This simply isn't analogous at all. This is a moral issue versus a constitutional one. When you're looking at the civil rights movement, you're talking about the denial of education, the right to vote, housing options, employment, and redlining social services for blacks. To compare this struggle to the inability of gays to marry is insanely inappropriate and does more to hurt the "No on 8" case than help it.

  2. 102

Vote yes yes yes yes yes yes on 8. Whats next after gay marriage, polygamy I mean where will it end ………..

  3. 103

    Re: xhollax
You're the one that brought up the family card, dumbass. A black person can get defensive because their FAMILY went through segregation, but I'm dismissed because I didn't personally suffer through the Holocaust?

And Prop 8 isn't for killing gays. It's for making them settle for a "separate but equal" civil union over a marriage. This picture is of a black person having to settle for a "separate but equal" drity, warm drinking fountain or a clean, cold one. It is NOT a picture of a dead person. So no, a gas chamber wouldn't work - neither would one of a lynched black.

  4. 104

Re: StratMan172 – I feel the constitution needs to be preserved and followed without making any changes to it.

There is nothing in the constitution that says a marriage must be between a man and a woman! What supporters of Prop. 8 want to do is CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION to say that so that they can prevent those who want equal rights - those who deserve them as deemed by the CONSTITUTION - can't have them. Gosh, you are lucky you can even vote on the 4th - awhile back, you couldn't have done that either. Women had to fight to get the right to vote because they were being denied their equal rights under the constitution. Go figure, history has shown that our culture has condoned racism and discrimination on so many levels. The one thing that keeps us sane is the constitution's protections of those who may not conform to mainstream ideologies. Or mainstream races, or mainsteam sexual preferences.

By voting for Prop. 8, you and all the others are trying to legislate discrimination. It's really, really sad. Vote No to preserve the constitution!

To refute other lame arguments, gays have been persecuted throughout history. Several murders have occured here in the United States. Remember Matthew Sheppard? What about the 13 year old who was shot at his school recently because of his homosexuality?

Perez, I've been telling my children that Prop 8 is pure discrimination. Thanks

  5. 105

California laws should treat everyone equally.
Proposition 8 is a misguided and unconstitutional proposal.
Same-sex vows cause no harm to our families.
The reasons given for Proposition 8 just don't stand up to scrutiny
Californians need to move beyond the divisiveness that Prop. 8 has engendered and embrace tolerance and reconciliation. Lets not go backwards and create second class citizens again. Live and let live

    NO on PROP HATE/8

  6. 106

a photo says a thousand words.

remember when blacks weren't allowed to marry? and how stupid that was? and how terrible on so many levels?

one day, people will say the same thing about when gays weren't allowed to marry.

    vote no!

  7. 107

    Re: Kate36
    well said :)

  8. 108

I really don't understand the people who say that this comparison is offbase. It is TOTALLY comparable. xhollax: I hope YOU aren't suggesting that these atrocities also do not happen to gays and lesbians and transgenders and bisexuals. Because they do. And they happen because this country continues to discriminate against them with such laws as banning marriage. By saying they are not worthy of being married, they are inferring that it is ok to commit other crimes against them.

    VOTE FOR EQUALITY!!!!

    xoxo

  9. 109

I dont like gays…sorry and I sure as hell don't want my kids to have to learn about butt fuc*ers and vagina munchers!!!

  10. 110

"but there are just too many closeminded, uninformed people in this country. it makes me crazy. "

I hope you're right. I hope it's just that Perez and the fools replying just aren't aware of the evils that were committed against african americans (segregation, castration, lynchings etc). I hope they're not sick human beings aware of what was done to african americans and consciously comparing the two.

  11. 111

LOVE HOW YOU DELETED MY COMMENTS ABOUT YOU VOTING REPUBLICAN B/C YOU MAKE OVER $250,000…YOU FUCKEN LIAR…YOU DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT GAYS OR MINORITIES

  12. 112

While I respect your vigor and passion (and am a constant reader of your blog) for Prop 8, it seems that you, and a number of Californians, are misguided as what it really means.

Proposition 8 is by no means a bill of discrimination, it is simply on the ballot to undo the injustice of four Supreme Court judges who changed the ruling that 61% of Californians voted for. 61% is a majority of citizens, four judges is not. The bill would assign the designation of "married" to man and woman couples, while still giving gays the right to a domestic partnership - something that gives the exact same rights as those of a married couple.

