Katie Holmes is starting to receive feedback for her Broadway debut in the revival of All My Sons.
However, the show is getting mixed responses.
The Daily News seems to have liked her performance, stating that Katie made “a fine Broadway debut.”
They add, “Her rather grand speech pattern takes getting used to but she seems comfortable and adds a fitting glint of glamour. Dancing with (John) Lithgow, kissing Wilson, she makes you forget about her being Mrs. Tom Cruise.”
Tom Cruise, being the perfect hubby that he is, was also in the audience for his wife’s debut.
Holmes plays Ann, the daughter of a business man.
The New York Times wasn’t feeling her portrayal!
They say, “While Ann is supposed to arrive at the Keller household with high hopes and good intentions, Ms. Holmes delivers most of her lines with meaningful asperity, italicizing every word. This Ann is straight from the school of the Erinyes (those avenging furies from Greek mythology), and I didn’t believe for a second that she really loved the honorable, naive Chris.”
Ouch.
The New York Post added, “Lithgow starts in a sunny, benign fashion, but eventually finds himself screeching alongside Holmes, looking tough under a glossy wig, and the all-American Wilson.”
Poor Katie.
At least she’s trying hard.
P.S. For someone so extremely thin, her legs don’t seem to match the rest of her body!
