Barack Obama vs. John McCain: Round 1

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama > John McCain

obama.jpg

Did you watch?

Thoughts?

Here's the Obama campaign's official statement about their candidate's performance:

"This was a clear victory for Barack Obama on John McCain's home turf. Senator McCain offered nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies, and Barack Obama made a forceful case for change in our economy and our foreign policy. While Senator McCain wants to keep giving huge tax cuts to corporations and said nothing about the challenges Americans are facing in their daily lives, Barack Obama will be a fierce advocate for tax cuts for the middle class, affordable health care, and a new energy economy that creates millions of jobs. While foreign policy was supposed to be John McCain's top issue, Barack Obama commanded that part of the debate with a clear call to responsibly end a misguided war in Iraq so that we can finish the fight against al Qaeda in Afghanistan. John McCain needed a game-changer tonight, and by any measure he didn't get it." Obama-Biden campaign manager David Plouffe.

And the McCain campaign's take:

"There was one man who was presidential tonight, that man was John McCain. There was another who was political, that was Barack Obama. John McCain won this debate and controlled the dialogue throughout, whether it was the economy, taxes, spending, Iraq or Iran. There was a leadership gap, a judgment gap, and a boldness gap on display tonight, a fact Barack Obama acknowledged when he said John McCain was right at least five times. Tonight's debate showed John McCain in command of the issues and presenting a clear agenda for America's future." –Jill Hazelbaker, McCain-Palin 2008 Communications Director

Re: SquirrelLives – AND I now see why you are a supporter of Sen. McCain.. Man you lie just as much as he does.lol! When have I ever called anyone a racial slur?? You are something else.. you know telling habitual lies is a physiological issue that you may need to take medication for. I don't know you from a can of paint sir, nor do I ever remember conversing with you ever! So please do not misrepresent me or anyone else for that matter.lol

  2. 302

I'M SO GLAD MCSTAIN CAN AFFORD HIS OWN DRIVER! THAT'S ONE LESS AARP LUNATIC ON THE ROAD ENDANGERING YOUNGER PEOPLE WHO STILL HAVE THEIR WHOLE LIVES AHEAD OF THEM, UNLIKE THIS EARLY ONSET DEMENTIA CANDIDATE!!! HE'S AN ORNERY OLD COOT, TOO!

Re: Cutie – We see now that you are also racist. You don't know me, nor was there a need for you to address me. Get over yourself. I wouldn't give you the time of day.lol

    Re: JERMAINE – Post 298
You are unbelievable. I went back and read everything I've posted and I can't see where I've said anything even remotely racist. I called Obama supporters whiners. Sorry if you can't take it. But to call me racist is uncalled for. You should be ashamed.

Re: jefdo – kendall played himself.. i never said that ignorant person was racist.. He referred to me in a post, and i simply let him know i won't tolerate negativity. I mean hey.. it's politics.. Nothing personal.

  8. 308

Okay Presidential candidates! What do you plan on doing NOW about the fact that the southeast literally has NO gas. I mean, hello. Every single gas station in town is OUT! People are stranded, and stations are closing left and right. You might promise offshore drilling and alternative sources of energy, but how is that going to help me get to work tomorrow. What do you plan on doing NOW to help those of us who are barely getting by? I would like to hear this issue addressed PRONTO. Help me decide who to vote for!

Re: sparkys nemesis – Maybe you should look up why it is that Ayers is a free man, you know if he's such a terrorist. Why didn't Regan, Clinton, Nixon, Bush 1 or 2 do anything about it if this guy was such a threat. Barack Obama was 7 when the WEather Underground existed, Look up Weather Underground and Cointelpro and see what you get.

  12. 312

Re: wifey #11 – I can promise you that John McCain's policy's will NOT help you.

    Re: JERMAINE
The first time I went off on you (about a month ago) you called me a cracker. Remember?? After I blasted you, you changed your tone towards me and apologized. And now you pull this same crap. Sad.

  14. 314

    Re: JERMAINE
I'm not going to stand by and let you smear me. I haven't stooped to the lows that you have. You can disagree with my politics, but do not insult me by calling me a racist when you know good and well you are out of line. Now if you can show me where I've ever gone there, then please, tell me where and when. Be specific.