In addition to redefining marriage, the bill would give parents the right to choose if they want their children hearing about the equality of domestic partnerships to traditionally married couples. You are always going on about how celebrity parents should have more responsibility when mentoring their child, why would you want real life parents to lose that choice?

  13. 113

    Re: Genghis Khan

Wow, you are a psychologist, theologist, linguist and biologist all in one! You seem to know all the answers to human development, human sexuality, and the history of the the word marriage! How did you get so smart? Are you a Scientologist?

Wait - I have a better way to describe you - CONCEITED BIGOT - and you can't redefine that. Hypothetically speaking…

  14. 114

i love when people say being gay is a choice… do you chose to be straight? no didn't think so

  15. hilly says – reply to this

    115

Anyone that thinks homosexuality is a choice should not be allowed to procreate. You are a parasite, and your parents are probably cousins.

  16. 116

Re: SKYlove8"By saying they are not worthy of being married, they are inferring that it is ok to commit other crimes against them."
Are you insane? You don't honestly believe that, do you? How can you possibly infer that a ban on gay marriage implicitly permits and even encourages hate crimes? When the pro-gay marriage lobby comes forth with statements so ludicrously overreaching, it hampers the cause and doesn't aid it. If you can't debate this rationally, then please don't debate at all.

  17. 117

"but I'm dismissed because I didn't personally suffer through the Holocaust? "

what are you talking about? I did no such thing. I asked you a question as a Jew how would you feel if Perez put up a pic of a gas chamber instead?

  18. 118

"I hope YOU aren't suggesting that these atrocities also do not happen to gays and lesbians and transgenders and bisexuals. "

Please direct me to mass lynchings of gays? Please show me what states gays are not allowed to vote in.

  19. 119

    Re: Ashley_Nicole
That's right, because I currently teach my first graders about hetero butt fu*kers and vagina munchers all the time! We don't teach no readin or writin - we just talk about SEX.

Good god, what a stupid argument for this proposition!

  20. 120

Re: Kate36 – and vice versa

  21. 121

Re: Megasm – Theres also many ways in which they are similar. If this was meant to get people talking tho, objective was success

  22. 122

i can def see the relation….blacks back then were pretty much rejected just like gays are today….no matter what, there will always be racism and prejudice against others who are different and its really sad…

and for those of you who believe that you aren't born gay….its been scientifically proven over and over again that you are born that way….GOOGLE it!

  23. 123

    love it!

  24. 124

    Re: ShaylaRCakes – Good post

  25. 125

    Re: Chris131

By definition of what is constitutional and what is not. Prop 8 is constitutional. It restores the right of voting to citizens and takes it away from the few people that have risen to the rank of Supreme Court judge. It seems like a stretch but Prop 8 is a good choice as it restores democracy - I mean if they changed one ruling that people voted on surely there's nothing stopping them from changing another.

  26. 126

    I AGREE 100 FUCKING PERCENT!!!!

  27. 127

Re: TwoGoofballs – This is more than an issue of marriage though. Homosexuals are not considered equal no matter how you look at it. Gays and lesbians HAVE been ridiculed, beaten, and killed just for being so. Also, segregation was no limited to those who had been slaves, it was based on skin color, no more changeable than sexual orientation. Prop 8 is just one example of the way the homosexuals are treated as less than whole human beings. The pursuit of happiness IS a basic right that IS being violated. There are many differences in the two struggles, but they are not so different that they cannot be compared.

  28. 128

lol at the people who don't know what prop 8 is and are like "huh, when does this start? Where are they voting on seperate water fountains?"

  29. 129

Re: lovelylady66 – I love your country. I visit all the time. But it's pretty backwards. I know all about your history of segregation. I'm just saying that this water fountain idea is pretty damn stupid. its the same water.

  30. 130

    Re: No Patience – Amen.

  31. 131

"blacks back then were pretty much rejected just like gays are today…"

rejected? try burned alive and lynched, try not being able to vote, try having their homes burnt down. and yup that's just like gays are treated today.

  32. 132

And I don't get why so many people come here and freak out when they see this, telling Perez it's stupid.

It's a site run by a gay man who supports prop 8 and obama, don't like it? don't come here. He can post what he wants even if it's not what you wanted to see and you just came here to see lindeys vag or something like that.

