not comparable by any means. can even be called offensive in my book. gays have rights and black people didnt, were killed and beaten if they even spoke out of turn. killed and raped and whipped and kidnapped and all of the above, not just one of them but all of them except for the few slaved under somewhat human slave owners. gays are married right now in several states, and with all the attention from celebs and such on prop 8, it will probably also be over-turned even though the voters didnt want gay-narriage in the first place. and that one man who got drug and killed behind a truck, its a horrible hate crime, but if you want to pull that, then i will call the gender card. i can tell you the rate of rape/sexual assault on woman 16-20 is much higher than gay hate crimes. domestic violence is also much higher.i cant jog after sunset, when i go to get my car worked on i get cheated out of my money, i get grabbed in the streets, women get paid less then men, so i dont want to hear about gays getting picked on and "woe is me,im gay and cant get married so im going through what they blacks went through." not true, everyone struggles, and you are no special exception, and i can say that even though im a woman who gets treated differently b/c i was born with a vagina, im not going to compare it in any way to what the slaves went through or the jews b/c that is ignorant and completely insensitve.
"This website makes me realize I live in a country full of ignorant assholes. "
I'm really hoping that's what it is. That they just don't know what happened to African Americans in this country (terrorized, segregated, denied the basic right of voting, burned alive, tortured, and hung from trees). I'm hoping they're just don't know and are not fully aware of the evil that's been done to African Americans as a group and honestly comparing the two.
"his is in no way, shape or form anything remotely close to what the African American's endured during the times after slavery was abolished. If I were African American, I would be really pissed that someone would try to equate gays not being able to marry to my ancestors being hung, burned, losing there houses, and segregated as 2nd class citizens. C'mon Perez, this was a little too far. "
I'm african american and this is absolutely sickening and a slap in the face to all my relatives who endured such evil. Anyone who would equate that evil, torture, and death to someone not being able to get a marriage license is a sick individual.
I think lovelylady66 said it best and I would like to see your reply to her valid points.

BUT i see people aorund me who dont have the RIGHT TO MARRIAGE, because yes, it is a RIGHT although for some reason, you don't know the definition and keep saying it isnt. your people don't need to be mass lynched in order to go through something awful. please stop diminishing the gay rights movement by playing up our peoples struggles. and yes it is a gay rights movement. although there are no segregation laws, gay people clearly are harrassed and segregated every day. as a black person, i am seriously concerned with the fact that so many of my people can not see the similarities of unequality today, ESPECIALLY because we faced it for so many years."
"The are very close. This pic says it all. It is how Gays are treated. "
very close??? Tell me what's close to being burned alive and hung from a tree? NOT BEING ABLE TO GET A MARRIAGE LICENSE!! are you out of your fucking mind
OF COURSE the homophobes that support prop 8 don't want you to compare past discrimination to current discrimination, theyre EMBARRASSED. As they should be. Guys, Gals, your Republican voting mommy and daddy brought you up to discriminate against people that are different from you, face it, deal with it and move on. Don't flip flop and say black people had it worse and so therefore you can't compare. DISCRIMINATION IS DISCRIMINATION, its not about levels of discrimination, it's about ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. ALL MEN. Not straight men, ALL MEN. Marriage is NOT a religious thing, get over yourselves. I'm sorry if black people are offended by this post, I live in Louisiana and truly empathise with the ongoing cause of ending discrimination against black people, but I don't think this was about lessening your pain or your fight, it is about showing people who are voting yes on prop 8 who they are. Relics from a shameful past. Sad. No on Prop 8 xox
"I find it sad that so many do not see the relation because of their own hatred and guilt."
Guilt? Hate? I am an african american and had I been alive might have been on the receiving end of this evil. I might have been burnt alive and hung from a tree for my skin color and untill there is mass lychings of gays and they don't even have the right to vote they need to stop comparing themselves to african americans. IT IS SICK!
Isn't it funny that religious extremists tend to be a part of the less educated class. Due to being stepped on by society, they use the bible as a tool to promote hatred in order to gain some kind of leverage/power.
Marriage is NOT a christian tradition. It was NOT invented by Christians. They have a religious ceremony which is finally bound by a LEGAL contract. You can have an entire religious ceremony and not follow the legal aspect of a marriage and it will not be recognized. Also, it is funny that they choose to promote certain ambiguous parts of the bible when they clearly ignore parts which are much clearer. Do you wear clothing made from more than 2 fabrics? That's a sin you should die for.
To the person who stated that you're not born gay because those who went through aversion therapy and ”became” heterosexual stated that they were deviant. Aversion therapy kills one's self esteem and it is usually done through a religious process. Those people are still gay. They have just learned to hate themselves. Homosexuality is not a disease nor can it be compared to a birth defect. It's not surprising that most people who go through aversion therapy end up committing suicide.
