Bush Does Not Have The Support Of His Own Party - Neither Does McCain!

Filed under: Politik > John McCain > Business Blitz

wenn5192581.jpg

More than two-thirds of Republicans voted AGAINST the Bush-backed Wall St. bailout package on Monday, effectively killing it.

What does that say about the President???

And what does this say about John McCain???

McCain was for the bailout and took it very seriously - even suspending campaigning last week to work on the package.

Interesting times we are in!

You should of said that Pelosi's crazies voted against her. She has not shown any leadership and continues to point her pointed finger at others instead of taking her due & trying to get her house working for the people who elected those crazies.

  2. 102

Re: Ron – Jesus. One more time:
    Roll Call from the Senate:

-Democrats SUPPORTED the bailout by 140 -95 (about 60%)
    -
    Republicans SUPPORED the bailout 65 - 133 (about 33%)
    -
There are currently 435 in the House - of that 433 voted.
    -
Thus, accurately stating - it did not pass due to the Republican "nay" vote. (I can't make it any simpler than this)

Re: e-rock – I would have rather that. I wish I could stop time and tell people in the past what would have happened if Bush become President. But since this is sci-fi I have a better idea and I am going to vote Obama :)

  4. 104

So lame…Obama and McCain both supported it! Perhaps you forgot to mention that Perez??? Well, it was just conveniently left out huh???

this is yet another massive failure for John McCain, demonstrating once again his instability and inadequacy. McCain was unable, even in the face of pending economic disaster, to rally his party. With this failure, McCain has gone from primary hero to Pee Wee Herman. Unworthy of trust, and unable to cash the checks his ego writes, John McCain is the one to blame more than anyone for today's 777 point loss on the Dow.

From ideology to ignominy, John McCain owns this disaster.

    Re: KitKat1 – I wouldn't say MSNBC is Obama Headquarters - they're pretty even-handed.

What sources do you consider credible/viable? I honestly try to read on same topic from variety of news sources in hopes of getting the full picture.

  9. 109

wow perez… or whomever you have doing your blogging now… I usually think you report politics fairly accurately, even though I rarely agree with you .

But on this one, you just show that you (like many of our young America) are just watching msnbc and listening to the idiot newscasters without coming up with your own ideas and REALLY listening to what the hell they are saying. FOR THE SAKE OF OUR FUTURES EVERYONE NEEDS TO Clean out your ears, get over this whole idea of change and sit down and take a good long look at what everyone is saying and the implications of what they are proposing.

No, the bailout was an awful idea that was constructed by a democratic-led congress who would tax the shit out of everyone until they do-away with the higher class altogether. Bush, in desperation as well as knowing that the democratic led congress would prevail, said he would back the bailout. Thank GOD at least some of our representatives were paying attention.

THE BAILOUT WAS MADE UP BY THE MAJORITY IN CONGRESS…DEMOCRATS. BUSH HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO SAY THAT IF IT GOT THRU THE HOUSE HE WOULD BACK IT. MCCAIN DID NOT WANT IT, HENCE HE WAS PLANNING TO SUSPEND THE DEBATE UNTIL OBAMA CRIED ABOUT IT.

Please pay attention people! This is a serious time.

Re: Arroz con Habichuelas – Oh no, leave Perez alone. Perez is on the damn right track, being Cuban-America and voting democrat (I love you Perez!!) not like you defending the republican messes afraid of a government that is far away from what your ancestors lived in Cuba. I know many cubans, many, struggling right now with foreclosure, without job, etc and they still voting republican this year. Just a disease for the Florida vote. You people need to wake the fuck up and realize that #1 You are latin #2 Republicans tend not to be friend of immigrants and let you live in Miami cause you all gather there and don't spread around the country #3 This country needs to heal and needs a CHANGE. Show some respect to this country this year and vote Obama!

If the markets fail they fail. Government caused this problem, they can't be trusted to fix it. Every one that is up for re-election this November needs to be voted out of office, no matter which party they belong to. Vote (L) across the board, Bob Barr will save us all.

The bailout bill would have passed if not for Pelosi's remarks. Nice leadership, partisan bitch.

  21. 121

Last I checked Dems were the Majority party in both chambers of Congress. Being the majority means that if you want something to pass - it passes. uhh, it means that mccain is bi-partisan and a reformer. he does stuff all the time that the rep. party disagree with.

  47. 147

Get your shit straight you biased piece of shit. What part of BIpartisenship don't you understand? Does that word not fit in that huge head of yours? Republicans rejected at almost 60% while democrats rejected it at just over 40%. It doesn't look like either side wants to pass this. Which means that not only does Bush & McCain not have support on this issue, neither does Obama. Stop trying to make "Jimmy Carter Jr." look so good. All he is is a smooth talker, thats it. No matter who wins, nothing will change. We will still have a dumb ass for a president who has been, will be, and is baught. Get you heads out of your asses people! Y'all are brainwashed!!

