McCain's Mea Culpa On Letterman

Filed under: TV News > Politik > David Letterman > John McCain

davejohn__opt1.jpg

As we mentioned earlier, John McCain snubbed David Letterman by canceling last minute on his scheduled appearance on The Late Show.

Instead, he decided to speak with Katie Couric for the CBS evening news. And Letterman didn't take that too well.

So, McCain promised to appear Thursday night on the funny man's show.

And the politician finally kept his word.

At the taping in the afternoon, the show started with Letterman asking playfully, "Can you stay?"

As a result of receiving all that negative press, McCain told Letterman, "I screwed up" in regards to canceling his previous appearance.

Letterman also commented that he felt he was the "ugly date" since McCain stood him up the on September 24th appearance when he was going to talk about how to deal with the economy.

Instead, Letterman was forced to bring on McCain critic Keith Olbermann of MSNBC to fill in for McCain that night.

But, on Thursday, McCain made it a priority to appear on the show. He even flew by helicopter to New York from Philadelphia after a weather delay grounded his campaign plane.

Good thing he made it. If not, you know Letterman would have ripped him a new one!

Re: Smirks – I will admit, we must learn from out past. all im saying is, bring up past incidents to try and incriminate someone when it has nothing to do w/ anything, is a tactic for the weak. I think Obama has learned a lot from the past, and is NOT TIED TO TERRORIST ACTIVITIES. i can see how my comments could be mistaken as ignorant. I am a strong believer in leaning from the past, especially in policy. All im saying is this bickering about peoples past is pissing me off.

Re: obsess_much – Yeah, I hear you. Both campaigns made their points and it's time to let it go.

  3. 103

i guess i have a bad attitude. whatever. Liddy betrayed us just as ayres did. its pointless to talk to any of you stubborn bastards on these boards. the majority seem to be republican anyways. in my eyes, that is synonymous w/ ignorant. you'll be happy to know, im ending any political conversation on this page and letting nov. 5th ride out to decide who gets bragging rights(yea, yea, i know, good riddance and all that). it was fun while it lasted i guess, but there is no reasoning w/ biggots. if McCain does win, we have yet another BUSH on our hands that only cares about the upper class. and from what i can tell are the only people who want to elect McCain.

Re: Smirks – Omg I know McCain Killed at the function he was super super funny and witty… he was great.. Obama was ok.. I laughed really hard when he made fun of McCain's age :) hahaah… About liddy and ayres… I know they're not in the same range… and there's no comparison but it is about the transparency of the issue…I guess the public sees both relationships as shady and McCain went ahead and said.. yeah so what I know him, he's a friend…Obama obviously can't and will not do that because that will be the end of him and his campaign….but I get your point smirks :) have a nice day kid

  7. 107

Re: obsess_much – You are soooooooooooo wrong about upper class America being the only ones that care about getting McCain to office… that is ludacris to say…Vote for Obama and you will see more companies going down south and firing people… We are scaring away the big evil companies that bring work and opportunities to our country… Very smart… Vote for Obama if you want to continue watching people loose their jobs and houses!!! MORE TAXES=LESS $$$ FOR EMPLOYERS TO EMPLOY
LESS TAXES= MORE $$$$ FOR EMPLOYERS TO EMPLOY….

Maybe David Letterman will stop crying like a baby.
McCain had to come back to him and apologize.
I don't know why? Letterman ain't the ruler of the world.
He needs to retire like Leno, gapped-tooth mutherfucka.

  15. 115

Letterman is obviously for Obama and using this as an excuse to rip on McCain. Whether or not Letterman knows lots about politics (which I think he does), he has influence over millins of viewers. I don't mind b/c I'm all for Obama, but almost starting to feel bad for McCain. He's looking like a loser in every way.

  16. 116

Just watch all the conservative hate everywhere eviscerate McCain if he loses.

  17. 117

    Re: liz222
All the rich numbers will selfishly vote Republican for this very reason. They do not want to pay more taxes. They basically do not give a damn about anyone but themselves. Now if the shoe was on the other foot……
We came to live in this country 20 years ago and are very proud to pay taxes and se them working in the lovely area that we live in and everywhere else around this country. How the hell do you think things would get done if we didn't pay taxes?
    GO OBAMA!

  18. 118

Letterman put McCain on the ropes and held him there - best interview yet of McCain.

Dave asked MCCAIN about his TIES WITH GORDON LIDDY - -
Dave: (paraphrase) Well, John, YOU DO ties to Gordon Liddy. And John, why is your running mate claiming Obama is "paling around with terrorists? Couldn't the same case be made for you? Worse?
    -
It was great. McCain was stunned when Letterman brought up the Liddy connection.
    -
    Far worse?
    -
"William TIMMONS — John McCain's choice to head his Presidential Transition Team, is a former lobbyist — who lobbied on behalf of Iraqi dictator SADDAM HUSSEIN to ease U.S. and international sanctions against HUSSEIN regime."
    -
"The two lobbyists who TIMMONS worked closely with over a five year period pleaded guilty and were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of SADDAM HUSSEIN'S government."
    -
"During the same period beginning in 1992, TIMMONS worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. TIMMONS, Vincent, and Park STOOD TO SHARD AT LEAST $45 MILLION if the business deal went through."
    -
Boo-ya Republicans. "Ayers" - what a fucking joke that "slam" has been in comparison to McCain's connection

  19. 119

Re: leopard – The "rich" ALREADY pay the lion's share of taxes. 40% of American families DON'T pay ANY income tax. There is only so many times you can go back to the well before it runs dry.