"what bothers me about this image that you put up is that gays can be black, white. asian, latino, whatever. invoking the hatred that blacks in this country experienced for centuries, the colonial mindset that they still feel today is WRONG. "
I guess he feels that since african americans have been pissed on and denigrated for so long he can disrespect them and diminish their struggle as well for his won purpose.
I was just talking about this to a girl in my class right now. She was saying she is not againts gays, but wants them to have a seperate restroom because she is no comfortable. I WAS SOO MAD! I told her that despite what she might believe, she comes off the same way racist where before her. They segragated Whites and Colored. I asked her if that was ok, and she said it wasn't about that, it was that she doesn't feel comfortable when there is a gay in the restroom. I said that was stupid because alot of guys and girls arn't comfortable when people of their same orientation and sex are there. So it does not make a difference. I told her she was being stpud because segregation is not going to make anyone feel accepted at all
That photograph breaks my heart. This happened in the 20ty Century, in good old USA, who thought so highly of itself, the great democracy. A lot of people are still racists, too many Americans. BTW being homophobic and racist comes from the same basic principle: hate and fear of what you don't know and don't want to be. SHAME on the racists and the homophobes. LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR, JESUS SAID.
As a African American gay man I can appreciate the relationship you're trying to show. However, the two are not the same and I find the comparision a bit offensive. Is it necessary? Just say preventing gay people from getting married is WRONG! The last time I checked Perez was not an expert on the history of race.
" you really need to chill. nobody is saying that african americans had it just as bad as gay people. seriously, if youve read any of these posts (literally just one) you would see that. "
Really? I quoted two people who said this is the exact same thing and another person who said this is very close
"m guessing since you read perez hilton, you were not marching on washington, picking cotton in the south, or being shackled in chains across the atlantic. what wrongs have you yourself suffered. "
You know nothing about me but thanks for the ignorant assumptions. Not only have I been involved in protests I organized a walkout at my highschool with the 6 other high schools in my city. You have no clue what my personal experiences are and your foolish stereotypes don't apply.
My grandma is 85 years old and from the south. and yes she did pick cotton for a living. My dad was active in the civil rights movement and had a demented evil white racist sick a dog on him and try to kill him.
Your ignorant foolish assumptions about me and my life don't apply.
"UT i see people aorund me who dont have the RIGHT TO MARRIAGE,"
Marriage is not a right
"Marriage is NOT a religious thing, "
Actually it is, it's a religious institution. The gov't didn't create marriage religion did. You want in to a religious institution but don't want to abide by it's rules then turn around and equate that to being burned alive and lynched.
Re: MissAvery – You couldn't be more wrong. Being gay is not a CHOICE. Don't comment unless you KNOW what you are talking about.
As a gay person, I can tell you that we don't CHOOSE to be gay. I grappled with it my entire youth, because society (and people like you) think it's wrong
and keep pushing your own biased views. I'm not saying I agree that being gay is the same as being black, but we are enduring the same challenges as black people did, in trying to be treated EQUALLY. No one said that slavery was right, we're just saying we want equality. And by the way, there is LOTS of gay bashing, hatred and discrimination, so there ARE some similarities.
GOD CREATED ADAM AND EVE NOT ADAM AND STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: xhollax – No one equated being gay with slavery.
If you look at the picture, it was about blacks and whites not having equality.
Please don't discount how difficult it is for a gay person to live in this world. I wouldn't think of discounting how hard it must be for a black person, but I resent your discounting the stuggle that gay people have. This isn't about just being able to get married, it's about EQUAL RIGHTS.
the initial reason for sep of church and state was to keep the gov out of the church not the other way around. and i understand homosexuality isnt a choice but it also isnt a valid comparison to slavery. it underminds the situation, and gays arent the only minority subjected to discimintaion by far.
not comparable by any means. can even be called offensive in my book. gays have rights and black people didnt, were killed and beaten if they even spoke out of turn. killed and raped and whipped and kidnapped and all of the above, not just one of them but all of them except for the few slaved under somewhat human slave owners. gays are married right now in several states, and with all the attention from celebs and such on prop 8, it will probably also be over-turned even though the voters didnt want gay-marriage in the first place. and that one man who got drug and killed behind a truck, its a horrible hate crime, but if you want to pull that, then i will call on the gender card. i can tell you the rate of rape/sexual assault on woman 16-20 is much higher than gay hate crimes. domestic violence is also much higher.i cant jog after sunset, when i go to get my car worked on i get cheated out of my money, i get grabbed in the streets, women get paid less then men, and we also coundt vote for a long time, so i dont want to hear about gays getting picked on and "woe is me,im gay and cant get married so im going through what the blacks went through." not true, everyone struggles, and you are no special exception, and i can say that even though im a woman who gets treated differently b/c i was born with a vagina, im not going to compare it in any way to what the slaves went through or the jews b/c that is ignorant and completely insensitve.