  33. 133

Re: Genghis Khan – Your logic is so flawed it's not even funny. We change the definitions of words to include new things all the time. Especially when it comes to legal terms and medical terms etc. An apple is an apple and an orange is an orange… thank you for at least understanding this simple point. They are objects.
Marriage is not about genitalia, it is about love. Marriage is also not completely about religion, just ask married athiests.
News flash homosexuality IS normal and natural, otherwise how could people be born this way?

  34. 134

What scares me is that uninformed/egocentric people are trying to spread their ideology of hate. For those of you who are not aware, America was not founded by Christians. (Perhaps it has been taken over by loud/imposing Christian voices.) So before you begin throwing out invectives at a group of people who you do not know (because you would not bother to know them) realize that irrational people are not convincing; rather they often point previously undecided voters away from them and their -undeveloped- beliefs.

  35. 135

"It's a site run by a gay man who supports prop 8 and obama, "

wow does perez know Obama does not support gay marriage.

  36. 136

I know the point you are trying to make, but this is too extreme.

  37. 137

Re: xhollax – mathew sheppard? he was dragged by a car and killed for his homosexuality. what about gays and lesbians being treatedunfairly in the school systems. in chicago they want to open up a gay friendly school because os many gay kids feel uncomfortable and have been threatened and dropped out. gay people move to certain parts of hte country (san francisco, ma,) just so they can get away from the hatred of those who are ignorant. gay people are discriminated against every single day; so are jews and blacks and whites and everyone else. every group of people has felt some sort of prejudice. it doesnt boil down to who struggled the most and how long we struggled for. its that a group of people right now are being judged and punished for who they are. this picture symbolized every minority who has fought for what they beleive in.

  38. 138

Discrimination is discrimination regardless. A ban on gay marriage is institutionalized discrimination which makes it seem okay for gays to be discriminated against in other areas of their lives as well (even though they already are). If the government can discriminate why can't everyone else? A ban on gay marriage is government essentially endorsing discrimination. The picture just shows that separate does not mean equal. Civil Unions/Domestic Partnerships do not equal marriage. People may be outraged by the comparisson between gay marriage and this picture, but after seeing what this country has been through with racial discrimination among various other forms of discrimination, how can we allow or belittle any form of discrimination? Gay people may not experience discrimination on the same level that black people did or do still in some places, but that doesn't make it okay. Untill about 30 years ago gays could be locked up in mental institutions and in many states, including the one I live in they can be arrested for having sex in their own house, and hate crimes against gays are consistantly on the rise. Discrimination=Discrimination. None should be tolerated.

  39. 139

AMERICA IS STILL IN THE DARK AGES, ESPECIALLY COMPARED TO OTHER SO CALLED "DEVELOPED" NATIONS

  40. 140

that is probably one of the most ignorant things you've ever posted perez.
    you killed it man.

  41. 141

Re: jefdo – It is completely two different things, and I wholeheartedly agree with your statement. But that is minor. What really gets me crossed eyed and my pantys in a wad is the black people who fail to comprehend the Civil War. There were hundreds of thousands of men who died very painful and brutal deaths for your freedom. I'm continually reminded by that every time I hear a black cry out for "Obama, Justice." They are voting for him simply because he is black and democrat. They have been so unbelievably brainwashed they think the only way the can vote is democrate. No, there are other candidates out there who may suit you much better. Just because you are black, does not mean you have to be a democrat.

  42. 142

Not even close. Totally different planes and shockinly out of line to compare the two. There is no instance of segregation occuring. Gay couples have every legal right that a married couple does. They can adopt, have joint bank accounts, etc. 9 European countries legalized gay marriage in its entirity and only 2% of the gay population bother to marry. I have nothing against homosexuals. I have many friends who are gay and I am on this website daily but I don't want my children being taught homosexuality at school and feel that this is only the beginning of a spiral out of control of morals and the traditions that this nation was based on. With all due respect, Yes on Prop 8!!!

  43. 143

Re: grader44 – Oh the doomsday theory, then after polygamy hitler will return and be able to marry whoever he pleases.
Get a life and an education.