  15. 315

Ok you guys.. It's been real, but I actually have a life so I gotta split. What i will say in closing is that this is a VERY important election year. The debate last night proved Sen. Obama's case. We can all go back and forth with these petty arguments, but really that is all irrelevant to the issues. If i offended anyone by pointing out their biased, prejudice, racist views, and beliefs then I do NOT apologize. I do challenge you all to rise above all the propaganda and think about our country, our families, and our future moving forward. AND please learn to delete the words "Race-Card" from your vocabularies whenever some calls you out on your prejudice comments. Goodnight!
    Obama 08'

  16. 316

    M. Obama stop trying to be friendly and calling McCain : John! Their would not have been real elections, everyone wanted to believe in Obama, but he has got to show some ferocity. America needs a guy with big balls! Too much social kills the working class, a compromise must be found, the one who will be elected is the one who will see in the adversary smart ideas and who will embrace for the sake of a country weakening itself. A weak economy can weigh on so many subject and foreign affairs, they better get that asap!

  17. 317

Guess again McCain camp. Looks like Obama kicked your ass in the debate per the polls.

Poll Shows Obama Came Out Ahead In Debate
    Campaign '08 Complete Coverage
    About The Presidential Debate
OXFORD, Miss. (CBS News) ― The first presidential debate helped uncommitted voters learn about the candidates - and it appears that Democrat Barack Obama benefited the most, according to a CBS News/Knowledge Networks poll taken immediately following the debate.

Uncommitted voters said Obama won the debate against Republican John McCain, and more of those voters improved their opinion of the Democrat. But while 66 percent think Obama would make the right decisions about the economy, 56 percent think McCain would do so about Iraq.

But while eight in 10 uncommitted voters who watched the debate think McCain is prepared to be president, six in 10 now think Obama is prepared as well - a significant improvement from his standing among these same voters before the debate. The percentage of watchers who think Obama understands their needs and problems has also increased by 21 points, while a majority still say McCain does not.

  22. 322

Re: suskiru – don't read alot into those polls, either way, how big was the sample? It has to be in the thousands to really matter. Most of those quick takes are around 500 respondents. I don't really care. This election is down to a few states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Colorado and maybe Florida. Those are the states to watch.

  23. 323

you could see john maccain hate it was downright scary

  24. 324

why does it sound like a high schooler wrote mccains take… his sounds very unprofessional and almost childish in grammar. while obamas sound well thought out and dignified. and yes obama is amazing!

  25. 325

    re: obamaisblackdevil…

Are you a native american? Chances are you are not so maybe you should go back to wherever it is you are from.

I get so tired of this 'black people should just go back to africa' crap. Ummm, so if that is the way you feel, then maybe you should go back to the country your ancestors came from when they came here and stole the land from the native americans.

  26. 326

    Re: JERMAINE

Jermaine, you are the only one bringing up race. I am from Illinois and I voted for Alan Keyes, who ran against Barack Obama, because he was the better candidate. Alan Keyes was African-American. There is no propoganda with Barack Obama. He is garbage. I am from his Senate District so I would know better than you. He is do nothing and say everything. He ironically is from a racist church which I have personally been to and been made to feel I didn't belong because I wasn't Black. Barack voted against legistlation to give Hispanics an equal vote and representation. He wants to raise our taxes and he is friends with garbage like Tony Rezko and other people going to jail. So, take your Obama 08 and shove it. This company will go down the drain with him and his fake bs.

  28. 328

Obama said he wanted to bring Iraq troops home and send in troops to afganistan and he said he would fight pakistan too. Obama is for war just not iraq. Do you think afganistan and pakistan are happy with obama? sounds like he opened a can of worms already.

  29. 329

I don't think Obama's rep actually watched the debate. If he did, he was on crack. This was a clear win for McCain. McCain/Palin 08!!!