Re: Aprylc20 – Why should I have to hide the way I feel?
I should be able to be who I am, without feeling ashamed or judged.
Who cares if I can 'hide it'? I shouldn't have to. I should have the right to be treated equally, under the law. It amazes me that African American people can not even give the least bit of consideration about equality for all, when you have been fighting for this same right for years. No one (okay maybe the ignorant people on this post, but they don't speak for me) is discounting the struggles that black Americans have had to endure over the years, all we are asking people to do is see some of the similarities between our struggle
for equality and to take a look at how ridiculous it was for black people to be treated the way they were, as an example. What's so wrong with that?
Re: xhollax – Oh okay, I get it. You have a problem with
gay people and how dare us compare ourselves to you. Why didn't you just
be honest and say so, instead of pushing your own agenda? I think someone can use a bit of education themselves, before they judge others.
Re: jackie kay – Yeah, we heard you the FIRST time.
It doesn't make your post any more true. It's not just about getting married,
it's about equal rights. And just because you don't think we should have them,
doesn't make your point any more valid.
Gay Marriage goes deeper than just marriage, and it's sad for those who can't see that. It is society realizing that ANY DEGREE of hatred against another for being who they are, and therefore not giving them the same rights, treatment, benefits, etc. as another person is wrong. It does not matter who was treated more poorly, for how long, or when. What matters is Americans still not being able to accept and realize what is morally wrong. To remain with degrees of ignorance, hatred, and predjudices, and still being unable to learn from the past goes much deeper than a marriage. Whether it's race, sex, age, sexual orientation, religion:
Also, I'd like to point out. Um, nowhere on that picture do I see lynching, castration or anything like that. It happened yes, but the picture is not depicting that. It's depicting a basic right of all human beings to share things.
if Perez put up a lynching/castration/etc, then yes, I could see you bringing that up. But he didn't.
and I reiterate to all you people who say gays have it good: who's to say those rights will not be taken away just as this one is? I honestly want to know. How do you know that one day in the future, everyone who is in the least bit of way different, WON'T be hunt down, and beaten to death? Or forced to be a lower class of citizen? You can take away marriage after all. why not voting rights? why not force gays to use a seperate water fountain? god knows enough people think gay is somehow dirty.
but heh, who cares right? we all know gays are TOTALLY in it for all the social benefits it brings.
this is seriously disgusting and hurtful. i know that politics will do anything to get votes but…wow. I feel really sorry for all the people that think being black is the same as being gay…even if it is life for black people hasn't gotten all that much better racism still exists and we see it everyday. so if prop 8 passes please don't expect to see everyone just embrace it…wow what has our world come too?
Re: Moluver – actually i didnt mean to post it twice, and secondly just b.c you say its not valid, doesnt make it invalid. are you the keeper of all that is valid?i dont think so.it is very valid, stop bitching jesus christ its annoying. it is just about marriage, thats the only right you dont share "equally" so that makes your point invalid. and what is the prop about??marriage.and its not the same whatever way you want to slice it as slavery.and when did i ever say i dont think you should have the right to marry??? point out where, you read it twice so you should know where right, right?? if i lived in c.a. then i would vote no so dont think just b/c i disagree with this post image, that i disagree with no on prop 8.play the victim all you want but until you stop acting like one, you will always be one. god, grow up. everyone has problems, and you are no better than anyone else and dont deserve coddling from the whole damn country b/c of the lifestyle you live. i wish you could all get married so you would just SHUT UP ALREADY!
Re: greatscot – Why can't it be a choice? There is no proof of being born gay. Shut the fuck up with that shit. You have no proof of people being born gay, no one does.
Oh fucking get the fuck over it, gd it. OBVIOUSLY the intent was NOT to say that not letting gay people get married is THE EXACT SAME THING as segregation and slavery and all that, it's just saying that proposition 8 wouldn't give gays equal fucking rights. Fucking read the message instead of just completely misconstruing the entire point and pop off at the mouth, fuck.
Re: MissAvery – I agree with you that being gay is somewhat of a choice. I am gay myself but do not believe I was born gay. Its a sorry excuse to try to defend something that if the person was really proud of it, they would fight for it and not blame it on being born that way.
Re: uhhuh1013 – I agree with you all the way. Also, I'm not a historian, but The USA CONSTITUTION did NOT say that you were NOT HUMAN Perez. Blacks were 3/5 th human if I remember my history correctly (someone correct me if I'm wrong - 3/5 th is a fact that too important to get wrong) . If you had said Gay Rights in general then that would be somewhat of a comparison ( a small comparison), but not just to gay marriages. The mistreatment of gays as far as hate crimes , and discrimation is something I am against. But I do understand just as gays , Jews, and Gentiles, who participated with the blacks during both Civil Rights Movements (yes there were two, the second one was stronger than the first) that if you take away the rights of one people you take away the rights of all people. Those people died too. Esp. remember this Nov. 4th.
yeah, this comparison is not appropriate. anti-gay marriage is nothing compared to racism back in the day. it's totally different. sure, they're both dealing with equality issues, but gays aren't segregated, lynched, enslaved…
racism is a much bigger issue than prop 8. just sayin. they're not the same.