  44. 144

Anyone saying the comparison is extreme needs to be educated! You think gays aren't harassed, or threatened at all,… seriously?!? If you think that this is just about a piece of paper that says "married",.. WAKE THE FU(K up! If an American falls in love with someone from another country they are lucky if the other persons country isn't as stupid with their laws and accept same sex relationships. Otherwise they're fucked.

  45. 145

Re: xhollax – I think it's to be taken more symbolically than literally.

  46. 146

    Re: MissAvery – You're a fucking retard.

  47. 147

"mathew sheppard? he was dragged by a car and killed for his homosexuality. "

you equate that with MASS lynchings, murders, castrations, not being able to vote. What happened to that individual is a tragedy but why are you bent on equating it to the horrific evil that was imposed on a group of people.

  48. 148

Re: Genghis Khan – Hit it right on the head! Nicely put!

  49. 149

    no & no

  50. 150

Re: Genghis Khan – Name that candidate. Conservatives have been against every major civil rights movement in history. Until you name a third viable candidate i dont think there one.

  51. 151

Re: xhollax – it cold get to that point if people keep discriminating against gay people. banning marriage is the first step. besides haven't you heard of gay bashing same evil different victim!

  52. 152

Re: State ziti – Oh God State Ziti. I have no earthly idea what you are talking about, but Jesus I love you..

  53. 153

this argument is obviously controversial. how does one compare the civil rights debacle of the 60's to the gay rights arguments of our current times? while they are completely different…they represent the same wrongs. they represent the same instance of our country standing up for one citizen over another. they stand up for our country justifying judgment as an american value. as an american, the majority of people i associate with are accepting, kind-hearted people. let's represent our country as that which it really is…open-minded, aware folks…who really just want the best for everyone else. i'm just really not sure where the honor is in taking away peace of mind from our friends…

  54. 154

    Re: MissAveryRe: MissAvery
    what a very ignorant comment.
i agree that comparing prop 8 to the horrible discrimination that was inflicted upon the African American community is probably a little extreme. However, being gay is not a choice!
you don't wake up one morning and say, "you know what i don't fancy cock anymore, i'd prefer a vagina."
you are born gay, just like you are born with different coloured skin etc.

  55. 155

"Anyone saying the comparison is extreme needs to be educated! You think gays aren't harassed, or threatened at all,… seriously?!? I"

Are they burnt alive and lynched in mass numbers? Are they denied the right to vote? If not the comparison is beyond extreme it's SICK.

  56. 156

Re: moonatics – You are very upset. I hope you feel well soon……

  57. 157

    Re: State ziti

"Ironically the Black community is the MOST against gay rights. "

what do you mean by rights? marriage is not a right. now I will agree blacks, as one of the most religious groups in this country, do not AGREE with the gay lifestyle and they're entitled to that.

  58. 158

hey perez. i love you so much! you make my boring days so much more fun with this site. you're very funny. hope your not too hard on me when im famous. ;)

    love,
    heathaaaa!

    amen.
tyranny comes in many shapes and sizes….just ask Stalin

  60. 160

For those for some reason believe their children will be taught about homosexuality/marriage in schools…PLEASE visit www.NoOnProp8.com and listen to what the Calfornia School of Superindentent and the California Teachers Association.
In fact, every education authority in the state has rejected the lies surrounding the Prop 8 campaign. The California Teachers Association and the California School Boards Association both maintain that Prop 8 has nothing to do with teaching in public schools. In addition, education leaders across the state have endorsed the NO on Prop. 8 campaign, including Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education President Monica Garcia, Davis Joint Unified School Board President Sheila Allen and San Francisco Board of Education Vice-President Kim-Shree Maufas.

  61. 161

Just saying…what? That you're thirsty? That you're for separate drinking fountains for blacks? That gays should have separate drinking fountains from blacks? You lost me here, Perezito. Oh, I get it now… you are trying to equate the struggle blacks went through with gay marriage. Hmmmm. What's the word I am looking for here… oh yeah… FAIL.

if i hear one more cry for racism i am going to kill a bitch.

get over it. it is a completely valid comparison.

  64. 164

prop 8 is not a matter of equal rights, it is about the word marriage. what it means. i am voting yes on prop 8 to save the word marriage. marriage is between a man and a women. simple as that. that is how it has always been. like many politicians, i am for civil unions. we want equal rights and giving it to those whom choose to be gay. the problem is, it does not seem to be equal because it is not called "marriage". you want your rights then cool! but don't take the word marriage.

