So, she says that the federal government is too involved in issues that should be left to the state, like Roe vs. Wade, then goes on to say that the federal government needs to step in to make gay marriage illegal in any and every way across all the states. Sounds like what she is saying is "make abortion a state law so that most can make it illegal, like she wants, and make gay marriage a federal issue so it can be illegal, like she wants". Disgusting, awful, evil, sickening woman. Which is an insult to women……..
I support her right to voice her opinion. Still a fan of hers. VOTE MCCAIN!

Re: kiana – First of all, Yes they(the government) are excluding gay and lesbian people from getting married and have done so for a long time, We have only recently been able to get married on 2 states, and now they are trying to take that away, so you are wrong Madam, we got only a piece of a pie and now religious groups are trying to take that right away and raising ALOT of money for adds. If they were so Christian they would use that money to feed the hungry. Secondly, Pre-bible era, Gay marriages were common, and gay relationships were not considered indifferent in Greece, Rome and other places until Christianity took over. There's a big difference between not supporting gay marriage and supporting a constitutional ban on gay marriage. The former, while regrettable, is a matter of personal opinion. The latter is an attempt to cram that opinion down everyone else's throats.
I wish there were a party in this election that supported gay marriage but the fact of the matter is it is still too controversial a subject and were the democrats to take that platform like they did in 2004, the Republicans would have been able to reduce the election to that single issue and it would have alienated many members of older generations and religious zealots who aren't as liberal minded as the rest of us.

I wish I could hear ONE person explain to me WHY the sanctity of "traditional"marriage is at stake if America lets gays marry.
If asked why 2 people marry, they'd probably tell you they did it for love and respect. Some may tell you it's to have children. There are many other reasons people marry, and all of them are their own choices. So why can't gays marry for those same reasons?
Marriage is a tricky thing for anyone. It's hard to stay faithful and keep respect for one another these days. There are many stresses that are put on marriages. I believe that marriage is one of the MOST important decisions one can make. And I believe in the sanctity of marriage. I believe that marriage is a beautiful experience if one is committed to hard work and loyalty. However, there are heterosexuals in this world who go into marriage with very little thought- so why are THEY allowed to marry?
"Traditional" marriage is NOT in danger if gays are allowed to marry. It simply is not.

Now, here is the thing. As much as people are guaranteed their freedom of speech we must be responsible. With freedom, comes responsibility. The fact that even Senator McCain opposes to a drastic measure like that shows that it would go against what the founding fathers intended. I dare anyone of you who claim this was founded as a "Christian Nation" to come up with undeniable proof that this is so. Though they may have alluded to it, their wording was loose enough as to not make it clear cut. Our founding fathers were visionaries. They knew that in order to give us freedom, they must not alianate those who did not share the same beliefs, while not excluding a Christian majority. Someone once brought up the pledge of alliance. This was writen in the late 1800's. The author NEVER put the words "under God" in it. Those were added in the mid 20th century. The knights of Columbus pushed and eventually got their wish.
Separation of Church and State is there for a reason, and it should be kept that way.

Those of you who keep saying that marriage is part of a religious institution. If you look at both sides of it, you would realize that the concept of marriage is not just a biblical thing . Religious institutions realized that they could bring in the "blessing of God" into it. Pagans had ceremonies, and rituals to formally unite two people. If you've taken a cultural anthropology class, you know. Historically there has been more than one instance where two people of the same gender have been married. In short. Do I believe that same - sex marriage takes the validity of what we call "traditional" marriage away? NO. I feel that in this day and age, especially in a country like this one, they should be afforded the same rights. People say that while giving them the right to marry, we also take the right of those who oppose it away. Well, no it is simply not true. Allowing these people to get married will not take away your right to practice your religion as you've always practiced it. Those of you who worry about Churches being sued are also wrong. That same separation of Church and State affords religious institutions the right to oppose it without legal repercussions. Churches have a right to oppose same-sex marriages but, have no right to impose that opposition. Especially when these people are tax paying citizens. Can anyone find a reason other than one based on religion to oppose it?
