What Gang Rape???

Comedienne Sandra Bernhard is denying reports that she verbally attacked Republican VP Nominee Sarah Palin.
Bernhard is denying that she said Palin would be "gang-raped by my big black brothers" if she enters Manhattan.
Ouch.
This supposedly happened during her opening monologue during a show last month in Washington, DC.
But Bernhard told the Daily News on Thursday, "I never said 'gang-raped' and I never used 'rape.'"
The "funny" woman is speaking out after an announcement was made that she was dropped as the keynote speaker for a benefit in mid-October at Rosie's Place, a women's shelter in Boston.
But when first contacted by the Daily News in mid-September to confirm the remarks, Bernhard never denied it.
In an email at the time, she said "That comment is part of a much larger, nuanced, and yes, provocative (that's what I do) piece from my show about racism, freedom, women's rights, and the extreme views of Governor Sarah Palin."
Inneresting.
As for Bernhard, she said she had waited to set the record straight because "as a performer, I'm not in the business of explaining myself to ill-informed critics. However, once this caused collateral damage to an innocent charity which does great work, I needed to correct things for the record."
And although Bernhard said she couldn't recall her exact words, since she said it's very improvised, she did say she "addressed the issue [that] if Sarah Palin had, God forbid, been violated, would she be willing to care for the baby?"
As for the cancellation, Bernhard claims she has no hard feelings and plans to make a donation to the shelter "immediately."
She added, "I understand the predicament they're in."

As a woman that outrages me. Rape isn't a JOKE, nor should anyone find it comedic. If that's the only way the moron can get attention, clearly she should give up. Not only are her acts offensive, so is her face and pathetic attempts to explain herself. Maybe if her mom, her sister, her, or if by some miracle she could find someone to sleep with her and she ended up having a daughter…. what if they were gang raped? Not so funny you ugly cunt.
Sorry Paulie, I have to agree with Timmy. I saw her show in Wash DC on 9/27 and that's exactly what she said. In fact, the audience inhaled deeply and went silent when the statement was made, and Sandra tried to laugh it off. She could have definitely made the point a different way …
I've seen the last four of Sandra's shows, and this one was definitely mediocre — it seems her edge is gone. And I wouldn't say this "joke" was edgy or provacative, it was just plain rude. Tina Fey is an excellent example of showing how ridiculous Ms. Palin is, just by repeating her statements.
I'm gay and a Democrat. People should decide on who to vote for based on statements made from the actual Democrats or Republicans running — not statements based on the entertainment value of actors or comedians.

To all of you defending her behavior with "freedom of speech!!!" I might point out that noone is suggesting Sandra be stoned, imprisoned or censured. We are simply responding to her offensive language with OUR freedom of speech to point out how low-class, trashy and rude this woman really is. I love it when pseudo-celebrities have diarrhea of the mouth and insult half of the population then bitch and whine about the consequences. Freedom of speech DOES NOT include commercial or financial protection from the public's reaction to your dumbass remarks!!!

Sandra has issues. She HATES Palin and has said some awful things about her. I saw a clip of her making comments about Palin that were beyond hateful. I have no doubt she would say something like that and mean it based on the other things I heard her say.

I think I'm most offended by the fact that some people think that supporting a certain candidate means spewing hatred at the other. I'm an Obama supporter, but I have tremendous respect for McCain and Palin. This election is not about hate, it's about choosing what you think is best for the country you live in and unfortunately there are those out there who are allowed to have microphones that are fucking the whole thing up.

People who talk like that are not capable of engaging in civilized debate about the issues, so they resort to repulsive and repugnant name calling to express the disagreement they cannot articulate in intelligent dialogue. She has the right to say whatever she wants just as we have the right to criticize her and not buy tickets to her shows.
I think if she was going to say something she shouldn't have backed down after it came back to bite her in the ass. Same situation as the girl from the Dixie Chicks, she should have stood by what she said instead of backtracking from it when she was called out on it. If you can't control what you say, maybe entertainment isn't the business you should be in.