I had stopped reading Perez for a while because he IS such a race hater enabler, but I felt compelled to comment. I can say with all honesty that Perez is right in a weird way. Less than 100 years ago I was a double whammy (chocolate and titties) and was less than a 2cd class citizen. The fact that someone could convince others that blacks, women, gays are inferior goes to show just how much like sheep some people are and that is all our faults. We act like shit is cool till we are faced with decisions like this. This has nothing to do with any of us, it's a basic human right. If you tell gays that they can't marry for whatever ignorant reason, what is to stop the government from creating laws that would take away rights? Next thing you know is that all Mexicans and Africans will be on boats being sent back-like the government wants. Women will be forced to have bastard kids or back alley abortions-like the government wants. Men will be able to sleep with a young girl if she has a menstrual because physically she is a woman-like the Vatican is trying to explain to the government. How do you pick and chose which evil we can and can't live with, when they are all evil.
One People, One Love, One World
Re: tyleroakley – That's a good point. "SEPERATE BUT EQUAL" - that decision ( and system of legal segregation )was based on PLESSY V. FERGERSON(sp) decision , but was overturned by BROWN V. THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF TOPEKA KANSA. If Gay Activist have to fight this thing ( Legal Gay marriages as a constitutional right ) to the Supreme Court, I'm thinking that's part of the basis of their argument. What it will end up being is a Supreme Court Case (if not already on its way there). That's going to be the only way to just get it legal in the US of A , add it to the Constition. Pick a case, or make it a class action case and go from there . Screw state by state. Focus more on getting the cases you have to the U S Supreme Court. I'm not an expert on this so I'm sure it's already in progress. Just my 3 cents… Yeah , I know my spelling sucks…
Re: xxjeannexx – That should have been the comparison, interracial marriges. Not the entire mistreatment of blacks . He would have had a better point there and no one (almost no one) could have denied his point. That's something I did not think about. There was a movie made a few years ago about that couple who took it to the Supreme Court (U S ). It think it took them over ten years. Anyway, it's going to take some years to leagalize gay marriges nationwide. I really do hope it gets there because the reality is gays are being denyed their rights based on religious beliefs, yet , this country is suppose religion , and state views. Just my 3 cents…
STOP THE HATE NO ON 8 AND THE PEOPLE ATTACKING PEREZ FOR STANDING UP FOR PEOPLES RIGHTS ARE DISGUSTING. WHO CARES WHAT IS WORSE,TODAY IN THIS COUNTRY BLACKS HAVE MANY MORE RIGHTS THEN GAY PEOPLE,THATS HOW IT IS TODAY,SO LETS DEAL WITH THE PRESENT INSTEAD OF CHANGING THE FOCUS ON PURPOSE TO HIDE YOUR UGLY BIGOTRY NO ON 8 STOP THE HATE NO ON 8 NO ON 8 OBAMA/BIDEN 2008 NO ON 8
Re: saturdaylive –
The fact that you CHOSE to live in OHIO is the whole purpose of Prop 8.-the freedom to be happy. You chose to live in the Ozarks, I chose to live in a city. If you could live anywhere you wouldn't chose Ohio, U were born there. If not, than U R like those stank bitches U so lovingly referred to, choosing the worst when U could have the best. Like being gay, I don't think that it's a choice-who would chose to be hated on? NOBODY. I love my gays and they love being gay because that is them, but if you ask I would bet my life that they would chose to assimilate with others.
Re: SpiceyVanilla – You do realize don't you, that marriage actually has nothing to do with the bible and everything to do with contracts? A civil arrangement? Nope?…I didn't think so.
Oh and just in case you forgot, as an obviously patriotic, dimwitted bigot often does, the bible says to stone women to. Oh yes, and that quite a few other craziness that is clearly not going to work in a FREE society. Yes, I know *sigh*…you're not really free at all. Care for some Freedom Fries with that Homeburger?
Oh yes sorry, there is also a little thing called separation of church and state in your Constitution.