  30. 330

    McCain vs. Obama round 1
To be honest I thought w/ the debate focusing on Foreign Policy that McCain would knock this ut the ballpark… THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. Obama was gracious in giving McCain credit where credit was due and still managed to stick to the Big Picture. Obama said yeah the surge worked, however; we shouldn't havebeen there in the first place… I STILL AGREE W/ That. The war in Iraq has strengthend Iran why? b/c of the unification of the shiite Muslims! Iran and Iraq WERE enemies and now the Taliban exists in a country where once thee was no Taliban. For those that are confused on the Muslim issue Google the Caliphate and read why knowing the differences in Muslim culture matter. On the issue of Afghanistan and Pakistan we will definately NEED Special Forces in Northern Afghanistan b/c we're dealing w/ a "tribal" society NOT a structured government and in order to win in Afghanistan we MUST win over those tribal leaders. IMO, Obama held his own despite McCain's exp. In Foreign policy and Obama pummelled McCain in regards to the economy. Overall I tought this would be John's it was NOT he NEEDED to hit t out the ballpark and that just DID NOT happen……..

  31. 331

    Re: erhg74

You want to argue why Obama is an idiot besides the fact that the media is backing him. What else would you call the View kissing his ass, MSNBC, all the liberal celebrities. But you know what, the people are coming out to support the Republicans and that is the true sign. And this election is not over, There is a long way to go. And if McCain loses, we don't have Bill Clinton on our hands, we have Jimmy Carter and Barack will be lucky to make it a whole term with his radical attitude. Impeachment came with Clinton, I can only imagine what will happen with Obama. Kerry was in a similar position at this point in the campaign and guess what happened to him? He's not president.

  32. 332

My personal favorite statement on foreign policy:
""You said it was going to be quick and easy," Obama said. "You said we knew where the weapons of mass destruction were. You were wrong. You said that we were going to be greeted as liberators. You were wrong. You said that there was no history of violence between Shiite and Sunni. And you were wrong." ~ Obama to McCain

  33. 333

obama won just be saying one statement.
"10 days ago john mccain days ago said the economy was fundamentaly sound."
    now what mccain?
he just got pwned by obama.

  34. 334

OBAMA ROCKED! MCCHOKE ANY DAY NOW SUCKED! PALIN AND SIMPLE!

  35. 335

    WHOOAH!

  36. 336

This is just more of the Republicans telling you what to think about what you saw, because they are speaking directly to their "core membership", which is the Christian Network cult; exercising a form of brainwashing over those mindless lemmings. Unfortunately, the mindless lemmings march in deliberate haste to the voting booths, so the only way to challenge them is to make sure and vote for your own majorities. Don't let your own majorities down by ditching out on the vote, or the mindless lemmings will put corruption back into power in your country.
    ~..~

  37. 337

All I have to say is I am tired of hearing about the Ole' Days. It's 2008 we are dealing with a totally different generation. I am tired of the republicans only seeing things one way. It's so obvious that McCain is only looking out for himself and his own people. Not once did he mention a full proof plan for people like me in the middle class. College tuition is killing my parents right along with their mortgage and bills.

To all you people that thinks Obama lost because he was stuttering and interrupting McCain. It doesn't matter if stumbled a couple of times the only thing that matters is the substance of what you are trying to say and wouldn't you interrupt someone if they were putting word in your mouth speaking untruths. That's so typical of Republicans always playing the victim. All have to say about that is I fill sorry for Biden when he debates Palin because all the republicans are going to say is that he is sexist and mean. God bless him because everything he says against her will be taken out of context. Just like everyone else who said anything negative about her.

  42. 342

McCain/Palin supporters are just plain STUPID. Anyone with half a brain knows that the last thing this country needs right now is another republican in the white house. Wake up you mindless drones!

  43. 343

    Re: uraPIGperez

And what do you call the liberal media. Half the people telling you to vote for Obama have no idea why they are voting for him, just cause. They don't know that he has done nothing for the state of Illinois which he has represented in the Illinois Senate. Democrats are doing the same thing with people that have historically voted Democrat. What do you call teams who are increasing voting by going into low income communities and then selling Barack Obama t-shirts on the side. I saw it. Is that who the Democrats consider their core. Obama didn't win the debate. He looked like an overpolished idiot who was quite frankly green.

