated either A people were lazy expecting handouts or B Well I know how to live beneath my means it's time u dems learn to do the same… tsk tsk tsk. No party has a monopoly on ethics, personal accountability or hard work ethic. What some of u repubs posted on those threads were reprehensible, blaming pple for their jobs being outsourced and stuck in homes in a market that is against them w/ medical bills piling high and slamming their credit. Now is when the blinders come off? When we finally hit the wall? Where are the DENIALS some of u FERVENTLY posted on this to begin with????

  93. 593

    Re: LULU~* – #587
    ACTUALLY…your wrong AGAIN…
    1. McCain missed 412 votes, Obama missed 295, BUT many of the votes Obama showed up for he did not cast a yes/no vote—what's the friggin difference he mine as well stayed home.
    2. George W. Bush DID NOT miss votes because he was NEVER a member of congress/senate. He was a governor and you don't get to not vote on things. You either approve/disaprove–there is NO "present" vote.
    3. BOTH presidential candidates need to be in Washington doing their CURRENT JOB first and foremost to vote this in prior to any further economic collapse.

  94. 594

What a lot of people seem to be forgetting here is that first and foremost, they are both US Senators and chose not to give up thier posts to run in this election. It is thier job and responsibility to help put forth a solution to this mess, McCain is against the bill as it currently stands because it puts the burden on the taxpayer and does not disallow high payouts to CEOs, and other benefits to the taxpayers not just the corporations and banks…he is going to Washington to make sure his points are included in the final bill. Obama says he agrees with McCain, but isn't really making any effort to ensure it gets done. Obama is putting his personal aspirations above what is right for the country. This bill won't solve the problems, but it will help put this country on the road to recovery if done right…something McCain feels strongly about. Also, McCain disagrees with President Bush and is making it known…and also McCain has asked Obama to debate all summer and was met with resistence…so I hardly think McCain is scared of that nambypamby Obama…people, understand the facts before you spew your stupidity. Really you all make the dems look retarded.

  95. 595

It's so funny how McCain wants to show to America how "concerned" he is about the economy. Let's just sweep the dirt under the carpet and forget that Freddie Mac "at the heart of the credit crisis paid $15,000 a month from the end of 2005 through last month to a firm owned by Senator John McCain’s campaign manager." When on Sunday, John McCain made a statement saying that Rick Davis, his campaign manager, had no involvement with Freddie Mac in the past years. Way to help our economy Republican Team! Maybe that's the real reason why McCain is so "concerned" in helping our economy.
WAKE UP AMERICA! McCain-Palin don't even make up 4 years of College together! Why don't you start by looking up where our candidates went to school?!
Cut the crap and GO DEBATE! That's all I have to say :)

  96. 596

Never has.

  97. 597

Um let's see here: McCain is wanting to go back to DC to do what he was voted into the senate for, VOTE. Something Obama seems not to do. I think it just shows what kind of character Obama is: don't finish what you started. I don't want that kind of mentality in the White House. If I remember correctly, the House and Senate are both Democrat majority. Maybe Obama should help the country get out of the mess that THEY created. There will be no future if you don't fix the present.

  98. 598

Re: Urdesire – #593 wrote: "OBAMA HAS MADE MANY WISE DECISIONS IN HIS LIFE AND POLITICAL CAREER AND I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT HE WON'T CONTINUE MAKING GOOD DECISIONS AS OUR PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF."

    Yea…wise decisions.
    1. Do cocaine as a teen.
    2. Attend and donate money to a church with a America-hating pastor for OVER 20 YEARS!
    3. Be groomed into politics since 1995 by former US terrorist W. Ayers
    4. Go to Iraq and never meet with ANY of the wounded soldiers
    5. Announce candidacy for president after ONLY 143 days as a Senator
Yea–he's shown a plethora of wisdom in decision making–PLEASE…the US Presidency is not where you should be getting "on the job training" (quote from Hillary Clinton)

  99. 599

Does anyone else think the welfare system is a crock??? With how many people are abusing it??????? I am so sick of my money being used to pay for people who work off the books and live off the gov't and have brand new cars in their driveway in front of their "section 8 home". I am all for helping those in need, but are you kidding me???? I am not against the idea of welfare, I am against people abusing it while I work two jobs. Gross. If people were better to each other and put out more positive than negative we would thrive. I may be deluding myself, but that would really be nice.

  100. 600

Per Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: "“While I appreciate that both candidates have signaled their willingness to help, Congress and the Administration have a process in place to reach a solution to this unprecedented financial crisis. I understand that the candidates are putting together a joint statement at Senator Obama’s suggestion. But it would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation’s economy. At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a A JOINT STATEMENT OUTLINING THEIR SHARED PRINCIPLES AND THE CONDITIONS FOR THE TREASURY proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal."
