Paul Newman has died.
The legendary actor and philanthropist died on Friday at the age of 83.
He lost a long, public battle with cancer, according to his representatives.
Mr. Newman generously gave hundreds of millions towards helping others during his lifetime. The Vice-Chairman of the thespian's charity, Newman's Own Foundation, issued the following statement to honor and celebrate one of Hollywood's greatest:
Paul Newman's craft was acting. His passion was racing. His love was his family and friends. And his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place for all. Paul had an abiding belief in the role that luck plays in one's life, and its randomness. He was quick to acknowledge the good fortune he had in his own life, beginning with being born in America, and was acutely aware of how unlucky so many others were. True to his character, he quietly devoted himself to helping offset this imbalance. An exceptional example is the legacy of Newman's Own. What started as something of a joke in the basement of his home, turned into a highly-respected, multi-million dollar a year food company. And true to form, he shared this good fortune by donating all the profits and royalties he earned to thousands of charities around the world, a total which now exceeds $250 million. While his philanthropic interests and donations were wide-ranging, he was especially committed to the thousands of children with life-threatening conditions served by the Hole in the Wall Camps, which he helped start over 20 years ago. He saw the Camps as places where kids could escape the fear, pain and isolation of their conditions, kick back, and raise a little hell. Today, there are 11 Camps around the world, with additional programs in Africa and Vietnam. Through the Camps, well over 135,000 children have had the chance to experience what childhood was meant to be.
In Paul's words: "I wanted to acknowledge luck; the chance and benevolence of it in my life, and the brutality of it in the lives of others, who might not be allowed the good fortune of a lifetime to correct it."
Paul took advantage of what life offered him, and while personally reluctant to acknowledge that he was doing anything special, he forever changed the lives of many with his generosity, humor, and humanness. His legacy lives on in the charities he supported and the Hole in the Wall Camps, for which he cared so much.
We will miss our friend Paul Newman, but are lucky ourselves to have known such a remarkable person."
Paul Newman leaves behind five children and his wife of over fifty years, Joanne Woodward.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Newman family.

A true Icon in Hollywood, from a time when it mattered. A man who didnt just spoke about what needed to be done, he actually made a difference.
Perez, change the picture, he deserves to be remembered in his prime…vibrant, with those fierce blue eyes blazing.
Re: luvtoread – You are so right about Mr. Newman!
sadness. RIP.
To those requesting that his photo be changed…I have to disagree with you. When I look at this current photo of Mr. Newman, which Perez has posted, I see a lovely, compassionate, talented, respectful human being….and, changing it to one of his 'publicity shots', from his younger days, will never change my views.
:(
Oh my gosh. Even though I was expecting it from the steadily gaunt pictures I've seen over the past several months it was still a shock to read about Paul's death. I'm sure he's at peace now and not in pain anymore from his health problems. Blessings to Joanne and the family as they navigate these difficult waters without Paul.
he was a beautiful human being.may he rest in peace….
He will be missed. RIP
RIP !
So sad!
My condolences to Joanne and Family. Mr Newman will be sadly missed by the whole world
God bless to Paul and his family - especially Joanne.
A beautiful, talented man - they don't make them like that anymore, sadly.
Paul Newman was raised in my town. he graduated from my high school.
poor paul.
So sad that he is gone, but what a beautiful life he had.
Re: brainy_blonde – sorry, i don't agree. i agree, that he was very good looking, but in fact i loved the films in which he was at least middle aged.
(i agree)
the pic is not beatutiful in a common way, but i think it shows more respect for WHO he was, not how he looked when he was young. the pages which fished an old pic just knew that he was a hot actor and mostly telling so, but he was more than that.
Re: Anonymous –
hehe, maybe i should've read page two before i wrote this
R.I.P Paul. You truely were an amazing person.
Shame on you for posting such an unflattering picture of this incredibly wonderful and beautiful human being.
Mr.Newman was an amazing actor and a kind hearted soul! my mum was in shock when i told her just now,she said all the good ones are leaving us now! and to be honest…i kinda worried about who we are going to look at in 30 years time as an honest to goodness GREAT ACTOR? nowadays it all CGI and pretty people! there are SOME actors out there that are GREAT! but not like there used to be! back when acting WAS ACTING and not what they consider acting today! R.I.P Paul! The BLUE EYED RACE CAR DRIVER WITH A HEART OF GOLD!
Awww thats sad, may I say they were a sexy beast couple, he was gorgeous when he was younger
A class act all the way.RIP Paul Newman, one of the greats.
A truly good man died today.
At least you could post a picture of him when he was a hottie –that would really be honoring his memory–
Such sad news. He was a fine actor, a philanthropist, and one of the most handsome men to grace the silver screen. If you have any doubts, watch him in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and you'll see that he and Elizabeth Taylor make of the most beautiful screen couples EVER! My thoughts are with his wife and family. Rest in peace, Mr. Newman.
GREAT ACTOR, NOT MANY LEFT!
I once sucked off Paul Newman at a party Aaron had for him at the mansion. He had a little dick and wasn't able to cum until I should him my tits.