  44. 344

Re: coco – you're right its a great idea to get information from wikipedia. and all other information on the iraq war you probably get from liberal sources. i admit the iraq war was started unorganized and not made with a clear plan but was started with good intentions

maryc [12] says: Did McCain really say "horsesh*t" under his breath twice on TV. Discuss–what should his fine be?

Well, at least John McCain is articulate. That defines "exactly" what is coming out of his own mouth.

  46. 346

Re: Tree hugger – and things have been soooo great the last two years with Nancy Pelosi and the Dems DOING NOTHING with their control of the House and Senate. GIVE ME A BREAK, it's Congress that passes the legislation and you can say what you want about Republicans, but where's all the "change" the Dems were to bring. Our economy is tanking for alot of reasons and there is blame to go all around, but blaming the Republicans is just plain ignorance on your part.

  47. 347

    Re: Tree hugger

Anybody who thinks this country needs a radical racist candidate with ties to terrorism is crazy and stupid? Personally I'd rather have two candidates with a record of reform versus a guy who speaks out of both sides of his mouth every five seconds. One minute no drilling, then drilling. One minute troops home and then troops to Afghanistan. This guy is a joke, wake up!

We don't need a hatchet, we need a scapel to decide where to cut spending ;) Not once did McCain say the words Middle class and he RARELY looked into the camera to connect to us the people. Overall I thought this would be John's it was NOT he NEEDED to hit it out the ballpark and that just DID NOT happen……..

    Re: mark18usa

Mark have you taken your happy pills today? You don't need to type in caps. It doesn't make you more correct. Obama didn't win the debate. You can't agree with your competitor 8 times and be on the offensive the whole time. He couldn't even defend his higher taxation. It all depends on how you are looking at it. And several polls have been done, Hillary supporters have not decided yet. But, they definitely have not fallen into the Obama or the McCain camp. But, several prominent Hillary contributors have switched to McCain. This election is not over and you are going to see a great Sarah next week.

  54. 354

Sorry guys but McCain looked so old, he was yellow! The left side of his face was sagging and he voice was really soft and shaky. Anyone saying different is not facing the reality that he is not fit to lead this country! Maybe, eight years ago, but not now.
We can't have a president that needs to go to bed by 7:39 and wake up at 10:00.
Just can't work. Sad, felt sorry for him. He flashed his yellow teeth a few times but was looking down with his "pen" and was only talking from rehearsed speeches. He would sway any question answering with a pre-fabricated answer.
    .
OBAMA WAS SO STRONG AND AWESOME! CLEARLY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF ALL ASPECTS AND IN CONTROL OF HIMSELF. HANDSOME AND DIGNIFIED! OBAMA REPRESENTED IN A BIG WAY!
    .
McCain looked down, laughed nervously, coughed and flashed his yellow teeth. He was so sad.
    .
    OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!
THE RIGHT PERSON FOR OUR COUNTRY! Not just someone who thinks he's right.
    .
    MCCAIN MISSED HIS OPPORTUNITY!

    Re: kendoll3000
To add to what you said about how Nancy Pelosi and the DEMS have done nothing in congress. The head guys in the financial department of our congress Barney Frank and Chris Dodd said a few years ago that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were strong companies that didn't need further regulation. McCain co-sponsered legislation to put strong regulations on those companies, but the DEMS in the committee voted it down. Now Frank and Dodd are trying to act like great saviors when they should be hanging their head in shame for not catching this huge mistake.

Re: elmo22292 – We are not in Iraq because of 9/11. We went there because Bush LIED about Weapons of Mass Destruction. He wanted Saddam, and he wanted the oil. Nothing more to it. 9/11 Is about the Taliban, about OSAMA BIN LADEN Who we STILL have not brought to justice. Get your head out of your rear and face the facts. The war in Iraq was based on Bush's Lies.

  58. 358

Re: sweetpiece – Maybe you need to adjust the color on your TV, McCain looked pretty good to me. Obumble was "aaahhhing" and "uuuhing" and kept looking to the moderator….like "Not Fair, Jim…." Fact: Obama was clearly prepared and eager for this debate.
    :
Fact: McCain was clearly unprepared and not eager for this debate.
    :

  61. 361

Go to Factcheck.org to see all of the mistruths - some from Obama, most from McCain. There is a difference in lying about something and taking something out of context and exploiting it, which is something McCain did very well.