Um… it's ridiculous to think that there are different levels of discrimination and intolerant behavior… granted this emotional ad is not how to go about getting undecided voters to vote No on Prop 8… but let's face it.. Inequality is INEQUALITY… there's NO MEASUREMENT… we need to all fight together to stop those who wish to take Equality out of our Constitution. What IS sick is that there are people on here who think that just because black people suffered more, that discriminating against homosexuals is ok.. because it's NOT.. discrimination of ANYONE of ANY RACE, GENDER, RELIGION or SEXUAL ORIENTATION, etc.. Again… HATE IS HATE… Fight HATE (of any kind) by Voting No on Prop 8. (If you're in California that is…) Those in other states with the same proposition vote against Hate… against Discrimination.. Vote for Equality… and for those who live in a state where this isn't pertinent to this upcoming election.. just know.. yes Black people suffered a LOT.. but that does not give anyone any right to discriminate gays just because they haven't suffered as much.. it's ridiculous.. it's juvenile.. and it should not be tolerated in a country where Freedom is such an important symbol for all who live here.
WOW, Thats fucked up. Dont you dare compare the hell//inequalities that blacks went thru during slavery + afterwards 2 gays not being aloud to marry!!! The segragation & evil inhumane torture//discrimination that an entire race endured has NOTHING in common with a fucking law prohibiting fags from getting married!!! Sure you may make the connection because you dont feel that your being treaten = BUT that does not give you the right to compare the two, as if you really see them on the same level. thats fucked up, you should take it down.
Re: xhollax –
Haha are you joking? You obviously dont know anything about the gay movement. Gays had to struggle through years of hardships and were forced to live unwillingly in the closet. There were 1000s of murders of gays since the 60s. In fact there was a murder of two gay elderly men in Indianapolis over the weekend. Learn some history and check your facts before you go off on someones else's culture.
Re: thegoodlife08 –
Are you fucking stupid? Do you not think that gays were once treated like that? Google Stonewall Rebellion in the 60's dumbass and check your facts before you open your mouth.
*I am not trying to insult you but rather I am seriously trying to understand where you are coming from. I agree with you in saying that the gay rights movement and the civil rights movements are not EQUAL but do you honestly not see how the underlying message, discrimination is wrong, are similar.
*We disagree that marriage is not a right. I understand the point you made that it was a religious practice integrated into our government but there are plenty of non-religious people who get married. Should we not allow them to get married either? I'm interested in hearing your view on this point.
*Slavery was introduced to the Americas in the early 1600's and was officially abolished with the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865. That's over 2 centuries of slavery. After slavery was abolished there was still racism, mass lynching, segregations, hangings and Jim Crow laws, etc. all up until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1968. That is the most stained point of American history. And honestly, because of the extremities that happened during this time, I don't think any prejudices towards any group (whether based on race or sexual orientation) will EVER get that extreme again. I do believe however that we cannot be held responsible for our ancestors’ actions. I never owned slaves. But, we owe it to the present people and the future generations to teach and practice equality.
*I am married to an African-American man with two beautiful mixed children and I teach them both of our cultures. When our children were old enough my husband and I taught them about MLK, Rosa Parks, W.E.B. Du Bois, Malcolm X and other key figures in the Civil Rights Movement (and also the struggle leading up to this movement). We also taught them, when they were old enough, that gays are experiencing something similar, NOT EQUAL but equally important. Just because the injustices done to African Americans have a higher body count does not make it any more important than the gay rights movement. Maybe you feel that way because you don't support gay rights. The atrocities were much more extreme with the history of slavery/racism but the main point is the same. That discrimination is wrong and that the government shouldn't encourage it with its legislation. I believe that Prop 8 would be the beginning of gay Jim Crow laws.
*I would really appreciate your reply and hopefully we can do it maturely without insulting one another. We might not be able reach an agreement or find some common ground, but, I want to at least try and understand where you are coming from.
Re: xhollax –
Hey ass how about get a fucking job or a life and go debate in the real world instead of whining on a GAY MAN's website about how blacks are treated so horribly and everyone else is put on a pedistal. You really start to give black people a bad name- saying that you are the only minority in america that has been put down. Sorry but you arent the only ones and you do NOT get sympathy from me because i beleive in equal rights for ALL people no just equal rights according to skin color. you are so fucking deluded. I am wasting my time writing this because you are probably 15 years old- or well, at least have that mental capacity.
Oh, geez.
For the people saying that everyone needs to look at the 'basics' of what he's trying to say can lick dog caca.
I think trickling down slavery and segregation to 'basically' just like Ellen and ole' girl having a wedding and seeing each other in the hospital room is cool.
The horror of a little black girl being raped by a white guy who tells her that she's not a human, but then having his babies who will also be discriminated against and enslaved is BASICALLY like me picturing myself not being able to get married in California.
I know gay non-black dudes who don't get discriminated on at all.
Black people back then didn't just have to read about one black person getting murdered by someone for being black. They could just walk outside!!
Most gays don't even know what its like to be discriminated against
cause no one sees who's hole you stick it in.
You say you are gay, then when did you choose to be gay?? at what stage of your life you said to yourself "today I will like boys" when? answer that.
Im a boy, ever since I was little I remember being attracted to boys, always, all my life, and my parents are straight, my 2 brothers are straight, my sister is straight, I've been surrounded by straight people all of my life yet Im gay, I like men and I can't help it, I never chose this, so when did YOU made the choice?