  65. 165

"i love you so much! you make my boring days so much more fun with this site. you're very funny."

nothing funnier than pissing on african americans and equating the horrific evils they indured to people who can't get a marriage license.

  66. 166

I think that what people are missing is that Perez probably didn't create this… That he probably found it out there and posted it to get people thinking and discussing… So what I don't understand is why everyone is attacking him for posting something that someone else created. No where does he say that he agrees with what the ad is depicted he merely put, "Just sayin'" and filed it under "Sad, sad." So how do any of you know how he really feels about his ad? Take time to think about that before casting stones…
And it really is sad that people on here are getting so upset and trying to minimize the discrimination and hatred like either African American's or Homosexual's have endured in this country. No, they may not be on the same scope as each other, but either way NO ONE deserves to go through the things that these groups have endured. So rather than trying to diminsh the struggle of one group by saying the other group had it worse why not do something to make sure that new group doesn't face the same atrocities as the other group… Just sayin'…

  67. 167

"it is a completely valid comparison."

I agree. torture, castration, burning people alive, and what ever other sick things you can think up equals not being able to get a marriage license.

  69. 169

Thank you! I feel like I've been saying this for months. I'm glad someone else recognized the similarities. Obviously, segregation was much worse so it's an extreme comparison but it really highlights how homosexuals are being treated like 2nd class citizens. I'm 100% positive some of the same bullshit reasons used to separate whites and blacks are being used today. I'm sure some people thought that they should be separate because of their narrow-minded religious beliefs. Or how about the fact that we would have to teach about african americans in school? The same bullshit, intolerant and ignorant reasons were used back then.

Yes, this is extreme. That situation was obviously much worse… some truly unbelievable cruelty and tolerance. But for the people who think that homosexuals aren't being treated cruelly in our nation, OPEN YOUR EYES. I know so many people who have/are being bullied simply because of their sexual orientation. And what about that innocent boy who was KILLED earlier this year?

This photo is all about the principle. So thank you Perez for pointing this out.

    VOTE NO ON PROP 8!

Stop and think about it guys. How can you possibly justify denying equal rights to other AMERICAN CITIZENS because you think its gross or because of bullshit religious beliefs. It's wrong, you are wrong, make the right choice.

  70. 170

excuse me. i believe you are born gay, and im not saying it is a bad thing. i dont think anyone should be treated unfairly because of their sexual preference, yet what marriage is, is the unity of a man and a women. there is no man and man or women and women. the argument is not supposed to be discrimination because those whom like myself who are voting yes are not discriminating. we are protecting the word marriage, and what it states and is in the bible, between a man and a women. it is not about not giving rights, because they are all there in the civil union/partnership

  71. 171

I totally agree! EVERYONE needs to vote NO on 8!!!

  72. iBake says – reply to this

    172

Perez i love you 2 death, but this comparison is way off the charts. Gays are not in the least segregated the way blacks were and some still are…Does Jena 6 ring a bell….anyways I'm all for support of gay marriage but the comparison to gays and black segregation is actually irresponsible on your part. Gays are not hung, burned, not able to vote, made to sit in the back off a bus or even made to drink at a separate water fountain. I do support NO on 8, but the picture I hate to see compared

  73. 173

    I've seen this…

  74. 174

    Re: sunbaybe
From Merriam-Webster online: 1 a (1): the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2): the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage b: the mutual relation of married persons : wedlock c: the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage2: an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected ; especially : the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities3: an intimate or close union

Even the dictionary has multiple definitions to it. You know why? ITS A WORD. Words and their meanings change over history and over time to fit new societal norms. I mean, if you wanna head back to the 14th century, by all means, go ahead. But I prefer living in the present when things change for the better. Thanks.

Also, while you might be voting yes because of the word "marriage", a lot of people are voting because they are discriminating and are intolerant. That is what is really unacceptable.