  48. 148

Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
    2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
    3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
    4) the DOW JONES hit a record high–14,000 +
    5) American's were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!…
But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in '06 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes–we got 'CHANGE' all right. In the PAST YEAR:
    1) Consumer confidence has plummeted ;
    2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!;
    3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase);
    4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION
    DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
    5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
    6) THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR
STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!
YES, IN '06 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE…AND WE SURE GOT IT! …
REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS. AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. NOW OBAMA CLAIMS HE IS GOING TO REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!!
JUST HOW MUCH MORE 'CHANGE' DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND?

  49. 149

I have yet to find one decent, readable version of exactly WHAT was in the bill that made it not pass.
    -
I understand last weeks initially offering by the Bush clan - it was a totally hand-over of cash with zero responsibility — the exact wording:
    -
"Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency."
    -
Okay, bom, get it - that version should never have passed — but what PRECISELY was the issue this time?

  50. 150

Fuuny however most of the Democrats thought it was a great idea though.

    Democrats 140 Yay 95 Nay.
    Republicans 65 Yay 133 Nay.

So I guess most libs sided with Bush on this which is VERY telling.

Its all in the Party name to see who is down with the pricey bailout and who isn't.
    Generous in amount; ample=Liberal
    Tending to conserve; preservative=Conservative.
Liberals generously don't mind spending YOUR money.

  51. 151

Re: SoupNazi – Hope this clears things up for you:
    FACT:
    -
    R. Regan: $200 Billion DEFECIT — Fiscal Conservative
    -
    G. Bush: $300 Billion DEFICIT — Fiscal Conservative
    -
Clinton: $200+ Billion SURPLUS — Tax Spending Liberal
    -
DubyA: $482 Billion DEFICIT — Fiscal Conservative
    -
    -
Thus, the ONLY surplus was with that wild spending Liberal, Clinton

  52. 152

It does not mean the republican are not supporting mccain- it means they are representing the people in their home states who have made it VERY clear to vote against this measure. REMEMBER the goverment is by the people and FOR the people NOT for big business. If these idiots in charge of walstreet can't figure out they are losing money when they are losing MILLIONS they why should I use spend my hard earned tax dollars to bell them out when they spend almost a TRILLION dollars more then they are making?! GET AN ACCOUNTANT!!!!!

  54. 154

America needs to move into the 21st century, and lose that "old boys network". The "old politicians" were trained to enjoy their power, but that requires a certain amount of secrecy that is not an option in the modern-day technology with instant communication and information retrieval.

    -
    G. Bush: $300 Billion DEFICIT — Democrat majority in Congress
    -
Clinton: $200+ Billion SURPLUS — Republican majority in Congress
    -
DubyA: $482 Billion DEFICIT — Current Democrat majority in Congress
    -
    -
Thus, the ONLY SURPLUS was with the president who had a REPUBLICAN CONGRESS.

    Re: JERMAINE
You do realize that 40% of the democrats voted this down don't you? Much like Pelosi you can blame the Bush administration, although this very administration tried to pass legislation to put stronger restrictions and oversight on Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in 2003, which could have prevented this. The Dems killed it including Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. McCain brought the need for stricter regulations back to congress in '05, again it was killed by the Dems. Reps have seen this coming the Dems have let it slide and here we are in a crisis. Where's Obama been? He never took a hard stance on the bill, he said he would "probably" vote for it. If he would have had some conviction he could have gone to Washington to convince those 95 Dems that voted against it to vote for it. Obama was a bit too busy campaigning though. Many Reps voted it dead because they listened to their voters, 90% of Americans are against the bailout. Before you blindly blame Reps and Bush, do some research.

  57. 157

Re: LULU~* – What was your point. Unlike most, I am smart enough to know 99% of all spending goes through congress and those deficits were when we had a LIBERAL Congressional Majority. However when we had a huge surplus under Clinton, it was Republican.

  59. 159

Re: Smirks – I agree with you. It is congress. They approved the war and yes, it was the republicans that did. However, things have gotten a shitload worse since we have had a Democratic majority in the house. Change in the Senate didn't work any better than it will in the White House. It's alllllll about the senate.

  60. 160

Perez, you are such a TOOL!!! THe reason McCain suspended his campaign last week to work on the bailout package is because McCain himself said it was going to fail as presented by Bush.

You are the fool. This was not a "Democrat Plan". It was George Bush that proposed the original Bill for a bail-out, and it was the Republican Supporters who caused the vote to fail [132 Republicans voted against it, and only 66 voted to support it]. It was also the Republican Administration that caused the crisis in the first place, because of their de-regulations on the financial industry, and also bankrupting America with a redundant war in Iraq. This is just bullshit manoeuvering in order to trick American taxpayers into paying an additional $5,000.00 each "per voter" for that war, by creating a diversion of the flow of money.

