R.I.P.

Choi Jin-sil, a South Korean actress fondly nicknamed "The Nation's Actress," was found dead Thursday of an apparent suicide. She was 40 years old.

Sad.

The actress, who made her debut in 1980 as a pretty young ingenue, had been plagued with depression since her wildly publicized divorce from baseball star Cho Sung-min. She often worried about the upbringing of their two children. Additionally, she couldn't escape harsh internet rumors regarding her financial situation.

A month ago, Choi was scandalized when actor Ahn Jae-hwan, to whom she had lent money, was found dead in his car of a suicide as well. Though Choi was never charged in the case, rumors flared, exacerbating her depression.

She hanged herself in her bathroom, after returning home drunk, according to reports.

No suicide note has been found, although the day before her death, she texted her makeup assistant with such ominous messages as "take care of (my) children no matter what happens." An autopsy is scheduled for later today and an investigation is in motion.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Choi's family and friends.

Suicide is never the answer. I know it sounds corny but fuck…I wish they would call a help line. Shit, I would've given her my number…took her out, gotten her drunk..smoked a little bud…showed her things are never as bad the next day and that she's not alone. So sad…depression has claimed so many lives. I pray for her children.

Where the hell were her "friends"?!

I truely loved watching her on tv. She was amazing as an actress. I have been into Korea dramas for over a year. Korea is a place I want to go see. It is such a shame that life brings us such things to deal with in life that it comes down to a permant solution to a temporay problem. She will be greatly missed. I wish she could have used the "I don't care what others say" attitude because that would have saved her from herself. People around the world don't relize suicide has always been a way to end tragic things in Korea. It is what some consider an "honorable" thing to do to save face for the family. I pray God forgave her for this and she has found the piece she longed for.

For all of you hating on her, she was freaking depressed from her divorce, her husband was having affair. The police are thinking that this might not be a suicide.

Re: dongbanglove – The police already concluded that it was a suicide and no foul play was involved.

Hanged vs. hung: Perez is right. Originally these words were pretty much interchangeable, but “hanged” eventually came to be used pretty exclusively to mean “executed by hanging.” “Hung” is correct EXCEPT when capital punishment is being imposed or someone commits suicide.

Re: andreinac13 – ok, you insensitive, idiotic person. nobody should ever have to kill himself/herself. you're no different from the people who caused choi jin shil to kill herself, and ultimately cause this trend of celeb suicides.

actually, her husband cheated on her.. that was why she was in depression, and right after she divorced him he got married and had children with the girl he cheated on her with.

You know what else? Her husband actually beat her up to a pulp when she confronted him about the adultery. She was at the hospital with tons of bruises on her face and swarms of paparazzi covering this story and admitting that it was her husband. And you know what happened to her husband? NOTHING. Korea is in dire need of social reform. For one thing, they resort to ALCOHOL for every reason (she committed suicide after getting drunk!). Social pressures are tremendous, and especially on the internet people get VERY malicious. And beating up your wife is okay! WTF!

She was VERY depressed. When Ahn jae hwan killed him self people pointed at choi jin shil for leding him money as a LOAN SHARK. And when he couldnt pay back she "threatened" him. which was TOTALLY un true. She is best friends with his wife Jung sunny. And when she tried to visit jung sunny people would again spread rumors that choi jin shil is only visiting to try to get her money back while jung sunny was in the hospital and taking therapy from shock. Everyone pointed fingers at her for NO reason.
Then people started to talk about her children. She maybe thought if she wasnt in the picture anymore then less people would HARASS her young children. But people are cruel and even after her tragic death, people continue to make rumors.
After choi jin shils death her two friends are now on the verge of suicide. While the morg was taking Choi Jin Shil's body out of her house her young 6year old boy was screaming "Please save my mommy"
but sadly it was too late. RIP CHOI JIN SHIL.