I have to say, the funniest thing I noticed (and have not heard anyone else comment on it) is that Obama would make a statement about X then McCain would say "I guess he doesn't understand" or some fashion of that statement. Then McCain would literally repeat the same things that Obama had stated before! The moderator even turned to Obama one time and said "so there basically is no difference in that" (or something along the lines). I guess McCain's political machine told him to keep saying that Obama doesnt understand, but they didn't realize he was going to say it about almost everything, even things McCain himself didn't understand.

This debate reminded me of the Nixon/JFK debate. McCain looked stiff, sweaty, nervous (especially at the beginning) and refused to make eye contact with anyone but the moderator, while Obama appeared put together and in control. 100% Obama win in this debate. The funny debate will be next week. I can't wait to see what Palin pulls out her ass.

    Re: maryc
I thought I heard Obama say damn once

  63. 363

    Re: MrsHellfire
Yeah because he's worked hard and Earned It! Unlike others who take out Loans they know they can't afford or sit on their asses taking free handouts from the government. Since when did it become a bad thing to own houses? At least McCains houses came from hard work Unlike Obama who got his 1.65 million dollar "donation" for his home from a convicted terrorist!
    -
McCain did much better at the debate, kept his composer unlike Obama who can't speak a sentence without his Um, yeah, um..not to mentioned how many times did he tell McCain he was RIGHT! It doesn't matter though all the Obama Bin Biden Lover's will continue listening to his terrible economic plan baised of Sociolism which DOES NOT WORK! and Marxist view points which are the grounding foundation of Communist Countries, I pray we never have the type of "Change" Obama wants because it wont be good in anyway!

  64. 364

    Re: elmo22292

You must not understand AT ALL. Yes Iraq was a threat when we went to war, but they were a very small threat. Afghanistan was the huge threat. But we weren't getting anywhere there so we went to war in Iraq. It has been proven that Cheney had someone doctor documents saying Iraq had been building up on nuclear programs, etc. Since we have been in Iraq, we have seen al qaeda move into the country and recruit. They werent there before! The Iraqi war has bred terrorists.

Our soldiers are brave and are over there sacrificing their lives. Shouldn't we show them the respect to put them in the place where they will make the most gains?

  65. 365

Re: Whatupperez – I don't agree with you. If you think Obama's views as somehow "radical" and still he gets the elected president, that means the majority of people in America agrees and support his plans and views. Last time I checked we live in Democracy. What you describe in your post (he will be lucky to complete a term) is assuming that we live in dictatorial regimen where military is going to take control of the country or something crazy like that. In democracy we respect what majority of people think. And if majority backs up "change" then it will be "change" even right wing minds call it "radical", even if right wing don't like it.

I think you might be in fear (or just trying to alarm by spreading senseless fear). Nothing crazy can possibly happen, last time I checked I also understood we have a congress and that's very mixed in views. Every time a decision is made by a president, that needs to be for the benefit of everyone. So don't worry, you'll be just fine.. even when Obama gets elected that you do know and I do know it's most likely what is going to happen.

  66. 366

What about McCain's comment about America being the #1 innovator and importer/exportere? Hello, China? Japan Remember them?

  67. 367

    Re: Yadayada
Let's see if you're still saying that when Iran and N Korea finish their Nuclear Program and threaten to Nuke the US right after they destroy Isreal…you'll be regretting that the US did nothing and didnt bomb their nuclear facilities early, but for people who can't see whats going on in the world, it would take another incredible disaster for you to wake up, and by then it would be too late. Guess what, you might be against war, But Al Quida, Hammas, N Korea, Iran, and Russia are not. I guess you think we should just crawl up into a ball and let these countries do whatever they want because thats about all Obama would do!

