Obama Cancels Campaign Events To Visit Sick Grandmother

Presidential candidate Barack Obama is canceling nearly all of his upcoming campaign events for this Thursday and Friday to fly to Hawaii to visit his grandmother, who has fallen seriously ill.
Madelyn Payne Dunham, who helped raise Obama and whom he cites as a major influence on his life, was released from a hospital last week, but her condition has since "deteriorated to the point where her situation is very serious."
Oh no, it sounds bad.
A spokeswoman said that instead of separate events on Thursday in Madison, Wisconsin and Des Moines, Iowa, there will be one event in Inidianopolis before Obama departs for his grandmother's bedside. His wife, Michelle, will take his place on Friday at rallies in Akron and Columbus, Ohio.
Obama will return to the campaign trail on Saturday, somewhere on the westcoast.
Out of respect for the family, the exact nature of Dunham's illness was not stated, although it is speculated that the situation is quite grave since "everyone understands the decision that Senator Obama is making."
Sadness!!!
Obama has often cited his grandmother as a great influence on his development, and mentioned her at length when he accepted the Democratic presidential nomination, saying, "She's the one who taught me about hard work. She's the one who put off buying a new car or a new dress for herself so that I could have a better life. She poured everything she had into me. And although she can no longer travel, I know that she's watching tonight, and that tonight is her night as well."
We understand his urgency too and we wish him the best as well.

Nice political trick. Maybe his white grandmother is sick, but strange he never visited her in the hospital before. all pictures of him with her are OLD. Fine grandson!!! Politically, it makes him look good, but if you took the time to investigate this relationship, you would no doubt discover he paid little if any attention to her…actually resented her according to his own book.
I hope she gets well, if she is sick, but I think he is a bum.

I do feel for Obama and the sickness of his grandmother. I would be devasted if my grandmother was gravely ill. Although I do support his decision to cancel his obligations to visit her, what i don't understand is why in the world people would make an issue of McCain's decision to postpone the debates to work on the financial struggle infected in our ENTIRE country!!! Here's another truth for you: Most black people never voted because they couldn't identify with a candidate, they didn't feel that a white man would have any effect on their life so they didn't feel the need to vote anyway. Some still don't have faith in the "system" and don't truly believe Obama can fix their problems, but they are willing to give it a try. I don't expect the majority of white folks to understand this concept because the Presidential candidates have always been white.
SO the notion that black people are only voting for him because he's black should change to the reason that some black people are only VOTING period because he is black. So they don't have to research his policies, their personal issue is only that he is someone they can relate too. (sounds like some Palin supporters).

To the posters who compare this to McCain suspending his campaign to "fix the economy". I'm not sure how to respond. You see I thought Presidents should be able to multi-task. "Fix" the country, campaign and debate all in one week. That's the President I want to vote for.

I am voting for McCain for various reasons, not just because he's caucasian ( I have a feeling you may be voting for Obama based SOLEY on his race and that is sad. Makes you more a follower and not a leader). Not many people can give me many reasons they are voting for a man who had only been in the senate 100 weeks before launching his presidential campaign. A man who has ties to a man named Ayers who was in fact was domestic terrorist and founder of a group called “Weather Underground”, a man who's minister of 20 years openly displays his hatred for America at the pulpit, a man who wants to add 800 Billion in new social programs, a man who wants to tax small business out of existence in a time when our economy is in trouble (FYI 70% of the economy is small business), a man who wants to tax corporations more so they are forced to take their business to countries such as Ireland where the taxes are only 11%.

You cannot Bring about job growth with increased taxes, basic economics. Obama has no clue about BASIC ECONOMICS. Scary as this is one of the major issues our country faces in the coming years. Obama wants to increase the Gov’t, do you realize when our country was founded Gov’t was supposed to be limited. Reagan sadi it best when he said “Man is never truly free unless Gov’t is limited”. . I think if your really voting for this man you may want to re-read the Constitution as handouts and entitlement programs were never part of it. Our founding fathers are rolling over in their grave at how far we have drifted.
My vote for McCain is because of the issues he believes in like living in a country that is safe free from terrorism, lowering taxes on business to CREATE jobs so companies can AFFORD to keep their business in America, Upholding our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS as Americans, cutting Gov’t spending, reducing pork on bills so the tax payers can save money, and allowing our God given resources to be utilized to save Americans money at the pumps and on their home gas bill. I will always trust a man who served over 5 years in a POW camp to protect our freedoms as Americans over a man with questionable ties that the liberal media won’t even look into.
Bottom line is you either believe in BIG gov’t and BIG bureaucracies and that we should have unlimited handouts and entitlement programs paid for directly out of the checks of hard working Americans (The Liberals), or that Gov’t should be limited, the power should be in the hands of the people (as it was originally intended) and that your greatness cannot be capped here in the land of the free…ie TAXES (that would be us conservatives)
I would LOVE to hear some solid reason why people are voting for Obama as I have yet to hear any that are in line with the Constitution.
