Barack Obama vs. John McCain: Round 1
Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama > John McCain
Did you watch?
Thoughts?
Here's the Obama campaign's official statement about their candidate's performance:
"This was a clear victory for Barack Obama on John McCain's home turf. Senator McCain offered nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies, and Barack Obama made a forceful case for change in our economy and our foreign policy. While Senator McCain wants to keep giving huge tax cuts to corporations and said nothing about the challenges Americans are facing in their daily lives, Barack Obama will be a fierce advocate for tax cuts for the middle class, affordable health care, and a new energy economy that creates millions of jobs. While foreign policy was supposed to be John McCain's top issue, Barack Obama commanded that part of the debate with a clear call to responsibly end a misguided war in Iraq so that we can finish the fight against al Qaeda in Afghanistan. John McCain needed a game-changer tonight, and by any measure he didn't get it." Obama-Biden campaign manager David Plouffe.
And the McCain campaign's take:
"There was one man who was presidential tonight, that man was John McCain. There was another who was political, that was Barack Obama. John McCain won this debate and controlled the dialogue throughout, whether it was the economy, taxes, spending, Iraq or Iran. There was a leadership gap, a judgment gap, and a boldness gap on display tonight, a fact Barack Obama acknowledged when he said John McCain was right at least five times. Tonight's debate showed John McCain in command of the issues and presenting a clear agenda for America's future." –Jill Hazelbaker, McCain-Palin 2008 Communications Director

Re: JennieB –
He wasn't attacking him personally, he was attacking the politics. Obama just showed how immature he was by smirking and making ridiculous gestures. Obama has misled the people who get every single piece of information from a news program on TV. Go do the research!
Obama lied about the Kissinger comment about meeting with Iran. Kissinger never said that the President should meet with Iran as Obama suggested. McCain never said lower level meetings shouldnt take place. Obama is the LIAR and he is an expert in rhetoric. He can't answer a question without saying, "Let me make this clear," and yet he does nothing to make anything clear. It is all a lot of talk and no action. We don't have time for someone to be trained on the job.
Re: JennieB –
The polls, like the media, are liberally schewed so it means nothing. The American Public saw a weak freshmen senator look more naive and unprepared. The question you have to ask yourself is, Did Obama make his case? The answer is no. Also, not sure what debate you were watching, but McCain never personally attacked Obama. He said he was the most liberal voting senator and criticized his voting record and his words were justified and Obama couldn't even deny most of the things. How can you say you aren't going to raise taxes when your plan clearly says that you do want higher taxes? It is the same thing with the surge, first it didn't work and then it did. He flip flops, just like John Kerry and he isn't the President today.
i am disgusted by all of those who support mccain; he's old, DISRESPECTFUL, and clearly doesn't understand the meaning of families struggling with money issues and most of all, families who are desperate for their loved ones to come home from a war we shouldn't have started in a place that doesn't even deserve to be bombed! innocent lives are claimed everyday, yet mccain is still living in the past..hello? and obama had to keep correcting that loser because he just kept going back to topics that were already discussed. mccain is such a jerk, he never ONCE looked towards obama when he was talking, which meant that he was being a cocky, inconsiderate idiot who thought he apparently was better than obama; it is a clear sign that obama knew exactly what he was talking about, he addressed the topics first all the time with such straight-out answers; this is what america needs. someone who is willing to end war not because we are "chickening" out; but because he'd rather spend it on lowering college tuitions and cutting taxes. we don't need an old man telling us that we need to stay in iraq because for some reason, thats the only way to find bin laden. well, apparently, that strategy hasn't worked for over 7 years. WAKE UP PPL!
Re: PalinsGirl –
You're my hero!!!!!! I got your back!!!!!
Re: blonde23 –
Obama is the LIAR. Go do your research!
I think McCain was thinking about which of his 13 cars he was going to drive to one of his 11 houses after the debate.Or was he just trying to think to himself about how many houses he has in case it was asked of him. Therefore he was too distracted to bring up what he would do to help the working middle class people out there.Elitist MotherFucker!!