  68. 368

Re: secondcoming – Obama also said, "That's not true, John" a hundred more times than "You're right" or "He's right." So Obama agreed with McCain on something…is he not allowed to say so? McCain wouldn't even look Obama in the eye or look at the camera. He just looked down trying to think of something to say other than "uh, earmarks" and "we've got to cut spending." He didn't say anything of substance for the entire hour and a half.
I must not have been watching the same debate as his camp.

Hey Retard where have you been these past years..probably not paying any attention to foreign affairs until you jumped on the Obama Bandwagon. We went to Iraq because Hussein was giving Al Queda and Iran among others Nuclear Intelligents to build a Nuclear weapon to use against our country. Al Quida was also centered in Iraq were taking control of the country. Thousands of Iraqi Citizens were being killed off and THANKS TO THE US Saddam Hussein was captured and Hung, and Al Quida are now hiding in the Hills of Packistan.
    -
It makes no sense to withdrawl troups from Iraq and rid all the hard work we've just done these last several years and our enemy countries will percieve that as a weak move. Right now Afghanistan is undergoing continuious terrorist attacks and we need to also focus extra attention in Afghanistant, but withdrawing from Iraq is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of, you don't leave when the job is almost complete, you leave when It Is Complete!

Re: PalinsGirl – Watch your girl give an interview if you want to see babbling. She can't answer her way out of a paper bag. Katie Couric had to tell her to cut the shit and give some examples of what legislation McCain helped to pass and all Palin could think of to say is "I'll try to find some and get them to ya." She's a real peach.

    Re: JERMAINE
At least he Got Obama's Name Right! What Presidential Candidate can't get their opponents name right during one of the most important Presidential Debates, McCain might be older, but Obama's obviously the one who's going senile.

Please, Obama as usually just studdard his sentences along, he didn't win anything by a long shot!

first there was no clear winner, but i would give edge to McCain simply because Obama can not speak worth shit, all is stuttering and stumbling around for stuff to say was quite annoying to listen to, and that is because he is trying talk about stuff he as no clue about cause he has no exp. and all those commenting on Palin, it is not Like Biden is such a wonderful choice, he has is own health problems, plus he is a DC cronies, he is not for change, and he is the dumbest senator in the senate from a recent poll put out. lets see some other debates and then make a choice, but can we please STOP having Jim Leher as a moderator!! He Blows!!!

WE HAD EVERY REASON TO INVADE IRAQ AND WE WERE PROTECTING THE IRAQI CIVILIANS FROM BEING KILLED OFF BY THE THOUSANDS UNDER SADDAM HUSSEINS RULE. AL QUEDA WAS HIDING OUT AND TAKING OVER THE COUNTRY. IT WAS PROVEN SADDAM HUSSEIN WAS GIVING NUCLEAR INTELLEGENTS TO AL QUIDA AND IRAN…GET A FUCKING CLUE PEOPLE!!!!! WE ARE WINNING THE WAR AGAINST TERROR BY BEING IN IRAQ AND WE WOULD LOOSE VERY SOON IF WE LEFT!

    Last I Checked…….
    -
We didn't start the war, we didn't fly 2 planes into the twin towers, 1 into the pentagon and another headed for the white house
    -
last i checked the US is not selling Nuclear Intellegents to Terrorist Organizations who've blatently said they'd like to wipe the US off the face of the earth..I take that as a pretty serious reason to go to war because if we didn't and don't continue to fight this war, you, me, and your kids might not have a free country to live in anymore!

  81. 381

    Re: JERMAINE
Then you might think about voting for Mccain who will help support big business that can provide you those jobs. See in Basic Economics people should know that if you tax the shit out of corporations, all it does is effect those working and trying to get jobs. It results in massive lay offs, paycuts, and no new hiring because the companies will no longer be able to afford it. Lets research a little economics, if you're that worried about future work, then read more into Mccain and stop blindly following Obama.

    Re: jazz86
Ok Who's the Idiot, yeah we went to war for the OIL…guess what Retard have you seen our high gas prices????? WE BUY OIL, we aren't getting oil from Iraq and we're not trying to take over there country to get their oil (unlike what Russia is doing to Georgia), we purchase it through them and other countries we shouldn't be purchasing oil from. We have plenty of our own oil in the US if the idiotic democratic congress would let us drill…you just speak from your ass and repeat whatever the idiots around you say.