  75. 175

ya right… thats not even on the same level
get married sure but im never teaching it to children in school if thats the next step. im for equality but teaching adult situations to children seems more damaging then good

  76. 176

Re: Shawn Suarez – I spent 2 hours tonight in a parking lot talking with a stranger about why he must vote No on H8. I don't believe it's valuable to measure which group's oppression is worse. Oppression is oppression and inequality is inequality. However, many people do need to measure (I'm still studying why) and for those who do need to measure, I would agree that the systematic intensity of cultural deprivation, slavery, Jim Crow era, segregation and institutional racism far outweigh Prop 8. Is loss of one life the same as loss of a thousand lives? I don't know. A handful of deaths compared to the countless bodies that the Atlantic Ocean held, that slavery gave, and brutality stole… I believe that injustice to one is injustice to all. I value all people & get the symbolism of the post, but if we MUST measure… oh, nevermind Prop 8 is about human rights, Just Say No to 8 and McCain/Palin.

  77. 177

XHOLLA ANIMAL= LISTEN GHETTO TRASH BIGOT, HITLER KILLED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF GAY PEOPLE ALONG WITH MILLIONS OF JEWS,IN IRAN RIGHT NOW THOUSANDS OF GAYS ARE ARRESTED AND MANY KILLED ,ALL AROUND THIS CONTINTENT,IN JAMAICA GAYS ARE HARASSED AND KILLED,IN THIS COUNTRY MOST STATES DISCRIMINATE AGAINSTS GAYS NOT PROTECTING THEM AT WORK,MOST STATES DONT HAVE CIVIL UNIONS,SO GAYS CAN NOT HAVE ANY RIGHTS AS A COUPLE,SO SPARE ME YOUR BIGOTRY DISGUISED AS OUTRAGE. AND FOR THE RECORD ,BIGOTED BITCH, OBAMA AND BIDEN HAVE COME OUT FOR NO ON 8, NO ON 8 STOP THE HATE

  78. 178

Re: *Buff* – Homosexuals cry descrimination by those who oppose their marriage, so if we allow them to get married, wtf is next descrimination against polygamist so we must let them get married its only fair!! Unless you want to be labled a bigot!! Leave marriage the way it was ment to be 1 man 1 woman.
As for education I am an electrical and computer engineer so fuck off

  79. 179

Dizzle damn…people are pissed…go to omeingott.com if you want funny non-political crap to look at.

  80. 180

What is this? I am so sick of people putting blacks and whites apart from each other. Maybe my parents raised me right because i am a white woman and i don't see the difference. Blacks are just as smart and talented as the whites. Some of the hottest men in this world are black!!! Maybe one day we can all we equal.

This Ad is only in regard to the recent polling fact that over 60% of the Yes on Prob 8 voters are African-American. I think it is a perfectly suiting irony to use this comparison, and hopefully one to make those who have struggled for their own equality to think twice before voting yes to Prop 8,which will only allow in the discrimination that they fought all their lives to keep out. Vote NO on Prop 8

  82. 182

SUNBAYE BIGOT. ACTUALLY MOST OF THE GAYS IN THIS COUNTRY CANT HAVE CIVIL UNIONS BECAUSE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND EVENGELICAL CONSERVATIVE TRAILER TRASH FIGHT ANY RIGHTS FOR GAYS AND HARASS THEM AT EVERY TURN,BUT YOU KNOW THAT BIGOT DONT YOU, IF YOU CARE SO MUCH ABOUT MARRIAGE MAKE IT HARDER TO GET A DIVORCE BUT DONT BREAK UP ALL THE MARRIAGES THAT ARE LEGAL NOW IN CALIFORNIA FOR GAYS JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE HATE IN YOUR HEART. VOTE NO ON8 STOP THE HATE OBAMA/BIDEN 2008

    Re: grader44

Well, Mr./Mrs. I'm Educated Because I'm An Electrical And Computer Engineer,
Next time you want to say something stupid, try to spell and grammar check before you post. Secondly, you are forgot to note a fundamental difference in your comparison of gays and polygamists: gay people are born that way, polygamists choose to be greedy.

Then again, if you knew that you probably wouldn't have wasted the brain cells you spent to hit the submit button.

Re: State ziti – If you really are your words, I would love to talk with you. Not here, but to really talk and discuss issues. You seem to report the byproduct but either don't know or understand the historical basis of social trends and happenings. Let me know if we could setup a way to talk and just discuss. I'd like to hear your point of view and share mine with you…let me know…

Re: NO to HATE. NO on 8.

