Watchdog Group Sics The FEC on Palin's Wardrobe Deception
Filed under: Politik > Sarah Palin
It ain't cheap making Shady Sexy Sarah look good.
The Republican campaign owned up to some fancy shopping sprees after it was revealed that the Republican National Committee had ponied up $150,000 Palin's way for some very chic sheep's clothing.
The news raised the hackles of watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) - especially while the rest of us are cutting back on the frivolities. They filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), pointing out that the expenses defy that FEC Act which states that donations cannot be used personally if the expense "would exist irrespective of the candidate's election campaign" - clothing included - unless it is of "de minimis value."
In other words, you can't use donated money to buy stuff you'd buy whether or not you were running for an office, including cothes, unless it's clothing you're going to wear only once or twice.
And Sarah's always got that dress suit on. They wouldn't want us to know there's a wolf under there.
They might shoot her!
From a helicopter!
The law, however, does provide that such expenses are legit as long as they come from a party committee, which the $75,062 at Neiman Marcus, $41,851 at Saks Fifth Avenue, $4,902 at Atelier New York, $4,397 at Macy's and $5,103 at Bloomingdale's did. But it was also revealed that the clothing and accessories were not only for Palin, but her family as well.
The Republican National Campaign says it's cool, cause the money didn't come from them, and that while they don't discuss campaign strategy, added, "It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign."
But CREW is demanding an immediate FEC investigation.
If they've got nothing to hide then there souldn't be a problem, rrright?
And even if no one broke any rules, it still seems a little outrageous for our "six-pack Joe."

Chicken shit Perez….post something really serious that voters should worry about like the scum bags that Obama keeps company with and the organizations he is affiliated with!!!!! BTW…how much money you think Biden's botox cost? I hope your making plenty of money now Perez coz if "the one" gets in office then you can kiss more of your money bye-bye coz your money will be re-distributed to others who are more needy, oh and your advertisers will be pulling out coz they won't be able to afford it because Obama is gonna tax the shit out of everyone….except for the ones who are already exempt from paying taxes anyway!!!! Moron!!!!!!!
dont forget to mention, you one sided whore, that the obama clan has spent over $250,000 in lunches and dinners! thats not all, do your research people! don't let the media tell you who to vote for!
Re: luvtoread – Get over yourself. Just because one person does something stupid doesn't mean that everyone who supports McCain is, and it certainly isn't his fault. Besides, I think it is stupid that people are more concered that the NRC bought there candiate clothes versus that fact that Obama has ties to racist and radical groups. I am so sick of people trying to make Obama out to be some sort of chosen one. He is just a man. A man who has not been in office at the federal level for very long, and he has spent a great deal of that time campaining for president.
Re: MaggieMay –
MaggieMay you are so right. Let's think folks, if Gov. Palin was stepping out in the same couple of suits she already had for her position as Gov. of Alaska, then her critics would be asking why the Rep. party is too cheap to give their VP candidate nice clothes, and insinuating that they didn't consider her worthy of a wardrobe befitting the position. All of which, really, should be a moot point. What the candidates wear should have no impact on anyone's vote, which is why 4 page spreads in gossip magazines about the style of Cindy McCain, Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, and Gov. Sarah Palin really irk me to no end. Not the least of which because the first 3 are candidates' wives and the latter IS a candidate. I've yet to see a single story that pits McCain's custom-tailored suits against Obama's. Ladies, we should ALL have a problem with gender bias, regardless of our party leanings.

I thought you wanted McCain to win, McCain is my hero? McCain is pro-life not pro-choice. Abortions wern't around when the Constitution was signed. Back then everyone was mostly Catholic so abortions were not even a discussion.
She makes me f'ing sick! She is a crook and if she ever gets the chance to dip into a bigger piggy bank she will. She is evil, and we should all be very scared that she is this close to getting any real power. I think that she might be retarded just like her kids.
Re: _Alice_ – i was not drooling hoping it was true..i was not surprised if it was true though considering people are at each others throats ready to fight over politics…and it was a joke for sweet piece since she was being so mean to me for being a republican and having different views than her…i heard now it was all fake and that is a horrible horrible sick thing to do and she also described a dark man as the attacker…i am white and my fiance is ecuadorian american and that just makes me sick to my stomach so it is in no way a joke now. it was breaking news last night and i posted it after a rant from sweet piece and i said i can see how this shit happens because people get too wraped up in politics and actually want to hurt people over it and beat them down. its very sad americans need to be working together not devided. and on top of that some wise ass dem on here was talking how we need to split this country apart and thought it was funny VERY GROSE!
Re: sweetpiece –
Lies, like obama's shady past, lack of voting record, and ACORN. If Obama is so confident he's already won why does he have to sign Mickey Mouse up to vote?
Well good for CREW for being worried about stuff but MAYBE they should brush up on their knowledge of campaign contribution rules first… before they look like they have too much free time on their hands or something.