Obama was born in the USA, Hawaii to be exact.

McCain was not born in the USA, he was born in Panama.

    You are a racist bigot.

    Vote Obama!

  84. 384

…. and who got their facts incorrect???

    FROM KISSINGER HIMSELF:

Immediately after the debate, the McCain campaign released a statement from Kissinger backing the Republican nominee's sentiments on structuring any talks with Iran.

"Sen. McCain is right. I would not recommend the next president of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the presidential level," Kissinger said in the statement.

"My views on this issue are entirely compatible with the views of my friend Sen. John McCain. We do not agree on everything, but we do agree that any negotiations with Iran must be geared to reality."

    Re: arrora
Your response to jermaine was absolutely right. People seem to have the idea that raising taxes on big businesses(which is what Obama wants to do) benefits the middle class and most Americans, that's ridiculous. Lowering taxes on big businesses create more jobs. When these corporations are taxed to highly people get laid off or the business goes overseas and hard working Americans lose there jobs. If Jermaine is so concerned about employment after graduation, his candidate will do nothing to help him.

Re: swifty73 – Hey swifty I didn't say that education isn't important i said if you have to prioritize the immediacy of important things that extra funding for early start education will not boost the economy right away. I do however agree that down the road 16-20 years from now with a more educated generation of american that yes it will help the economy but we need a boost now! So I don't think the extra funding for education and health care that obama is proposing aren't neccessary right now. There is however a question I want to ask you: what would the next few generations of college do if there were no jobs for them when they finished school?

You pointed out that the United States isn't ahead of all other countries in education. However you have to understand that many of those countries are much smaller than the united states. It's easier to monitor things such as education in countries that are more centralized. I went to school in fairfax county our while I was in High school 8 of our public High Schools ranked in the top 100 in the country. The problem is that the United States has very diverse regions and there are some regions of the country that don't have the money to fund education such as appalachia. Statistically these outliers bring statistical means for ranking educations in this country down quite a bit.

    Re: wifey #11
If the congress would pass legislation for Off Shore Drilling, there would automatically be a reduction in Gas prices wether or not it takes 10yrs to use..thats just an excuse..anytime something happens, like a hurrican for example prices go up..just the mere act of starting to drill of shore would not only reduce oil prices, but it would also make us more self reliant…and we wouldn't be buying our oil from countries who then use our money to support terrorism against our country.

  90. 390

obviously each camp is going to insist that they won the debate, just like the majority of Republicans think McCain won, and the Democrats think Obama won. Personally, neither one of them blew me away, both were slightly petty and had their ignorant moments. I just wish they both would stfu with the lies and the exaggerations and tell the truth for once. Is that SO much to ask for in a presidential candidate……? UGH haha.

  91. 391

A couple of observations: 1. McCain did not look at Obama throughout the entire debate - not even in that most awkward moment when Obama was forced to reiterate his point directly to him. What was that about? It read as arrogant, dismissive and bad tempered.
    2. Obama allowed himself to be overrun by McCain in verbal jousts - any time the two were talking over each other, McCain barrelled through - now whether this is a sign of strength or weakness I don’t know. One one hand, it makes McCain look stronger in purpose and Obama look out of his depth. On the other hand, it may speak to McCain’s inability to engage in a dialogue, rather to bullishly stick to his own point of view, regardless of merit.

  92. 392

    Part 2!
    3. The catch-phrases of the debate: Obama ‘doesn’t understand’ and McCain ‘is right’. Funnily enough, I think both of these soundbites make Obama look better. Each time McCain countered a point, he was defensive and a little degrading. Obama on the other hand was able to acknowledge area of comment ground (a more respectful gesture), and then move onto the differences in position. This seemed far more measured and well-rounded perspective.

Interesting, and I will look forward to the V.P debate next week - bless cable TV, bringing me U.S cable news live - I must say, I cringed watching the Katie Couric interview. It was very uncomfortable, and as a U.S ally, made me glad our P.M is well versed in foreign policy… I think it will either make or break her.