Re: JERMAINE –
If he's out of touch explain why he predicted this collapse of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae 3 years ago. He was a part of the legislation that would have put stricter regulations on them, but the democrats of the committee voted it down. Both McCain and Obama have a lot of pull in their parties, if they want to help the economic crisis they'd be in Washington trying to bring their parties together on a plan. McCain's there, where's Obama? I want my candidate to put politics and his presidential ambitions aside and put the country first. McCain is doing so, Obama's still campaigning today. Both Obama and McCain are still senators, they have a job to do. I'd say Obama is out of touch with the economy, McCain tried to correct this years ago, Obama's never had anything to do with it. When we face a crisis I want a president on top of it, not someone who has a "call if you need me" mentality. Obama is doing nothing about the economy right now, McCain is.
Re: LusciousLiz – ok you asked me if I had heard of Palin before the last 8 weeks and I said I had and looked her up when I heard of her and in no way did I say because I looked her up i think she's ready to lead the country. so there you go…assuming.
Re: JERMAINE – Damn Jermaine…if thats you in your avatar, you are fine!!!
It scares me to death that anyone would want that war monger McCain as President.
OBAMA/BIDEN 08!
Re: labellelatine –
If you think that leaving Iraq and going into Afghanistan is going to solve everything, you are DREAMMMMMMMMMING! You liberals just don't get it. The terrorists are in all of those middle eastern countries growing stronger by the day. Newsflash - Bill Clinton could have gotten Bin Laden but he didn't. Obama is good at pointing fingers and placing blame. He voted "present" on many major issues. That is called political posturing. He knew that he would run for office and that is why he has no real record, so that he could say now that he doesn't believe in this or that. It is a JOKE.
Re: JERMAINE – you're absolutely right…but labeling democrat and republican separates who believes what and it just so happens that that will never end. As for the last 8 years, while I think Bush did the right thing military wise, he and his administration has failed us in many other ways. But I don't just blame him because our economy started getting bad when we elected a democratic congress. The president does not run the show and what they say doesn't go. Everything has to be passed through congress and the democratic congress has failed us miserably also. Not all republicans are the same as I think not all democrats are the same. I don't think you could compare Bill Clinton to Obama. I think they are completely different. I don't want to be one of those people that just thinks well the us is bad with bush I'm going to vote opposite. I did my research as well as i'm sure you have and we vote according to our beliefs.
Re: JERMAINE – Hey buddy, you can't use solar, wind, etc. to make all of the petroleum-based prodcuts, it's not just gas…learn a little about how oil runs our economy. AND THE DEMOCRATS have been running the House and Senate for the last 2 years, things looked pretty good two years ago, don't you think????? McCain/Palin 08, Obamanation NEVER…he looked like a High School Principal out there. "emmm, ahhhhh, " hilarious!
It's pretty simple -McCain lost last night pretty badly. And this week Sarah Palin will get trounced in a 90 minute grilling. How is she going to handle a high pressure debate when she can't handle a one on one interview in her own house. You know, the house she can see Russia from.LOL
——————————
So McCain-Lost
Palin-will get killed
=Obama/Biden lead 2-0
——————————-
All this with John McCain's favorite subject Iraq mostly off the table. You know Iraq, the war McCain said would be quick and easy and that they knew where the WMD's were.Yeah great judgement?? SIT DOWN OLD MAN!It's time to retire.
Re: HeatherSL – Wow, i hope you do not believe that. Due to the Republican Pres & Republican house & Senate most of the bills pasted that caused this craziness. Deregulation has all Republican fingerprints all over it. (just like kids when the parents are gone there are no rules, and the party is crazy, and things break). Also Oil and the gas probs, all Repiblican doing. And if you dont get that, please dont vote you arent educated enough on the issues.
Are most of you people as stupid as the celebutards who want to comment on politics? Did you even WATCH the debate? Obama stuttered at the start of every comment and rudely interrupted when it wasnt his turn. Did you ever hear him actually offer an idea or a plan, besides "change"??? He was a complete moron when he entered into the questions on the middle east, he has never even been there and he is a sub chair on a mid east committee…He also claimed to have "warned" the government about going into Iraq 8 years ago..Oh really, he hasnt even been a senator that long. Be scared people, be very afraid if this sad excuse for president gets in, he has no knowledge or experience. His plan consists of more money for him, his friends, and the sorry asses who dont want to work hard.