RIP Mr. Newman- you were an amazing talent and human. You will be missed.
I think a good way to honor this giant of the industry (and of the world) is to shut down this cheesy gossip rag for 24 hours. If you combined the "contributions," past, present, and future, of 99% of the people mentioned in this website, they wouldn't even come close to the contributions this one man made.
He had a good innings as we say in Australia, but the world has lost a true gentleman, a wonderful philanthropist, a husband and a dad. RIP Paul Newman and my heartfelt condolonces to the Newman family.
First of all my thoughts and prayers are with the Newman family.I wish more celebrities of today should follow the leading example of Mr Newman and his family. With the philanthropic interests and donations that they have done over the years.Thank you for that and RIP Paul Leonard Newman.
R.I.P. a true and the last movie star…
So so sad….he was lovely….well, a hotty actually! RIP
R.I.P Paul Newman…
I remember that he was Ivan Ooze on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie…what a great movie…I love PR.
my bad…he wasn't in PR…that was Paul Freeman…
"Paul Newman had more class and grace in his pinky finger than most people in Hollywood today." LOVE it!
RIP Paul. Take note Hollywood fame whores of today, this man had class, integrity studied his craft. No diva tantrums, out of control ego and famewhoring. His like are few now and we are left with the Lohans, Paris Hiltons etc. Gorgeous , gorgeous man.
Fuck that liberal freak. The only good thing he ever did with his life was make Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Harvard grad my A**…if you were you'd know that is NOT the only good thing Mr Newman did. He gave away food and did all sorts of philanthropic things to help the needy. He was a perfect" husband in those over 50 years of marriage - he adored Joanne - and was a great father. Butch Cassidy was a blip on his GREAT radar.
AND PEREZ I THINK YOU OUGHT TO REMOVE THAT SICK LYING POST #124. ITS NOT FUNNY IN THE BEST OF TIMES, BUT TODAY?
Ive grown up watching all the golden days of Hollywood actors because my mother loved it so much. Paul Newman WAS hot, yes, beautiful pale blue eyes but did you know he got tired of hearing that? He even said once something like, "I fear being remembered as a failure because my eyes turned brown." (something like that) But it was true. He was beautiful but in many ways as everyone here has said today - what he gave freely to help others, a TERRIFIC husband and father especially in Hollywood, to be as good looking as he was (meaning women after him all the time from all walks) and stay faithful and "adore" his wife for over 50 years? THAT is a true badge in my opinion. I love Joanne also - Ive enjoyed MANY of her films. Im wanting to watch "Long Hot Summer" now, or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof…oh they were all good. Butch and Sundance was excellent…he surely had a FULL life and well rounded. SAD about his sun though. PAUL YOU WILL BE MISSED. Hollyweird is NOTHING like it was in your day. I MISS THOSE DAYS…those movies. We have SOME greats in the action movie line-but there's only ONE Paul Newman and will never be duplicated ever.
JOANNE - my heart goes out to you for this huge loss, but I know you will see him again. AND my condolences to the "kids" also.
RIP Paul…we'll miss you terribly. Im so very sad and feel for Joanne..I WISH I could give her a hug. (((((((Joanne))))))that's the best I can do.
Sorry - of course when I said in prev post, it was sad about his SON I typoed sun…
As for the picture? It might have been nice to post BOTH…because after we die? We eventually get a perfect body that looks like we did at our best - before life, illness, gravity - changed our body/looks. BUT for an EIGHTY THREE YEAR OLD MAN, suffering with cancer…that picture is a PERFECT testament to what strength and character he had, and that he could still look nice against both those odds.
PEREZ - PLEASE ADD a picture from his young, healthy years. (Dont take this one down, just add a great one from his heyday, please?) Even local ppl in my city do that. A pic of now and then. It a great tribute to him now AND then.
God bless him and his family! His marriage to Joanne Woodward was such a shining example in Hollywood, where so many folks consider a 3 - year marriage a success! He and Joanne were wed FIFTY! They realy did it: "Til Death Do You Part" - i just want to applaud that!
Paul Newman was one of the last of the greats from the best time ever in Hollywood! They didn't call it the Golden Age for nothing.
Everyone, do yourselves a favor and go rent some of his flicks. He was a great actor (and very handsome!). Also a great philanthopist - $250 million to charity! What a gent. I'll be keeping his family in my prayers. One if the greats is gone.
Re: truthTELLER28 –
"about time"? I hope you meant that in some sort of twisted kind way - like "now he is not suffering anymore". Otherwise, that is uncalled for and foul.
This is very sad news. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
A great, if not the greatest, actor sadly left us. Forever in our hearts, his movies will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace Mr. Newman.
its very rare when you fine someone that is not only beautiful on the outside but beautiful on the inside as well. its such a shame that the entertainment world and humanity has lost such a great man. he obviously lived a great life and will never be forgetten. may he rest in peace. my heart goes out to his wife Joanne and his children. Paul you will be missed.
Hollywood yet lost another talent.