Re: ObamaistheMessiah – Dude, I was replying to an idiot. I guess I am again. You know, I am a huge Obama supporter, like you, but I think you have some problems. You scare me.
People this country was founded with an emphasis on Christianity and the Bible! Homosexuality is a SIN. When will this nation wise up? Piece by piece government is helping the minority of the US take God out of everything. It's time the Christian people of this great nation take it back!
This country was not founded on Christianity. It was founded on/by people not wanting to pay taxes, join the religion of the nation, and trying to build a land of their own to make money and have power but then realized that 'oh that takes work!' So they went out and got people to work and decided not to compensate them and then to look into the Bibles that they bought (and probably forgot somewhere in a suitcase) to say that dark is evil and that enslaving and breeding and raping them was alright. Cause that's what it says right after all men are equal, GOD looks at the heart, and judge not lest ye be judged.
Re: No Patience – Your argument fits perfectly for both sides. Why should certain religions be forced to change the very doctrines that define their belief systems to accomodate homosexuals? Being homophobic isn't a crime - violence is and I do not condone it for any reason. Neither do any of the major accepted religions. Homophobia, on the other hand, is different. You view it as a violation of your civil rights. They view it as a divine teaching woven throughout the thread of their religious fabric.

Re: State ziti – Im not sure if you'll return to this thread but I will ask anyway. Do you have an instant messenger? We can take it from there. I don't think folks will use it inappropriately, but if you are concerned about that, I understand. I dont know how else to set this up. I am still interested in understanding your point of view and sharing mine with you.
Wow some of you people need to figure out what HUMAN RIGHTS are. This is not about a black issue or a gay issue, this is a human issue. The point of segregation and discrimination is telling somebody they do not deserve to be treated the same as everyone else. Telling blacks they can't use the same fountains as whites and telling gays they can't get married is discrimination all around, it's all the same, hate is hate is hate is hate. IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED!!!
IT IS A TOTALLY FAIR AND ACCURATE COMPARISON - OBVIOUSLY PEOPLE 'NOT' AFFECTED by the hate that is brewing and being slung at the GAY community would not understand- YOU try being on the 'wrong' side of the "Right" ………..
I still will never understand to this day why…why … why blacks are so hateful and un-accepting of gays when as u see from the picture above -they have undoubtedly suffered from a bit of (Yes on themselves!!!!!
Bravo, Perez! I don't know how anyone could be reminded of America's shameful history of discrimination like this and still be in favor of treating people unequally…
I can think of one better if you're going for shock value. There are many gruesome pictures of starved Jews and POWs that the Nazis buried in mass body graves. The implication is that Prop 8 would lead to something like that. Persecution, starvation, and death are next. If Prop 8 passes, we'll all die. The problem is that doing things like that desensitizes everyone so that eventually, no one will eventually pay attention to us. Overreacting sometimes does more harm than good. Try to keep it closer to reality.
Re: MsDoloD81 – Re: MsDoloD81 – #17
This question is proof of how bad the public education system has deteriorated. Apparently, Ms Dodo was missing the day segregation was taught at her school.
PEREZ….. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKIN' ABOUT????? NOT EVEN THE SAME THING PATNA DEUCE!'
I CAN'T WAKE UP TOMORROW AND DECIDE TO BE WHITE???
2B GAY /LESBIEN IS A CHOICE!!!! & I HAVE A GAY COUSIN AND HE SHOULD BE WITH WHOMEVER WANTS TO BE WITH HIS FABULOUS SELF… THAT IS WHY I VOTE NO ON PROP 8!!!
I only created a user name just so I can say this:
I read your blog everyday and yes a lot of the shyt you say is outrageous but I have never been so sick to my stomach as I was after seeing this post. YOu have got to be out of your mind and seriously not even from this planet, to believe that these to issues are even remotely the same. Slavery and gay marriage? so we are just going to ignore the fact that slaves werent allowed to marry and were either rapped or forced into marriage for "breeding"?
If you are even a semi decent human being you would take this photo down and appologize…but then again I doubt that your brain can even wrap around anything outside of your own self centered views.
I am old enough to remember those days. Everyone is trotting out the same old tired reasons for gays not marrying as when they were opposing equal rights for blacks.
White marrying black was against the law and people quoted the Bible to point out that they were right in their beliefs.
There are inter racial marriages, no apocalypse has come and men aren't asking to marry *insert animal of choice*.
Intolerance breeds hate, hate breeds violence. That is why we have wars.
Re: jlenoconel – You are obviously NOT gay, or you wouldn't
make an ignorant statement like this. Either that, or you haven't work through all of the issues with your sexuality yet. It's not a choice.