I mean really this is all the democrats had to offer? I dont personally care for Hillary but at least you wouldnt have to worry about getting hit by a bomb in LA anytime soon…
democrats always appeal to the dregs of society and the unsophisticated idiots who just want to believe that they can get something for nothing…typical, obviously Obama is your man…..he is a moron
Re: Whatupperez – Thanks I appreciate it =)
Re: Swagger –
Hey Swagger -
Hussein must have had WMD at one time. If not, he certainly would have tried. Can you overlook the fact that he committed atrocities against his own people??? MASS GENOCIDE??? Perhaps America should embrace isolationism and let the rest of the world fen for themselves. Is that your idea of America? We are helping those people attain freedom. You need to realize we live in a world where other countries are vying to become the super power. We will not succeed in asking people with nuclear power to "not attack" other countries.
Obama hasen't won anything! Biden was a poor choice, it should have been Hillary. In fact, Hillary should have been the nominee not Obama, that was the dumbest move, ever. Spare me the race card, too. That has nothing to do with it. Hillary was at least qualified. Qualified…there is an attribute we all take for granted in our elected officials.
Re: KitKat1 –
heyyy NEWSFLASH: i said end it in general. violence never solves anything.
Re: swifty73 –
Obama and ACORN.
Obama and Fannie Mae.
The record speaks for itself.
Looking the other way won't change anything.
Re: killkillkill – You can not be serious about why Obama would want to put money in education? Seriously?? That is how you get people that grow up to be smart and do good for the country. Smart, educated people start businesses and hire people. We are lacking as a country in education and many countries are beating us in the globalized market. Read or travel maybe you might learn.
Re: Swagger –
The world that you inhabit is pretty interesting. You must live in on island made entirely of swiss cheese that floats in the Atlantic instead of the US. How does someone agreeing 8 times with McCain and not able to come back on most of attacks make them the winner. News flash, Palin took down three people in a debate. And the difference is they weren't crazy. Biden already said Hillary would have probably been a better candidate. So, maybe Pain versus Hillary would be a bigger fight, but Biden, no problem. And if she does win, I guess she'll have the liberal media to knock her down like they've tried to do with McCain. Fortunately, the media tends to have little effect on votes as witnessed by John Kerry. They pushed him hard and the American public voted the fake out.
Re: southgapassion – You know that is sad that Americans dont vote for the more educated person. Yeah your right i want a 72 yr old war monger and his ditzy VP. (by the by even fellow republicans are calling for Palin to drop out. that is way 2 funny)
I think it was depressing to see two bowls of s*** resort to catty fights because not one goal which was reachable in this country going through a crisis was mentioned.
The Obama Way -
-
JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.
-
“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.
-
“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.
(Cont)
(Cont)
“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.
-
“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”
Re: Swagger –
McCain didn't lose, he crushed Obama. Obama sat their smirking at the camera, interupting McCain, and motioning to the moderator to move on. Obama didn't stand a chance. I wouldn't be so sure Biden will beat Palin either. Besides the last time I saw Biden in a debate he was telling everyone how great McCain was and that Obama was far to inexperienced to be president of the united states.
i'm mad that some people get their political news and insights from Perezhilton.com. you all need to visit a real news site once in a while…
Re: jefdo – I am a McCain supporter, liked him since I saw him in San Diego in 2000, but I don't think he pummeled Obama as I had hoped, but did just fine….I loved the crack about meeting with the Iranian President…made Obama look like an unexperienced ass….oh yeah he is an unexperienced ass! Look out! Palin has very little to lose in the VP debates, I'm waiting for another classic Biden gaffe!
Re: maryc – MaryC please do some research and economic background before you make uninformed decisions. if you did you would know the reason the republicans are dragging their feet is because they want accountability. i'm not sure i know any intelligent person who would hand someone who's made million dollar screw ups a free check and say go at it. maybe the people you should vote out are the dems who are trying to put a band-aid on the situation they created and call it a solution.
Re: jefdo – Palin doesn't stand a chance in hell. There is a reason why her campaign is keeping her away from the media. She's a stupid moron who keeps fucking up everytime she opens her mouth. When she was first picked by McDumbass, her favorable numbers were pretty high.Around 60%- Now they are at 38%.People see her on Katie couric talking about Vladamire Poutin rearing his head and flying over Alaska and she calls that her foreign policy experience, and they scratch their heads, and not knowing what Charlie Gibson was talking about several times during that interview was cringe worthy.Even Republicans on CNN and other networks are saying they can't believe some of the things she's saying and that she should not do anymore interviews. She's only debated a few people in a hick town for mayoral position.