Stating an item that is contrary to documented factual reality does not really count as an opinion. It just means you're being stupid.
Re: 72 & 97 obsess_much – Obamaisthemessiah is not Black. The slug is using an avatar with a Black man on it pretending to be a Black Barak supporter to reflect negatively on Obama supporters and to race bait. It cowardly hides behind the cloak of annonymity on the web - as Klanthings tend to do. It goes away for a while when its true identity is revealed, but comes back when it thinks it's safe. It's just like the deranged girl that lied on the "imaginary" Black man. It's as vile as it is dumb. Eventually it will go away if you don't give it the attention it wants. Klanthings must be the most unloved pathetic creatures on Earth. They don't get to live a stress free life, because they constantly obssess about Blacks and forfeit a quality life to hate for the sake of hating. Go away klanthing!
Re: Leona$ Gho$t –
If people were smart, they wouldn't vote for either one of them. The election was a conspiracy from the start to steal it from Hilary, coz those two cocks knew they couldn't beat her. Fuck the cocks, I'm done with this bullshit election. Fuck all of you, and I'm not on crack, you fuckers. I'm skinny by nature, so fuck you.
Re: boiledchimp – 112 The City of Chicago is not paying for the election night celebration, and it is not being billed as a victory party. I am sure; however, that if there is a landslide it could easily turn into a victory celebration. Otherwise, the results of the election probably won't be known until the next day as at least one state allows votes to be mailed in until midnight of election day. ACORN is a dead horse that has been kicked to oblivion, but I guess when McCain doesn't have a clear platform or strategy all his supporters can do is shout ACORN, Ayers, radical Christian, Muslim, agnostic, liar, messiah, anti-christ, socilaist, communist, inexperienced, and liberal. (btw it must be nice to simultaneously be contradictory things all at once - my how talented he is) If you haven't yet, check out ACORN's site. They have a lot to say about McCain's response to his own state's foreclosure fiasco - interesting reading indeed!
Re: _Alice_ – Re: Smirks – You're right I was out of the loop for a bit, thats sick and twisted, what a weirdo. The things people will do to get on TV and stir up some controversy, glad it didn't really happen though =)
Re: I've Come Undone – #337

I agree that some of the stuff the conservatives are focused on are bullshit, nitpicky non-issues, but I would think that as an American, you would be concerned about ACORN. I'm not saying that Obama went out and told ACORN to commit voter registration fraud, so not necessarily attempting to tie it to Obama in any way. But ACORN does, demonstrably, practice voter registration fraud and it's something all Americans should be concerned about as it affects the integrity of the democratic process. How can you not be concerned about ACORN? Seems like if it were an arm of the conservative party, you would be.

Re: Bongo –
Surprised I'm not more supportive of a woman who billed rape victims for the cost of their rape kit? Surprised I don't support a woman who doesn't want other women to have full rights over their own bodies? Why are you surprised? She has no respect for women, why should I have an ounce of respect for her?
I'd like to have a rational person hold the office. One who realizes the least important thing we need to deal with right now how the government can take away yet more individual rights. I'd like to have someone in charge that thinks it's more important to feed the hungry and keep people in their homes, than make moral judgements from a pulpit. Someone that isn't being or has never been investigated for abuse of power. Call me crazy, but I've had it with right wing criminals who think Americans are morons as they loot the country openly.
Re: Chuckina – #340
–
Please. Go to factcheck.org and read up on the rape kit thing. You are way off. If you don't like Palin, fine, but get your facts straight.
–
OK, first off, I am a staunch Obama supporter and I CAN'T STAND Sarah Palin. And the fact that the RNC/SP spent over $150,000 on clothes alone (way more than most people make in a year) is pretty absurd. But Perez, you're making it sound like she was robbing the taxpayers of this - she wasn't. The money spend came from DONATIONS, people who WANTED to contribute to the McCain-Palin ticket.
And get this - SP has said that the clothes will be worn once (for campaign stuff) and will then donate the clothes to charity. Sounds nice, right? Wrong. She's donating these clothes so she won't have to pay taxes on them (if you get a "gift" of $150,000 you have to pay taxes on that). Sneaky!
Finally, why aren't people focusing on SP's bringing her kids on state trips on the Alaskan taxpayers' dime, and then FALSIFYING THE RECORDS! That, to me, is a much bigger betrayal of trust of citizens. Really rich from someone who claims to be a maverick.
