Thlis girl has been ill for a few years now and still hasn't managed to recover…in fact she actually looks WORSE than when they finally confirmed that she had an eating disorder.

Anorexia is a mental disease. Is obesity? I don't think so. Hmmm, starving yourself versus indulging? Which sounds worse? Obese people are for the most part perfectly happy people, but anorexia is one big battle in your head. and it takes over your whole life and makes you plain miserable. There is such thing as a happy, obese person. There is no such thing as a happy anorexic.

I've been anorexic & pretty happy. Not while I was at my worst admittedly, but maintaining a weight that was still below the technically 'emaciated' threshold of BMI 15, I've been happy.
And whether obesity is a mental illness is debatable too - ever heard of compulsive over-eating? It is NOT natural to eat THAT fucking much. To be overweight, yeah, that's just indulgance, but to be properly morbidly obese - there's something going on.
Is it healthier? The body is designed to deal with periods of food shortage. It is not remotely natural to gorge yourself every day on fatty, processed foods, the body does not know how to deal with this. Ever heard of heart disease, cancer, diabetes?! So long as you don't outright stop eatig, keep hydrated, take your vitamins and don't throw up or use laxatives too much, the body can deal with lack of food pretty impressively for a while.