—————————
SHE IS GOING TO GET KILLED NEXT WEEK!THUS KILLING THE McCAIN/PALIN SO CALLED TICKET.LOL
Re: Whatupperez – "Polls like the media liberal" lol, You republicans can't find anything else to blame. On November 4 you'll realize who the entire nation supports Obame and then you'll post "oh and the nation is liberal", which is fine for many of us. Certainly not fine with you.
While I don't think Mccain hit it out of the park, if anyone was truly listening, maybe they can explain how Obama said the reason we are in this mess is that we pulled out of Afghanistan too early…good point. But then to set a date of retreat for Iraq and go back into Afghanistan? Am I the only one confused here? It either takes an extremely intelligent person to understand the "success" behind this plan (this is where I fall short) or a stupid american to take it at face value. I fear we have a plethora of the later.
Re: GREEKGIRL – thank u baby.. yeah dats me.
Re: kendoll3000 – can you imagine the ridicule, had sarah palin been responsible for any of the comments coming out of biden's?……..he's adorable how dopey he comes off……..if he's as smart as he gets credit for being, he should at least be able to shut himself up if he hears himself say the word….Maaan.
Re: SquirrelLives – oh trust me i m more then confident in my abilities.. But what I was pointing out is what do these candidates plan on doing about the workforce opportunities for my generation. Im speaking for those who didn't have the opportunity to graduate from Georgia Tech like myself. Im talking about the thousands who will graduate in 09' from regular public state universities and colleges… Not to mention the thousands who attend community or junior colleges. AND i don't need the "government" to find me a job.. I think you totally missed my point.
Re: KitKat1 – First of all you said Hillary should have been the nominee not Obama, and that it was a dumb move?WTF,it wasn't a move he got more votes then her, that's how it works.
—————
Secondly, nobody disputes Sadam Hussein needed to be dealt with at some point, but you don't put on hold or diminish a mission to go after an organization that killed thousands of Americans to go off and get Saddam Hussein who meant no imminent threat to America(no WMD),against many UN officials, allies. Thus taking your eye off the ball allowing Al Quida to get stronger and then go into Iraq and kill more Americans again.
——————-
first of all people who are going to vote for mc cain get your facts straight you guys are all so ignorant and uneducated. As for the screen name elmo22292 we are not at war with Iraq because of september 11th! We are at war because bush is a greedy asshole. We went to war for the oil not because of mass destruction weapons because there were none! Read the newspaper sweetie. Besides the war is costing billions of dollars when we could use the money for education health care and other important issues. Bush brought us to war based on lies lies lies. GO OBAMA!
Oh, excuse me Number 225 that is bull to the shit what you just wrote. Hey, I
live here! I should know. I do not feel any of that crap. Where in the hell did you get that from?
I will be so glad when this election is over. Let the chips fall where they may. Nobody will stop me from voting who I feel should be President.
Have a good evening! I am sure Claire and Gov. Blunt will be curious to know about this. And life goes on.
Next Thursday will be known in history as "The day the McCain/Palin ticket was demolished"!!!
Re: erhg74 – "the entire nation?" please, the NorthEast and West Coast, but that's about it. The REAL America, where middle class and working families bust their butts everyday, is not going to vote for a Junior Senator from the political machine of Chicago. Look at the electoral maps, little has changed in 8 years. I just hope people wake up to the fact that Obummer is a joke. Hillary has more respect from me than that man. Oh yeah, Hola Argentina!:)
Re: mamajud – now who's the one being abusive, and over reacting.lol
Re: kendoll3000 – your priceless… i was not speaking with you, so please don't address me because your candidate fell short last night.
Re: JERMAINE –
I guess I'm still missing your point. I don't what you are expecting the government to do. I mean, come on. Unless you want to government to be your nanny, I don't see why anyone would need any "hand holding". Ask not what your country can do for you - Ask what can you can do for your country. JFK.