Please all of you guys, vote knowing the rest of the world has a huge stake in your decision. We are counting on you to get this right.

    Re: jrnpp

Are you kidding? You clearly need to do some research and get off the bandwagon until you know what you are talking about. I'm all about respecting people's opinions as long as they at least make sense. Do you know that Obama does not believe in same-sex marriage… he'll agree to a civil union, but he's not a supporter of the Gays as you might think.

You are relaying the same old rhetoric that people label the Republicans as… greedy, only looking out for the rich, yada yada yada… do research sweetie! The reason they look out for corporations and businesses is so that you can have a job. If you take money from the corps, they can't afford health care, benefits, jobs, etc…. Hence his statement to drop the tax rate for businesses from 35% to a lower number. Again, this is why we are where we are today B/C Congress is dominating Congress right now… not the republicans!!!

  95. 395

    Re: jrnpp

Do you know what a lobbyist is? Do you think Obama is not involved in lobbyists? Please, he's the #2 senator who has gained monies from them. Biden's son was a lobbyist for pete's sake who conveniently left when his daddy became the VP running mate.

Where do you get your facts regarding the 100% of the time in reference to the voting record….

Yeah… Joe Biden who thought TVs were invented in the 1920's. I'll agree it might be a humorous debate to watch the both of them, but they both have made very ridiculous statements… the media is biased and that is why you've not heard all of them!

What foreign experience does Obama have… he said last night that he asked Biden b/c he doesn't have the experience.

For everyone's sake… please do your research outside of CNN, MSNBC, and your PerezHilton blog site. You are throwing statements around that are false and inaccurate. They are biased!!!!

  96. 396

Re: swifty73 – You're right congress and the oval office being republican was definitely bad for our country because out system of checks and balances were skewed. We have dems in the house and dems in the senate having a republican president would let us make sure that we don't get too liberal or conservative with new legislation.

  97. 397

AND… McCain is not ANTI-GAY!!! That's a blanket statement that you can not say. He doesn't support a marriages. Neither does Obama. They both actually agree that it should be left up to the states… AGAIN… do your freaking research!!!

  98. 398

Re: jrnpp – - Obama wants to Tax the people who provide you jobs by 50% so guess what happens???? Business's Fail, Citizens can no longer open business because they cant pay the taxes, there are massive lay offs, and people entering the work force can't get hired.OBAMA IS NOT GIVING US ALL TAX BREAKS, PLEASE TELL ME OF HIS PLAN BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HAVE ONE!! THIS IS BASIC ECONOMICS PEOPLE DO YOUR RESEARCH - SECONDLY Ending the War and Bringing all the Troups Back Means WE LOST, WE LOOK WEAK, and gives Al Quida just the chance they were waiting for to attack the US again when our guard is down. Why would we end a war when Terrorist are still planning to destroy our country, when Leaders of Russia are giving Iran Weapons, when N Korea and Iran are reestablishing their nuclear programs??? Would you rather have THE US GET A NUCLEAR BOMB DROPPED ON US OR WITHDRAWING FROM A WAR THAT ISN'T FINISHED? IF OUR COUNTRY NEEDS TO BE IN IRAQ TO PREVENT THE US FROM ANOTHER SERIOUS ATTACK THEN THATS WHERE THEY NEED TO BE!-Your MCCain attacks are Drivel compared to all the Convicted Terrorists Obama is Friends with..he bought his home off a 1.5 Million "Donation" from a man currently rotting in jail for the 9/11 attacks, hundreds of thousands in donations from Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, much more corrupt. If you looked into Obama more you might know all this already..keep digging!

  99. 399

Re: PalinsGirl – Aw, come now - he really did not make faces. And McCain audibly laughed at things Obama was saying. That isn't disrespectful? He at least had the good grace to look at McCain while he was speaking. And BOTH of them talked over the other.

  100. 400

Re: elmo22292 – Oh, no you di-int… Everyone on the planet acknowledges that the 'Coallition of the Willing' went into Iraq on a load of hooey. Please tell me you are not still flogging THAT dead horse…

Notice that every other country is getting the hell outta there, trying to minimise the time we spend violating the Geneva Convention…