I see where you might be coming from. However we all know how the law works these days. All there need be is a tiny loop-hole and entire laws can be contorted or manipulated into the opposite of what the original meaning stood for. I see that people refer to this as a progressive move and that we consider ourselves a progressive culture. But some things just shouldn't change. Divorce was once taboo and today it is less common to find a couple together with their first husband or wife than it is to find a divorced one. Progression is good in many instances but I believe that the path that "no on Prop 8" will take us is one that we will all come to regret years from now. It's a pandora's box that is better left alone. At the same time I feel that the state has justly given gay couples ALL the legal rights of a heterosexual married couple but retaining the term marriage between a man and wife will safeguard our culture and society from the loopholes that a 'no' vote would eventually produce.

  86. 186

There is not proof that gays don't choose to be gay. No one chooses their race. Not on same level. Marriage is for a man and a woman.

  87. 187

    this is a great example.
African Americans were Discriminated and now Gay's are being discriminated.
Who has the right to judge what is normal and what is abnormal, who has the right to say who could marry whom, no one. So everyone against prop 8, should have a more open mind and get with the 21st century.

  88. 188

It is only SYMBOLISM; it's a literary term…look it up… lol… HOWEVER, if you would have photoshopped it and placed a heterosexual couple at one fountain and a homosexual couple at another and changed the signs, I think that would have been better. It gets a little dangerous when you talk about another group's plight when you are not of that group.

    Re: Genghis Khan

Anyone who is middle class or at/below the poverty line should vote democratic. It would work out better for them.

    "LISTEN GHETTO TRASH"

way to get your point across maturely

"RIGHT NOW THOUSANDS OF GAYS ARE ARRESTED AND MANY KILLED ,ALL AROUND THIS CONTINTENT,IN JAMAICA GAYS ARE HARASSED AND KILLED,"

are we talking about proposition 8 in california or jamiaica, iran, and whatever other non USA places you mentioned.

  92. 192

Whats wrong with gay people demanding equal rights? Arn't they American also? Wern't they also born in the same country as straight americans? People have the right to their religious beliefs after all we have the freedom of religion in America. However we also have the separation of church and state and this is an important thing that evengelical christians forget about. Your entitled to your beliefs but others are entitled to theirs as well no matter what you think about it. In America all should be equal and have the same rights. If certain denomonations of Christianity want to deny services of marriage to Gay couples thats another story but the legal rights and title of marriage belong to ALL people. Everyone should have the chance to get married if they want to. If you don't like it then don't do it but you don't have the right to tell Other people what to do! If threw out the concept of separation of church and state then America would be no better than Iran or Afghanastan. think about it.

Re: babyquasar – Perez, you're such an ass.

  95. 195

" I think it is a perfectly suiting irony to use this comparison, "

I agree. These people have been tortured, terrorized, burned alive and lynched, denied the basic right of voting. let's piss on their struggle if they don't support gay marriage which goes against their religion.

Your mindset is the EXACT reason why are economy is in so much trouble. Whatever happened to good, hard work. This really is the golden country where you can achieve WHATEVER you put your mind to and WORK HARD at! Don't take the easy way out cause it'll only get you so far…

  98. 198

    'this is a great example.
African Americans were Discriminated and now Gay's are being discriminated. '

Actually african americans were tortured, denied the basic right to vote, terrorized, burnt alive and hung from trees. If you think this is the same as gays not getting marriage licenses you my friend belong in a nut house.

  99. 199

Re: MissAvery – ill admit the comparison is a bit extream but you are truly dumb if you believe being gay is a choice. OBVIOSULY you are not gay otherwise you wouldent say that. so please do not talk as if you know for a fact that being gay is a choice, because there is no proof of that. the fact is that we do not know WHAT causes people to be gay, but i can tell you from personal experience that it is not a choice. Do you think people would actully CHOOSE to be harassed by some closed minded people like yourself. Do you actully believe people would CHOOSE to live a lifestyle that entails having to hide yourself on a daily basis out of fear that some idiot might hurt them?

you clearly dont know that the fuck you are talking about. so dont speak for me or anyone else by saying that I have chosen to be gay.

    bitch.

  100. 200

If I was black I would be infuriated with this comparison. Do gays have a separate water fountain? Are gays forced to sit at the back of buses? Do gays have to see signs in restaurants that say straight people only? Are gays forced to go to separate schools? And most of all, were gays every subjected with the torture of slavery?? Anyone who says its the same is so ignorant on so many levels. You should really take this down because it will piss off a lot of people. You crossed the line.