Re: nubsy – I completely agree… I was pretty undecided until now, but I think McCain took the cake. But I still don't like either one
WE"RE SCREWED 08 haha
Re: jazz86 – hahaha we went to war for oil?? REALLY?? So where's this oil we fought for? We went to war because of al quaida and Iraq was harboring them and if you did ANY research at all you would know that obama has said that the surge in Iraq has exceeded beyond his wildest dreams and obama also wants to continue to do a surge just like that in afghanistan if he is president.
Re: kendoll3000 – I think you are grossly ignorant on the issues, and i can tell your level of intelligence is lacking. I think your love for Sen. John McCain is based on your love of being prejudice. Therefore I will not enter into any really conversation with you on the issues at hand, and wish u well in life sir.lol
Re: jazz86 – I know you weren't born yesterday…maybe 1986? Anyway, saying Bush went to Iraq for the oil is stupid….where's the oil??? DUMB. He may have been given wrong information about WMD's, but there were plenty of other reasons for bringing down a tyrant like Hussien. I am not a "supporter" of this continuing war, but we can't just leave a vacuum. I have all the information I need to make an educated decision, take a look at some of Obama's other supporters on this blog, the majority are childish and profane in their comments, an obvious ignorance in my opinion.
Re: erhg74 –
Just wait until Friday. The republicans will be blaming the liberals and media for Palin's stupidity!!! LMAO! These people are so ridiculous!!
Re: SquirrelLives – Again, you have missed my point… And thats all im going to say on the matter. And no, i don't need a "nanny"lol. Wow, that was an ignorant comment to make.lol
The Reps think their man won the debate last night, and the Dems think it was their man. Obviously everyone is wearing their partisan blinders and really didn't watch this debate objectively. I really didn't see a clear winner, just a lot of rhetoric and thrown in campaign speeches, and even attempts at sophomoric heartstrings pulling (i.e., the bracelets), I find it sad that these two men are what America decided what's best for our country, and I can't imagine either one being President.
Re: JERMAINE – heehee….happens to the best of us
Re: Swagger –
Why should the campaign need to throw Palin in with media that would rather take jabs at her daughter? To correct your other statement she was in more than just mayoral debates, she was in a debate when she ran for govenor in which she easily won. Don't use a few opinions from CNN to think Republicans are against Palin, CNN is an extremely left wing biased network. I'll be interested to see Biden debate. In the democratic presidential debate he sure did speak highly of his friend McCain. Biden also let everyone know he felt that Obama was way to inexperienced for the job. I bet he'll flip flop on that idea. Obama and Biden aren't even on the same page. Recently in Pennsylvania speech Obama said they'd add more coal plants, then when talking to the crowd Biden said they cause pollution and they would not add anymore. The vice presidential debate will be a great oppurtunity for Biden to make many more statements that upset people, maybe he can talk about how much he likes McCain too like he did before, after all as we heard last night Obama agrees with McCain quite a bit.
Whoever posted that Barack was "GOBSMACKED" by John McCain last night had it right. Mr. Barack was absolutely over his head and flustered at the end. Anyone who didn't see it… well what can I say?
You people amaze me. First, you bitch that Palin is too much out there in the press b/c you Demos were crying that she was taking so much of the attention away from your Obama and that the race is for the president and not the VPs. All I heard for days was that she was making herself to present and available… NOW, she takes a step back and makes it what it is, a presidential race, and you all bitch b/c she's not there. I am independent voter as I don't believe in sticking to one side or the other b/c I believe we should vote on the person and their beliefs. This is b/c I'm smart enough to know that parties are way too political and full of corruption. All I want is the person who is most qualified for the position. I just want someone who is going to get the job done.
With that being said, McCain clearly is more prepared as he represented last night. He knew far more about the facts at hand. He even called out Obama and his 18 billion request for earmark spending. Obama quickly came back to say that he suspended that… It was priceless when McCain said, YEAH B/C YOU DECIDED TO RUN FOR OFFICE. Obama was STUMPED!!!! I'm not sure I want someone who does not have conviction. He decided to suspend for political reasons NOT for the good of the people.
Re: JERMAINE – I didn't pull the race card…YOU DID. Anyway, I have a degree in business from San Diego State University, I am hardly unintelligent. I have been follwing politics since 1976, way before you were even born. And put your shirt back on…LOL I love talking politics, so let's keep race out of it.