Lets all get REAL - In 1999 the Clinton administration forced legislation that called for the deregulation of Freddie and Fannie and made it so that banks had to carry a certain amount of subprime mortgages. He LOWERED standards that were put in place to protect the banks - deeming it "unamerican" that not everyone owned homes.
The NY TIMES in 1999 even stated that with this deregulation that if the US ever hit a recession that this policy would be catastrophic and would need nothing short of a government bailout. Believe all the BS HYPE and vote for Barack H Obama! WAKE UP!!

Re: SquirrelLives – Yes, but lets be factual here, the Democrats haven't had control of the house for the entire 8 years that Bush has been in office, when all this BS started. AND you are right in your comment that BOTH Republicans and Democrats who voted against this bailout did so to protect their OWN asses. They are either up for re-election or
don't want to be considered responible for this mess, because the American voters are so upset about it. Let's be honest here, it's BOTH the Republicans and Democrats that caused this Bailout to fail. And it it weren't for Bush's failures for the last 8 years, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

You are just racist, and foolish, because you don't even seem to be informed of the fact that George Bush was arrested for cocaine possession in 1972. Barack Obama, as well as 1 in 4 Americans, admit to using cocaine in their youth, but George Bush felt the need to be dishonest and corrupt about it. After he was arrested, his daddy got him "special entry" into a program that was intended to give young people an opportunity to escape the reckless crimes of their youth, by exsponging their criminal records after completion of community service. George Bush was a 26-year-old adult at the time, he was not a "youth" offender, so he should not have been allowed into that program. The trade off was that he had to spend one year of community service at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Houston, Texas, which erased his "adult" criminal record.
    :l
Stupid people should shut the fukup. And stupid Americans should clue in to the fact that the Republican Party has a history of doing whatever they please to get whatever they want, and they are their own "community of privilege".

Repubs want the bill to pass without having to vote for it. They are getting a whole lot of heat from their constituents, some ignorant, some truly committed to non-government intervention in a free market. And frankly, dems are hearing the same from their constituents. No one in the country believes Bush anymore, so he may as well stay hidden. McCain is totally tanking on this. The evangelical base that is anti-abortion and anti-gay is also dead set against a bailout. Most of them don't have good jobs, pensions, health insurance or much of a future so why should anyone else. Tough time for leadership.

  92. 192

Re: SomePeoplesKids – This would imply that people can't vote their own minds. Those of you who are suggesting that Pelosi is responsible for this are out of your minds and jumping on the 'blame it on the Democrats, so McCain doesn't look like a failure" bandwagon. Nice try,
    I don't think America is buying it…

  93. 193

2/3 of democrats voted for it and 2/3 of republicans against. And yet…. its the democrats fault the bill didnt pass? That one take some very large cojones.

  94. 194

More republicans voted against this bill than Democrats.
They do not hold a large enough majority in the House and Senate to override a veto and get a bill to the floor to be voted upon. The republicans have fillibusterd a record 77 times since the Democrats "took over." So again, what are you talking about?
The republican party and Bush are responsible for this mess. They should be men and take responsiblity instead of "Bwahhhh Pelosi hurt my feelings…..bwahhhhhhh." Sounds like a toddler having a tantrum and at the American taxpayer's expense.

  95. 195

stupid perez. Everybody but you know that dems and reps were on the same page with the bail out last week. so what…they put their heads together and droped it like a hot potatoe. Thats why we have a free country. the people spoke and the house listen. Now the dems want to take all the credit for this. Now the reps will get the votes from all the people who will be hurt by this decision. see how the game is played?

Hey dumbass, the Democrats hold the majority. They can pass whatever they want, regardless of how Republicans vote. So don't give me any crap about Republicans "effectively killing" squat. You're talking out your ass bc your mouth don't know better.

OMG, Perezzers, how could you even put this up??? it is SOOOO far from the truth~the REPUBLICANS are the ones who are holding it up, John McCain included, because there are too many hidden clauses that would let Wall Street off the hook & have us taxpayers foot the bill!!! The DEMOCRATS are the ones who want to push it through~do some research next time, because this is ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!!! I hate George Bush, but his administration tried to warn us for many many many years about the fall of Fannie & Freddie~look it up, the quotes are there~and everybody's BEST FRIEND, BARNEY FRANK, just shushed them all and said how they were trying to create a "panic" and that Freddie & Fannie were "just fine"~that quote was 2 years ago!!!! please please please do some research next time, printing things like this that are absolutely untrue are DANGEROUS, and put you in the same boat as the rest of the super left media that refuses to report the truth…