  20. 120

Perhaps now McCain and that airhead Palin will GIVE up their attempts to portray Obama as "palling around with terrorists" — McCain OWN TIES are so much more severe.
    -
I'm sticking with my original though - McCain suck his chances by choosing Palin. If he'd picked a more viable running mate, the race might have been closer.
    -
But, his going against his own advisors, getting ticked-off at them - and in order to "show them" picked Palin - suck his ship.
    -
Kind of like the way McCain was going to show that pilot behind him on the Forrestal by doing a wet-start (similar to intentional car back-fire) - which IS the cause for the bomb dropping off the planes and the horrible fire that KILLED 134 crewman —- John was going "to show" that other pilot "who was boss."
    -
At least this time, McCain didn't commit manslaughter — he just ruined his own campaign.

  21. 121

Re: Au_140 – How come you say that Letterman is for Obama, when:
    -
    - McCain has appeared on Letterman's show 14 times
    -
McCain ANNOUNCED HIS RUN FOR PRESIDENCY on the Letterman Show — we're you unaware of that little FACT????
    -
Dave and John were on a friendly terms for years.
    -
That's a lot of the reason Dave was irritated that McCain dumped him — Dave has been good to McCain in the past, let MCCAIN ANNOUNCE HIS RUN FOR THE PRESIDENCY on his show, etc.
    -
If John had told the truth - Letterman would not have had a single joke, but John lied, and he got caught in a lie. No big deal.
    -
Just wise-up and quit trying to say the Letterman is against McCain.

  23. 123

Smirks [100] says: Ayers is a TERRORIST. He is an American who tried to kill other Americans on American soil. And he STILL wishes he'd done more.
    ————————————————-
Fool. William Ayers' Weather Underground was a direct response by American citizens to the political corruption of the day. It is no different than what Bush and America's Army has done to the [1.5 million] innocent women, children and babies of Iraq that have died by American bombing. Bush also caused the unnecessary death of 4,000 american soldiers. Senator Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group, as he does all acts of violence, but he was an eight-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen were active. Put Ayers in jail, or shut the fuck up about him. If he is such a threat to National Security, why did the government give him a Teaching License?
    ———————————————
Why aren't you condeming John McCain for hanging out with terrorist Bush?
    ———————————————

  25. 125

Cristi says – reply to this 24Re: maryjane*420 – This is why I can't have Obama winning…My business generates around 3 million dollars a year. I have over 60 employees, after expenses I stay with around a 9% of the $3 millions .So you're telling me that I am generating employment in my community, and the government will raise my Business Income tax and then when I take out my profits…I am going to pay even higher taxes because my Personal Income tax is around $270,000… That does not seem fair to me… I am generating employment!!!! THINK… are we going to penalize those who provide for us…That is my personal problem..but it is also about the principle of penalizing the rich…Seriously?? When did being successful become evil in this country… I went to college, paid for my student loans and now because I have a successful business that helps the community I am being penalized…——————————————-
STFU WHINEY BITCH. CHOKE ON YOUR FUCKING MONEY. IF YOU WOULD RATHER HAVE A CORRUPT PRESIDENT THAT STEALS YOUR MONEY AND SHITS ALL OVER YOU, THEN THAT'S WHAT YOU DESERVE.

YW. I wish people would get themselves informed before they form their opinions. That is why there is so much rhetoric out there. In fact, federal charges against Bill Ayers were dropped by the FBI. Obama is not connected to Ayers' criminal past. They are associated by their mutual political party and civic committees in Chicago, as well that they both live in the upscale district of chicago. I'll bet these people here don't even know the major contributions that William Ayers' has made to society. In 1997, he was even named Citizen of the Year. And if they are going to condemn the Weather Underground for taking action against the Vietnam War, then you would be condemning a major chunk of that entire generation. Hey, wasn't Richard Nixon a Republican too. LOL.

I hope everyone is truly listening to what the candidates are saying each time they speak. McCain is actually a great candidate. He knows his stuff.

There is so much celeb spike for a certain candidate that is scares me to think that people are out there wanting to vote for one of the candidates just because a celeb said so. Please, please take time to listen to what they are each saying and how it will affect you, your future and our country.

Each man for themselves. Vote how you want to, but I am asking you to please listen to what they say and then make your choice.

  34. 134

The real reason for McCain's cancellation last time…..he had a serious case of the shitters from eating lentils and other beans just hours before the show was to commence. He just could not risk shitting himself on that couch.