#2 The reason Obama kept talking about the middle class is b/c that is what he knows will get him the vote. The majority of the country falls into the middle class bracket (whether your on the bottom end of it or the upper end of it) But, you have to look at the bigger picture in all this. HE WAS EVADING QUESTIONS about foreign policy b/c he does not know anything about foreign policy, hence his response that he agrees w/McCain on many of the things McCain brought up. He was clearly bringing it back to domestic discussions b/c it was not his territory.
On the reaction that McCain was condescending and childish, they both were interrupting, they both got upset… THAT IS WHAT A DEBATE IS!!!! Your goal is to make your opponent look like a douche bag!!! IT'S CALLED MAKING A POINT to win the debate! I would venture to say that many of you did not participate in debates when you were in high school or attended them for that matter. Unfortunately, Demos are just upset that their shining star did not shine that bright last night and unfortunately, you have to jump to the defense for him. It's understandable… However, let's be honest… If it were the other way around (Obama saying many times, McCain just doesn't understand), you all would be praising Obama for mopping the floor w/McCain's ass.
I am interested to see how you all will feel when you are in your elderly years and people tell you that you are too old and decrepit and that your vote does/should not count or you can no longer do your job b/c of your age… You aren't sane, you are out of touch, or you might die…. This is a weak attack w/no backup seeing how YOU could not live past tomorrow. You could die tomorrow in a natural disaster, a car wreck, or god forbid find out that you (yes, you in your 20's, 30's, 40's) have cancer or illness that could take your life.
It's unfortunate that our society is so freaking hypocritical. It's okay for Madonna to be putting out POP music in her freaking 50's (with two kids, I might add… in which she travels the country 80% of the time) and we praise those celebrities who keep on kicking it well into their 70's as actors/directors… yet, it comes to this and you think he's out of touch!!! Give me a break. Your opinions are biased and extremely immature. I would figure to say that many of you on here are in your early 20's and will soon see the bigger picture when you hit your mid 30's and actually have a career, money, and a savings account. You, too, will see a completely different point of view… b/c when you realize that the money you have worked hard for is taxed so that it can go to your neighbor who sits his ass at home everyday or chose not to get an education… it's a entirely new ballgame!!!! AND before you start… that is not a racial statement… I know many, many, many people of all races who sit there ass at home and I pay for it via my tax dollars… I was a teacher/counselor… I saw plenty!
Re: jefdo – Like I said, Sen. McCain is "out of touch" with the economy.. And why did he all of a sudden decide, in you words.. To go to washington and do the job the American people are paying him to perform. When he has missed voting 468 times in the senate. What he did this past week was a complete political propaganda move. Which in fact back fired on him and his campaign in a very negative way.
Re: PalinsGirl – Al quida was never in Iraq until the war started.General Petrayas even said that himself. We pu off Afghanistan to go into Iraq because of weapons that didn't exist. And what happened. Al quida got stronger and entered Iraq and were able to kill more Americans (soldiers)after already killig thousands on 9/11.They went to war for supposed WOD's,which the UN said they couldn't prove were there. Why? Because they didn't have any.The bush administration lied about why they went to war before finishing their first war on terror in Afghanistan!
I don't know what debate some of you asshats watched. McCain clearly came off as more intelligent and insightful. Wishful thinking on your part, I guess.
OBAMA won, he actually came off as educated. Mc Cain was a storyteller - and what is all that whispering?? Old habits die hard.
Re: JERMAINE –
You have to make a point before someone can miss it. You are just like Obummer - young and inexperienced.
Re: hyde30 –
No, he came off as rude and arrogant!
wait…reagan did some pretty neat stuff with his presidency, didn't he??
…you know. setting off some of the most economically strong times the nation's ever seen, knockin down that wall…?
he was 73 when he was elected to his second term, and 74 by his inauguration.
mccain is 72. just sayin'. the age thing isn't really a valid argument for any americans over the age of 25…even though it may seem major to perez readers.
Re: JERMAINE –
Jermaine, and you don't think that Obama NOT going wasn't a political move… These people are not making their own decisions half of the time… they are being told what to do by advisers. If he agreed w/McCain he would have looked like a follower, if he stayed out of it he looked like he was not scared to jump into the debates. Just like Hollywood… everything is smoking mirrors.
At least McCain made the decision to do his job that he gets paid to do. I'd like for you to go to work on Monday and tell your boss that you are not going to be there for two years b/c you are going to be doing some work for another company, but you do still expect to get paid.