Re: jackie kay – Your post to me made absolutely NO sense, by the way. I suggest you learn how to put a sentence together, before you attempt to make a valid point (which you didn't).
Re: Moluver – you have serious hetero-hate issues. why do you feel the need to tear down every single opposing post?? you arent going to change anyone views, you nag. and it does make sense if you could read, i am tired of people like you pretending like the whole world is in on trying to fend off gays and their rights when for the most part, no one gives a shit.
so….. SHUT UP!!!!
and obviously i struck some kind of chord sense you've gone back and posted on me twice, there was no point to the comment directed towards you. just plain and sinply said you and people like you(not gays, but ppl w/ your defensive, victim mentality) are annoying and not worth all this uproar.
and i made perfect sense b4 that. i am very educated and dont feel the need to tell everyone on this blog that they arent to make myself feel better, none of what you said had much sense in my opinion but that doesnt make it any less valid to be heard on this site so i didnt feel the need to tell you so and pick fights like a damn 5 yr old.
bitch.
Re: jackie kay – FUCK YOU. I'm not a hetero-hater.
How fucking ridiculous. Just because I don't agree with you does not make
me a hater. I suggest you look in a mirror. Just thought I'd bring myself
down to YOUR level, so you can understand my message better, since intellect obviously doesn't work with you.
this blog is so old, you just wanted to argue. you are pathetic. o and you can never get on my level, im not a hater or close-minded so you can shove it and stop trying to get the last word because you think calling me stupid is going to make me feel that way. I am way more secure in my intellect and ability to prove a point then you are. go ahead, say something else, because it so matters.
geez im out-get a life.
you arent even arguing with someone who is for prop 8,how petty can you get.
not comparable by any means. can even be called offensive in my book. gays have rights and black people didnt, were killed and beaten if they even spoke out of turn. killed and raped and whipped and kidnapped and all of the above, not just one of them but all of them except for the few slaved under somewhat human slave owners. gays are married right now in several states, and with all the attention from celebs and such on prop 8, it will probably also be over-turned even though the voters didnt want gay-narriage in the first place. and that one man who got drug and killed behind a truck, its a horrible hate crime, but if you want to pull that, then i will call the gender card. i can tell you the rate of rape/sexual assault on woman 16-20 is much higher than gay hate crimes. domestic violence is also much higher.i cant jog after sunset, when i go to get my car worked on i get cheated out of my money, i get grabbed in the streets, women get paid less then men, so i dont want to hear about gays getting picked on and "woe is me,im gay and cant get married so im going through what they blacks went through." not true, everyone struggles, and you are no special exception, and i can say that even though im a woman who gets treated differently b/c i was born with a vagina, im not going to compare it in any way to what the slaves went through or the jews b/c that is ignorant and completely insensitve.
a disturbing thought just came to mind . . .
racisim (ironically) knows no color
"This website makes me realize I live in a country full of ignorant assholes. "
I'm really hoping that's what it is. That they just don't know what happened to African Americans in this country (terrorized, segregated, denied the basic right of voting, burned alive, tortured, and hung from trees). I'm hoping they're just don't know and are not fully aware of the evil that's been done to African Americans as a group and honestly comparing the two.
You are a racist jerk for even trying to compare the two. Ass Hole
"He's not trying to compare the to on the same level he's just making a point that its basic discrimination."
Being burnt alive, castrated, and hung from a tree is not basic discrimination.
To XhollaX:
I think lovelylady66 said it best and I would like to see your reply to her valid points.
lovelylady66 said:
"xhollax . . . you really need to chill. nobody is saying that african americans had it just as bad as gay people. seriously, if youve read any of these posts (literally just one) you would see that. you really need to move on with your life. there are other battles to fight IN THE PRESENT. im guessing since you read perez hilton, you were not marching on washington, picking cotton in the south, or being shackled in chains across the atlantic. what wrongs have you yourself suffered. i know we see discrimination in our lives. being black is tough.
Re: embo – Totally agree.
IT IS SICK!
"OF COURSE the homophobes that support prop 8 don't want you to compare past discrimination to current discrimination, theyre EMBARRASSED. "
Why would I be embarrased by my honorably, brave, and valiant relatives who fought against evil with the possible consequence of death.
"I am so sick of everyone equating gay rights to the civil rights movement. It is not remotely the same. "
I am as well and it doesn't advance their cause in the least.
OMG!!!
Wrong. No comparison. Use your brain, Perez!
Re: lol_sparta – you're an idoit
As a African American gay man I can appreciate the relationship you're trying to show. However, the two are not the same and I find the comparision a bit offensive. Is it necessary? Just say preventing gay people from getting married is WRONG! The last time I checked Perez was not an expert on the history of race.