Obama/Biden 08
Please people, CREW is a liberal (bias) watchdog group. Instead of jumping on bandwagons and being so quick to judge, why don't you take the time to research something rather than take the words of someone who has an obvious agenda. I don't see a problem with spending some money on Sarah Palin for clothes, hair and incidentals for the campaign trail, why don't we see how much the men have spent on their designer suits. And let's not compare Sarah to Michelle Obama. Sarah is a VP candidate, Michelle is the wife of a candidate. Big difference. Sarah Palin has to be in the public eye every day and with as much as the media has attacked her for the lamest of things, can you blame her or anyone else for wanting to look their best. Let's not mention how much the DNC spent on that Grecian extravaganza a couple months ago. So, if you are going to point out the spending habits of one party, why not be fair and do the same for the other… oh, silly me, this is after all Perez Hilton.
Re: Bongo – Sarah Palin is no friend to women you idiot. She's as much about women's rights as Bush is about gay rights. Rethugicans are unmasked KKK members.
Re: PeachGirl –
Please do your homework and research. Sarah Palin did not bill rape victims for rape kits. First off, the Wasilla police chief is on record as having tried to bill victims' insurance companies, not the victims themselves, for the rape kits. In other towns in Alaska, hospitals were trying to bill victims, prompting an Alaska state law forbidding the practice. It happens to be the practice in other states, too, like North Carolina (until recently) and … Illinois.
Re: McCainIsMyHero – well stated.
This is getting old already Perez… you hate her, we know; move on!
Obama has spent more money then any candidate in history. I don't see what the big deal is with the $150,00 Sarah spent on clothing. The media would be all over her if she didn't meet the clothing standard. Sarah always looks great!
Oprah spends triple on her clothing with all these starving children in the world, bag on her.
CREW is funded heavily y George Soros and targets mainly Republicans. In other words it is a sleezy source just like PerezHilton that will spare nothing in their hatred for
Republicans regardless of the merits. See Truth According To T o m
I hope they look into how much Hillary, Obama, and Biden spent. Hell, Joe's gotta have over $100K in those hair plugs!
We need to remind everybody that Gov. Palin is the only one in the race with executive office experience!!! I think many are voting for Obama based on character!!! The fact of the matter is that If you raise Corporate tax, and you also raise Minimum Wage… what do you think that'll happen??? Specifically small business owners that have a lower margin will have to lay off to be able to compensate for the increase in tax and salary expenses!!!! IT'S INSANE TO VOTE FOR NOBAMA!!!!!————————————————————————————————————————
Also, he wants to raise taxes on Capital Gains…well news flash.. the stock market is in the crapper… Investors are scared to put money back in the market…they have a valid fear of losing their money… so if on top of that.. you tell them that if they happen to invest and make a gain they will get taxed higher…. He's not giving incentives to the investor…He's not giving incentives to corporations…and what good does having to pay lower personal taxes if you don't have an actual job.. because your company let you go…after Obama raised their taxes…————————————————————————————– As you can see Nobama's affects everybody!!! VOTE McCAIN/PALIN 08'!!!!!!
Re: austinmama99 – Re: austinmama99 – Actually girlfriend, it is not I that needs to do "homework" it is you. It's my my fault that your media is biased and doesn't report the truth. To me, and to the rest of the world, you're just another brain dead, bigoted stupid American. Have fun travelling anywhere. Chances are though, you probably don't travel anywhere! If you are the future of your country, you are all screwed. Good luck with your life - how horrid it must be to hate everyone, even yourself. Hate so much that you want to elect an anti-woman to the Whitehouse. You make me sick.
Re: clarketron – Hahahahahaha. "Looks over talent"? That's rich coming from a right winger. Too stupid, too intellectually lazy, to actually realize what horrific hypocrites you fools are. If McLame/Palin get in, your country is even more screwed (if that is possible). Grab your bible you silly freak and head for the hills. Don't forget to bring the semis.
Re: PeachGirl – Wow, that was real intelligent. First, I don't rely on the media for my facts. That being said, the media is most definitely slanted to the left, and please don't argue that one with me. Brain dead, stupid American, on the contrary, I take the time to understand what each candidate stands for and how that applies to me. It's called common sense and having some responsibility. Try it sometime. As far as hating everyone, I'm not even real sure where that's coming from based on my comments. By the way, are you an American? Doesn't sound like it. At least I hope not. I really feel sorry for you.
I would be interested in knowing how much was spent on Hillary's wardrobe?
Perez Claims to be open minded but he would never make any comments on how much a man spends on his wardrobe.
Perez I never thought I would be able to claim you a sexist.
Re: austinmama99 – I agreee!!! I want to know how much he spent on the Greek Columns!!! LOL's!! and he has his own Channel with paid Advertisement running the whole freakkingggg dayyyyy!!! It's part of the job people…
Re: McCainIsMyHero – I loved the practical example about distribution of wealth… BRILLIANT!!!! you should copy/paste it to every blog that Perezito posts… that will annoy some liberals in this bitch!!!…love ya dear!!
Re: Smirks – I agree about the Acorn post…if McCain was in any way…even indirectly related to ACORN (just like obama is)…The liberal media would toast him…Crazy world