Yes, you can say that he had not been there to vote… but, Obama is not a saint in that department either… let's be honest. HOWEVER… this is a crisis that requires the attention of all the senators and the voice of the people are representing!
Thank you!
Re: calimol –
" It's okay for Madonna to be putting out POP music in her freaking 50's (with two kids, I might add… in which she travels the country 80% of the time) and we praise those celebrities who keep on kicking it well into their 70's as actors/directors"
Not really. If you read some of the comments about Madonna on here (and elsewhere), everyone is always saying how she's too old to be doing what's she's still doing, she needs to dress and act her age, she needs to retire, etc. It's rare that I defend Madonna, since I don't like her, but I don't see what she or singers/actors have to do with this. They aren't the ones running for President.
I thought McCain was matter of fact and won this one..we'll see for the other rounds though..
Re: JERMAINE –
They've both missed the past few votes in Senate, but the current vote on the table is FAR more important than the ones before. We may be on the verge of another depression, and Obama's doing nothing about it. McCain's choice to go back on backfired him in the eyes of Obama supporters. The rest of us find it very admirable that our candidate is putting the country before his presidential ambitions. Obama is out of touch with the economy. He claims he won't lower taxes, yet wants universal healthcare and countless other projects requring large amounts of funding, where's this money gonna come from Obama????!!!
we need McCain for energy independence…it's called Nuclear Energy folks
My final point on this subject is basically Sen Obama "served" Sen. McCain in last nights debate. All we have to do is look at the polls issued by all the major networks. They all show that the "American Public" favored Sen. Obama over Sen. McCain. I think that what we all need to get past is all the labeling going on in this election, because it is truly hurting us in the long run. Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden is the best team to began to heal the wounds that our nation has suffered over the last 8 years. Sen. McCain showed off his inability to connect with the American People. He wouldn't even look at us in the Camera as Sen. Obama did, and i believe it was do to his inability to look at America in our face and tell us lies. I mean Sen. McCain was far more interested in lying on Sen. Obama then he was on actually answering the questions posed to him. Point blank supporters of John McCain also are "out-of-touch" with what the middle class working american is faced with. John McCain is a far worst threat to america then even George W Bush. John McCain is a dynamic soldier there i no doubting that, but he simply doesn't have what it takes to lead our great nation into a bright future. I personally believe Sen Obama is the leader that America needs.
Re: mamajud – its ok.. ur right it does.
I personally never heard McCain mention the middle class or working class. He never mentioned students. To say that we Won the war in Iraq is absurd. I lived in NYC during 911 and will never forget it. I also knew that Osama Bin Laden was the major cause of this and he is hiding in a country called Afghanistan. Anyone with a Brain know's whether they want to admit it or not that this whole mess in Iraq is something the Bush Administration has been wanting to complete since George Bush Sr. This is just a continuing legacy of destruction and greed from the Bush dynasty. In my Opinion Obama was strong. He understands that we need to make friends and clean up our name as Americans with leaders from all over the world if suppose we do need them one day if there God Forbid a World War 3. I simple just can't do another 4 years of this Republican Mess.
Re: SquirrelLives – Go right ahead and be prejudice.. I find your kind to be amusing…lol
Re: JERMAINE –
Besides the democrats made McCain's decision look like a political move. Democrat Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said,"a consensus couldn't be achieved without John McCain's leadership" referring to the bailout. Then once McCain came back to Washington Reid said they didn't need him and it was just a political move. Very tasteless move by Mr.Reid. The democrats can do shady thing like Harry Reid, in the meantime McCain will continue to help save us from entering another depression while Obama campaigns.
Re: JERMAINE –
Weak.
Obama supporters are a bunch of whiners.
I thought McCain did well the only thing that really hurt him last night was that Palin was no where to be seen to offer any analysis or input post debate…
She needs to get her act together
Re: calimol – No actually George W. Bush called upon Sen. Obama to be present. Thats not the point what your making. I absolutely think both men should have been present, because this "Bail-Out" deal will affect either Senators administrations. My thing is Sen. McCain used that as his opportunity to "try" and back out last evenings debate.
Re: coco – i completely agree with everything you said in your statement.