Re: MissAvery – i dont exactly think being gay is a choice if so why would gays put themself through all the torture they get? honestly
I'm for No on Prop 8 but this is ridiculous… This is about marriage… not about 400 years of unpaid and thankless service…
I see what your trying to say but this is more of a stretch then considering Michael Jackson black still
" you really need to chill. nobody is saying that african americans had it just as bad as gay people. seriously, if youve read any of these posts (literally just one) you would see that. "
Re: guitarchild – You are an ignorant putz.
DISCRIMINATION=DISCRIMINATION=DISCRIMINATION.
I feel really sorry for all the people that think being black is the same as being gay…even if it is life for black people hasn't gotten all that much better racism still exists and we see it everyday. so if prop 8 passes please don't expect to see everyone just embrace it…wow
what has our world come too?
Re: PeachGirl – Again, there is no proof of it not being choice either. You should do your research. And before you ask, yes I am gay.
STOP THE HATE VOTE NO ON 8 STOP THE HATE VOTE NO ON 8 NO ON 8 SAY NO TO HATE
Re: knowitall –
What you said.
Dinwit.
Sure you may make the connection because you dont feel that your being treaten = BUT that does not give you the right to compare the two, as if you really see them on the same level. thats fucked up, you should take it down.
it is not even on the same level!!!!
Re: MissAvery – fuck you cunt! being gay is not a choice open a textbook!
*To xhollax:
*To xhollax (continued…)
Re: Ashley_Nicole –
You are so fucking deluded Ashhhley…take your 6th grade diploma and stuff it in your big mouth.
wow, not even close to the same thing… oh the controversy.
Re: xhollax –
My sentiments exactly. Prop 8 is not the same…….
Perez this is disgusting….be ashamed…..
Being an Afrian American…isn't immoral…you jackass…..
Not the same….I can't believe this…..so absurd…..
Re: xhollax –
Amen
Thank you…..
Re: MissAvery –
I never chose to be gay.
when did you chose to be straight?
IDIOT.
Most gays don't even know what its like to be discriminated against
cause no one sees who's hole you stick it in.
wow, that's a very disturbing picture
Re: jlenoconel –
You say you are gay, then when did you choose to be gay?? at what stage of your life you said to yourself "today I will like boys" when? answer that.
Im a boy, ever since I was little I remember being attracted to boys, always, all my life, and my parents are straight, my 2 brothers are straight, my sister is straight, I've been surrounded by straight people all of my life yet Im gay, I like men and I can't help it, I never chose this, so when did YOU made the choice?
NOT EVEN CLOSE>>> YES ON PROP 8
Cause that's what it says right after all men are equal, GOD looks at the heart, and judge not lest ye be judged.
not the same .

I just find it so INSANE that, in the midst of the biggest economic crisis since the great depression, TWO wars, and various other truly frightening things going on in the world, ANYONE would actually be so ignorant as to look away from all of that and focus on trying to get a law that says two people who love each other can't marry.
I just… I cannot even COMPREHEND that for the life of me!
I SO wish I lived in California so I could vote on this thing
Because it's RIDICULOUS. No, MORE than ridiculous, it's… spreading hatred for NO REASON. Two people who love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together have a RIGHT to get married, and have all of the benifits that come along with it. End. of. story.
a little exaggerated but definitely the same idea.
Re: MissAvery –
youre so ignorant
being gay is NOT a choice! being gay and ACTING straight is a choice! If someone "turns gay" then its actually someone who is ALREADY GAY and has just decided to COME OUT OF THE CLOSET!!
dont talk about things you know absolutely NOTHING about!
BITCH!
Re: State ziti – Im not sure if you'll return to this thread but I will ask anyway. Do you have an instant messenger? We can take it from there. I don't think folks will use it inappropriately, but if you are concerned about that, I understand. I dont know how else to set this up. I am still interested in understanding your point of view and sharing mine with you.
ya that picture would work if we enslaved the gays, made them sit in the back of the bus and have different everything.
since we don't, that is picture is complete bullshit!
thats crazy
Wow some of you people need to figure out what HUMAN RIGHTS are. This is not about a black issue or a gay issue, this is a human issue. The point of segregation and discrimination is telling somebody they do not deserve to be treated the same as everyone else. Telling blacks they can't use the same fountains as whites and telling gays they can't get married is discrimination all around, it's all the same, hate is hate is hate is hate. IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED!!!
IT IS A TOTALLY FAIR AND ACCURATE COMPARISON - OBVIOUSLY PEOPLE 'NOT' AFFECTED by the hate that is brewing and being slung at the GAY community would not understand- YOU try being on the 'wrong' side of the "Right" ………..
themselves!!!!!
I still will never understand to this day why…why … why blacks are so hateful and un-accepting of gays when as u see from the picture above -they have undoubtedly suffered from a bit of (Yes on

WOW!!!!
Re: bianca-wonka – WHAT????? LOL!!!!!
Re: jackie kay – Oh that's right, you're right because you say so. It IS about equality. Educate yourself.