Umm not sure which debate some of you were watching because the debate I saw had absolutely no clear winner. Not only did often not properly answer the questions asked them but they also demonstrated some pretty sub-par public speaking skills. Frankly, I could have gone up there and done a much better job.
You can't believe the polls though since most of us AVOID them
Re: SquirrelLives – And what's with this prejudice thing from Jermaine, he keeps bringing it up. If the Democratic nominee was white with Obama's lack of experience…he'd have been eaten ALIVE! It's pathetic.
Re: elmo22292 –
Hi young man in the Football jersey you need to go wayyy back and really find out why we are in Iraq fighting a war that is not a justified war. We are fighting a war that the Bush Dynasty has been wanting to fight for their own capital. Just go to Wikipedia and read it.
Re: JERMAINE – Post 275
Prejudiced against what? Who? I don't get your accusation. Exactly what did I say to have you accuse me of being prejudiced? Please explain.
Freedom of speech is great, but that doesn't mean that the uneducated & uniformed (read: morons) need to post as much as they do. Never assume that just because Obama says McCain lies that Obama is correct (and vice versa). Fact check, read your history, make up your OWN minds and don't just spew dogma. It seems both candidates took some liberties with their interpretations of events.
Re: kendoll3000 – Post 283
Jermaine always does that. He's used racial slurs against me in the past. He's the one suffering from prejudice. I've never let race enter into anything I've ever said on here. That's not my style. I've blasted him for this before and he knows it.
Re: SquirrelLives – See thats the kind of thinking that continues to divide our nation. The same can be said about supporters of McCain. See your looking for a fight, because you ignorant.. Thats the only way you can garner some attention, so really i feel sorry for you man. Anyways, back to the issues. Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain need to get a bit more "specific" in the upcoming debates.
Re: kendoll3000 – Don't be afraid to talk to me sir, rather then about me.lol! Like i said before Prejudice and racism is truly alive and well in america. People like yourself and others on this blog represent that sad fact. Sen. Obama for some strange reason threats some, not because of his politics, but because of who he is.
McCain was evidentally set on not showing up and it showed. He did not do his research. There are numerous articles available at cnn.com where you can fact check and almost everything that he accused Obama of is untrue. He's a desperate, pathetic old man that is grasping at straws…which is the reason he chose Palin as his running mate. I wouldn't vote for him if he was the ONLY candidate. He didn't address Obama once nro did he look at him. And most of the time he sounded like a grandfather chastisizing his grandson…"you're inecperienced, you're naive" how about answering a question rather than name calling and avoiding issues??
Re: Cutie – How can she get her act together when they are sheltering her like a child? She should quit and all women (and men) should see this for what it is, SEXISM! They would NEVER shield her from interviews or direct questioning from the media if she were a man.
McCain looked like an idiot.
To be more specific, it looked like he was prepped to be put in his coffin. With all of the people around him, why have none of them told him to cut his comb over off so it isn't hanging down on the wrong side of his head?
Re: JERMAINE – Post 288
I call'em like I see'em.
Re: obamaisblackdevil – YOU ARE A RACIST PIECE OF SHIT AND SHOULD BE SHOT. Why don't you go back to the country that your ancestors hail from because AMERICA is DIVERSE and we don't want YOU HERE.
Re: JERMAINE – 289 what a moronic rant
you seem to play this race victim card when no one mentioned it. get over yourself.
Re: JERMAINE –
kendoll hasn't said anything racist, don't accuse him of doing so. Like I said before Democrat Harry Reid made the bailout about politics by saying they couldn't get anything done with McCain, than saying the opposite when McCain arrived. You are right about one thing, the debates do need to get more specific especially on Obama's side. I remember when the moderator asked Obama TWICE what projects he would put on the back burner due to the bailout, obama had no answer, McCain did. By not taking part in the meetings it seems obama's lack of knowledge concerning our economic crisis is growing.
Re: SquirrelLives – If you have convinced yourself that you aren't prejudice against voters whom favor Sen. Obama then thats on you man. I shouldn't have to dissect every condescending statement you have posted this evening against anyone who is in support of Sen. Obama. You see the art of prejudice & racism is something that is deeply rooted into some people. I think it's sad that you would make so many ignorant statement towards people you don't even know.
Obama could have went out there and said America sucks ass and you Libs would still say he won, he was great, he was fantastic; and McCain is old.
